Well in Australia it is illegal to ask a breastfeeding mother to leave or move elsewhere etc. Doesn't matter if she is feeding in the middle of a shopping centre, a restaurant etc. From my observations, it seems that other women are the ones that complain about breastfeeding in public, a lot more than men do.

This one makes me so sad, especially because of how women and PoC are so much more routinely dismissed, leading to sometimes dire consequences.

Most small businesses you guys claim are important would die. You’d never hear about anything new. It’d suck quickly.

I resent the mindfuck to manipulate you into buying something you don’t need, can’t afford, and either will never use or will use but the damn thing falls apart almost immediately. I also don’t like being bombarded with ads I never asked to see. I wouldn’t mind it if informative advertising was on demand—-you only see it when YOU CHOOSE to ask about a specific product, or what new products have been introduced. That way, once I decide I need a new “whatever”, I can learn about what’s out there, and make an informed decision on which to purchase. Advertisers can still make commercials, but they will only be seen when requested, and will need to be as honest and informative as they can.

Imagine a world where you aren't told that you need a ring to be married (or engaged), and boys and girls wear the same color clothes. All this was dreamt up and advertised to sell sell sell.

I don't think ads need to go entirely, but at their current level they sure as hell count as a constant visual and auditory disturbance, and need to be severely curtailed.

If nobody bought anything they saw on TV or a billboard, they'd have to stop advertising. It's up to us.

There's a flip side to this coin, though. Advertisements and sponsorships are a huge part of what keep the arts functioning in modern society.

I think a better thing would be if a product or company is above a certain value or age, they aren't allowed to advertise. Eliminates ads for things everyone is well aware of, and gives an opportunity to smaller and lesser known ones.

The worst are ads letting you know how good the company is or that buying their product makes the world better. If you have to convince others you are good, you aren't. How about those great ads from BP, Exxon, Ford, and Mercedes Benz all promising to be off fossil fuels in 30 years. $100 million ad campaign from Coke letting me know they donated $200K water to hurricane victims . If they really cared, they'd use the $100 million to build the needed emergency water purification plants they mastered before the hurricane hit. Hurricane Katrina wasn't the first one to hit that place.

How sad that people like this think so little of others. This attitude shows that they think other people are stupid, and they are contemptuous of them because of that. What point is being made by stating that they "didn't know something existed until 10 seconds ago". So? What does that have to do with anything? Nothing. Advertising doesn't "make" people want anything. Heard the old saying, "Build a better mousetrap and the world with beat a path to your door"? It's wrong. That won't happen because humans aren't telepathic. People have to know about the better mousetrap before they will come to the door. Advertising is nothing more than informing people about the better mousetrap.

Especially political advertising! The need to pay for political ads has corrupted the democratic process.

All the nay-sayers must think we only get info from advertising. How about talking to people, reading, listening to experts? We use SO MUCH MORE stuff we do NOT need than the amount of stuff we would miss if we didn't know about it. Most of it plastic.

In the United States there is a large percentage of people who are incarcerated essentially for being poor. They couldn't pay a fine and then they get put in prison.... so.....
