People usually have a pretty good intuition when it comes to time. Even if we don’t remember exactly when a thing happened, we can give a pretty precise guess if it was a week ago, a couple of months or a few years ago. This might be explained by the fact that we lived through those events and we just feel how long ago they were.

But it is quite different when it comes to things that we learnt from history. We learn different events as separate facts and not as a continuous story so even if they happened at the same time, it might not click in our heads.

But when they are placed side by side, it is very surprising to see them in a new perspective. TikTok user Adorian Deck, also known as The Facts Guy, who has a following of almost 4 million people, dedicated a whole series to facts that mess with our perception of time and we collected the facts that his followers were interested to hear the most. And if you want to know even more similar facts, here is an older Bored Panda article that you might like.

Adorian Deck has been a content creator for 15 years. In 2009 he created his first brand @OMGFacts when he was just 16 years old and successfully sold it when it had 15 million followers on Twitter and Facebook combined.

But TikTok is a recent project, as he started his account in June of 2021. We reached out to Adorian and he told us that he always had a fascination with random fun facts, as is evident from his content, because the sold business as well as his TikTok focus on that.

I just lost the best cat ever in the history of cats... Michael Little Crow, my enormous black cat, who fostered all kinds of kittens and helped me train therapy dogs, died at 16. It absolutely broke my heart to let him go, and I have said goodbye to more cats than most. RIP Mr. Mike. I'll see you soon.

Adorian has quite a few series on his TikTok page, like the one included in this list: maps that can change how you see the world, psychology tricks, crazy coincidences and a lot more. We were curious to know where he gets all these ideas from.

He explained, “I'm really inspired by a lot of what I've consumed over the years on the internet myself, and like to come up with my own spin on each topic I dive into. I follow only what interests me and that interest passes over in my body language in the videos I create.” He believes that it is important to create content that he likes himself as “An audience can tell whether someone is genuinely interested in what they are making content about.”

Neil Armstrong, the first man on the Moon, was already 17 years old by the time Orville Wright, one of the inventors of the airplane passed away. There is only a 66-year time difference between when we flew for the first time and when we landed on the Moon.

That was particularly stupid from the NYT. The Wright brothers are known for creating the first controlled, sustained flight of a heavier than air machine. But there had already been a lot of successful heavier than air flight in the 1890's. And controlled hot air balloon flight were already a common thing by then. In 1903 when the NYT wrote that article, humans had already been able to fly for decades.

The facts are really interesting, but the appeal is that they are really unexpected, yet very simple. Adorian simply finds these facts on Google. He let us in on what the process looks like, “It will take me to list articles that exist on other websites and then once I find some information, I deep dive into researching those facts (since a lot of what you might see on the internet is false), and usually in my deep dives I may even find new ideas for series or just a lot more content for what I'm already working on. Sometimes I just get lost in the information and forget I'm even making videos, hah!”

To be fair, there were far fewer people flying places at that time, so we weren’t lugging a whole lot of stuff long distances. I flew in an airplane for the first time in the 1960s because I was coming along to a family reunion with the woman I regularly babysat for who had just had a second child and needed me to be a temporary au pair for the trip. Everyone was dressed in their Sunday best and all luggage was checked, and everything went smoothly.

That picture is the wrong kind of suitcase with wheels. The first ones were those big x-large briefcase type ones (IDK how else to describe them) and they had a little strap. You'd pull the strap and it would roll on 2 wheels then promptly fall over. We've come a LONG way baby. Hated those suitcases!!

I think most of the things that we think happened ages ago really weren't. I find it hard to believe it's 2022, which sounds like a sci-fi date to me. WW2 was 80 years ago. 80 years before that was the Civil War. My mom saw Civil War Veterans camp reunions as a child. John Tyler, 10th President, still has living grandsons. John's wife had tea with Martha Washington, for crying out loud.... how is that even possible!? It's all just the blink of an eye.

Usually, people get bored of the same thing or want to try to branch out. Adorian doesn’t believe he could get bored of facts in general, but he does have plans that involve other activities: “Definitely have long-term plans to venture out into creating a lot of projects based off of what I've built so far, and have goals to help inspire / teach / show people things that could help them live a better life. For example, I'm super passionate about financial education and have content lined up for the near future to speak on this in a format that's entertaining for a larger audience.”

It's gross to see the "freedumb" crowd supporting the illegal invasion of a sovreign country by a foreign dictator. I mean, we know they're uneducated morons, but watching them blame the current president for what their tangerine traitor helped set in motion is infuriating. Worse, Rudy Colludy and Drumpsterfire spent so much time blaming Ukraine for nonexistent election fraud that the Trumpanzees are cheering for Ukraine's defeat and helping spread Russian propoganda.

This is one of my favorite history facts. We always think of the "big names" of art working in the far distant past. I remember having my mind blown in an art history class when I realized Picasso passed less than a decade before I was born. On the same note, Jackson Pollock was still alive after my dad had his first legal drink (CA has had the 21+ law since 1933- Pollock died in 1956 and no I won't tell you when my dad was born)

It makes me think about the Australian Aboriginals, they view all time as being, past present and future all in one (don't think I'm explaining it right). It can be hard for them to learn in traditional schools because of this, when they learn 'on country' it is through stories that have been told for thousands of years, about the past, yet are still happening now.

Science theorised on the cause for a long time, and by the 1970s had collected enough evidence to know that a meteor almost certainly caused the extinction event. They just hadn't located a crater of the right size. That was first identified in the late 70s by people doing geophys for oil companies, and became widespread knowledge in the early 90s.

It's kind of interesting to keep in mind that the idea that a meteor caused the extinction of the dinosaurs is as new as it is - up until then, it was often thought that a drought caused it, as shown in the "Rite of Spring" section of the 1940 movie Fantasia.

If you put the universe's 13.8 billion years into a year-long timeline, here’s what it looks like: The Big Bang occurs January 1st at 12 AM. The Milky Way Galaxy forms on March 16th. Our Solar System takes shape on September 2nd. The formation of Earth follows shortly after on September 6th. The first complex cells emerge on Earth on November 9th. Dinosaurs appear on Christmas and are extinct by December 30th. All of recorded human history starts on the night of December 31st at 11:59:33 PM. Jesus Christ is born at 11:59:55 PM. The average human life lasts about 1/4th of a second of this timeline. Less than the blink of an eye which is 1/3rd of a second.

From the time Pluto was discovered to the time that Pluto lost its planet status it hadn’t even completed one orbit around the sun. it actually still hasn’t. Pluto was discovered in 1930 and downgraded in 2006 (76 years later). It takes Pluto 248 years to orbit the Sun which means that it will not have made a full orbit around the sun until 2178.

The Romanovs claimed heirship to the Romans (Ivan the Terrible’s grandmother was a Byzantine princess), so we can run the end-date to 1918. Or, if Putin decides he’s entitled to Istanbul (and I wouldn’t put it past him), it extends into the present.

You are attempting to use knowledge of today to discount people in history as though that will undo what has been done. That is not how humans learn to become better. He did what he did and for the time period it was done, it was considered acceptable. We know better now, partially due to his actions. To pretend as though horrible people from history taught us nothing and are worthless due to choices they made during their era is ignorant.

If someone killed a member of my family I would want them dead. Sorry but I would. Might not be very PC but that's just how I feel. Might be different if it happened and please god it never ever will. But knowing how protective I am over my kids, it wouldn't change. Downvote away.

There is nothing wrong with you feeling that way. There is no reason to downvote you. The thing is though, that as a SOCIETY we shouldn't always endorse what feels right for the individual. As a society, we want less killing, we want people to be safe, we want crime to go down. And endorsing vengeance dose the opposite, even though it might feel like the right thing for the individual.

Germany wrote it in the constitution in 1945. The only death sentences after that were for Nazi war criminals. The last one was 1951 and even they were highly controversial.

I do feel some that people who commit certain crimes don't deserve to live., but I don't believe in the death penalty as a whole. It is too flawed and too many innocent people have been executed. I feel if the government are going to choose to have the father penalty, they need a way to make sure that person is 100% guilty. I always have thought if the prosacuters end up convicting an innocent person and they are executed, then the prosecutors should be charged with murder. I bet there would be we would see a lot less death penalty cases, if any.

I think the idea that you could make a mistake as an argument against certain penalties very weak because nothing you can do to someone is undoable, so it really undermines the trauma of being falsely punished in other ways. However to hold people responsible for miscarriages of justice is something I have not seen considered before and I would support that completely.

The first Europeans in the Americas were the Vikings. 1021 approx. They made land in what's now Newfoundland, and there are still remnants of their settlement. Columbus 'decided' he was the first out of sheer arrogance and the hefty reward money for discovering the 'New World'. Evidence shows that the vikings did not displace any native peoples and left not too long after.(in an historical sense of time). I often wonder what the Americas would have become had they stayed and chased off the later explorers.

Nope, but I hope he dies a painful, protracted undignified death though - failing that a shot to the face with a shotgun ......

It seems fitting that Stalin was still alive during the formative years of the toddler tantrum tangerine.

If the idiot even knows who Stalin is, I’m sure he loves him for being a “strong” leader.

So many despicable posts about this. It's fine to hate the guy, but anybody wishing death on him is a horrible human being that needs to preach what they sow. Let alone comparing one(admittedly egotistical and hateful) person to somebody who systematically caused the deaths of 55 million of his own people and would execute, or at least imprison people, just for stopping clapping

If Trump could have gotten away with doing all this, he would have. He wasn't as bad but definitely has the potential.

Thomas Edisson, the inventor of the lightbulb, died in 1931. This is the same year that the Empire State Building which has thousands of lightbulbs was completed. President Hoover pressed a button from inside the White House that lit up the Tower lights to officially open the building.

A 5 second Google search shows Italy was a kingdom until 1946. Perhaps it is best to not use abusive language.

Ok, Italy was a Rebuplic, not a Fuedal Kingdom until 1861. But still, Emporers, Kings and queens all a like existed.
