45 Honest Comics About Mental Health Illustrated With Dinosaurs
It's tough being a dinosaur in the Dinos And Comics series. They're fighting their inner battles, and neither therapy nor a good night's sleep can make it better. But at least they try to look out for each other.
Dinos And Comics doesn't have the sort of action scenes you'd expect from a dinosaur comic after watching Jurassic Park. But it doesn't need to. The lovely characters trying to navigate their complex emotions is enough. Never before have I seen dinosaurs so human, and I absolutely love it. Continue scrolling and give the series a go. It's too good.
There are two people working on Dinos And Comics, a writer named James and an artist who goes by K. They're from Finland and Canada respectively.
"We chose dinosaurs as characters for our comics because they're cool," the creators of the series told Bored Panda.
Scrolling through their work, it looks like even though the dinosaurs are making an effort to combat their mental health issues, they've kinda gotten used to their predicaments. James and K say it's partially true. "We think it's a pretty common experience. You have a super hard time before you get diagnosed, then once you're diagnosed, you (hopefully) get the support you need to make it a bit easier, but it's always part of your life. And now it's been diagnosed, you think about it more, try to understand it and rationalize it."
But that doesn't mean the dinosaurs are doomed. "We think there's hopeful comics already," James and K said. "They are mostly focused on friends and loved ones because as helpful as drugs can be, we think the support of those around you is key to coping with mental health issues."
So is this series happy? Sad? I don't know. But it's definitely melancholic and realistic. Which, given the fact that we're talking about dinosaurs using social media, is one heck of a compliment.
