They have been around for decades so I don't see them going anywhere.

I did try that, circa 2004, in Malaysia of all places. Within a couple weeks, everything was covered in dust and grease.

Well I do not agree to this one either ... My mother kitchen is white and has always been. It looks clean without a lot of effort (and we cook min. once a day, often twice) and the very big positive side is that it is 30 year old and does not look that outfashion.

I never understood people buying hutches/cabinets for an ungodly amount of money that look like they were pulled out of a barn.

I hate grey walls, it makes me feel like I'm in an asylum.

They look fine in any kind of ranch setting, but do not belong in the suburbs.

And you have to waste so much energy for heating those high rooms. I'm quite sure energy consuming stuff will soon be outdated.

I really cringe at those. Just like "clever" t-shirts.

Painting wood furniture should be a crime.

If you want marble put it in a bathroom and use a more durable stone in the kitchen

I never thought about it like that, but you're right. Easy to get stuck up there with a kitchen fire.

Not every person can have a Victorian house.

Some people nowadays like to dismantle the upper kitchen cabinets and replace them with a simple shelf + artwork / paintings. It's playful, but if I did that I would end up with literally zero storage. Plus at 6'5'', I hate to bend down all the time.

Open layouts are also harder to heat, which means both higher heating bills and worse for the environment. Smaller rooms are more economical and environmentally friendly.

This is true of any kind of decor. If you use it smartly, it will age well. If you don't, it will look tacky.

Yes, in my hometown I noticed people knocking down elegant prewar villas and replacing them with bunker/diner-type windowless white boxes. It looks awful.

I think barn doors look great.

I suspect in Alaska it is there for a reason. Hauling bricks up there is going to be difficult and wood will rot.

Well, what's the alternative? Silver toned metals, which are fine it you like cold colours but personally I would rather go for warmer gold.

I disagree, if used well I don't see something like this becoming dated so soon. And it's not a new trend either.

Why? My house is black and if seems to be just like any other paint.

I love the house that is pictured. It's in a perfect setting and it compliments the darker stones in that pile. I also like the contrasting fence and windows. It's all rather striking.

I recently saw a house that was the darkest Navy blue I'd ever seen. I don't usually like blues but this navy looks so good.

You have to refresh paint for it to keep looking good no matter what color. Black is classy... Just wonder if it's hot in the summer?

I don't know why black would be any harder to up keep that a different color?

I want so bad to paint my brick house charcoal, with crisp white trim, and add cedar window boxes and porch posts.

I guess it makes sense if you live in a cold climate, but you would have 4 figure electric bills trying to cool that during a Florida or Arizona summer.

I'd hate to imagine how hot those houses get, too. Maybe ok in cold places but anywhere it gets above 25c and you're pretty much living in a sauna.

Lots of flippers here in Austin are doing this now that they've moved on from charcoal gray (always with white trim). It's idiotic in our climate. Understand that the temperature in Austin as I type this is 101°F.

Huh, i never considered black was hard to keep up. I just figured it was a bad idea in hot climes and also like in the picture? That's featureless. But if you actually use animation colour theory and use true black very rarely and have several 'shades' of black that are actually like, darker greys and purples? I think you need at least 2-3 colours on the outside of a house. Just 1 or 2 is gonna make the house look bad no matter what they are.

In this month's HGTV magazine, it literally talks about the trend of black houses, and suggests the different shades of black to use, and how awesome it looks! (6/22)

just read an article that black is the new trend. Not for me too depressing.

So many of these are just plain hateful. If someone likes something, let them like it. No need to curse and whine that someone wants or like xyz. It doesn't cause me any pain or injury for someone to decorate or remodel their house the way they want.

And instead paint it pink? Yuk!

My dream house would be black outside and inside with minimal lights and some giant bubble covering it to avoid any sun to get in (okay maybe last part is a bit unrealistic but it's just a dream xD)
