To be honest i figured that too, and I have to agree. Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. But maybe its ingrained enough in kids now that the reaction to the confederate flag is the same kind of unease that I have to the swastika. Even in an educational setting, the symbol had a lot of baggage. This is a good thing, im only '93, my dislike comes from being educated on ww2. Maybe they've achieved same here.

That is true. We are far better off studying and learning from history. We all have a moral, social and individual responsibility to look deep within ourselves, root out and destroy prejudice, no matter what form it takes. For our society to grow, the victims must forgive the perpetrators and the perpetrators must forgive themselves.

We do not forgive for the sake of others. We do it to free ourselves. Hatred holds us back, brings us down. Socially accepted hatred is still hatred.

Nothing much has changed where I am in Texas. You'll see people with flags in front of their house. Confederate flags attached to cars. I even saw an authentic WW2 Nazi flag at an estate sale once.

Nothing quite as entertaining as a war, especially one with so many casualties.

No Jessica, YOU have it wrong. Devils Advocate is dead right here, there is a constant push from the woke and the left to remove any references to anything in history they don't like, or have it rewritten in a way that suits their narrative. It's fair so say that the far right in the form of Nazism did this 90 years ago, but communists and anywhere remotely beyond the centre left have been pushing to do the same thing for their own means ever since. The reason this is such a problem now is that they're being so loud and try to demonise and smear anyone who opposes them!

The left would ban the confederate flag from ever being spoken about, which wipes out a bit portion of your very limited history, in the same way equally ridiculous people think burying statues of people with tenuous links to the long-dead slave trade in America or Britain, will somehow help or mean it never happened. Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it, and those who try and sensor it are just the same as nazi book-burners.

This is not about the left or the right. It's about wether it is necessary to use the actual flag. Unless this is an actual reinactment of a battle with everyone in costume (which seems to be the case here) I don't see a reason for it. I am from Germany and we talk about our country's crimes in WW2 in history lessons from a very young age. We are all aware of what happened and for that it was never necessary to wave around an actual swastika flag. It is allowed to use the symbol for educational reasons, but no one really feels the need to use an actual historical flag for that. I'd never want to "erase history", but how "educational" is this scene really? It's clearly visible that most of the kids in the picture know what the flag means and feel uncomfortable. I've seen several historical reinactment during my stays in the USA - and the people in costume always had a lot of fun and treated it more like some historical fair.

You're comparing the swastika to the confederate flag, shows how little history you either learnt, or remember. Both the north and the south had slaves, but apparently the southern flag is exactly the same as the flag of the man who oversaw the holocaust? People are so incredibly ridiculous, it hurts my head, cherry-picking the history they "learn" or cherry picking how they view it to back up the left-wing indoctrination. Xolitare, the political left is not the root of all the world's problems, but in recent history they've caused far more than their fair share (with the other major cause of instability of course being fundamental Islam). Communism and socialism have over and over and over again been proven failures, yet you still have an extremely vocal minority trying to push their way of thinking on to everyone else. Of course, as they are rarely fit to win power democratically they tend to eventually resort to more insidious methods, which is where we are in much of the West right now.

Fairly sure people actually want to teach about the Confederate flag, the slave trade etc. What people don't want to do is celebrate it. People still learn all about Hitler (hey, you brought him up first) without having Nazi flags or statues around the place.

you learned about wwII without anyone glorifying nazis, there was nobody dressed as hitler, waving a nazi flag around was there? there wasnt a large community pretending that the nazi flag represents their culture, so the jews should just get over it. This is grooming these kids to become accepting of racist symbolism, and especially for the black kids, to be reminded that they are still second class citizens.
