Back in the day when this was first worn girls wore lots of "petticoats" underneath giving the skirt the appearance of lots of volume. I recall girlfriends of mine wearing 4 or 5 petticoats at a time even just during the day at school...that was the late 50's and early 60's style popular at the time.

Probably because they aren't wearing all those layers on crinalon slips.....it made it so full and bulky.

The volume comes from crinolines worn underneath the dress. Don't use a crinoline and the dress will not have the same volume. (read some costume/dress books for further explanations.)

Could be that the photos aren't actually prom photos but something else (they attended a wedding together... or their engagement party...)

I agree with you! Even the ones, where both of the pics are taken at the prom night - the parents look way older on the pics. But it might be because their fashion and hair-style choices are something that are connected to olda people in our mind.

The title just says that the daughter wore her mother's dress to prom, not that she wore her mother's prom dress. There's no indication that the mother wore it to her own prom, just that she owned it. The people on the left cannot be high school students.

A lot better color quality and way more makeup

They were older mentally as well, not like these f*****s eating tide pods nowadays. Btw im not that old but my generation are a bunch of fake instagram obsessed tards. I have much respect for the older generations. Alot of young people today are pampered and sheltered, then they get sent out into the world with less than idealistic expectations..only to find out tide pods are indeed poisonous and dont taste anywhwre near as good as they look.

The phenomenon is that the mother's look is associated with "old" because that is what old people who never changed their style look like.

The fashion (hair do, etc) of the '80's is a part of the older look.

Check high school class photos from the 30s. They all look like they're forty years old. Life was harder back then.

Now you could ever and ever be a child (mentally) all the time. Life is not so hard now :)
