Hi everyone, my name is Lua Lazarovic, and a few years ago I had a dream to make my way into the wonderful world of creative imaging and be able to express myself—all while doing a form of work that brings actual joy to my soul.
I worked hard on building up an online portfolio, where I would post regularly (usually daily). After exploring many subjects, I found that food illustration brings a special kind of delight both to me and to my followers, so I started focusing more on this subject. However, the online world is a very competitive place, especially for growing artists. Although I have reached many people, I never got that one commission or collaboration everyone dreams of, the one that would allow me to demonstrate my skills and be seen by other people who might need my services.
So here I am, showing some of my work to the BoredPanda community, in the hopes that—if you guys and gals like my drawings—I may reach the right people. Becoming involved in an illustration project would really be the best Christmas present I could wish for.
Until now, I have explored a varied range of subjects (see the link to my portfolio below), but for now, I decided to show you my food illustrations. I hope they will bring you joy and inspire you to try something new.

Ramen Soup
Oh, yeah... Ramen is incredibly tasty and (the real deal is) extremely difficult to make... and draw. :)
Load More Replies...Yum noodles and beef or pork with young onions sliced and cooked boiled eggs just lovely!
Awww... thank you! I love most things to do with the 50's.
Load More Replies...My name is Lua Lazarovic, and I am an architect and free-time illustrator with a young and growing family. I am one of those boring day-job people you would never dream hide anything more interesting than what is visible at first sight.
I currently live in Hilversum, The Netherlands, but my dream is to one day live in Scotland. I love reading (especially) fantasy and sci-fi novels, and watching Studio Ghibli animations, as they entice my imagination and inspire me.
Soy Glazed Chicken
Well, Wyndmere, I guess this article is not about personal culinary preferences but about illustrating food. I'm sorry you don't like soy, it's a delicious ingredient, in my opinion. If it were captioned differently would you have liked the drawing?
Load More Replies...Walnut Rum Cake
Thanks. I am really curious to try this dessert. A friend of mine just gave me her mom's recipe, but I am terrible and actually baking sweets.
Load More Replies...Wow that cake and everything else about this is so vivid! Great work!!
I have always been drawn to drawing and writing, ever since childhood. These two ways of expressing myself came naturally and allowed me to think about things, reiterate daily events, add beauty and meaning to them and enrich them. There was no judge and jury to evaluate me for what I was doing, so I persevered with pleasure in these two endeavors.
At some point, I realized I do not have the technical abilities to draw all the images in my head so I started practicing by drawing from reality. It started with plants and animals and I slowly graduated to food. It seemed to be a subject that people particularly enjoyed, so I persevered, but I don't consider myself as being exclusively focused on it.
Chocolate Cherry Cheese Cream Tarts
It looks crazy and delicious 😋 at the same time. I wish I can find one here.
Hahaha... Since cherries are my favourite fruit, I can attest to the fact that these cookies are delicious. I don't know about their availability, though... but you could try making some at home this summer. :) Thanks for the compliment.
Load More Replies...The Cherry and cream cheese tart...I cannot make up my mind which images of this artist I love more. Well just another yummy moment!
Insane mouth-watering realism, looks good enough to eat!!! This is my favorite one, hands down. Incredible talent. 😍
Goat Cheese Berries And Jam
Fantastic detail and color....looks like I could lift a berry right out of the painting!
Aww... the part I love most about this is the amount of jam dripping from the slices. If I did this in real life, I know a bunch of people who would line up to scold me for wasting so much jam. :)
Load More Replies...This is my favorite! I would love to have this hanging in my kitchen!
Food is a source of inspiration in as much as it looks pleasing to the eye, has interesting textures and colors, and allows me to learn new rendering techniques. It is an exercise in drawing, which grew into more than that due to it gathering an audience on social media platforms. When I really draw, I don't have a plan. A reference image will attract me, I will start making a study of it, and I will add a lot of fantasy to that study as I go along. It comes from somewhere within, where I don't overthink and I don't plan—it just flows out. And I think this is true freedom, as I understand the term.
I draw a lot of things, from plants, animals to complex images with a high degree of symbolism. Practically, anything can become a subject with the right reference images. I draw a line at the scenery—for some reason I was never able (or patient enough) to draw landscapes. I have to admit that I am primarily fascinated by the human body and would like to improve my skills in drawing it, especially facial features.
Chocolate Cheesecake
Strawberry Tarts
It will come as no surprise that I like food indiscriminately—there are very few things I dislike and I am generally curious to try out new things. I am not a great cook, and rarely have the time for anything too elaborate. I'm more on the side of 'enjoying' food than of making it.
Favorite foods are numerous and differ with the season and mood. I would say that at the moment I am dreaming of a nice rotisserie chicken with a side of oven-baked potatoes and garlic sauce.
Dumpling Soup
Yes... I love them too. I think I love most stuff in Asian cuisine, actually (and yes, when I say Asian I mean Indian too).
Load More Replies...Pancakes With Blueberry Jam
See the artist done it again another lovely image...I got to think about making a gallery wall just with this artist work in my kitchen ...lovely!
It gives me a boost of self-confidence and brightens my day when my artworks make people happy and appreciative of my skills. It's not like I am contributing to a greater cause, but it does improve my mood—sometimes that is enough of a 'greater cause' for me.
Blueberry Cream Cheese Pie
Thank you for the compliment!
Load More Replies...Feuillantine
Hmm, maybe I'm just ignorant, but I'd never heard of these! They look incredible
I think they would usually be served at fancy restaurants... The pictures I saw of these seemed to be from a 'haute cuisine' magazine. I personally haven't tried one in my life.
Load More Replies...Fruitcake
I love it, but Is it FRUIT CAKE or CHEESECAKE with FRUIT? Captioned incorrectly, maybe? Beautiful drawings!
Hi Robin. I guess you are right. It is a cheesecake with fruit. Let me see if I manage to update that title...
Load More Replies...Pancakes With Baked Apples And Blackberry Jam
You're an amazing artist ❤ and I think if you were to seperate the colors a bit more..like the reds for instance. Say, if the red skin around the apples and the red in the blackberry syrup were more distinct with different hues this would be incredible! ❤❤❤❤ with love ✌
Loaf Cake
Thank you! Somehow I seem to get the berries right most often. :))
Load More Replies...Yeah, I really like recipes with berries, so I draw them all the time. :)
Load More Replies...Bite Sized Desserts
Why are you still "trying to be an illustrator".....You are already there!
Prawn Soup
I must admit, I love using chopsticks! They are a must for noodles but whenever I am alone, with no one around to judge, I whip them out for all sorts of food! This picture makes me happy. 😁
Damn I do the same even when there are others around to judge 😂
Load More Replies...Well, yeah. So you can pick them by the tail and eat the rest of it. ;) Trust me, it's how it's served in restaurants.
Load More Replies...Wonton Soup
Apple Pie With Vanilla Ice Cream
:)) That's a new one. Could you please explain? Is it because of the reflections on the apple pieces?
Load More Replies...Dumplings
Marinated Olives And Mozarella With Toast
Yeah... I would have this appetizer every day if it weren't incredibly fattening... but it's a guilty pleasure, what can I say. :)

Pretzels With Butter
Baked Pineapple With Ice Cream
Cranberry White Chocolate Crispy Tart
Tortillas
Caramel Pecan Cake
Amaretto Poached Pear Cake
Soy Sauce Fried Tofu Dinner
Honey Lavender Scones
Apple Hand Pie
Peach And Syrup Pancakes
Hi Robin. I guess one should call them crepes. Here where I live, crepes are called pancakes too, so sorry for the confusion. :D
Load More Replies...Baked Pear
Bacon Basket
Haha... I think you are the first person who ever told me they hate bacon. Most people look at this with tiny hearts in their eyes for that piece of meat...
Load More Replies...Oysters On Ice
Oh, mine too... I love oysters. If I have one wish for when I get old and retire, is that I can afford to live in Cancale and eat oysters every morning by the dozen, next to the seashore.
Load More Replies...Cookie Cream
Bacon And Eggs
Roasted Pear With Caju Sauce
I want to swipe my finger across one of those moist, slippery, delicious looking pears!!
Well, with so many recipes to choose from, go and treat yourself to something really tasty. :)
Load More Replies...Feeling embarrassed that your food drawings look better than my food photos. Great work!
First, thank you for the compliment. Second, if you ever feel bad and really think my drawings look better than your photos, just remember that I can embellish my subjects... to the extent of my imagination, basically. But I really doubt they look better than the real thing. *hugs*
Load More Replies...Are these digital paintings? Really well done, I like the technique.
They have s handmade appearance that I really like. It's like the superrealism of the '80s, before there was an app for everything.
Load More Replies...I'm afraid I 'm going to dissent and say that none of these look appealing or appetizing to me (if that was the intent). I'm not certain if it the perspective, the color choices or an aversion to digital drawings. I think some nuances are lost in digital vs traditional media. Even though they the don't appeal to my personal aesthetic, I can appreciate the effort that went into making them.
As an artist of 40 years, with a degree, these are amazing. And reminds me of a series of paintings done by a very great artist in the mid 80s. I’ll have to find his name in my art book at home.
First, thanks for telling me about those artists. I checked them out, and boy, are their drawings amazing! I don't even come close to their level of realism... They really are an inspiration to me now. :) Second, I hope you are right about stylizing. I look at a lot of young talents nowadays, who inspired by Disney and Studio Ghibli manage to create their own unique style, which is very expressive and detailed and usually not realistic at all. Take for example Sara Tepes and Loish, both of whom I admire greatly for their technique and often for the subjects as well... Loish, at least, has managed to produce some really deep and meaningful art. Sara is more of a girly type of artist, focused more on portraits than anything else. Still, very skilful. And if you are wondering, I do like to delve into more complex subjects than simply food... It's just that I feel like my skills are still rather undeveloped and there are fewer chances to actually be commissioned for this type of subjects.
Load More Replies...Oh, this happens to me all the time... Imagine I actually need to stare at these for a couple of hours until I finish the drawing. :))
