When we think of interiors, we immediately picture lavish living rooms with chandeliers or dreamy bedrooms with bougie candles and crisp sheets. No wonder that bathrooms often stay in the back of our minds where utility meets daily routines.

If you’re thinking of starting your bathroom makeover, pull your seat closer. We reached out to Eva Taute, interior designer and interior stylist based in Amsterdam, Netherlands, who runs the website “Hygge Styling,” who shared some great advice.
“Start with two things: the atmosphere you want to go for and work that out into materials and colors,” Taute said and added: “For example: calm, cozy, bright - then think about beige colors, warm woods, and possibly white stone to bring in the brightness. If you don’t have a lot of daylight, then think about built-in ceiling lights to fill the space with light.”
She continued: “Secondly, look at your space and how you can make the most of it - create a floor plan and think about how you will move in the space.”

The best thing about my last terrible apartment was the pink tile bathroom! I bought a beautiful condo and am *very* seriously considering putting in pink tile. (The tile needs to be re-done, it's slightly newer than my old pink tile one, but in worse shape)

We had one house when I was growing up that had the most beautiful bathroom I've ever seen. The house was in Tacoma, WA (not far from Wright Park) and was built right around the turn of the century. It had a beveled oval window in the solid oak front door, a sunroom and really tall ceilings. But the bathroom! It had a pink/cream marble tile more than halfway up the wall with an edge cap of black marble, also black marble sills and trim on the window, and vintage sink & clawfoot tub. It was the size of some restaurant restrooms. If memory serves, the floor was white penny tile with a black accents. Favorite one EVER!
