40 Times People Had To Deal With Insane Parents Who Felt More Entitled To Things Than Anyone Else
It’s well known that beggars can’t be choosers. But as you probably already know, the opposite happens too.
In the minds of choosing beggars, they feel more entitled to things than the rest of us. While we stand in lines, they go straight, while we pay for a purchase or service, they think they can get it for free. Don’t ask how come it’s fair, because it’s not!
And there’s a whole corner of Reddit dedicated to sharing such infuriating examples, known as the Choosingbeggars subreddit. This time, we take a look into the cases when parents get desperate for things and try to use their kids to gain things free of charge or with a hefty discount. Scroll down through the posts and let us know your thoughts in the comment section!

So You Hate Kids
No, You Can’t Have My Dog
Whether we like it or not, our parents plant mental and emotional seeds in us. These seeds grow as we do. In some families, they are seeds of love, respect and independence. In other families, it’s fear, guilt, obligation and toxic mentality.
So while it may be hard to wrap your head around why exactly some parents use their kids to get special treatment, this often happens with controlling parents. Controlling parents tend to be anxious, paranoid and possessive. They like taking things into their hands and knowing what’s best for their kids. Sometimes that means they don’t allow their kids to nurture their personalities and forbid them from taking interest in things, like playing guitar or joining a soccer team at school.

Susan Petang from The Quiet Zone Coaching, a certified life coach, told Bored Panda that hobbies give us a release from the responsibilities we all have. “They allow us to blow off steam, grow our curiosity and intellect, and can even lead to career paths that will be joyful instead of monotonous.” Her advice to parents is to encourage their children's hobbies because the lesson that hobbies teach us is one of self-care.

Susan also explained that as our children grow, they slowly start to separate from us. For controlling parents, this may be a particularly challenging time. “From the 'Terrible Twos' to the pains of adolescence, the purpose of the journey is to teach our kids how to be independent, happy, and healthy adults who give something to the world around them.”
However, the life coach warns that if you're making all the decisions for your children, they're not learning how to make decisions for themselves. “You're not going to be around forever to advise and guide them; they have to learn to do it alone.”

Moreover, pathologies of families are carried through the generations until someone (and it's probably you) decides, "It ends here!!", Kristen argues. “Somewhere in the midst of your dysfunctional family, you knew in your soul this is not right and it desperately needs to change.” This is what she calls a pioneer spirit which drives us to speak up. “You may be the first and only one who ever speaks up. However, your boundary setting could be the very thing to open their eyes to this destructive pattern and heal it once and for all.”

Load More Replies...Hey, I'm giving my kids a party at Disneyland can everyone contribute $500?
You're ruining my child's birthday! How can you all be so selfish! :)))
Load More Replies...Yes, yes, YES! The fact that she's never been asked to help pay for any other child's birthday party should've clued her in to the fact that this is extremely inappropriate!
Yes you are, same as you pay for everyone to "come there" if you have it at home.
This has been a thing for along enough that everyone knows yes, you plan a party that costs money? You're paying for people to attend. Unless it's planned ahead of time in lieu of gifts? That would seem reasonable. But they'd be on here complaining about how someone didn't bring a gift on top of paying to attend a party
Spot on. Bet this person would flip her lid if the roles were reversed and they were asked to pay to go to someone else's party
Load More Replies...Yes, yes you are. You must never be invited to parties because you clearly don’t understand the concept of one
As IF Her Majesty's unfortunate spawn stuck with this mother should not be absolutely buried in top-of-the-line brand-name goodies AS WELL AS the extravaganza party.
Load More Replies...So what you should have done is talk with the parents prior to booking the trampoline place and see if they were willing and able. Rather than door check them for an entry fee.
Hey I'm having a party at the Burj-Al-Arab's "Royal Suite". Could you perhaps contribute $15,000.00?
Look its reasonable to ask ppl to pay for this kind pf birthday event but u book it after u get the money from them and dont expect presents as well
When were they informed of the cost? I might have paid if it was close friend of mine asking, even if it was last minute, but I would've still scolded him/her about not informing me earlier.
Yes, you are "really supposed to pay for 20 people" to come to your kid's birthday. Under no circumstance does one invite people to a party where they have to first pretend that they want to go, shop for a gift, get all dressed up, stand around all day, come up with a good lie so they can leave, and pay for your party. Yes, you pay for 20 people, and you send them a small token of your appreciation for attending the following week.
See...I can kinda see both sides. If I were the parent of a child going I would chip in 10 for my kid or 10 per my children...but if she's asking last minute after this being planned for months then fk no! You can't say where it is and see how many are coming then wait till the date arrives to then ask for money!
Idk I don't think it's THAT weird or out of line to ask for a small chip-in, however if it's too expensive then maybe don't go to the trampoline park. It's a weird way to fill a birthday party but I'm Dutch so I'm never surprised when people ask for others to chip in :')
at the very least it is cheap babysitting for a few hours?
Load More Replies...Why would you plan something you know you cannot afford?!? Live within, or better yet UNDER, your means.
I would thank this woman for the unintentional warning. I would not let any child of mine enter this person's house and be exposed to her influence, even for an afternoon.
Why have it at the trampoline park if you can’t afford it. The regular park is just as nice but I bet she’d charge parents for hotdogs and juice with an up charge for cake and ice cream
Yes. You are supposed to pay. That's how it works. If you can't afford a Trampoline Park, go to McD's, or have it at your own home and ask attendees if they'd bring a snack. Stop trying to look like you have money. You don't
Inviting someone somewhere for a birthday means they don't gotta pay for the s**t!
If you weren't going to pay for all the children yourself you should have made that perfectly clear when you invited people. How stupid are you? Do you ask for reimbursement when you invite someone over to dinner? (Assuming you actually have friends that would want to visit you).
I don't really see the problem? When I was growing up my mum would pay for me and my best friend for expensive things and everyone else had to pay for themselves if they wanted to come. If someone couldn't/didn't want to come we'd just do something small with them later.
I think it’s dumb af that essentially people have to pay for their own parties. I mean it’s dumb to have a party that’s too expensive and just expect people to pay, but I think we should normalize people making some kind of contribution to a party that’s being held outside the person’s home. Like in this case, maybe not every guest should be REQUIRED to pay $22 to the mom, but it would be cool if it was normalized so maybe some of the guests give the mom $5 or something.
For me this kind of depends. If the parent asked for people to bring money to help pay for the party instead of a gift and it were family and close friends, I'd say this is alright. $20 is kind of the standard gift range where I'm from, so I'd be fine paying for entry so the kids could play and do something different and fun together. But if it were kids from class (the parents were basically strangers) it's rude to make entry contingent upon paying when you don't know what someone can and is willing to afford.
Kids wont die if they dont have big birthday celebrations. Dont do it if you dont have the money for it.

Load More Replies...Our first year in our apartment we didn't know that there'd be no trick or treaters. Bought tons of candy. We were sad. The next morning we put out a little table with a bowl of candy and a sign inviting our neighbors to have some. My husband worked at 4am and up at 2:30am, we went to bed at 8pm. About 11pm that night we get woken up by someone pounding on the door. I open the door and it's our upstairs neighbor. Apparently we'd run out of candy and she needed us to fill the bowl straight away. I could've killed her. I said no, we were sleeping and shut the door in her face, went back to bed. When my husband opens the door to head out for work he calls me to come see. She took the table and bowl and left us a note. Since we didn't have candy she took what she was "owed". Alrighty then.
