Cats have the uncanny ability to get into the strangest of places. They've got a knack for wandering around. Often, you might never know where they've been. But sometimes, these stealthy animals unknowingly give away their game by leaving a little bit of evidence, in the form of perfect, little paw prints.
Whether they're pressed into a patch of fresh cement, smudged across the windscreen of a car, or painted onto your new linen pants, there's something heart-warming about discovering a tiny paw print in an unexpected place. So much so that there's an entire online community dedicated to sharing pics of kitty paw prints spotted in cute places.
Cat Was Here has no less than 69,000 members who congregate to purr over a collection of marks left by little feline feet. Some might make you laugh, while others could have you wondering where your own cat has been.

Years after my last cat died, I have her paw print on a shelf from when she walked on floor leveler that hadn't dried. (and yes, I thoroughly cleaned her paws)
You don't even have to like cats to find their little paw prints utterly cute. Unlike dogs, their tiny feet carry a certain elegance. They're dainty, mysterious, and somehow, always perfectly placed.
As we know, many cats do as they please. And this also means they go where they please. Some prefer to stay in the confines of their home. But others might surprise you with how far they can travel.
According to U.K. pet insurance company Petplan, the average cat's roaming distance is fairly small, at 40 to 200 meters from home. But research from the Zoological Society of London shows that some cats can cover an area of more than 25 acres when they go on their mysterious adventures.

Petplan notes that cats living in rural areas tend to roam the most, especially when they’re young, unneutered males. While cats in urban areas typically stay closer to home, often having to share their territory with other cats.
"To avoid conflict, these cats might only visit certain areas at specific times to reduce the chances of running into other cats with overlapping territories," adds the site.

I used to take care of 20 or so homeless cats, I called them my "porch kitties". My landlord painted the porch light blue (yuck) and the railings white. He couldn't understand why there were blue paw prints all over the rails and white paw prints all over the porch, because he put a piece of tape across the steps with a "wet paint" sign!😂 I loved it!

The experts from pet tracking device company Tractive explain that a cat’s territory is the area that it will defend against intruders. These would most likely be other neighborhood cats, dogs, or wildlife.
"A cat’s range includes all the places that it travels to. So, if your cat is allowed to roam freely outdoors, their territory may be your backyard," notes that site, adding that your cat's range may include your backyard, a few neighboring yards, and a local park, too.

A cat's territory is divided into different categories and they vary depending on the animal's indoor or outdoor lifestyle. "A core territory is a place where cats feel safe and secure. Activities like sleeping or toileting, when a cat is vulnerable to attack, usually take place in this core territory," explains Tractive.
A hunting territory takes a domestic cat further. This is where the cat hunts or searches for "gifts" for you, like mice, birds, and the other creatures they love to bring home or eat.
"Shared or common territories are places that your cat is OK sharing with others. Including people, other cats, dogs, or other pets," notes the Tractive site. "An example of a shared territory could be your living room or your garden, where the whole family, including pets, hangs out together."

I was so annoyed the other week when I hand washed my car and then that night was Sahara desert sand night (for non-Europeans, at certain times of the year and certain wind directions, sand gets picked up and carried across and then deposited. It’s not dramatic, just makes things look dirty). However if I’d come out to this instead I’d have been enchanted and annoyed. Enchoyed. Annchanted.

My Zeus wanted milk from bottom of cereal bowl badly and I wouldn't give it to him, lactose and sugar etc. I read while eating so would have book in left hand, spoon in right, bowl on arm of overstuffed recliner. One day he zoomed himself into my cereal bowl, first time was accident but he laid there happily cleaning it off. Ever after he'd take a flying leap across room to land in my bowl on purpose to get to clean the milk off. i switched to vanilla skim soy milk when it came on market, it's the only alternative that soaks into cereal correctly. Normally the idea of skim milk ..blech...but for soy milk the 2% or whole equivalents kind of coat cereal instead of sink in

Made a pan of brownies and I woke up to this. Yes, those are telltale white furs in the pawprints, pretty much incriminating one of my four cats in particular. Don't worry, no kitties actually consumed chocolate, though I'm sure the warm brownie was a little foot spa for her feet.

We had a Tripod kitty decades ago, she was a total sweety! She actually saved me and the kids from a fire! My husband stupidly dumped the ash bucket into the kitchen trash can and there were still live embers in it from the night before, it was 'sort of' smothered from the top, completely covered, but there was plenty of air in between things under the ash that was smouldering. Bug(the kitty) jumped on my bed and walked all over my head until she woke me up! The trash can sat right by the back door so I grabbed the handle and d**g it outside, dumped it out and hit stuff with the hose. When she would pull her ears back we called her our 'wedge-headed tripod', she was so silly!

My old gray girl Wintressia was an outdoors cat for the first part of her life (my mom didn't let any of the animals come inside the house.) She would usually sleep in the garage and one of her favorite places was on top of my sister's New VW Beetle XD My sister would curse her out when she'd find little pawprints down her windshield. winwin4-68...c2c434.jpg

As a cat servant I do not understand people that have cats and just leave food sitting on the cabinet to cool or set or whatever without sturdy covers over the food. "No cats on the cabinet" rules only work while you are actively watching the cabinet.

The local Next Door group is a bunch of reactionary whiners- and I know they’re not all that way since it depends on the population. Recently someone complained that a cat had walked through the wet concrete when they had their driveway repoured and *they wanted the cat’s human to pay for repairs!* Instead of viewing it as the treasure it is they thought the cat’s person should knowtheir cat did it and confess. I’ve had indoor/outdoor cats my entire life and haven’t always known what they’re up to when out and about. Even my tiny little Ragdoll would let herself out through the dog door and get up to stuff and I didn’t know until my son told me.
