This Police Department’s Instagram Account Is Full Of Sarcastic Memes To Help Them Fight Crime (34 Pics)
Police in India by and large don't have the best reputation, they are viewed as corrupt and at best - useless. But one police department is making an effort to rehab their image with the number one weapon of the internet - memes. The Bengaluru City Police teamed up young social media entrepreneurs Chethan Hiremath and Deeraj Gowda in an effort to reach out to millennials in their language of choice, hilarious graphics.
“We try to inculcate that meme with a message; that’s how the Game of Thrones and Pablo Escobar memes came about. We blended humour with social messages, without diluting the image that the Bengaluru Police has. Whatever content they have, we find a creative way to put it across," Deeraj told The Times of India.
The savvy social media approach appears to be working, Police commissioner Praveen Sood informed the outlet that, "The response to new tweets has been good. We are adding at least 1,000 followers on a daily basis." Scroll down below to check out some of the best content from the Bengaluru City Police Instagram page and don't forget to upvote your favs!

I have been married 29 years and still have to nag my husband to use the indicator! He seems to think it's to be used as he moves into the other lane, not as a warning BEFORE he does. It drives me nuts!
It's an intelligence issue. For some people, it's just too hard to understand.
You don't need this magical wand to go Hogwarts because usually, you take a train to get there.
I have to disagree. I see so many people thinking this is really a "Magical Wand" - people that turn them on *in the last second* before they change lanes, thinking they will "magically" stop other cars. There are traffic rules not only about how to use them, but when and how soon to use them before you make a turn.
Never mind world peace - visualize using your bloomin' turn signal! (Except that this is the headlight control.)
A 2013 social media survey from the International Association of Chiefs of Police found that 96 percent of police departments use social media in some capacity, more than 80 percent say it has helped them solve crimes, and 73 percent of agencies said it helped improve police-community relationships in their jurisdiction.
All too true. Several years ago I witnessed an accident caused by a woman yapping on her cell phone. She didn't see that the light ahead of her was read - like to ran me down, in fact - and smacked another car. Thankfully there were no serious injuries, but it could have been a lot worse!
I hate to be that guy, but this is not a pun. It's a play on a song lyric.
Load More Replies...Crimes in India saw a ‘marginal increase’ in the first 45 days of 2018 as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. Citing the official data, the TOI report points out that the cases of murder, abduction, rape, dowry death, and fatal accidents have seen a spike as compared to the last year.
So true! Just got a notification that I've got -$90 in my acct. What a wonderful thing to wake up to. 😑

A 2017 report by Global Peace Index had claimed India to be the fourth most dangerous country for women travelers. Gender Vulnerability Index 2017 compiled by Ministry of Women and Child Development found Bihar, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand to be the bottom four in terms of safety.

Studies show that the worsening air quality in Bengaluru could escalate crime rates.“Studies have shown that suspended particulate matter (SPM) of 2.5u, which is 3% the size of a hair, and composed primarily of sulphates, nitrates, ammonia, sodium chloride and black carbon, affects the endocrine system, impairing judgment, increasing the possibility of violence,” said Professor Dr H Paramesh, a pulmonologist and environmental scientist at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc).
This is where i would like to see the steel pillar rise up from the ground, surprising the redlighters...
Yeah I'm tired of this. There's a light where I cross the street on my bike. It's red and people just go right through it... Almost hit me & look at me like I'm the damn problem. Now have to wait until all cars are stopped. It happens too much.
My grandpa was killed by a dude who ran a red light like that. He passed just weeks before my mother’s wedding, which he had been looking forward to because it was his first time being a father-in-law. People don’t realize this behavior can kill.
Load More Replies...Glad the South African channels can be used to create funny memes hahahaha.
Conversely if you have a dragon you probably don't need a helmet because you're magic.
Load More Replies...In the garage where I park my dragon, there’s a big sign saying ‘Don’t forget your Helmet,’, so this is useful 😁
The Thomson Reuters Foundation surveyed about 550 experts on women’s issues and ranked India as number one. "With levels of violence against women still running high, more than five years after the rape and murder of a student on a bus in Delhi sparked national outrage and government pledges to tackle the issue."
GTA V would have been a better comparison, lol. There's no alcohol in PUBG but you can take mystery drugs in GTA. Still a great image.
drink? If I recall correctly you usually drink energy drinks in pubg...
the law enforcement just wants to see everyone get home safe, be reasonable on the road, at least only drink red bull with 1 shot of vodka (jkjk don't drink drive it silly)
I had to search up all 3 movies and now I won't sleep peacefully for a week.

For anyone who doesn't understand: it's a reference to a tweet where someone accidentally put a picture of the continent of South America instead of a reaction image.

my grandma's name is Joan and her maiden name is Walker. She always tells me how she used to want to be arrested for jaywalking. also once we visited the walker grave site and my mum said look at all the walkers and I just said, not anymore
Must have been a love tap for so much of them to still be in one piece
It's not the motorbike that kills you. It's the sudden stop when a car cuts you off.
In my case shattered left side. Entirely. Leg, shoulder, arm, hip...powder. Because she left the eye clinic with dilated eyes and couldn't see me through the bush, that the police officer said was a stop sign. Proper gear saved my life.
Load More Replies...i refuse to believe any one in the movies is dead and there is nothing you can say to change my mind
The car was parked at the wrong spot. The traffic police is towing it and the owner is hanging like a desperado.
Load More Replies...They're spider-man villains from the 60s cartoon ;)
Load More Replies...That dog is not safe. Dogs need a harness and tether point to be safe in a vehicle. No one wants to see their doggo get squished.
You are right, but I think this picture is not meant to be used for educating about safe transport. But rather plays with a notion of dogs as humans.
Load More Replies...I need to find someone who looks at me the way he looks at his puppy
You probably din't know when you posted a year ago. RIP Irfan Khan
Load More Replies...Ohhh I thought that was Lord Of Light the screenplay- which was never turned into a movie. It was actually used as the cover up screenplay in Argo

As an avid fanfic reader, that left me very confused
Load More Replies...Eh, they're funny but they remind me of teachers making references to memes to keep the attention of their students. It's entertaining, but no one is really taking it seriously.
Actually they do take it seriously. Teens making fun of antiVaxers is leading to their school chums going off to get their shots as soon as they are legally able to without parental consent.
Load More Replies...I bike ride & don't wear a helmet. Right now I have more fear I may have breast cancer with no insurance. ... Wish there was a helmet for that.
Firstly, why aren't these written in Hindi? English isn't the first language there. Secondly, good luck with changing any driving behaviours in India. I've lived there and from observing, there is next to no chance that anything will ever change there. It's like anarchy on the roads. The only good thing is that the continuous sound of car horns is simply to warn drivers in front that you are approaching. But otherwise, I really can't see anything ever getting better.
They are talking about Bangluru AKA Banglore. It's in South India where chances are people know English but does not know Hindi. Even if not in that location average person driving knows how to read simple English sentences in India. Banglore also has lots of IT companies, it is safe to say they are doing this correctly.
