Our Librarian This Halloween
After being told countless times by students that he looks a lot like a certain TV character, our librarian finally gave in and embraced his inner sociopath this Halloween. He sat like this for the first hour the library was open.
This Library Was Built Exactly Over The Canada-USA Border (The Black Line)
So you are able to borrow books that are banned in the US in the canadian part, "smuggle" them over the border, read them, and then take them back?
There are books which are banned in the USA? For real? I didn't know this is still happening today.
Load More Replies...Me: *Spots book that I have been looking for* Me: * Notices that it is in the other country Me: * NOOOOOOOOOOO!
This might be a dumb question but do you need a passport to enter this library?
There's a podcast out about this library! This American Life episode "room of requirement"
Yes! Iranian families who could not all meet in either the US or Canada met here. Made me cry.
Load More Replies...You can cross the line so that you don't live in fear for a few minutes.
"Two librarians divided by countries, united in their careers. Will it be love? Or will it be MURDER!?"
Load More Replies...Do you need your passport? What if you go in the American side and try to exit the Canadian side? Don't let you-know-who find out about it, he'll try to get funding for another wall
The table is didvied. It has 1 leg that is seperated by the line. Where is border patrol???
This American life featured this library! Families affected by the travel ban meet there if someone is in america and they can’t leave!
All day I'd probably be stepping over that line going "I'm in Canada! Now I'm in America!"
Currently serving an unforseen but sadly vital function of allowing family members worried they wont be able to return if they leave the US to make contact with family members in Canada, due to current hostile immigration policies.
"Derby Line, VT, is well known for the Haskell Free Library and Opera House, which was built on the international border of the USA and Canada..." http://haskellopera.com/
This is the Haskell Free Library & Opera House in Derby Line, Vermont and Stanstead, Quebec. And, yes, it was indeed deliberately built on the border in 1904.
This needs to be so much higher up...read the story behind this photo and I'm not crying just got something in my eye
Russia, Turkey, Kasachstan- these three Countries are part Europe and part Asia- but since the border of the continents always stay inside ones state, i think its different.
Load More Replies...Many immigrants and long-term foreign residents such as students who risk losing their visas or being denied re-entry based on profiling guidelines if they travel out of the US will meet with family from overseas in this library.
Do you need your passport to cross the line? Or are there guards at each entrance?

My Library Has A Spot For People To Listen To Records
Such a great idea/service! My library, the main branch had a huge collection of phonograph records of all genres. They also had these old fashioned record players and old fashioned head phones (think 78rpm, thick Bakelite and cloth cords). I spent hours in that room when I was growing up. I haven't been in that room for years, but next time I'm at the main branch, I'm going to check it out. I bet they have 21st century equipment these days!

Where are all these great libraries? It's a shame the locations didn't accompany the pictures.
Really funny article, nice to take a break from stress with. Bored Panda is my sprit animal. Great post! DOGS ARE ALSO MY SPIRIT ANIMAL
These libraries are so creative and meanwhile my local ones underwhelm me and I rarely visit die to that and many including my most local being difficult to get to by bus
i was wondering: if you borrow a wrapped book (those blind date book or banned books) and you return them.. do you have to rewrap them?
I would guess not, I think they would just wrap new books whenever one is taken!
Load More Replies...The books for tall people are in a used book store in my town. The whole store is very old and used to be a department store. Three levels of interesting nooks, twists, and turns. I've always thought that things like small appliances and other goodies that you want to use, but know you'll never touch more than once a year, those need to be available in libraries.
My ex-wife is a muralist, a very gifted painter. She made the children's reading room at the Destin Library (Destin, FL) into an underwater wonderland. should you ever find yourself there you should check it out. Something else about the library, because Destin is a tourist destination they have a section where anyone at all can take a book or leave a book.
I'm a bookbinder, and this post made me happy (except the one who turned discarded books into seatings... Can't stand people who "destroy" books in a way that you can't read them anymore, lol...)
Sooo want to incorporate some of those ideas into my own home/library! Love every second of this.
Man, these libraries are all SO COOL! I wish my local library was like this.
Libraries are not businesses and you should seriously consider seeing a therapist. Spending your time trolling social media sites all day long is neither healthy nor normal.
