I don't like how Men's Health seems to suggest a new 'revolutionary' workout routine every four pages and 75 new must-eat super-foods every issue. Is it common sense that there are no gender differences? Is it common sense that, as (Gloria Steinem and Bella Abzug said in an interview with Larry King) all occupations must have a 50-50 gender balance in the pop. of who does them? Is it common sense that gender is an invented construct AND also that there are actually thousands of types of genders and they all must be recognized? These are all debatable claims that need a lot of careful consideration.

Of course there are gender differences. But the main object of feminism (I prefer the term equality) is that everyone has the same opportunity, regardless of gender. Whether they take up those opportunities is up to the individual. So if a woman wants to be an engineer, and has the same degree as the man, she has equal chance of being hired. Likewise, if a man wants to be a kindergarten teacher (for example) he should have an equal chance of getting that job as an equally qualified woman. Gender should not come into the hiring decision. A more basic example would be that a girl in a third world country has the equal OPPORTUNITY to get an education as a boy. No, all occupations shouldn't have a 50/50 split unless that is the split of those applying, then it should happen naturally anyway.

I was telling them about a conversation I had with an ultra conservative christian woman in one of my groups (think Duggar-like) who is militantly pro-life. I explained to this person that being pro-choice (me) doesn't mean I am "pro abortion" it means I don't feel I have the right to tell ANY woman what she can and cannot do with her own body. We're not the best of friends.

I agree, and by talking about the men and women who are out of touch with their degrading behaviors towards others, we may, as a species, evolve to be more humane to each other. Feminism is really just trying to get the world to understand we only wish to be treated humanely, just like POC want to be treated equally. We need more educated enlightened parties to raise our voices against the darkness. I do not think all men are dogs, there are many that are great. Same as the women. I was taking a cultural diversity class once and the muscular, 6'2" instructor stated that white women crossed the street when they saw him walking their way because they feared black men. I asked him if black women did the same thing and he said he'd never noticed. I asked him to pay attention and tell us at the next class. Turns out they did, which spun his worldview. I explained that most women confronted with a large, unknown male will put a safe distance between them as a matter of self-preservation. He honestly could not comprehend that women who did not know him had no way of knowing he was nice. Next class, he told us he started crossing the street when he saw lone women heading toward him, and many of them made eye contact and nodded. He was amazed that a little change like that made him less threatening.

I once had a military muster (they gather inactive members, update data, and what-not in case they need to recall us) and I sat next to a guy and made some small talk. Days later, a guy kept calling my workplace looking for me--when I finally was there for a phone call, I discovered that when I went to the bathroom, he went into the file folder on my chair and wrote down my contact information...and was calling an air traffic control tower to look for me. ...Yeah, that got shut down immediately, but I was on edge because I didn't know if he had copied my home address while he was rummaging through my folder.

I actually have no issue with this. If the man works and the woman stays at home, this should happen. If the woman works and the man stays at home the man should do this. If they both work, then they should always do it for each other. Nobody should have to come home after working all day and cook and clean, especially if their significant other stays at home.

The reason why people don't listen to you when you're talking about feminism when you're a woman is not because people are sexist, it's because there are so many feminists that are female spouting absolute garbage just to prove their point, when women in the US have a lot more privilege than Men, we get punishments that aren't as harsh as a sentence for a man would be for doing the exact same crime as a woman, there are men being prosecuted in the US because of women making false rape claims and I'm not saying every single claim that a woman makes about rape is fake, and so many rape cases that are won, are usually deemed as real rape, but nobody has ever heard of a court case where a man claims that they have been raped, women can pull so many things especially if they're underage

You can do that, but you're preaching for Western feminism. Preaching Western feminism on cultures that are inherently not Western won't work, as they have different social issues and different goals (sometimes both of which conflict with Western issues and goals). Remember, no one problem is the same everywhere. Every culture has its own gender issues. For example, choosing between raising your children or working. That's not an issue in the west, but in countries like Japan it's a pretty significant social issue.

Because men often have a lower sense of individuality then women. Because we often have to do very faceless, nameless, horrible jobs where we all dress the same and arent recognized for our efforts. Things like working in sewers. Blue collar work. It's really hard to feel like you're an individual when everyone refers to you as "The electrician" or "The sewage guy". Please don't get too mad, I simply don't understand. Do people think this is right? The only reason why women's deodorant is more than men's deodorant is because in order to satisfy our womanly tastes to make us buy their product they put more work into the design and packaging of the product and then they just add fragrances to make sure it differs from the men's fragrance, and also other than the packaging and fragrances, women's and men's deodorant have the same core ingredients, and what'll blow your mind is the pink tax doesn't exist, think of it like this, if you buy milk chocolate and then compare the price to dark chocolate, you'll find that the prices are not the same even though they're both chocolate, they don't cost the same amount because they're not the same product, they're different, it's literally illegal as far as I know for the cashier to charge you more for a product if you're a female than when a male buys the same product and they don't get charged more, if they do this then they will get fired.

It also depends on the social context. Be concious of how you will appear to this person. If it's the two of you on a deserted subway platform at night, and you're a 6'2" bodybuilder, and the other person is a) female, or b) a male smaller than you, you should just leave them alone, because you are likely to appear threatening. If you accidentally make eyecontact, nod briefly, then go stand at the other end of the platform.

There's a difference to "has anyone ever told you you're beautiful" and a simple, "You are beautiful". One is a compliment (we'll ignore whether or not it is a wanted compliment as that is a different discussion and depends on a number of factors) while the other... well, it's hard to explain without writing a mini novel, but it's just a different sentiment and adds a creepy factor to the person saying it. It becomes more about the person saying it ("I noticed" "I'm the first to tell you this" "I have the balls to tell you this" "No one else but me has realised this and/ or said it to you" etc) than about the person it is being said to.

Carry pepper spray, and a mace gun (range 20 feet). The mace gun lets you spray him in the face from a safe distance, then you take off. If his mates chase you, you turn around and spray them in the face with your pepper spray. This is a thing that has seriously happened. Not the majority of men do this but we don't know if the man we just pissed off by not falling for him is one of the ones who is unstable. Not to mention murder isn't the only potential threat. Rape is also on the table and less likely to "ruin the mans life" as it will most likely be blamed on the woman for not responding to his advances, or the clothes she wore, or thay "she didn't keep her legs closed, she obviously wanted it and changed her mind!" As women we are raised to be wary of this cause it CAN happen. One of my coworkers accidentally used his kid's glitter sun lotion and came to work looking like a sparkle explosion. He didn't bat an eyelash about it so no one else did either. I've had 8-bosses in my career so far, 3-women, and 5-men. Guess how many of the women were good bosses? (Hint: Three). How many of the men were good bosses? ... Two. The other three guys are good people I like and respect, but they were poor leaders. The only time I've been put off by female leaders is when they act like men. Not that I blame them, because I think that's what s been required to obtain leadership roles. But I think that is starting to change some recently. Not fast enough, of course, and maybe its wishful thinking. But i sure hope so. The world is better with women leaders. (For anyone wondering, I am a very straight, very white, American man).

Okay. So there are two ways one can look at this. One can either focus on "girls that are anit-feminist" OR on "anti-feminist just to be considered chill by guys". And at least going through comments I think we all understand feminism is about gender quality and not putting either of the gender down. The song "What makes you beautiful" never made sense to me. He tells her she's beautiful because she doesn't know she's beautiful, but by telling her she's beautiful he is taking away the source of her beauty, which as he just explained is her not knowing that she's beautiful. He probably should have kept his mouth shut about the whole thing and just enjoyed her company.

I think the problem is not the song itself, but the number or songs like this. One song can even reflect what you say, and be pure, and nice and all. But when you have a whole repertoire of songs like this, it starts to feel imposing and even aggressive.

Patriarchy is largely societal problem, not a men problem. Some of the most vile, disgusting things I've ever heard said to a woman where said by another (usually much older) woman. One of the most bitter arguments I've ever had with my mother was when she told my 12 year old niece to "stop wearing outfits like that, cause people who wear c**p like that deserve to get raped." Still, I dislike the term because its etymology implies men alone are the problem, which isn't true. That those most fond of the term tend to be misandrists doesn't help it either.

I have no idea how cars work. Well, I get some of the mechanical bits on paper but I've no idea what things are called or used for. For some reason when I was growing through my early teens that made me feel shame. Now idgaf. (Making a bit of a jump here) I honestly believe that it'd be better to drop the whole... societal view of Women and Men? Acknowledge the physical differences as "humans want to be comfortable" instead of a label that means that one should act a certain way to appease one gender or another, if I'm making sense? A bit radical perhaps, but instead of lowering or raising a bar.. wouldn't it be better to toss a system out of the window? If it doesn't work, fix it or get a new one.

Having worn women's leggings (I'm gay, bite me) I can say that they do not fit well. The crotch was too shallow for my junk, which caused hideous pinching, and the waistline was so low I felt like a fabulous plumber... There are subtle shape differences between the average male and average female bodies. I'm sure if you were to wear a wife-beater (Horrible term for comfortable vest-thing) You'd probably find it tight across the chest..?

My daughter was in middle school when this whole trend of young men walking about with their underwear hanging out began. The (male) principal would call young men into his office, explain the idea of a belt, and uses length of rope to tie the patents so they sat at the waistline. Then make a phone call home to the parents. It was, and continues to be, against the school district dress code.

I always wondered why bra-straps are so thin. wouldn't that be uncomfortable? I think if i had boobs i'd want a nice wide strip to distribute the load on my shoulder. ----- Also, bra-straps are distracting to hetero men. They get them thinking of the woman in underwear, and concentration can become difficult. I find open-breast-feeding ok, but underwear peeking out is more difficult... go figure. (no bashing for honest sharing. Thought you might want to know).

Although i’m a total feminist, I had to disagree with a lot of these posts. A lot of them are just women being sexist towards men. As I keep saying, feminism is for equality, not for superiority. Although statistically more men are likely to be sexist towards women, I know a great many men who ARE feminists, and really trying to help the movement. It is true, that not all men are the same. Just like not all women are the same.
