With the internet chock full of ‘Do It Yourself’ instructional videos and posts, it looks like everybody and their mothers should be DIY masters. However, some of these handmade projects and hacks should never ever have seen the light of day! And they’re making us ask, “DiWHY would you ever do this?”

Incidentally, ‘DiWHY’ is the name of the 1.1-million-strong subreddit that’s full of handcrafted disasters and fails that will make you want to show them to your dad and make him groan with despair. Check out some of the biggest DIY WTFs and remember to upvote the best of the worst ones as you scroll down. And have a read through our interview with IAMmojo, the sole moderator of the 'DiWHY' subreddit below, dear Pandas!

In the mood for some more facepalm-worth at-home DIY projects, our dear Crafty Pandas? Check out Bored Panda’s earlier post about the ‘DiWHY’ subreddit right here. And be sure to give their community a visit if you ever need some more demotivational crafting pics to look at.

Moderator IAMmojo told Bored Panda that they moderate daily and, sometimes, things can be a bit overwhelming when there are many reposts to sift through. "It's not too difficult in general, but certain days there are influxes of [crap]posts and reposts which can get crazy. Even with rules, these will continue to happen. It's why i use Automoderator to handle rejections of any new accounts or low karma accounts as a baseline," they said.

We were curious to get their opinion about what most DIY fails have in common. Here's what IAMmojo said: "If you ask the sub, they will surely mention the hot glue gun as the main ingredient. I think most posts in generally have a humor element to it in common."

IAMmojo also had some inspiring advice for DIY crafters. "Keep working on your craft! What you make today maybe be the next big thing tomorrow! Not everyone is a skilled artisan, we can only try our best."

“Ever try fixing things on your own? Didn't come out the way they were supposed to? Do you stand there questioning your whole life? If so, post your results here to DiWHY, where [crappy] projects from DIY live prosperously,” the community moderators describe the subreddit’s main mission online.

Having been started way back in 2013, the ‘DiWHY’ subreddit’s “hot glue gun enthusiasts” (that what members call themselves) celebrated its 7th birthday last week on November 20. While their content is great for knowing what to avoid at all costs, it’s also useful to have some general DIY guidelines to help you out.

For example, ‘Today’s Homeowner’ suggests looking at projects in a very simple, sober way: don’t bite off more than you can chew. Some people tend to vastly overestimate their capabilities, so staying grounded, having patience, using the right tools, and taking the time to get every single measurement right is how you turn your DIY disasters into DIYESes!

The founder of ‘DiWhy,’ Mr. Khan, told Vice that imperfect projects and home crafting fails don’t divide us but rather connect us.

“DIY and the failed attempts that accompany it will always serve as a great way to connect us. I think we've all tried our hands at making or building something. At times, it comes out great, but other times you stand there questioning yourself and wondering if you should continue,” Mr. Khan said.

I can actually see this being a nice idea if 1. it was an outside table and 2. there was glass on top so the middle is still usable and you don’t have to worry about everything getting wet.

Some people are triggered to do so at the sound of running water, so a dinner party here might be very chaotic.

Ever get thirsty when eating dinner with the family? introducing the water table (not for sale to person under 18 as anybody younger can drown in it)

How do you empty out that stone trough? It sits in the middle of the room, so it probably doesn't have a drain, and it's to heavy to carry out. You'll be running back and forth with a bucket *a lot*

Looks like Falling Waters by Frank Lloyd Wright. Unfortunately, it probably has the same engineering problems (the creek runs through the house, making it hard to heat, even if it is beautiful).

This would make so much more sense if it was a table for way more than 4 people. The boat doesn't really have anywhere to go and it would make more sense to have a Lazy Susan on a wider table or something. Also, kind of strange that the blue chair doesn't match the other three and that there is a plastic wrapper over the pillow on the back right chair (even with the water feature, the person sitting in the chair likely wouldn't spill on the pillow for that to be necessary). As a person with Misophonia (a sensory condition that means I have a strong dislike or hatred of certain sounds), the sound of the waterfall would be distracting and obnoxious. Plus, the chairs need cushions on the seat part too, not just the back. Hard chairs are rarely comfortable

Also very personalized - a favorite tree (which I totally undertand, having loved and lost two that I wish I had even a pressed leaf from), and rocks gathered from a honeymoon. Neat idea!

I think it works with a return pump and the water goes in a closed loop. (still uses electricity though)

Looks like a resin pour. People don't realize just how much moisture a fountain puts into the air in the house. How about a fountain/dehumidifier in one?

I think this is a Chinese kung fu tea table. It's just enough space for tiny teacups and the water is needed to wash away the tea. Pretty cool!

idk. Maybe you can integrate a wabi kusa like centre piece into it. (this picture is just one example, just image search 'wabi kusa' and you'll see plenty of great ideas. can also be put on top of normal tables or in window sills. you're welcome) 699ff8f5ce...29dbb6.jpg 699ff8f5ce75b12ca6d4d69b0a95d319-5fc19e529dbb6.jpg

I believe that sometime in the Ming Dynasty of China, the wealthy would have banquets at tables like this, however they were much bigger (longer)and could be made of stone or wood. The dishes would float down the table on floating platters and people would take what they wanted. Of course, they had servants making sure nothing ever fell off the table.
