It is probably impossible to find a food that everyone loves, there will always be someone who hates it with all their heart. Even the most common things that a lot of recipes may contain. It is interesting how different people can eat the same thing, but have a different reaction to the taste or even perceive it differently.

Even though the Latin maxim says that there is no point in disputing tastes, people love to give their opinions on food. Reddit user jamboamericano wanted to know people’s opinions on foods that are hyped up but “quite simply suck.” They received 3k responses so take a look at the most popular ones that quite a lot of people agreed on.

Consistently mediocre, albeit overpriced. If I go there for a cup of tea, I know about what I'm going to get for four bucks. In most locations, most of the year, I can order white hot chocolate with peppermint and cinnamon, and get as much. It's a safe bet.

If you didn't grow up eating it, I find that it takes some finagling. I've made it a couple times, first time I didn't like it at all- my partner did though, so I made it again a while later, shuffled some things around, that time it was much better. Then I made it a third time, made some more slight changes, and that time, I think I got it perfect. I like a short and cold fermentation so the napa keeps a slight crunch in the middle, mild spice, and lots of sweet veg like carrots and daikon. It's much more... "European" I guess, than traditional Korean, which makes sense for me lol.

Vegetables fermented with chiles and salt. Process creates lacto-fermentation, similar to sauerkraut, and traditionally uses napa cabbage or Daikon radish.Typically sour, spicy and pungent.

Did you know: the hot peppers used in preparing gochugaru must be grown in their native soil? If grown in Japan instead of Korea for instance, the pepper is merely irritatingly spicy instead of having the proper flavor. The kimchee itself also relies heavily on having things like shellfish added in for an expanded flavor profile! So if you get cheap kimchee you're only eating spiciness and salt. Proper kimchee is an explosion of savory goodness, and the array of different kinds will have many different textures and flavors~

Me thinks you've only had the mass produced stuff, but even the "real" stuff varies WIDELY. Everyone has their own spin on it, and the traditionally made stuff (which is what people tend to rave about) requires huge batches that are buried in clay or ceramic pots to ferment for MONTHS. All of it has that funky fermented taste, but some recopies are extremely spicy, while some are sweet, sour, or some combination of all three.
