I had that happen, many years ago: My tabby tween disappeared, one afternoon. I went looking for him, calling his name. About a block away, "he" jumped in the car (Z loved riding in the car). I got home to find him sitting in the driveway. Uh oh! Went back to the neighborhood where I found his doppelganger and (because he had run and jumped in the car and I didn't know which was his home) left notes on all of the doors -- with my phone number -- apologizing for taking the cat and offering to return him. A few hours later I received a call...telling me I was welcome to the kitten and jokingly asking if I wanted 3 more? That's how I got "Ditto." :)

Ironically, it was the only time in his life that Ditto willingly jumped into a car, lol. Unlike his "twin," he hated riding in the car. Go figure.

To figure out what kind of animal is the best fit for you, consider your budget, lifestyle, experience, and goals for the pet. For example, parrots often outlive their owners, so don’t get one if you have no one to take care of it if you pass away. And don’t get a puppy if you won’t have enough time for it.

I often feed the cats when I get home, if someone else hasn't already. They meow for food either way. We always joke that they're lying. "Meow" "Don't listen, they're lying" "Meow" "They say they haven't been fed in weeks!" "Meow" "Liar." "Meow." "Don't use that language with me, ktties!" "Meow."

My parents had this one cat who had a very clear meow but with different intensity depending on if she was mad about something or not. As a result, if nothing else, you always knew when she was upset about something and wanted you to fix it. Like the time they brought her to my house to look after her while they went on vacation: She would go in, inspect every room, come out, and give a single angry meow. I'm like, yeah, I get it, you don't like new places. You've now made the point six times.

For introducing new pets to your home, specifically cats and dogs, there are some guidelines that you should follow. “Cats and kittens should be introduced slowly to a new home environment to increase their comfort level and guard against them escaping out an open door,” said Julie, explaining they should be introduced to your home gradually and have all the equipment they need available.
“If you are bringing home a puppy, you will want to start crate training right off the bat and keep your puppy on a leash, tethered to you, to enhance your bond and help you with training,” continued the animal behaviorist, adding that if there are children at home, too, you should take it slow.

According to Julie, the biggest misstep in this process is trying to do this too quickly. For example, dogs can take up to 3 months and sometimes longer to feel comfortable in their new home, and you can’t rush it.
“Definitely keep them on a predictable schedule as that increases comfort and makes them feel more in control of their environment. Balance the physical and mental exercise for both dogs and cats, allowing them to bond with you and see you as someone worth getting to know,” said the animal expert.

Right? FIFTEEN years ago I ordered a toy & some chewy thingies from PetCo for my brother's dog. FIFTEEN years ago & I still get emails. I have unsubscribed, emailed their customer service dept. AND marked them all as junk. Nope. Still get emails. Petco got some pull, yo.
Once your new buddy is all settled in, you might want to train them. But while older pups and kittens might be ready to go to training classes, it all starts right there at home, for which Julie recommended some great literature. “‘Wag: The Science of Making Your Dog Happy’ and ‘Purr: The Science of Making Your Cat Happy,’ both by Zazie Todd, are must-reads for any pet owner.”

I got a kong cat brush and both do my cats love it. It's been the only brush they've ever enjoyed. 100/10 recommend! Also, those dryer sheets that repel pet fur. I don't know what magic they put into those things, but they def help. Side note: someone once called the fluff on your clothes "kitty glitter" and I've called it that since!

I feel like my cat likes to show off her flexibility on purpose just to make her humans jealous or make sure we know how amazing she is. She'll sleep like this, with each half of her facing the opposite way. Looks terribly uncomfortable, and yet she's sound asleep as if it is the most comfortable position ever.

It’s simple! Cats are liquid, not solid matter. According to this definition of liquid – a substance that flows freely, but is of constant volume – cats are indeed a liquid. At the very least, they're a non-Newtonian solid. There IS scientific proof that cats are liquid; a 2017 paper by the French physicist Marc-Antoine Fardin “On the Rheology of Cats”. (Rheology is the science of the deformation of materials.) A liquid has a fixed volume, yet does not have a defined shape. Fardin discovered that cats, who are known to be solid most of the time, can be classified as liquid under certain circumstances. Liquids usually have a main direction in which they flow without the help of a container. The image above shows an example of a cat “flowing” along its main axis, which is the main direction of its movement. It is important to note that a liquid has a lower malleability when it is not moving along its main axis.
Some people might want to get both a cat and a dog. While these animals are usually quite different, it is entirely possible to have them get along just fine, and Webbax gives a few tips on how to achieve this.
According to the article, because the first impressions are important, it all begins with carefully planning their first meeting. First, let them smell each other’s bedding and toys. Then, start the process of having them eat at the same time while being separated by a door, which can be later replaced by a screen or a dog gate.

I make jokes like that. Last time, I earned three strikes from the missus. She complains I won't spare her.
But even when they get more comfortable with each other, keep their food and toys separate as they can be very protective of these things. It also pays to keep their personalities in mind and act accordingly. For example, when you get to introduce them face to face, keep the dog on a leash as they’re very usually excitable.
Lastly, give your cat a separate space, preferably where the dog can’t reach it, as this way, the cat can feel secure and have a retreat spot if things get too intense. And when it comes to dogs, remember that they’re active creatures that always need exercise and stimulation. So, to keep them from bothering the cat too much, make sure to spend enough time with your dog.

My cat will answer back if I ask him if he needs to go potty. I follow him in and sit next to him while he's going. He's also got a specific high pitched screech if I'm somewhere else in the house. I feel like I should hand him a towel and a mint when he's done. Dad says he's very spoiled

Mine will ignore me UNTIL I go to the bathroom, then he’s all rubbing on my legs and meowing for pats. As soon as I’m done and I stand up, he goes back to ignoring me. I think I accidentally conditioned him to associate human potty time with cuddle time lmao

My parents dog. To a t. Though, he loves to play the game of bark bark bark, excitement, doesn’t follow you to the door. Because you aren’t the person they contracted with for the job this time. And so it continues until everyone has tried and he starts over again with the first person. Then he finally goes out to 30 seconds later knock on the door to be let back in. Dogs are permanent toddlers.

There's a Christmas legend about little striped cats at Christmas. I've written this before but here goes. When Mary and Joseph reached Bethlehem and couldn't find room indoors, they had to stay outside in the animal barn that first night. And Mary delivered Jesus in the cold, brutal night. A feed trough, a manger, was the only crib available so this is where the little boy slept. Not real comfy for a cold exhausting night. But sometime during the night a little striped cat wound herself around the baby and kept Jesus very warm until morning. To show her love and appreciation, Mary blessed the cat with her initial, an "M" on her forehead. Even today you'll find Mary's M on every striped cat, blessing each generation.

I just remembered my childhood cat trying to steal a sandwich I was making one weekend as a teenager purely because it was a turkey and cheese sandwich. She waited until I was grabbing a knife to cut the sandwich to do it, too! As soon as she was caught, she jumped off of the stove top (no worries; it was off!) and then stared at me, as though it was depriving her of food, even though she had eaten not long before that!

My parents had a cat (RIP Desdemona) that loved gravy. And only gravy. And only gravy that came with cat food that she’d never eat. She managed to survive on that diet for 15 years. Same cat found dog treats in the cabinet while we were asleep and she put piles of dog treats all over the dining room floor and table.

My mother had 2 feral kittens years back who were 'just going to live in the barn'. Within a few weeks, they were licking gravy off her fingers. (In case anyone is interested, they became loving, soppy house cats, who fitted in with the others well and lived long and happy lives)

Maybe it is because they were purebreds Birmans used to being spoiled most of the cats I brought home walked out of the cat carrier, took a stroll around the room and lay down on the couch looking as if they were satisfied all was in order.
