It's a very good camera I suppose. What a coincidence that a professional photographer had it in full auto mode at exactly the right time. (Read: I don't buy the whole story, the pictures are just too good to be a coincidence, even if the monkey took a hundred ones)

chimps are incredible. their societies are so similar to human ones! they even have similar homicide rates (same as human hunter/gatherer societies)! they're as smart as an average (if on the lower end of normal) human!

Might you consider that there are facilities that are staffed by professionals that deal with when this happens and if they weren't there this rejected baby chimp would have been dead without them? Not only do they need to be fed, they need a warm, albeit temporary, bonding with another being. To try to place the baby with a substitute "mom" at this point in time would likely not end well for the baby.

I love capuchin monkeys, I was lucky enough to look after 8 of them (including a TINY orphaned 4month old) when I volunteered at La Sende Verde in Bolivia https://sendaverde.org/ I spent hours and hours just sitting with them getting groomed…would highly recommend to anyone wanting to volunteer on a project working with animals (fun fact: it’s located at the bottom of “worlds most dangerous road” too so you can white knuckle it on a bike to get there, if you’re that way inclined…)

Clothes can rub off their fur and restrict their movements. From what I've read, Luka was abandoned by his mother, then cared for by humans until he could be reintroduced to his own species.
