Sorry, but K is absolutely right on this. How did a fisherman take a bullet out of a crocodile? He should have taken it to a vet or animal shelter of some kind and left it to them to take care of the animal. They would know how to properly release it back into the wild.

I think it’s amazing that an undomesticated animal essentially domesticated itself because it recognises kindness. It makes me so sad how we treat animals as a society.

From what I remember of a documentary about this is the bullet had damaged a certain part of the crocs brain making it very docile.

In my culture, we believe that crocodiles and snakes never forget. And they can pass down vengence. That's why, we do not bother them, let alone hurt them because they may come back for revenge. But if we do good deed to them, they are said to do one for us too.

To those of you bitching about this place being operational. Of course it's better if we left animals alone in their natural habitat. But because a certain type of mankind feels like the planet is theirs to f**k up, we need places like this to rehabilitate wildlife that is being destroyed by capitalism and greed. The Marine mammal institute in Gulfport is there to help keep these animals from going extinct and while they rehabilitate them, they study them. https://imms.org/

Good for him for at least recognising that. In the above, he was 45 and Seymore was 20, 25 years difference. A bit on the lechy side there already, and he went on to do a few more. I blame the franchise, not him. In his last movie at 58, Tanya Roberts was 30, so 28 years difference. Ew. Good for him.

Fact is, nobody is all good or all bad. (And for those who say Hitler, he was a vegetarian, a reasonably good artist, a tee-totaller and had some really, really good ideas about civil engineering and how to build and structure cities and resources. Sure, the bad outweighs all the good, but I'm just saying, nobody is all one thing or another.)

True. Read about Gengis Khan, it's fascinating. He killed millions of people, razed cities to the ground, pillaged and raped his way across Asia and part of Europe. But at the same time, his Empire established freedom of religion(unheard of at the time), innovated in logistics, commerce flourished inside his empire, and it was mostly a meritocracy. It lasted only barely 3 centuries but changed the world forever. For good and bad.

Interestingly, in the UK, milk bottles are one of the few things that don't have an expiry (or at least best before) date on them. Milk in cartons bought from the supermarket will, but milk delivered in a bottle by the milkman does not.

🕷️ Also, Male Peacock Spiders Perform A Colorful Song And Dance Nearly Unrivaled In The Animal Kingdom. But A Study Shows That Their Main Audience—the Females They Aim To Woo—don’t Impress So Easily.
when A Male Peacock Spider Thinks He Has Spotted A Female, “The World Pretty Much Disappears,” Says Michael Kasumovic Of Australia’s University Of New South Wales, One Of The Study’s Co-Authors. The Spider Then Begins A Series Of Dances—including Moves Scientists Have Dubbed The “Rumble-Rump” And “Grind-Rev”—that Send Literal Good Vibrations Through The Ground Toward The Female.

once He Has Piqued Her Interest, The Male Unfolds A Brilliantly Colored Abdominal Flap And Then Struts Back And Forth, All The While Frantically Waving Specially Colored, Lengthy Legs.

💃 Females Don’t Automatically Swoon To The Males’ Advances, Instead Turning Toward Or Away From Them During Their Initial Vibrations, Based On Interest. Some Females Also Had More Aggressive Responses, Rebuffing Males With Quick Shakes Of Their Abdomens—or Worse. If Females Don’t Like A Male, They’ll Eat Them.
the Females Liked Only 16 Of The 64 Courtship Dances.
oh And, Males’ Looks Are About Twice As Important As Their Dance Moves, Though Each Plays A Slightly Different Role In Piquing And Retaining A Female’s Interest.

"To the brain, information is its own reward, above and beyond whether it’s useful,” co-author of the study and associate professor Ming Hsu, Ph.D. told Neuroscience News. “And just as our brains like empty calories from junk food, they can overvalue information that makes us feel good but may not be useful—what some may call idle curiosity.”

However, knowledge usually becomes useful when it’s put into context. While many think that learning cool and interesting facts is a waste of time, it’s quite the opposite. Sure, you can find out everything you need with just a few searches and clicks on hyperlinks but it won't do any good to your critical thinking skills.

Scott H. Young, author of Ultralearning: Accelerate Your Career, Master Hard Skills and Outsmart the Competition, wrote that factual knowledge determines the speed you can acquire new knowledge on a topic. "The more you know, the faster you learn." It also is an important driver of our reading comprehension and other high-level skills, for example problem-solving. When you’re reading a book, it’s much easier to understand the deeper meaning if you’re already familiar with the topic.

👏 Bapurao Tajne Worked For 40 Continuous Days Digging The Well. No One Came To Help Him, Not Even His Family. The Villagers Even Mocked Him, Thinking That Tajne Had Gone Crazy.

💦 However, The Fates Had Something Else Planned For Tajne, Because When He Dug To Fifteen Feet Deep, He Hit Water. The Entire Village Is Now Drawing Water From That Well. Before Tajne’s Well, Villagers Had To Travel Miles To Another Village To Draw Water And They Would Often Be Insulted By People Of Other Castes.

Sadly it won't be because even young generation with educational background follows this trash of a system when it comes to marriage and such, and people who are considered as low are harassed daily. It' like this caste system is ingrained in the mind of the people that won't go away any time soon. Believe me when I say even in communities without the concept of caste system falls or gets harassed from people considering themselves to be the upper ones.

It depends where you live in India. In the north, people hold religious values very strictly, and are orthodox. Places like Kerala, Karnataka don't hold the caste system THAT high, and people are also WAY better educated on average. Child marriage is also non-existent in some states like Kerala, Karnataka, Goa and Himachal Pradesh.

I wish he had helped his first wife out of slavery. After he became famous he was offered the opportunity to purchase her freedom from the man who held her as a slave. He declined, this was an embarrassment to the abolitionist community and was covered up. Knowing this always taints the story to me. His right to freedom wasn't recognized by his owner, and her right wasn't even recognized by her husband, the father of her children.

He also made himself famous - everyone wanted to keep the story hush-hush so they could use the same trick to get more slaves out, but Henry Brown wanted to become famous and told his story to anyone who would listen. It never worked again.

There's a lot of information about it online. I encourage you to google Henry Brown. He became an author and an abolitionist speaker after his escape which is why details of his story are so well known. A white shoemaker and a Black free man helped in his packaging, and a group of northern Quakers helped at the delivery site.

The only reason we know how smart they are is because of the experiments. And people eat, or have eaten, just about every accessible animal on the planet, going back a couple of million years. Animals bred in captivity can only be reintroduced to the wild after careful research and preparation; without that, they’re much more likely to starve or be killed by the existing animal population.

🌲 Methuselah (Tree) Sprouted Back In 2005, When Agriculture Expert Dr. Elaine Solowey Germinated His Ancient Seed. It Had Been Pulled From The Remains Of Masada, An Ancient Fortification Perched On A Rock Plateau In Southern Israel, And At The Time, No One Could Be Sure That The Plant Would Thrive. But It Has, And Its Recent Reproductive Feat Helps Prove Just How Well It’s Doing.

_____

🍃 For A While, The Judean Date Palm Was The Sole Representative Of His Kind: Methuselah’s Variety Was Reportedly Wiped Out Around 500 A.d. But Solowey Has Continued To Grow Date Palms From Ancient Seeds Discovered In The Region, And She Tells National Geographic That She Is “Trying To Figure Out How To Plant An Ancient Date Grove.” Doing So Would Allow Researchers To Better Understand Exactly What Earlier Peoples Of The Region Were Eating And How It Tasted.

_____

🌱 At 2,000 Years Old, Methuselah’s Seed Isn’t The Oldest Seed To Be Used To Grow A Plant—not By A Long Shot. Back In 2012, A Team Of Russian Scientists Unearthed A Cache Of Seeds From A Prehistoric Squirrel Burrow That Had Been Covered In Ice. They Eventually Succeeded In Germinating The 32,000-Year-Old Specimens, Which Grew Into An Arctic Plant Closely Resembling The Modern Narrow-Leafed Campion.

"Seven date palm trees have been grown from 2000-year-old seeds that were found in the Judean desert near Jerusalem. The seeds – the oldest ever germinated – were among hundreds discovered in caves and in an ancient palace built by King Herod the Great in the 1st century BC." Is Internet blurb about these seeds?

🌳 Norway Is The First Country In The World To Commit To No Longer Using Any Products That Contribute To Deforestation.
that’s Pretty Remarkable, Because While During The Last Few Years A Number Of Companies Have Stopped Working With Goods That Can Be Linked To The Destruction Of Rain Forests, Such An Action Has Not Been Matched By Governments.
a Little More Than Five Years Ago, At The United Nations Climate Summit 2014 Held In New York, The Norwegian Government Made A Pledge With Germany And The United Kingdom That It Would “Promote National Commitments That Encourage Deforestation-Free Supply Chains, Including Through Public Procurement Policies To Sustainably Source Commodities Such As Palm Oil, Soy, Beef And Timber.”

_____

🇳🇴 In 2016, The Norwegian Government Made Good On That Promise By Officially Declaring That The Government’s Public Procurement Policy Will Become Deforestation-Free. In Other Words, The Norwegians Will Not Award Any Of Its Government Contracts To Companies That Take Part In Clear-Cutting.
this Isn’t The First Time That Norway Has Put Into Practice “Speaking For The Trees.” The Act Of Banning Deforestation From The Supply Chain Only Continues The Country’s Long-Standing History Of Protecting The World’s Vital Forests.

This is misleading. There is still deforestation here in Norway. What we have done is make supply chains deforestation-free. So e.g. no government contracts are awarded to companies that take part in deforestation. Still, a good measure! 🙂

Thank you for clarifying as someone who lives in Norway. I really wish we were tougher on companies that raze forests in the US. It's terrible! People always say we shouldn't let our cats outside because they kill songbirds, yet these lumber companies take away entire ecosystems.

I can't speak for everyone, but I can speak for myself as a Norwegian forest owner (I have a small farm): when I hire people to come "harvest the forest" as they put it, I as the owner am obliged to plant new trees. The same company can arrange that, so it's easy. The default variety they plant is however fir, which is bad if the forest that was chopped was for instance pine. So that's an issue I'll need to look into when it's time for my pine wood to be chopped. Also, the government have been actively preserving untouched forests, including some of mine - all voluntary, and I had no objection. The forest is untouched because it's so steep it would be dangerous to chop it, so it's a biodiverse haven. And now it's illegal to chop it for all eternity. So good things are going on, I hope the government will hold huge forest owners to the same standard as us small ones.

This is an insult to the people of Bhutan. Bhutan is one of only two carbon-negative countries in the world (besides Suriname). Their constitution says that the amount of forest in their country can never drop below 60% of the total land mass, and since 2000 they have increased the total amount of forest to 70%. They run entirely on hydroelectric power, which they provide to rural farmers for free. There is also a ban on exporting lumber. So, you know, suck it, Norway.

My late older brother had a didactic memory and was brilliantly smart. He also was a D student, mostly because he was bored and only "bothered" to ace his tests, and otherwise didn't do homework or pay attention in class. My entire life I was in awe at the things he knew. My younger brother has a learning disability, had to get tutoring and go to special schools, and still earned himself two masters degrees. I always felt like the dolt of the three of us--b average, took me 7 years to finally get my BA. My talent is writing music, dumb jokes, and exceptionally long Bored Panda comments.

I believe this is why they have rubrics now that spell out exactly how the teacher got to the grade they did. I went to a school that did evaluations instead of letter grades. Those evaluations were also subjective. I'd much prefer a letter grade based on a rubric that exactly spells out expectations.

I was a C student. Got a full scholarship anyways because of my ACT scores. It was great to see all the "honor students" so confused as to why I got a scholarship and they didn't. GPA doesn't measure intelligence. It measures more who does or doesn't do homework. On the other hand, there are plenty of scholarships out the that have nothing to do with grades or test scores for students that excel in other areas. His isn't the only one.

That's true for most countries in Europe (with starting pay different in each of course). The government sets a minimum salary and minimum benefits (5-6 weeks of vacation, maternity, health insurance, pension contribution etc) and it is illegal for companies to hire someone below these limits, no matter what the job is.

🐦 Cher Ami (French For “Dear Friend,” In The Masculine) Was A Male Homing Pigeon Who Had Been Donated By Britain To The U.S. Army Signal Corps In France During World War I. He Is Famous For Delivering A Message From An Encircled Battalion Despite Serious Injuries During The Meuse-Argonne Offensive, October 1918.
"Cher Ami" Was Dispatched With A Note, Written On Onion Paper, In A Canister On His Right Leg;
"We Are Along The Road Parallel [sic] To 276.4. Our Own Artillery Is Dropping A Barrage Directly On Us. For Heavens Sake Stop It."

_____

🇩🇪 As Cher Ami Tried To Fly Back Home, The Germans Saw Him Rising Out Of The Brush And Opened Fire. After Several Seconds, He Was Shot Down But Managed To Take Flight Again. He Arrived Back At His Loft At Division Headquarters 25 Miles (40 Km) To The Rear In Just 25 Minutes, Helping To Save The Lives Of The 194 Survivors. He Had Been Shot Through The Breast, Blinded In One Eye, And Had A Leg Hanging Only By A Tendon. Cher Ami Became The Hero Of The 77th Infantry Division. Army Medics Worked To Save His Life. When He Recovered Enough To Travel, The Now One-Legged Bird Was Put On A Boat To The United States, With General John J. Pershing Seeing Him Off.

🎵 As It Turns Out, Getting Chills From Music Is Not As Common As You Might Think. Researchers From Usc Released A Study That Suggests That Only About 50 Percent Of People Feel Things Like Shivers, A Lump In Their Throat, And Goosebumps When They Listen To Music. What's More, Those People Might Have Very Different Brains Than Those Who Don't Experience Those Feelings.

_____

🎶 First, They Gathered 20 People And Had Them Listen To A Selection Of Their Favorite Songs. Whenever They Felt A Chill, They Pressed A Button. All 20 Were Then Given Mri Scans — And The 10 That Reported Reactions Were Obvious Standouts. Their Brains Turned Out To Have A Much Higher Volume Of Fibers Connecting Their Auditory Cortex To The Areas That Process Emotion.
more Fibers Mean That Those Two Areas Of The Brain Can Communicate Much More Effectively. It Also Means That, Because Their Emotional Processing Centers Are Beefier, Those People Are More Able To Experience Extreme Emotions.

I mean they're also vindictive bitches, selfish and bullies. I mean I love my Roxie to bits but she will beat the ever loving crap out of the bottle calves when she can get them up against a fence. Roxie will also attempt to murder any and all dogs. Stevie is an incredible sticky beak and will head butt you to get out of the way if your doing something interesting. Stevie will also knock gates and door open, stick her nose into everything and knock everything over and s**t everywhere. They are my beautiful babies but doing anything with them is incredible painful because they are uncooperative and they terrify the herd cattle.

I can’t remember the name of the sanctuary, but there was a rescue cow who fostered several rescued calves. When the sanctuary employee separated the calves from her to send to a permanent home, she rushed him and then bellowed in grief for hours when they were gone. She literally never forgave him, and he had to avoid her for the rest of her life.

The loss of the species (any species) is a tragedy. But this specific species of rhino (or any vertebrate species) did not survive 55my. The "rhino family", called Rhinocerotidae, evolved in the late Eocene (about 35my ago) but this species in specific is much younger, the oldest remains are about 2my. Making up facts to protect animals is not a good idea.

It's just one of many, many, many species that this has happened to. While human interference is the cause of many extinctions, we should remember that natural selection will also cause lesser subspecies to go extinct as a natural part of evolution.

Math prodigies are like that. There's a great story of the famous mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss. In primary school he apparently misbehaved and as punishment the teacher told him to add all the integers from 1 to 100 (1+2+3 ...100). He thought about it for a moment and gave the teacher the answer - 5050. When the teacher asked him how he did it, he knew he a genius on his hands. There's a trick of course. Instead of adding all the numbers up the hard way, he envisioned the series of numbers as pairs. 1+100=101, 2+99=101, 3+98=101, etc... You can see where this is going. Well you've got 50 pairs of 101 (50 X 101=5050). Easy!

'Good Will Hunting' is very loosely based on real people, but if you like real stories like this, you should check out 'The Man Who Knew Infinity' (2015). It's a biopic about a real-life Indian math wiz who gets a scholarship to go to Cambridge. It stars Dev Patel (of 'Slumdog Millionaire' fame) and Jeremy Irons as his professor/mentor.

In Japan there is a very strong sense of communal space. Children are taught from an early age to care for their environment. When kids have to clean up after themselves, it makes them much more conscious of making a mess. This is why Japan is very clean in general. Also why you see Japanese fans cleaning up stadiums after international matches.

Because our culture and society i.e. the "system" emphasizes the "individual". Japan's culture and society emphases "group." US teachers would be happy to not be cussed and assaulted by the students and their parents.

🚭 The Plans Include The Gradual Increase Of The Legal Smoking Age, Which Could Extend To A Ban On The Sale Of Cigarettes And Tobacco Products To Anyone Born After 2004, Making Smoking Effectively Illegal For That Generation.
also Under Consideration Was A Significant Reduction In The Level Of Nicotine Allowed In Tobacco Products, Prohibiting Filters, Setting A Minimum Price For Tobacco, And Restricting The Locations Where Tobacco And Cigarettes Can Be Sold.
“We Need A New Approach,” Associate Health Minister Dr Ayesha Verrall Said, Announcing The Changes. “About 4,500 New Zealanders Die Every Year From Tobacco, And We Need To Make Accelerated Progress To Be Able To Reach That Goal [of Smokefree 2025]. Business-As-Usual Without A Tobacco Control Program Won’t Get Us There.”

_____

🇳🇿 The Proposals Were Welcomed By A Number Of Public Health Organizations. “This Proposal Goes Beyond Assisting People To Quit,” Cancer Society Chief Executive Lucy Elwood Said In A Statement. She Noted That The Number Of Tobacco Retailers Was Four Times Higher In Low-Income Communities, Where Smoking Rates Were Highest.
“These Glaring Inequities Are Why We Need To Protect Future Generations From The Harms Of Tobacco,” Elwood Said. “Tobacco Is The Most Harmful Consumer Product In History And Needs To Be Phased Out.”
shane Kawenata Bradbrook, A Long- Term Advocate For Smoke-Free Māori Communities, Said:
“For Too Long The Tobacco Industry Has Been Addicting Our People, Fleecing Them Of Their Money Before We Have To Bury Them In Urupa [burial Grounds] All Over This Land. I Am Looking Forward To Truly Making This A Sunset Industry In This Corner Of The World.”

I'm always torn when it comes to things like this. On the one hand, I don't feel like the government should tell us "you can't do that because it isn't good for you". Your not my mom, back off. Sugar isn't good for me either. The last person I dated wasn't good for me. On the other hand, I'm all for the government telling us it's the law to wear a seatbelt, or that my doctor can't smoke crack before he operates on me. And this, Ladies and Gentlemen, is why I am not a politician. Glad I'm not the one who has to make the decisions on these kinds of things!

The thing is, here in NZ we have free healthcare and smoking related diseases are costing us dearly. We only have a population of 5million, and taxpayers are paying for these people in care, to the detriment of other people who don't have self inflicted diseases. We cannot sustain things unless we bring in the smoking ban.

Tobacco doesn't have the same appeal as other drugs though. Less of a high, more of a smell, less fun than booze. A decent alternative is vaping. I don't think it'll be a lucrative enough market to be anything similar to the prohibition days.

I find it ironic that as we ban smoking tobacco we are legalzing smoking weed, which has similar lung side effects. Besides people should be allowed to put whatever poisons in their body they want. Tobacco, Weed, Crack, etc. Let people be free to destroy their bodies as they wish. Tax it, and use the taxes to fund health projects to cover the costs of their harm

I'm genuinely curious, if we change tobacco to marijuana, alcohol, or any other substance that can be abused, does that change people's opinions? Many nations have started legalizing marijuana, for instance, and a 2020 referrendum in New Zealand to legalize recreational marijuana sale, use, and possession was narrowly defeated 51-49%.

🇩🇪 When Fuggerei Was Established By A Wealthy Banker, Jakob Fugger The Rich, In 1520, He Intended For It To Become A Housing Complex Open To The Needy And Poor Living Nearby In Augsburg, Germany. That Tradition Continues Today, With The Only Other Requirements For Living In The Complex Being A Demonstrated Faith In The Catholic Church, And A Proven Residency In Augsburg For At Least Two Years.

Tourists Also Bring In Some Money For The Village, As Visitors Are Welcome To Tour The Neighborhood For Themselves With The Purchase Of A €4 Euro Ticket, As Long As They Demonstrate Respect For The Town And Its Residents.

I researched. In order to live here, you have to have been a resident in the area for two years, you have to be poor and you have to be Catholic. You have to agree to pray daily. You have to contribute to the upkeep of the houses and area. The village makes the money it needs by investing in forestry and... wait for it... real estate. So basically, they keep the prices low by profiteering on other property!

Arrrgh! It´s not a village, it´s a district in Augsburg called: "Fuggerei" after it was founded as a social housing project in 1516 by Jakob Fugger, aka along with Rockerfeller the richtest man who ever lived. If he were alive today he could buy Elon Musk, Bezos, Bill Gates and a pope or two and still have chump change left.

I once went to a Wagner opera, the orchestra was so huge that the women's chorus could barely make themselves heard over it. Then a real-deal Wagnerian soprano with a super-powerful voice came on, and she drowned out both the orchestra and the chorus! Yup, one person was louder than the 100 or so instrumentalists in the orchestra and singers in the chorus, combined.

Don't know if this is true but I also heard he permed his hair because he was broke at the time and the hairstyle was low maintenance. He didn't like it but it became so associated with him he stuck with it.

Its not because she was a ginger per se, it's because she was a different color in general, which can attract predators and lead to multiple animals dying. It's the same for most "off" color animals. If they make it to adulthood, it's a miracle because they lack the camouflage needed to survive

Yeah, the vet asked if I wanted to put my 16 year old cat on chemo (feline leukemia) because it "might give him a few more months". Meanwhile my cat was drinking water by lying on the ground with his face sideways, halfway in the water bowl and in general wasn't himself and looked so defeated and tired all of the time. Had to let my baby go.

Researchers Have Been Listening To Recordings Of A Particular Blue Whale 🐋 Who Has Been Roaming The Waters Of The Northern Pacific Ocean For Over 20 Years. It Is Referred To As "Lonely" Because This Whale Sings At The Abnormally High Tone Of 52 Hz And Is Unable To Communicate With Other Blue Whales Higher Who Sing In The Range Of 10 - 40 Hz. Due to some reason, this whale's singing voice has a higher pitch than they normally do. Normal frequencies range from 10 to 40 Hz, this particular whale sings at some 50-odd Hz, which is why other whales either can't hear them or don't recognise it as whale sounds. What a poor lad :(

The song "whalien 52" by BTS uses the story of this very whale as a metaphor for loneliness. This whale emits a frequency of 52Hz which cannot be heard by other whales but it still keeps on singing. BTS used this story to convey how you may feel unheard and invisible even though you are surrounded by people. The lyrics also say 'lonely whale, let us try singing the song once more in hope that someone will hear you. ' The story is incredibly sad and the lyricism is commendable. For a more detailed breakdown of the song and how it tells this story, you can visit this link:- https://aminoapps.com/c/btsarmy/page/blog/whalien-52-the-story-behind-it/8BDw_xBLCmu2NgM2wXbzJ07qzQ2E3oBqmz4

🕸️ In The Dvd Commentary Of 'Spider-Man,' John Dykstra – Head Of The Vfx Team For The Film – Shared That There Were No Special Effects Involved In Peter Catching The Food, And It Was All Tobey Maguire’s Work – And It Only Took 156 Takes. Kirsten Dunst Confirmed This And Added That They Used Sticky Glue So Tobey’s Hand Would Stick To The Tray And He Could Catch The Items Without A Problem. Of Course, Things Like The Jell-O And The Sandwiches Were Glued To Their Plates, So All Tobey Had To Do Was Catch Them All, Which Is Obviously Easier Said Than Done.

surprisingly, Sony Wanted To Cut The Scene, But Changed Their Mind After Raimi Insisted On Keeping It, As It Required A 16 Hour-Day Of Shooting. In The End, Peter Catching Mj’s Lunch Became One Of The Most Memorable Scenes From 'Spider-Man,' And Will Go Down In Superhero History As A Truly Iconic Move From Tobey Maguire.

😲 The Face Spoke At More Length With Angelina Jolie About The Incident And Why She Felt Compelled To Hire A Hitman To Carry Out Her Death. “They’re Not That Hard To Find In New York,” She Responded. “As Insane As It Sounds, I Think A Lot Of People Consider Suicide When They’re Young,” Jolie Admitted.
“I Was Very Aware That So Many People Around Me, Like My Mother, Would Feel As Though They Didn’t Give Enough Or Do Enough, If I’d Taken My Own Life,” Jolie Continued. “So My Solution To That Was If Someone Else Had Taken My Life – Like In A ‘Robbery’ – Then It Would Be Murder And It Wouldn’t Be That Anyone Would Feel They’d Let Me Down.”

🧐 Jolie Even Got As Far As Hiring The Contract Killer And Planned To “Take Out Cash Over A Certain Amount Of Time, So There Wasn’t A Big Chunk In My Bank Account” To The Killer. However, Remarkably, It Wasn’t Jolie Who Had A Change Of Heart, But The Hitman Persuaded Her To Carry On Living.
“He Was A Decent Enough Person And Asked If I Could Think About It And Call Him Again In Two Months,” She Explained. “Something Changed In My Life And I Figured I’d Stick It Out.”
as Bizarre As It Sounds, We’ve Got A Hitman With A Conscience To Thank For Jolie Being Here Today. Her Mental Health Troubles Didn’t End That Day, Jolie Would Suffer A Nervous Breakdown At 24, But Once She Had Her First Child, She Got That Stability In Her Life That She Always Craved.

Her example was to take care of yourself and show that if you carry the breast cancer gene you have options - even if they are extreme. For some people they are predicted to have an 80% chance of breast cancer- that's f**king scary. I mean, what would Angelina say? “I know he killed lots of people, for money, but he was so nice to me! (Because I’m special.)”

🐶 According To Researchers, “Dogs Smell Time.”

their Powerful Noses Allow Them To Perceive The Passage Of Time. This Is Not Mystical Or Other Worldly. It’s Just That Dogs Can Understand Much About The Past Because Of The Extreme Sensitivity Of Their Noses.
odors Change Over Time, Sometimes Predictably. When You Leave The House To Go To Work Each Day, The Smell Of You In The House Decreases With Each Hour Of Your Absence, And Your Dog Can Detect The Difference. Perhaps Your Dog Has Learned Through Repetition That When The Smell Of You Has Weakened To A Specific Degree, You Come Home. In Other Words, The Strength Of Your Odor Predicts The Time Of Your Return.

this Degree Of Scent Discrimination Is Not Hard For Most Dogs. Many Dogs Can, For Example, Tell Which Way To Follow A Scent Trail By Heading From Where It Is Weakest (Oldest) To Where It Is Strongest (Most Recent) When The Difference Is Miniscule. Stronger Odors Are Often Newer And Weaker Ones Are Older. That Means That When Dogs Smell Weak Odors, They Are Perceiving Events Of The Past. Because Dogs Can Detect Both New And Old Odors, They Are Perceiving Events And Substances Across Intervals Of Time.

_____

🐕 Each Day, Even In The Same Place, Smells Help Dogs Understand The Passage Of Time. As Air Heats Up Over The Course Of The Day, Air Currents Change And Move Around In Space, Taking The Molecules Responsible For Odors With Them. Dogs, With Their Sensitive Noses And Large Olfactory Lobes Are Able To Sense The Movement And Presence Of Chemicals People Barely Sense If At All.
though We Humans May Detect Daily Patterns In Light Or Even Sound, Our Ability To Smell Clues About The Passage Of Time, Is Barely Worth A Mention. Yet, Dogs Detect Odors That Reveal Past Happenings To Them In Complex Ways We Are Only Beginning To Understand.

I think they're also fantastic at hearing. i had a neighbour who had two jack russels. They'd play outside the property in the street till the owner was due to come home. About 2-3 minutes before the owner arrived, they'd charge back and jump over the (4ft) wall back inside. Every day. Amazing to see.

That's just a theory. Every dog owner also knows that dogs have a keen sense of time. They can tell when you're supposed to get up and when they are supposed to get fed. Many animals can do that.

When I was a kid, my mom, brother, grandparents, and I would go visit my aunt for the weekend about once a month. My childhood dog would habitually sit at the door about a half hour before we got home. She knew.

My brother and his cat had a very strong bond. Since we lived together then, I could check everyday that the cat got up and walked to the door to wait, minutes before I could see or hear any sign of my brother arriving home, and regardless of what time it was.

No, it's not two conditions. The condition is the whole sentence. For example saying "For breakfast on my birthday I only want bacon, eggs, hash browns, and grilled tomatoes, with orange juice and black coffee" is one condition.

👩🏻‍🔬 Chinese Scientists Studied 57 Drinks—ranging From Herbal Teas To Sodas—and Found The Best Way To Ease Hangover Symptoms May Be Sprite.

🎓 When We Drink, Our Livers Release Alcohol Dehydrogenase (Adh), An Enzyme That Breaks Down The Ethanol In Alcohol Into A Chemical Called Acetaldehyde. That Way, Less Alcohol Enters The Bloodstream. It’s Then Broken Down Into Acetate By Another Enzyme Called Aldehyde Dehydrogenase (Aldh), According To Researchers At Sun Yat-Sen University In Guangzhou.

the Researchers Found That Sprite Was One Of The Top Drinks That Sped Up The Aldh Process, Causing The Alcohol To Be Broken Down More Quickly And Shortening How Long The Hangover Lasts.

You are right to put it in " " because what they actually mean is refresh rate, not frame rate, which is something different. William mcgloin is right to answer in hz not fps :-) max frame rate is usually 30 (29.97).

Some authorities spell it Matoax, and others identify her as Amonute. That information was credited to William Stith, an 18th century historian and minister who was born in 1707. Since Pocahontas died in 1617, the account isn’t contemporaneous.

I saw a video on youtube about that. When he was 2 years old when his father took him and his brother away from a bomb blast and ran away into the forest. Fearing that the war was not over his father built a shelter where they all lived for 40 years when he was “rescued” by an explorer who found him and took him to the city. With all the endless oppurtunities in the city the real life tarzan went back to the forest proving that the simplest existence is the best existence

The gorgeous Mr Skarsgaard is just there to catch your eye. The actual "Tarzan" they are referring to is a story about a Vietnamese man who went into the jungle to hide in 1972 with his son until 2013, fearing the war wasn't over. The son was only 2 when they went into hiding.

Breaks my heart hearing stories like this. My great-grandparents were murdered in Auschwitz, along with their 2 youngest kids (both in single digits.) Just makes me think of the endless possibilities their lives had waiting for them they unfortunately were never allowed to accomplish. Could my great-Aunt Ewa or my great-Uncle Chiem have grown up to potentially found the cure to cancer or some equally astonishing discovery. The feeling of dread and nausea when thinking about those darling children, just a few years into their lives meeting such a disgustingly violent and needless end is enough to add a real damper to my day.

but then why do they look guilty even if we don't yell at them after arriving home and finding that they've annihilated the place? is it because they THINK they will get yelled at?

    M

3 years ago Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

What we perceive as them looking "guilty" is actually them showing submissive behavior due to fear. They do not associate what they did hours ago with our behavior but since they are very sensitive to our body language and tone of voice they understand that we are upset/angry and try to appease us by being submissive. It's basically a "don't hurt me, I give up" signal, same as they would do to a bigger dog that showed aggressive behavior towards them. Even if you do not yell and pretend to be calm they can easily pick up that you are in fact angry or upset

What we perceive as guilt is actually stress because they know human may be unhappy about a situation and they are stressed and scared that they will experience their displeasure.

This can be fairly easily established. Say you have a dog that looks 'guilty' when there is feces on the floor. An experimenter can place some feces on the floor when the dog is absent, then let the dog back in to the room. When the owner returns, the dog will appear 'guilty', even though they did not cause the problem. The same principle can be applied to tipped-up trash cans or torn-up sofas, with the same results.

Apparently, it is preferable that we keep quiet rather than help people to stop confusing and hurting their pets. Which is ironic considering how quickly they will all start virtue signalling the minute anything regarding animal cruelty is posted.

This contrarian "fact" is thrown around a lot on the internet, but is not proven to any scientific rigor. Having studied evolutionary biology, I'd in fact claim the opposite. Guilt is a social mechanism and our social behavior is nothing novel in humans. Guilt likely serves an important evolutionary benefit, and is something that's been passed on from previous species in our history, even before we were monkeys. When we recognize guilt, shame, content, discomfort, curiousity in our pets it's not anthropomorphizing them, but something we have in our evolutionary code since long back since being aware of social signals is key to survival in all social species. Dogs are as concious and full beings as any humans, as least that's what evolutionary biology tells us. There is no reason they would have simpler social behaviors than we do. And besides, being sad because your best friend is dissapointed in you is a big part of guilt anyway.

You did not really study evolutionary biology or at least not in depth because what you wrote is completely wrong. While guilt is indeed a social mechanism that has an evolutionary advantage for humans, it is not the same for other mammals. What we call guilt is the ability to connect past actions to present or future negative consequences, even if past actions happened a very long time ago. Most mammals do not have that ability and dogs most certainly cannot connect them pooping on the carpet 5 hours ago with you yelling at them right now. "Dogs are as concious and full beings as any humans, as least that's what evolutionary biology tells us. There is no reason they would have simpler social behaviors than we do." Dogs are conscious beings same as cats, birds, frogs etc. but that does not mean they perceive the world in the same way. It's not even that they have "simpler" social behaviors, it's that their social behaviors are different from ours.

Your dog has learned to associate torn up things on the floor with your bad behaviour. She is trying to prevent you from traumatising her for something she doesn't understand.

In case anyone cares to know why - The only living organisms in Lake Hillier are microorganisms including Dunaliella salina, red algae which cause the salt content in the lake to create a red dye which helps produce the colour, as well as red halophilic bacteria, bacterioruberin, present in the salt crusts.

The water in Lake Hillier is not deadly. It's safer than many more lakes in fact. The thing is you can't visit it. You can see it helicopter which you would see from the sky, and by boat. It might even be the safest place in Australia ngl.

🏝️ Since 2004, Netflix Employees Have Taken As Many Vacation Days As They’ve Wanted. I work for a tech company that also has unlimited vacation. In reality people take an average of 3-5 weeks. In some cases it is because they are too busy to take more. In other cases they are worried about being judged. It’s very dependent on what department you’re in.

You know studies were done and the business figured by giving you unlimited then most people would use less for fear of being seen as taking advantage of it too much. Then they also figured without set vacation days they would have to pay out unused ones at the end of year and such. Just one of those things that makes the business look good but actually is worse in some ways. I want to see someone take 5 to 6 weeks every year off and see how long they stay employed

Literally every object that exists, every action, every reaction, everything that has ever or will ever occur in the universe throughout all of time can be said to occur "due to physics". That's like saying "Due to math..." or "Due to science...". Do they not realize how lame that sounds?

⚛️ Sir Isaac Newton Was An English Mathematician And Physicist Who Lived From 1642-1727.
the Legend Is That Newton Discovered Gravity When He Saw A Falling Apple While Thinking About The Forces Of Nature. Whatever Really Happened, Newton Realized That Some Force Must Be Acting On Falling Objects Like Apples Because Otherwise They Would Not Start Moving From Rest. Newton Also Realized That The Moon Would Fly Off Away From Earth In A Straight Line Tangent To Its Orbit If Some Force Was Not Causing It To Fall Toward The Earth. The Moon Is Only A Projectile Circling Around The Earth Under The Attraction Of Gravity.
newton Called This Force "Gravity" And Determined That Gravitational Forces Exist Between All Objects.
using The Idea Of Gravity, Newton Was Able To Explain The Astronomical Observations Of Kepler.

_____

🔭 The Work Of Galileo, Brahe, Kepler, And Newton Proved Once And For All That The Earth Wasn't The Center Of The Solar System. The Earth, Along With All Other Planets, Orbits Around The Sun.
two Astronomers, J.c. Adams And U.j.j. Leverrier, Later Used The Concept Of Gravity To Predict That The Planet Neptune Would Be Discovered. They Realized That There Must Be Another Planet Exerting A Gravitational Force On Uranus Because Uranus Had Odd Perturbations In Its Orbit (Perturbations Are Deviations In Orbits).

The Detroit Zoo is a couple of kilometres away from the old Michigan State Fair grounds on Woodward Avenue. Whenever there was a circus at the fairgrounds, the elephants at the Zoo would make ultra-low frequency humming noises that were occasionally noticeable as vibrations inside their night house. Eventually they determined that the elephants at the zoo were communicating with the elephants at the fairground.

This is indeed true! The creators changed this because they didn't want to spoil the plot. (If you don't understand - the spoiler is the fact that he's the one who destroyed the Death Star.)

Sad. The amount of plastic crap on this planet, and the constant demand for more, is a disgrace.

Actually there aren’t many plastic ones anymore since the company that made them seems to have gone out of business.

Flamingos don't actually live in the US. They are only seen in Florida as vagrants.

It would help that the US has a very small Flamingo population to begin with. They are mostly in coastal Africa and South America.

The American flamingo is found in Central and South America and the Caribbean. It is also occasionally seen in Florida and along the Gulf Coast as a vagrant. The American flamingo doesn't breed in the United States.

I'm sure that there's also a Khazakstani team that also hasn't won a match since 1922, why would we be interested in some specific american team?
