Cats rule the internet—and who doesn’t love that? They’re one of the most beloved animals on Earth. But they’re not just graceful creatures. Their innate refined derpiness also makes them perfect subjects for memes.
The ‘Cats Without Context’ (@nocontextcats) Instagram page does exactly what it says on the tin and shares silly and funny photos of our fave felines doing weird things. We’ve collected some of the finest memes to show you, dear Pandas. So scroll down, upvote your faves, and be sure to share these pics with your pets, as well as your friends.
We all want our cats to live healthy, happy, and long lives. Bored Panda was interested in finding out what pet owners can do to check the health of their cats, and the friendly team at the PDSA walked us through what to keep in mind. Scroll down for the insights that PDSA Vet Claire Roberts shared with us.

What the person thinks: How adorable! What the cat thinks: you're gonna need a resurrection when I'm done with you as I will not let this indignity go unanswered!
“Pets are part of our families, and we want them to be as happy and healthy as possible throughout their whole lives. It’s important to know what’s normal for your pet so you can easily spot when something is wrong or has changed. Giving your pet a regular health check at home can help you notice problems early on, which can make them easier (and more affordable!) to treat at the vets,” PDSA Vet Roberts told Bored Panda.
However, she warned that not all pets are used to their pet parents checking them over or touching them in certain areas of their bodies. “Always make sure your pet is relaxed and comfortable with you giving them a health check. Take things slowly, and stop if your pet is worried or stressed. Make the health check a positive experience, using treats and praise during and afterward,” she said.
People here do realize that the pic is photoshopped? Here's the original: https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/47z7fc/this_cat_cake_and_its_model/
Thanks. I honestly didn't know because I have seen photos of cats with unusual faces before.

I saw the original photo on another post and teh cats head is photoshopped
Here’s the advice that the PDSA gave cat owners:
“Nose—it should be moist and soft plus clear of any snot or discharge. They should be able to breathe freely.
“Eyes—they should be bright, clear, and open as normal. They should be free of any tears or discharge, and there shouldn’t be a lot of tear staining around the eyes. The fleshy bit around the eyeball, known as the conjunctiva, should be salmon pink.
“Ears—they should be free from a build-up of wax or excessive hair, free from any nasty smells, and the ear flap shouldn’t have any swelling.
“Teeth—only check your pet’s mouth if they are comfortable for you to do so. Your cat’s teeth should be clean and white, free of cracks or breaks, free of staining, and remember to check for any missing teeth.
“Gums—whilst checking your pet’s teeth, if they’re comfortable with you looking in their mouth, you can also check their gums. Have a look at and feel your pet’s gums. They should be a fleshy salmon-pink color, moist, and free of any lumps and bumps."
I've seen this picture a million times, but never so close up.
I AM GOD THOU SHALT BOW TO MY GLORIOUS PELT OR THINE SHALT BE SMITED
“Coat—it should be free of knots and mats, free of ticks, fleas, flea dirt, or other parasites, free of dandruff. (This line also started with an extra space)
“Skin—it should be free of any rashes, lumps, and bumps, not have any bald patches or fur missing, have no bad smells or wounds, discharge or infections.”
On top of all of these things to keep in mind during the health checks, cat owners should also look out for the various body language signs and behaviors that indicate that their pet is happy.
“For example, they might rub against your legs or roll on their side and show you their belly; although, don’t be tempted to touch it! Slow blinking is another sign that your cat is relaxed and happy, you can blink back at them to let them know you feel the same,” PDSA Vet Roberts said.
Clearly he's using your garden for a tea party and you are not invited.
Of I were a cat and put something around my neck. I would chase you to.
Bastet or Bast (Ancient Egyptian: bꜣstjt, Coptic: Ⲟⲩⲃⲁⲥⲧⲉ, romanized: Oubaste) is a goddess of ancient Egyptian religion, worshipped as early as the Second Dynasty (2890 BCE). Her name also is rendered as B'sst, Baast, Ubaste, and Baset. In ancient Greek religion, she was known as Ailuros (Koinē Greek: αἴλουρος, lit. 'cat').
Cats were worshipped as Gods in ancient times- they've never forgotten it
The ‘Cats Without Context’ account was first started more than 4 years ago, in January 2020. In the years since, the curator of the account managed to attract a very sizable following. 137k humor and cat-loving people follow the page at the time of writing.
The main appeal of this social media project is how lighthearted it is. After all, who doesn’t like fun photos of cats in various situations?
Cat memes are a huge part of internet and meme culture because of how versatile, appealing, and relatable they are. On the surface level, you have an animal that showcases a very wide range of expressions.
Cattos seem to act silly, derpy, elegant, cute, refined, grumpy, sad, happy, and everything and anything in between. So, there’s a lot of range for content creators to work with. Meanwhile, the audience enjoys looking at funny and cute content.
Another draw of cat memes is that we, the audience, project our thoughts and feelings onto those animal images. Feline body language is different from that of our own. However, we can’t help but resonate with their extremely memeable expressions, whether life gets us down, we have something to celebrate, or we feel sleepy all the time. In short, they’re memeable because they’re relatable.
In short, they’re memeable because they’re relatable.
Relatability is a core part of any meme’s success. But we don’t just resonate with the emotions and expressions of the cats. Many of us are also pet owners, so when we see cats doing funny and bizarre things on the internet, we instantly connect with those moments.
They’re something that we’ve seen before with our own eyes. Knowing that someone else has witnessed the same things instantly connects us with them, even though they might otherwise be complete strangers on the other side of the world.
I was thinking maybe they're paralysed in their back end, but they don't look wasted... So, yeah, I agree
Load More Replies...Sometimes cats just to show off how flexible they are. Just because they can.
This particular kitty's back legs are paralyzed. His name his Chorizo.

Usually, cat and other animal memes are very short and punchy. They immediately get to the point. What you get is an immediate comedic effect. That really works to any meme’s advantage because the audience instantly gets what’s going on. And in an era of shortening attention spans, that’s how you get more laughs, clicks, views, and reshares.
However, you have to ensure that the image is clear and that the text portion is easily readable.
The cat’s expression just reminds me of a series of pictures I accidentally took of my own cat a few years ago! A sudden look of chaotic zoomies as she was sleeping behind my head, getting a clawed paw on my eye, and then peacefully lying down by my head again while I get a scratch.
Isn't this the cat that made that one news anchor totally lose his composure and start laughing hysterically? 😂
He looks like one those toys that’s eyes pop out when you squeeze it.
No I’m not high on nip. Just ask the 6ft tall jackrabbit in the kitchen making tuna nachos.
It’s not just conjecture that our attention spans are getting shorter. They really are! We’re all far more distracted than we were in the past. Attention researcher Gloria Mark, from the University of California, Irvine, has studied this for the past two decades. She and her colleagues noted that back in 2003, people’s attention spans averaged two and a half minutes.
Recently, however, people can only focus on a screen for 47 seconds before shifting their attention.
I'd be all over that vending machine!! acb-65f0fd...2d3fce.jpg
...but while you're in there, I'll take a snickers, and a mars bar, and a....
According to Mark, there are a few main downsides to this shorter attention span. First of all, when people’s attention keeps jumping here and there, they make more mistakes. Secondly, everything takes a lot longer to do because everyone constantly has to reorient themselves to a new task. Lastly, all of this multitasking and inability to focus increases stress.
I know it wasn’t your idea to be taken from the enclosure but we can zoom call
That was the first thing I noticed...the murder mitten middle finger. Better sleep with both eyes open. 😂
Load More Replies...My one cat loved to drink water dripping out of the tub faucet and letting it run over his head. He would also jump on the side of the tub while a took a shower and sometimes liked me to pet him with wet hands and then towel dry him when i was done showering. He lived a nice long life.
Load More Replies...A lot of the problems related to our shortening attention spans come down to the type of content that we’re consuming. If we’re only ever looking at short clips, memes, and videos at double speed, it’s only natural that our brains adapt to this new form of living and shift how they operate.
It doesn’t help that there are so many messages, emails, newsletters, and notifications to deal with that we’re constantly distracted by.
Blep involves the tongue, Derp is more of an attitude.

Adam Brown, the co-director of the Center for Attention, Learning, and Memory at St. Bonaventure University in New York, told Time that it’s possible to reverse the epidemic of inattention. For one, during those times when you need to focus, you should remove the device that keeps distracting you. Keep your phone out of sight so you can do what you need to do.
That way, you can reach your goals and won’t feel guilty about enjoying all the wonderful cat and other memes the internet has to offer from time to time. That being said, if you think your friends could do with a break, why not cheekily send them these memes to give them a good laugh?

Oh, and tell your cats we said ‘hi!’
Hiding opposable thumbs but getting caught out walking upright... Overlord fail.
I sincerely hope that this is photoshopped, the poor cat's ears would probably be hurting in such a loud situation
Actually, it looks curdled. Look at the whey at the edges, and the 'milk' on the cat's face is clotted...

Cat back legs go backwards (think horse) so can't imitate hoomans. Photoshop fail.
Cats with hind-leg paralysis (and associated muscle atrophy) can sit/be positioned exactly like this. Not everything is a "Photoshop" if it doesn't look like a perfect textbook-anatomied cat. Here is just one example of a cat with hind-leg paralysis sitting just like the cat in the photo above: https://www.ortocanis.com/blog/en/gustavo-the-paralyzed-cat/

Fighting over who gets the brain cell next, only no one can remember where they left it.
Reminds me of the old IT gags about the Token Ring Network being down because the Token fell out of the cable and got lost in the Ethernet. Does the Orange Cat Brain Cell work like a Network Token?
Milk for mature cats is really bad for them as they can't digest lactose since kittenhood.
Srsly? The couple ml of milk the cat will be able to get isn't going to be an issue, especially for a healthy cat. Imagine this... What if it’s lactose reduced milk? Or kefir? Any cultured milk?
Load More Replies...Here’s a funny thought. I’ve been reading a lot of 1800- early 1900 authors. Almost always, when cats, especially when they appear at someone’s door or had a traumatic experience, they’re given “saucers of cream.” It could be artistic license, but I think it did happen. Tell me why no one wrote about their subsequent GI distress. Instead, they’d write of the cat growing “plump” with a shiny coat. If milk is so universally bad for them someone would have noticed just as my mom would've noticed if my childhood cats became ill after milk treats. I kinda think some people just need to chill.
Is this legit the cats fur pattern or is this photoshopped? Anyone know?
Male pattern baldness is often overlooked in the feline population.
I had a cat who got dive bombed by a mockingbird because the cat had the audacity to lay down under the tree the bird had a nest in. Not climb, just lay down in the shade. Since I had no idea what had happened, and he had cleaned all the blood off, I didn’t know anything was wrong until he started acting woozy. Took him to the vet, who found the wound, drained it, and out a dressing on it (and instructions for me to clean and redress it until the follow-up appointment). To do that, the vet had to shave to top of the cat’s head. Poor little guy looked like a bald old man until his fur grew back.
Kinda reminds me of the 'Dungeon Master' from the old Saturday Morning Dungeons and Dragons cartoon.
Perhaps because he has cups on his feet and doesn't get around well.

Why the heck would anyone tolerate the last few pictures showing cats being bullied? I'm shocked and angry at the same time. Animals are not plushies, FFS.
Fr like who would put a cat in a vending machine? That’s just cruel.
