i loved going to cons, but the fact people never showered was gross
I am a big nerd (rol, gaming, reading fantasy etc) and I used to spend a lot of time in 'nerd' places, like the local nerd bar and some rol conventions. It is impressive how dirty some people could be. Also how toxic and sexist are some of the guys in those communities. We had a guy who used to hang with us and he used to try to grope all of the women in the group. At the begining we were more lenient because of 'bad social skills' but at some point it was obvious that he was doing it on purpose and we kicked him out.
I think a fair bit of that has to do with the costumes not being launderable.
Not really. I used to frequent a lot my local nerd bar and the local rol asociations (where people dressed with normal washable clothes). Some people is just very dirty.

4 year comic con San Diego veteran here, this is really not a problem. More of a played out meme than anything. Yes some folks have a BO issues and you have to account for the fact that in SD in july it gets friggin hot and there is alot of standing in line without great AC for 100,000+ people.

I have said it before, and i will again...big companies need to start saying they will look at everything when hiring, they will see you eat a pod, lick a toilet, disrespect atrocities, be racist, homophobic etc and you will never get a job. They need to do it so that kids see and make better choices, because something is not working.

My friend's little dog got out right as we were finishing up a walk, came running up to my dog and I didn't realize he bit her in the nose. She had 11 pups so she just rolled him and scared the pee out of him (even though he tried to bite her again), looked really surprised when I was like "whoa!" Then I was so off-kilter that when my friend reached out her hand I F*****G SHOOK IT. I forgot she loaned me a coffee cup I was still holding. I now have to fake my death and move to Mongolia.

Or my son's favourite tale to reminisce over: when we were walking into the supermarket and the wind flipped my dress up [thank God I was wearing leggings so it wasn't as bad but still!])
