The world without siblings wouldn’t be the same. If you’re the oldest child in the family like me, you know the price you pay for ordering the little one around. And if you’re the smallest in the pack, well, you probably know it better than me, anyway.
So in some ways, having a frenemy for life is both a blessing and sometimes a curse, but honestly, more of a blessing. Like, who else would you annoy the heck out of, or who else would you join a secret alliance with to sneak out to your friends when you know very well that you’d both be in trouble? Or who would you still say "don’t tell mom" to when you turn 50?

“When a child has a sibling, they learn from their earliest days that attention, love, and resources must be shared. Parents take care of both of them, so children have to learn to wait their turn, to share the cake, to take turns picking what to watch on TV.
”Turns out that these early lessons are the ones that help kids understand two crucial things: that other people matter and that other people have needs. “Kids with siblings also learn, early on, that they can wait now and then get what they want,” said Dr. Lise and added that “Generally, these are good life lessons for children to have.”

However, sometimes, these lessons don't go so well. According to Dr. Lise, “if parents have clear favorites, or if one child gets a disproportionate share of attention, it can be very painful and lead to long-term feelings of being inadequate, inferior, or uncared for.”
In order to avoid this, Dr. Lise recommends for families to have repeated bonding traditions that actively include all the children. For example, “Dinner time, holiday traditions, family vacations, game night.” The licensed psychologist explained that “all these are bonding opportunities to help kids feel a part of the family, hopefully in an equal way.”

My brothers used to sneak into a room (sometimes via a window) and try out their garroting technique on me. Can't sit with my back to a door or window. Had a very understanding teacher that let me change where I sat after he had put me with my back to the door, right by it, and he thought I was staring out of the window. My parents changed the garage into a bedroom for my oldest brother. He and I took turns sharing with middle sibling until it got too violent. Parents didn't try to get oldest and myself to share a room, thought it would be too destructive. Got my own room aged 6. Brothers were 8 and 9.

I got so angry I actually ran at my sister grabbed her at the waist and drove her out of my room. We hit the hall wall and knocked a huge (butt sized) dent into it. We went from angry with each other to, Dad's going to kill us comradery. It was a constant battle for my dad the patches would crack. All mom had to say was "don't go upstairs, your father is trying to repair the wall again." We'd find something to do far far away.

We had to make rules regarding food for my kids. If you had to get up from eating and you handed your plate for someone to hold, you had to say "hold this don't eat it" or your food was fair game. If you had leftovers and claimed them you had 24 hours to eat them before they were up for grabs. Also, not related to food but the classic "move your feet, lose your seat" was employed a LOT.

YES. When I was a kid me and my sister were arguing and their was a bottle of lotion where we were arguing idk and she started saying "throw the lotion bottle at me. You won't." so guess what I did? I THREW THE F*****G LOTION BOTTLE AT HER. My sister made me crazy for 55 years. She was the baby, spoiled, I had to buy my own clothes and share them with her..........folks bought hers. She told me I ruined the family dynamic when I was around.....on and on. And yet, I/we lost her last year. I miss her every single day. I found our messaging recently on my phone. At least there we were always nice and kind to one another. It was such a blessing. I did adopt her dog, Lovey girl just has to move or breathe and hair is all over me and the house........I know my sister is laughing wherever she is. I miss her.

I was in the hospital once and my husband had to work so our kids being nice decided to clean the whole house. They had music blaring and made a plan to say "what music?" When dad came home and asked about it. He walked in the house to change eat dinner and get everyone ready to come see me. He hadn't said a word when son looked at him and said "what music?".

Had a big spider on the ceiling in my room once, growing up. Told my brother he had to kill it because he was the man of the house with the parents out. This m**o went, got a broom, bashed the spider with the handle, sprayed spider guts all over my ceiling and punched the handle up into the insulation. My brother reserved that right over me. I was being physically bullied by an older boy on the estate where I grew up. My brother found him knocked him around a bit and told him never go near her again. He didn't. Especially as he knew my brother was into martial arts. When I asked why did he stick up for me when we fight and argue all the time he just said nobody's allowed to give you a hard time like that that's my job. We get along really well now.

My sister pulled me up the stairs by my hair, I had a huge lump on the back of my head because she pulled so hard she separated my scalp from the bone underneath it and the bump was the blood trapped underneath it. Hurt to brush my hair for month until.it finally went away.

LOL I am the youngest by a wide margin. My sister is 16 years older and my brother 13 years older... what really sucked was being no you couldn't do or have something because of something your sibling did like 10 years before you even thought of it! For example, we lived in the country and I asked for a horse.. nope because my brother and sister didn't take care of theirs that they had long before I was thought of. My brother and sister had their first car bought for by dad, I had to buy mine because they didn't take care of their cars...

My sibling has to be the first to use everything (bras, clothes, cosmetics, and etc...), and I didn’t care for a long time. She was surprised when I charged her after staining my blouses...they still had tags on and the incidents were back to back. I don’t know where she got the confidence to yell at me.
