Facebook And Instagram Go Down For Hours, People Use Their Free Time To Post Hilarious Reactions (30 Pics)

If you were having trouble logging into your Facebook and Instagram accounts, it's not you. It's them. After being out much of Wednesday, Facebook started coming back to life around early Thursday after midnight ET for many users. This outage is one of the longest the Facebook app family has ever experienced in its 15 years of existence. Not being able to bombard their followers with pics of food, people turned to Twitter to complain about it. Here are some of the best reactions to the outage, so check your internet connection and continue scrolling to enjoy the fun!

According to Down Detector, the outage affected users in the US, Europe, South America, Australia and Asia. Moreover, users of Facebook-owned WhatsApp were having trouble sending photos on the app. Virtual reality company Oculus, also owned by Facebook, reported that its users were having trouble accessing and using its platform as well.
I would have liked and share this picture on Facebook, if Facebook would be working...mmmmh
This isn't Facebook's first outage. In November the social network crashed due to a test the company itself was running. That breakdown lasted about 40 minutes. That same month, Facebook and Instagram were down for hours because of what Facebook said was a server configuration. This is, however, probably the biggest outage in Facebook's history. The previous record-holding outage occurred in 2008, when Facebook had just 125 million users (now it has more than 2.3 billion users, and Instagram has more than 1 billion).
In the mean time, messaging platform Telegram claims to have experienced a boom in signups during Facebook's downtime. In a message sent to his Telegram channel, founder Pavel Durov’s just wrote: "I see 3 million new users signed up for Telegram within the last 24 hours."
So far, Facebook hasn't confirmed what caused the outages. In a statement, a network intelligence company called ThousandEyes said the issue appears to be internal, rather than a network or Internet delivery issue. "For example, we saw '500 internal server errors' from Facebook. Given the sheer scale and continuous changes that these web scale providers are constantly making to their applications and infrastructure, sometimes things break as a result of these changes, even in the most capable hands," wrote ThousandEyes VP of product marketing Alex Henthorn-Iwane.
Should have taken a pic of the meal, then just go table to table. "Facebook is down..wanna see pics of my lunch?"
I'd notice if Instagram was down way before I'd know if Facebook was down. Actually if it wasn't for the internet and websites like boredpanda, I probably wouldn't even know Facebook was down at all. I'd know if Instagram and Twitter was, though.
Do you actually know any 40 year olds?? We are the Oregon Trail Generation, damn it! We have had front row seats from the dial-up era all the way though virtual reality and neural networks, and we have kept up to speed with each new technology along the way. We were the first generation to be addicted to our phones, and the first generation that knows more about the internet than our kids. So, I don’t always make memes, but when I do, they aren’t about minions.
I didn't realize they went down at all.....now if it had been boredpanda instead.....
GASP! Cannot contemplate this prospect..!
*GASP* I can not fathom such depression!
👍👍👍
I only know the news after read Bored Panda.
I prioritise - I ALWAYS check the news before Bored Panda in a morning. Provided there is no major disaster or Trump being a pillock again - it takes me all of 15 seconds.
I just tried to post two things, gave up and came to BP instead. #GoodTimes
Me either. I did try to post an article & it gave me an error, but I was able to scroll through it, so I didn't know it was down.
NOOOOO
That moment when you're in your bathtub, reading a book and enjoying life - and totally miss the end of the world ...
Just don't eat crisps when in the bath - knocking them in makes a horrible mess.
Never thought of doing this tbh. With the way I like my water, anything crunchy would go soggy in the steam as soon as it got past the bathroom door XD
Another result of how vulnerable this tech society are where we all have our teddy bears in life in one way or another. FonzieBull...55-png.jpg
That is fabulously cute!
Didn't know they were down until this post on BP. Wouldn't have noticed it even if Twitter joined them. Looks like I still live in the past millenium =)
And don't read the news either I guess.
I always miss shit, I guess that is a good thing. Never realized either was down. That is what happens when you put down your phone and actually enjoy life.
Exactly
*Looks up from Kindle app* Facebook what now? ;-P
People are boring! How could someone be overreacting like that? I was like: "Oh, it's actually weird this had never happened before". And that's all. No drama, it's just stupid Facebook. It didn't even exist 15 years ago and people still found what to do, right?
As I don't use any of these, I haven't even known that they were down. Might explain why there were so many pale people out on the streets yesterday, wandering around without any clear destination. Some of them were crying and sobbing and checking their phones every few seconds. I saw a man yelling at his phone and a woman pleading Siri to open Instagram all the time. It was horrible…
social media it's like crack for so many people. really sad.
Oh my! I wasnt aware either untill a co worker told me. I dont have those media platforms. Sorta makes me wish I wasnt working though. It would be interesting to see what you did. Human social evolution fascinates me and the loss of social media is a an interesting wrench in the spokes.
*watches Instagram burn* *cackles*
YESSSSSS 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
They were down???
Reddit was fine. What a relief.
Half of the users got depression for not being able to show their tiny little lives, and the other half had the most productive day in ages. Nothing to see here, really.
Could Snapchat please go out??
Yes. I’d pay for that to happen. #LetsGoFundIt
This was my reaction as I don't have Facebook. D1j1kLVX0A...b107ad.jpg
Facebook is not all bad. I’ve been able to find a few old friends, and keep in touch with my 3 Aunts after my Mom passed away in 2010 since they don’t live close to me.
I genuinely did not care lol!
all I associate Facebook with are vile bilious conversations under articles, was between fake accounts ...
Well..... In my case.... Posting games related stuff on FB and IG is literally my job (yep, I actually get payed for it, done from the office, on a business account). Thanks to time zones, it didn't affect my working schedule directly, but I guess our Insights got negatively affected if it were as extreme as presented. But nobody in the office freaked out so... I guess it's all fine.
"payed" is an accepted past tense of pay in parts of the world (instead of paid). I learned something new!
Only found out FB was down when I got home from WORK,
If Google goes down: https://youtu.be/ANzNCpsXrK4?t=118
I noticed in the morning. Was happily sleeping when it happened. Funny how lost people are without social media.
1st world problem...
Explains why my teenagers were out riding bikes for a change......
They can put it down. Theyre the nr. 1 reason why people dont apreciate life anymore. They do whay they want.
Some people use stuff like this, others like me use stuff like Wattpad, Amino, and Fanfiction.net. Things like that.
I remember this because last night I was trying to upload a story on Instagram and it didn't work no matter what I did. Then I tried to change my profile picture and that didn't work either. Glad to know it wasn't a me problem!
How long were they down for
I use youtube and tik tok mostly ... sometimes twitter and rarely facebook -w-
