You have a right to remain silent. It’s ALWAYS BEST to exercise that right, ALWAYS! If you are stopped by a law enforcement officer, take into consideration they get shot at and they want to feel safe, you can lower their heightened level of concern by just doing a couple of things. Always keep your hands in view. If you need to get something like an ID or paper, say what you want to do before you do it. Pull your car into a well lighted area. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, you may not get an answer but it’s worth trying. Try to calm yourself, talk slowly, be specific. And remember, not all cops are jerks, they are human beings just like you.
LOL...oh Mazer...this is wonderful advice, but does NOT work for everyone...especially in America, sadly. Sometimes, there is no "lowering their heightened level of concern"...since for many, their "concern" is that they are in front of a Black male. Nothing more. I have personally witnessed some of the most respectful, polite interactions with cops that do NOT end well for the driver...because they STILL insist on removing from the car, patting down, searching, interrogating...no matter how much in view your hands are or what you tell them you are going to do. They are human, you are correct...and that sadly comes with their human biases and prejudices, too. This may work fine for some...but not for all of us. Just some more tips to this that will help everyone: For 1. A cop may tell you "No" and are not free to leave. This doesn't mean they are violating your rights, but you may be held for investigative purposes. 2. This means a cop cannot search without your consent, however cops can still search by the following: getting a warrant, may have seen something in plain view that is illegal, dog alerted to something on in your car and now can search, search after getting to arrested, or if it is not your property and its someone else's, they give consent (ie. car). 3. This means an officer should not ask you any questions related to the crime without your lawyer present, but they can still ask you questions in reference to anything else not related to the crime.
If you're not being detained, then you're free to go. If you are detained, then they can only detain you for a "reasonable time" without arresting you. Cops will absolutely ask you questions about the crime even if you don't have a lawyer present, it's up to you to not answer any questions. Don't even answer questions that are seemingly innocent "Did you watch the game last night", may just be a leading question to find out where you were.

And never ever take any field tests for a DUI, all that will be used against you. Being polite, answering simple questions and following simple directions will get you out of most police interactions pretty quickly. If you are rude, posturing and acting threatened as soon as they walk towards you...you are already acting like you got something to hide.
This is BS. First most cops won't do anything illegal because it's a waste of time. The person's lawyer will have it thrown out of court because it was illegally done. As for the lawyer no you can't if you're in the street/city. Any lawyer will tell you they can't do anything until you're charged with something. If a cop pulls you over no you're not free to go otherwise he wouldn't have pulled you over. You're detained until he finishes writing you a citation or whatever the reason it was. In certain cases they don't need a search warrant. So make sure you know which cases they are before opening your mouth and being wrong.

If for example somebody matching my description committed a crime. Asking me questions and searching might clear me as a suspect, rather than them spending time focusing on me.

What this should say is: “You have rights, but you probably cannot exercise them or have them protected, because the police have and abuse a vast power disparity between civilians and police. It’s best to do whatever they want, because they might kill you or make up violations in revenge for standing up for your rights. Especially if you’re not a white male.”
No, you can read the warrant outside your home. You have to remain in one area under the "control" of an officer. They cannot seize any evidence that is not specifically covered under the warrant. In other words, they are searching for drugs and they find bloody knives they may NOT arrest you for that or seize the knives. Further investigations of you and the bloody knives are "illegal" if they would not have discovered the connection between you and the bloody knives in another way. Fruit of the poisonous tree.

Because police officers know your rights, and at any chance they get will try and trick you into revoking your rights. If an officer shows up at your door and asks that you let them in and you do so, you have waived your right to not have your home searched without probable cause. The police are free to go through anything they like in your home, and stay for as long as they please because you have given them permission to enter.

You’ll only make them mad and give them a reason to try extra hard to find the most broken laws they can.
