I will never understand two things related to this . 1, Why would anyone switch on or off the oven at someone else's place? So many stories like that, and it always baffles me. If I ever thought it was necessary, e.g. something smells burning, I sure would talk to the host, not just mess with their kitchen and walk away. 2, Why do people just randomly turn on an oven without opening the oven door first? Again, so many stories with plastic trays being melted by one family member that another one stored in there, or proofing dough being ruined etc. I don't think I have ever in my life NOT looked inside before turning it on.

What someone in the comments mentioned about the "try it once policy" is very far from a universal solution. Lots of kids are determined to not like anything that is not their 3 favourite junk foods. They will comply if they must, and try one piece of green pea, or a sliver of a new type of cheese, and immediately gag and make disgusted faces, because they convince themselves before they even touch the food that it is terrible. I used to feed such a child daily, and it was exhausting. (He was "ruined" by his neglectful parents and string of nannies for whom it was more comfortable to feed him 3 types of frozen rubbish all the time and he got used to it.) I was trying for a year and a half, and hardly any progress was made.

This is really not about gender. If the wife was insisting she was pregnant and kept telling the husband that this is something they already talked about, decided together etc., the husband would also question himself at some point. If it turned out the wife was sick, the husband would also have intrusive thoughts about "why did I not notice something earlier?!". Any half decent partner would, regardless of gender, because when you've been living with someone in harmony for a while, you feel like you know them. If they honestly insist on something that collides with how you see reality, first you'll try to explain they are wrong, but at some point you can't help but wonder if YOU are wrong.

In my home country, Hungary one case that was quite memorable was the kílling of a 29 year old taxi driver in '97. Two 14 year old girls promised him séx, so he took them to a wooded area nearby. They hit him in the head with a Fanta bottle, then stomped on him with their heavy platform shoes for close to an hour while he begged for his life, then finally hid him still clinging to life under leaf litter. They took his car and possessions, only to be stopped mere minutes later for driving erratically. Since the car and their feet was covered in blood, they admitted what they did instantly. They were sentenced to 8.5 and 9 years, serving about 6 and 7. One went back to prison for operating a brothel with underage girls, the other reportedly leads a "normal" life.

I was on autopilot, my brain refused to panic, instead it told me that it was one of my friends playing a joke. I had earphones in with loud music, so no clue if the person said anything. I felt his body with my back, he was larger and taller than me, so I would assume it was a man. (I'm a woman, early twenties at the time.) I just playfully jabbed my elbow back into his stomach/chest, and said something along the lines of "stop playing, silly", while laughing. Kept walking without ever looking back as he let go, maybe from pain, maybe from being surprised from my reaction. I was walking fast, so within seconds I got to the end of this stretch and from there on the pathway was very well lit, in full view of traffic and neighbouring windows. I got home without further incident, with every step growing more aware what had actually just happened. I managed to make it to behind closed doors before the shaking and panic set in. After 20 years I still shudder to think about it.

When I went to uni, I often visited a pub with a friend group, then walked home because it was about 20 minutes from my flat and the buses were very infrequent at night. One time I was pretty drunk. This time, as I was about halfway through, my exact fear happened. Someone emerged from the hedge behind be, stepped right behind me, and put his arm around me neck, like a choke hold.

If you're worried about this, move to Europe. Most of our walls are solid bricks, concrete etc. You can still have e.g. wasps making a nest in the insulation on the outside of the wall, mice finding a way in and hiding under furniture etc., but a person-sized "object" inside the wall is often physically impossible.

Go ahead and grow your insulin then. As for the "only way", people before tampons and pads obviously survived for eons. Just to be clear, I would be all for these products to be free, all I was pointing out was that just because something is necessary, it does not make it free. And let's not forget, if something is "free", someone still has to pay for it.

I personally knew a guy who honestly believed - even after being married to a woman and having a daughter - that women don't have bowels, therefore can't pass gas or defecate. You know, because they are so delicate and ladylike. So yeah, a few guys are incredibly far from reality.

Just because it's a biological necessity, it doesn't automatically mean it will or should be free. Eating is very much a necessity, but you still pay for your food one way or another. Even insulin is not free in every country. So to me it's not that abhorrent that tampons need to be bought, it's more the fact that they are often taxed as if they are just "normal" products that you buy because you feel like it. (Then again, don't know about your country, but in mine even wheelchairs have the same tax percentage as dishwashing liquid or shoes, which is just crazy.)

When someone else, who is usually a trusted source, is not only confident but insistent, it's human nature/psychology to question if what they are saying is true. We would never have progressed as a species if we all had to discover everything for ourselves. That's why learning critical thinking is so important. But it does start with questioning. So it's completely normal, and not gendered, to question your assumptions in the face of a trusted source being adamently against them. It would only be a problem if she just took what he said at face value. She did all the right things, it was just a bad situation.

There's no reason to teach that. If someone says no, when they mean yes, and the other person respects that no and walks away - the first person learns that their no will be respected. But if someone keeps trying after being told no, they are literally making the other person unsafe. Pretty big difference.
