There’s a fine line between designs that are jaw-droppingly original and ones that are truly awful. Unfortunately, a lot of people tend to lean heavily on the latter side of the line, so the world’s filled with design atrocities that will make you cringe. So bad they’re good? Nah. So bad they’re the worst.
The Crappy Design subreddit with more than 2.3 million members is home to the worst designs ever and we bring you the newest ones to scare your artistic friends with. Even if you know next to nothing about good design, you’ll intuitively shy away from some of these design choices. Scroll down, upvote your fave crappy designs, and let us know in the comments which ones you loved to hate the most.
When you’re done, have a look through Bored Panda’s earlier posts about the Crappy Design community here, here, and here.

I mean to be honest this looks close enough. It's a movie, unless there are doctors watching nobody will know the difference
Previously, Bored Panda spoke to the Crappy Design moderators to learn more about their community.
“The original motivation for the subreddit was to point out crappy designs. Nowadays, most subscribers probably come here for entertainment,” the moderators told us that a part of their followers is there just to have fun and gawk at truly ugly design decisions.
“However, it is common to have meaningful discussion here on why or why not something is crappy design,” they pointed out that some of the members actively participate in in-depth chats.

That's Not How It Works
Founded back in 2011, the community has flourished over its 9-and-a-half-year existence. Just a year ago, the Crappy Design subreddit had 1.7 million members and got more than 2 million page views each month. Those are huge numbers to be fair. However, since then, the sub has gained an additional half a million new followers.
But let’s hop back to what makes product designs good or bad. For instance, researcher Don Norman writes in his book ‘The Design of Everyday Things’ that good design is upfront and honest about what the thing does. No hidden purposes for Norman!
At the same time, he says that designs have to look beautiful and uncluttered while pushing the boundaries of what a particular object means to us. So we have to be innovative but simple while avoiding clutter and mediocrity. Quite a challenge, wouldn’t you think? No wonder there are so many bad designs out there.

Meanwhile, the Interaction Design Foundation stresses that bad designs are often overloaded with useless info and make us waste time to figure out what the thing does and how it works.
So if you’re designing something, make it as intuitive and simple as possible—after all, you wouldn’t want to create something messy that’s bound to end up on the Crappy Design subreddit, would you?
They Stopped Construction On The New Burger King In My Hometown Because The Building Is Backwards. They Put A Whole Building Up Backwards!
Yup... fort smith, Arkansas! It was big news here!
Load More Replies...As a person involved in the construction industry, i am surprised this doesn't happen more often. Architects often send builders ridiculous plans without any north arrow and only limited location data (like nearby fences). The guys on the ground charged with laying out are unlikely to have seen a master plan. They just have to turn the plan the wrong way around and hey presto! A backwards building. Swap the foreman a few times, issue a few updates to plans so now one knows what's going on and assumes their predecessor had a handle on things, and you can get quite far without anyone noticing.
Load More Replies...It happened to me with an IKEA wardrobe once... but a building? That's another level :D
This happened to my parents house. It was built backwards from the plans. This was discovered by their property lawyer before They bought it from the original owners. Had their lawyer not seen it they would have had to have paid to have it put right before they could have moved in which would have cost them thousands. Thankfully after going through the local council and being told it was ok to keep it the way it was they were able to move in.
It's not backwards, at least not if it's the one in Greenwood, SC. There was a weather related construction delay and it was an unusual layout to accomodate the drive-through lanes so people thought that meant they halted construction because it was backwards. The manager said it's built as designed and said there's one in a neighboring town with the same layout. https://greenwoodcalendar.com/its-not-backwards/
Apparently this one is in Fort Worth, Arkansas.
Load More Replies...Look at the Kelvingrove Museum in Glasgow. They built that the wrong way around as well and it's a little more impressive.
This happened to my grandparents house, the builders were looking at the plan upside down. Now the bedrooms are next to the street, the living room and balcony faces the quiet yard, and the entrance is on the opposite side to were it was before, so they had to turn the whole yard around.
That’s what happened in Leeds. For. a short time it was used as a homeless hostel. I had a client there. Nice flats apart from the potential instability! https://www.leeds-live.co.uk/news/leeds-news/24-million-leeds-apartment-block-18712107
Load More Replies...how many people do you think approved this burger king building? I mean and then to screw up so bad! >w<
This is what happens with Flat Pack..... No one understands the instructions !!
This has started to be a regular problem here in Colorado ever sence we legalized marijuana
Naw. He built it precisely to spec. It's the architect's fault for situating it wrongly.
Load More Replies...That didn’t stop the one in Burleson Texas yes we literally have a backwards Burger King the drive through is facing the highway that goes through town while the windows where u eat at face the farmland
..mistakes do happen I guess. maybe they were looking at the schematics on the wrong side of the paper...maybe they can get all the workers to "123" lift it up and turn it around like the Amish do with barns?
The Chili's in my town has the entry on the opposite side of the parking lot. So the handicapped parking spaces are farther away than some of the regular parking spaces. 😐
Now how are they supposed to "HEAL anyone's (THY) BURGERS"???
They did it when they put the foundation down for my L shaped home on the corner. The pool was supposed to be on the side toward the road and the sun and they reversed it. Went up to Orlando from Tampa on the weekend to check on the site and made them tear it up and do it right.
As funny as this would be... it's not true. It has a different layout because they are adding a drive thru.
happens. spent 6 months building a million dollar machine for a factory in Korea. built to spec, shipped, installed... when i arrived to bring it into service, yep, installed backwards. with some creative cuts and welds, we still managed to close the deal in time. korea was fun.
Wait ✋ what's the name of the town? I might be able to solve this mystery 🤔
I guess they couldn't understand the directions that came with the kit
No one could read the bloody PLANS!? This does not bode well for wherever this occurred.
Not true at all...they accommodated for 2 drivethrus but still funny because they put their sign opening soon backwards because of all the media attention...https://www.foxcarolina.com/news/burger-king-gets-last-laugh-after-social-media-rumors-about-construction-design-of-new-upstate/article_cc8fa17a-49fc-11ea-ab5d-33a623f70923.html
This is Greenwood SC. The building isn't backwards, when they rebuilt they intentionally moved the drive thru to the back of the building instead of the side and redesigned the parking lot. People lost their minds, but it was good free advertizing.
Supposedly it wasn’t and there is another Burger King with the same design within driving distance. They did adjust the drive-in (allegedly) due to traffic flow problems. https://greenwoodcalendar.com/its-not-backwards/
Oh...MY...LORD! The dumbing down of America. Not one person thought this was odd? God help us all!
Load More Replies...well once my guy was asked by the plan from the architect to put heaters on the balcony, I'm not surprised
The Chili's in Lincoln RI 02865 was built backwards & they left it that way!!
But why does it matter if it's backwards? They have a door on the other side, right? Can't people just walk around? I'd understand if it was upside down, but why the drama if backwards?
Apparently, it's not... Reports from multiple website have stated, inaccurately, that Greenwood's Burger King at 1214 72 Bypass NE was accidentally built backwards. The fake news made credible by the delay in construction was addressed by Greenwood Burger King's General Manager David Tinsley.
Load More Replies...Yes it looks like the front entrance is facing the bushes and that small building
Must be the same company that put up Piers Anthony's house some yrs back. It was put up backwards too.

The first one is very obviously meant to deter bikers and skateboarders...but also to give an idiot an outlet for showing how utterly immature he is. He succeeded blisteringly well. The second one--the gardening service's truck---I don't see the problem. It's two hands together holding seedlings, with the shirt sleeves clearly visible above the heels of the hands. Anyone seeing something else isn't focused on the PRODUCT.

this reminds me of when the government hired some people to cut some weeds in these planters on public sidewalks - they were overflowing and complained about - but a lot of the cleaning and gardening staff or whatever they are were laid off from COVID so someone came and cut ALL of the grass that was supposed to be there along with the weeds :/ can you tell it wasn't their job?
