Some construction work deserves an award for… the worst job ever seen. But it would be difficult to choose the grand prize winner. No matter how many uneven walls or doors leading to nowhere one has seen, there always seems to be more.
Quite a few of them end up on Reddit as phenomenal examples of how not to build things. As a matter of fact, an entire subreddit, called r/ConstructionFails is dedicated to such “marvels” of ingenuity. It’s hard to say if it’s lack of skill, negligence of safety protocols, or other reasons that lead to such results. But one thing is clear—a wolf would be able to huff and puff his way through most of the structures in the pictures, whether they’re built of straw, sticks, bricks, or any other material, for that matter.

Every Angle Is Just Slightly Off
Some people develop a love-hate relationship with construction work. It’s a process that requires lots of time and effort, which might be tiresome. It also takes patience (and at least a bit of skill), whether it’s Lego blocks or home renovation.
The love part is the urge to build something nice or bring something back to life. Yet even with the best of intentions, some projects are not meant to be fulfilled. Research shows that only 39% of projects succeed in meeting all the requirements for deadlines, budgets, and required features or functions. That leaves over 60% of them either late, over budget, or boasting quality similar to what you can see in these pictures.

But you're not gaining anything. You can't use that counter space because of the stairs. You'd be better off not having the counter across the stairs and just having stairs there.

Seriously?? Does anyone want people's feet on their kitchen counters? And you know that surface is slippery as can be. Just a bad idea all around.
I’m wondering if this is an optical joke by the homeowner. I say this because when I look at the distance between the refrigerator and the sink/countertop, I get the impression that the real upstairs steps have nothing to do with the joke steps attached to the countertop. Nobody with those resources would do something that ridiculous.
I see how it could be an illusion, now; the fridge looks wedged between the wall and the sink at this angle. That being said, plenty of people have more money than sense or style.

This is so unsafe - not just unsanitary, with the risk of shedding shoe-debris, but the sink is right there; a bit of water or dish detergent splashing onto the 'stairs' section, and you slip and slide.
Slipping from splashed water on the counter could be a huge problem.

Ok, I agree walking on a counter top is not something I'd be ok with, but why do so many of you bring shoes in to this? I see people with shoes on in the house on TV, but I thought that was just a TV thing.

Why do I love this? You could have surface slippers, purely for when you’re going over the counter. 🤣

This could work - IF AND ONLY IF you put up a vertical partition separating the 'stairs' from the 'counter'. Like, from the countertop all the way up to the ceiling.
As fun as this may be, it's overall not a very good solution. If you have so little space that you have to cannibalize the stairwell don't opt for an open kitchen with eating bar, island and all. Put in a compact galley kitchen, and sacrifice the island/eating bar for additional counter space. Get a decent architect to re-design the space, and don't make the very popular mistake of thinking that a builder/carpenter can do the work of an architect, no matter how delusional they may be in their self overestimation.
Mmmmm I love cooking and eating where everyone walks! Stinky feet and floor dirt just add to the bursting flavors of every meal 😉

That might be one of the reasons why female construction workers are still viewed as something rather unusual. As a consequence, they tend to receive commentary while working in this industry.
A survey conducted in the UK in 2019 showed that over 40% of women in construction received inappropriate comments from their male colleagues. In addition to that, as much as 72% of them experienced gender discrimination in the workplace.
