And she has no problem spending the same amount or more on Israel. Considering the significant difference in attitude between the two countries this has nothing at all to do with helping our allies. What is the political benefit to republicans who fight valiantly to support Israel while at the same time fighting to let Ukraine fall to the Russians?

As we’ve covered on Bored Panda recently, some people like to believe in conspiracy theories because it gives them a sense of control in a chaotic and confusing world. The scarier and more uncertain a situation is, the more likely that people will cling to theories that, though inaccurate, help them make sense of the world.

Conspiracy theories aren’t backed by evidence. The people who believe in them discount any evidence that doesn’t support them. However, if you’re willing to consider evidence and are open to changing your mind when given solid proof, you’re less likely to fall victim to a conspiracy theory.

The world doesn’t objectively become a less complicated place because someone chooses to believe simplistic black-or-white narratives. It’s up to us to look for the nuances and embrace them, even if they’re uncomfortable or don’t match our subjective experiences or political leanings.

A good rule of thumb is to be extremely wary of claims that are overly simplistic or have very clear heroes and villains. The world is more complicated than clean and clear fights between perfect good and total evil. That’s why context, provided by reliable sources, matters so much.

Many herbivorous animals (of which turkeys are not) will supplement their diet with other animals when necessary. So you'll see ungulates - typically herbivorous - eating snakes and other small animals for protein and calcium (and other vitamins and minerals).

Most herbivores are not obligate herbivores but facultative herbivores. A good video on this subject would be casual geographic's video on the one rule of nature school never taught you.

It is basically an alternative to light rail but easier to install (according to the article). == https://archive.curbed.com/2017/11/6/16614986/zhuzhou-china-art-rail-bus

It’s a fact given by a right wing front group. It’s BS. PETA takes in dogs who are dangerously aggressive and/or suffering from advanced, deadly heartworm disease after spending their lives chained outdoors; sick and/or injured feral cats who are sometimes ravaged by the feline immunodeficiency virus, feline leukemia, or other contagious, fatal diseases; elderly animals with extremely poor quality of life, who can no longer see, walk, or eat; and animals who are suffering and unadoptable for other reasons.

Yeah, talk about the UK who had several queens and Margaret Thatcher and were among the first countries to allow women to have a full scholar education. They're not perfect, but definitely not the impersonification of patriarchy either

But… historically men have been the rulers. Women may be working towards full equality but the fact that two women were ‘in charge’ in fairly recent history doesn’t remove the fact that men were in charge for thousands of years.

You can't ignore recent history in favour of further back though. It isn't 'two women' either. Three female Prime Ministers (regardless of how short a time with Truss) and that ignores the Late Queens' Elizabeth and Victoria. We're going to have a period of Kings with Charles (with Queen Camilla), William and George (if not abolished before the latter get there) but they're not rulers.

Saw in the news yesterday that he was having trouble at his Swedish Tesla factory, for refusing to grant his workers the same rights as other Swedish workers, because, of course, he's above the law of any country. This caused a series of strikes that have gone beyond Tesla itself. As a worker put it : "If Elon Musk decides to f*ck with workers' rights in our country and gets away with it, then others will want to do it, too."

“Presenting this as fact is misleading” is wildly understating things. Presenting this as fact reveals the poster to be anencephalic, incapable of googling, and confidently incorrect to a degree we seldom see (though it’s becoming more common by the day 😰). Collections of this sort reconfirm for us that stupidity is the REAL pandemic that’ll ultimately kill us. 😞

Becoming a millionaire is incredibly easy. Simply go to a Bureau de Change and buy 1 million Iranian Rials for £18.74/$23.67. You won't be rich, but you'll be a millionaire!

One question that X users have is whether other users can be trusted to add context to other people’s posts.

“We believe regular people can valuably contribute to identifying and adding helpful context to potentially misleading information. Many of the internet’s existing collaborative sites thrive with the help of non-expert contributions—Wikipedia, for example—and, while it’s not a cure-all, research has shown the potential of incorporating crowdsourced-based approaches as part of a broader toolkit to address misleading information on the internet,” the Community Notes team explains.

According to surveys conducted by the project, people were 20 to 40% less likely to agree with potentially misleading posts if they could read a note attached to them.

There's also the dogs the really like being in the water and try diving for things all the time, because they want to. Whether the dog is enjoying it or not cannot really be determined off a single picture, unless it was a scam of the electrical impose mapping of its brain, or there was VERY obvious distress/pain or similar. This photo is a bit more neutral though.

I saw on TV once a man who trained his cat and dog to scuba dive. They had special body suits, helmets, and gear made especially for them. The interviewer asked what was the hardest thing. The man said the hardest thing was acclimating the cat to water. As Bouche would say, WET is bad.

I always washed my turtle's shell from above and below with a soft toothbrush and warm water. This is common, but of course the turtle doesn't like it. A turtle needs a clean shell because it produces vitamins from sunlight. If you don't clean the shell and dirt, moss or algae forms on the shell, the turtle can die.

I'm constantly distressed by how many people interpret upward turning mouths on animals as an indication they are happy. That's not how they communicate, dill weeds, each species has it's own ways of showing pleasure. Sometimes it's when animals are clearly actually distressed.

    the only thing I want to point out is that in the picture the reason he doesn't have thumbs is that they are hooked into his pockets, that is what the pose is, it's one most people do while standing, and that is not an AI fault {I wanted to point it out cause most know AI mess up bodies but the reason this picture was able to fool others was cause there's almost no faults such as added limps or mess up ones}

And even if he was, is it harmful to advocate for a fair tax system that'll still keep you financially healthy? 25% tax is on that years income from investments, dividends, corporate income, however tf billionaires become billionaires. For example: if you earn $1b in the year and pay 25% tax, that leaves you with 750m that can be used to enrich yourself even more. The initial 750m enrichment investment won't be taxed because it already has been, just the income derived from it. So, if you somehow conservatively earn 5% on that $750m, that leaves $37.5m in taxable income in the proper tax bracket for that income amount per year.

It's even worse than that. Wealthy people paid 42% of their income in the 1950s. Republicans want to take us back to the late 1800s, when the wealthy paid nothing at all.

This I think was in regards to war casualties as the UN Considers anything above 14 to be adult casualities because 15+ can be lawful combatants under UN Rules. And when they say in fighting x number of children died, but they fall into this UN Category, they arent supposed to be written as child casualties.

Yes. Totally. Bedbugs are "harmless" and only a teeeensy bit annoying. Much like head lice, body lice, scabies and all the other creepy crawlies that can easily spread from one vulnerable person to another because of dipshytes that could not give two clucks about anybody else: that make getting rid of them from a hospital or aged care facility a living nightmare because of absolute cretins that think "oh they are just annoying but harmless" and do not use PPE properly, or treat their own infestation, and keep reinfecting others

we wont until there is another mass death event like the Nuclear bombs in Japan. Up until 1945 we (as a society) had an increasing amount of deaths every year. Like a lot. Then after the bombs, the amount of deaths every year plummeted and stayed ridiculously low until recently. I hate to say it, but until something like the bombing in Japan happens again, the pattern will continue.

I don't know which side I'm on, I like Israel (I'm jewish) so it's part of the history that makes up my religious identity, however, I don't trust the Israeli leaders to make the right decisions in this war (regarding the past few), but I also don't want to support the Hamas, I get that many people supporting palestine do not want to support Hamas, but Hamas seems to support Palestine, going a bit too far with it. I'm stuck between them, either way, I'm kind of in danger with the rise of anti-semitism. I'm also not exactly the best at war either, I spent some time wondering why they didn't just have one of them get some land from Greenland, since it's sparsely populated and has land to spare (This was before I knew that the Palestinians had religious history/symbols in...whatever you call the space the two are occupying right now.)

This is a situation Hamas started. They instigated an attack that rained down on the people they were supposed to protect and help. Then they ran like cowards and let the Palestinians take the brunt of the Israeli response. What did they think was going to happen? Palestinians and Israelis need to put the blame directly on those responsible: Hamas.

So if you are 35 and have a pizza night, you are a fun mom, but if you do it at 19 then you are a terrible mom ?

She's feeding the kids pizza and crisps. Not ideal nutrition, but also not child abuse, unless it's part of a pattern of overfeeding and the kids are obese. Pizza night once a week is a treat, not a problem.

The food being served is not the issue here. Being 19 with two toddler-age children (if they’re 2 to 3 years old, she had them when she was around 16-ish, which is way too young) is the issue here.

Uber is a scam. They claim they are a service to hook up private citizens, but control everything including what can be charged. And at the same time try to convince governments and such that these people aren't their employees so that they don't have to pay for their benefits. This is how you take an already low paying job in a lot of areas (taxi driver) and ring out money from it to make a few people rich. Another thing I don't understand is that if you ask people these days if they would hitch a ride and they will tell you that no way they would get into a stranger's car.

I agree with you for the most part, just the last sentence is a bit...well. The thing is, if you get in an Uber/Bolt/Lyft, whatever, your drive is registered on the app or whatever and if anything happens to you, like an accident, you will be compensated/covered. Even if you, god forbid, get abducted, if you had notified just one person that you're using a taxi service, people will have somewhere to start the search for you from. But if you go into some strangers car to hitch a ride, you can very easily end up de*d. There has been too many stories about that kind of stuff. Even in Croatia, where I'm from, hitch hiking was pretty usual, especially in small, rural parts, where everyone knows everyone. And just like that, there was this girl, Antonia Bilic, that was probably ra*ed but definitelly ki**ed by a guy, last name Paravinja, that picked her up on the road when she was getting back to her house after her prom night. Her bones were found almost a year and a half later.

What's a community note? Sorry I've never been on X

In the pursuit of reliable information, digital initiatives have increasingly started to merge technology with real-world incentives, much like how innovative projects create deeper connections between users and the physical environment. For those interested in how digital tools can foster responsible habits beyond just information sharing, exploring efforts that tie online engagement to tangible sustainability outcomes offers fascinating insights.

You might find it worthwhile to see examples of how these digital-physical intersections promote long-term stewardship in everyday contexts, as detailed in unique sustainability projects.

Quote from facts on civil war cannons. "Civil War artillery could fire multiple types of ammunition. Cannonballs were solid, round objects that would ricochet off the ground and often used to target fortifications and enemy artillery. Case shot was an anti-personnel projectile, meaning it was used against soldiers. It was a hollow shell filled with scraps of metal called shrapnel. Once fired at an approaching formation, the shell could explode in mid-air, spreading the shrapnel across a large radius. As the enemy got closer, gunners would switch to canister or grapeshot. The crew would load the gun with a coffee can-sized container filled with small metal balls. Once fired, the can would disintegrate, spreading the balls outward in a fan, essentially like a giant shotgun. "

Cannons aren’t really used for killing specific people, more for destroying castles, walls, boats, etc., or wiping out a section of people in an army.

He has a point indeed, somewhere, vaguely, that artillery is not primarily anti-personal. Also things like 'grapeshot' in ship-to-ship warfare --- equivalent to bullet vs buckshot, higher casualty rate because more spread out (and a maimed sailor is indifferent from a dead one during a fight).

A general, basic strategy in the 18th and 19th centuries was disabling or (if possible, and much better) capturing operative enemy cannons... but cannons are not lethal.

The CANNON/ GUN is not the lethal part; the CANNONBALL/PROJECTILE is the lethal part . Modern artillery shells are lethal due to shrapnel (sharp, fast moving fragments) and to a lesser extent, the blast. I am speaking as a retired Artilleryman. Our weapon was not the Guns but the Projectiles.

Ugh, there are some slimy people who try to claim that it's not pedophilia, if the child "gives consent." One small detail - the legal definition of consent always goes hand-in-hand with a minimum age of consent. Being below this age invalidates any "consent".

Every once in awhile, I check the local sex offender registry to see if there are any near me (thankfully not in my neighborhood). If I have time, I search them on Facebook. If they have an account, I report them to Facebook to have their account deleted, as they are violating Facebook terms.

Ah, so age of content in US is 16? I recently talked about this with a friend and he told me it's 18. Does it depend on the state?

    Remi (He/Him)
    Community Member
2 years ago Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

It depends on the state legislation. But of course this example is called prostitution and as such it would be illegal in most of the states even if the girl was 90. where prostitution is legal I believe the age limit is 18 or more. Adding to the fact the parents are now acting as the kid's pimps so they should be charged with sexual trafficking and abuse of a minor as well.

As someone who isn't even a carpenter, I've done community projects, and then I had to hammer nails (we were building an improvised bridge for muddy/wet areas on paths), as someone who isn't that talented, I bent a nail, and somehow hit it in such a way, that it shot at high velocity towards one of my partners for the project. It missed then, so they didn't get hurt, but they made sure to supervise my work after. Don't believe me? Well someone on this site was there during the project, ask @Menacing Duck .

I remember when conservative Catholics like Bill O'Reilly would tell people who complained about some conservative policy the Pope had by essentially saying if you don't like what the Pope says, too bad, he's the head of the church. Now they're the biggest whiners, even if the church is still pretty conservative.

I've seen physics experiments where they had three or so ball bearings, one on like a 45 degree straight angle and one with a sharp drop at the beginning then levels off and one with a level beginning and sharp curve down after. About which ball would get to the end first. Video is probably an exaggeration of that and about which one makes it to the end faster (achieves more on life)

That's not how that works. First, most EV batteries have an 8-10 year expected life based on "average" driving amounts, it's the charge/discharge cycles that count. Second, that expected life is based on the charge capacity dropping to 80% of new capacity. In other words, after that 8-10 years you still have 80% of your range, so instead of 200 miles you can now only go 160 miles. Third, battery prices have come down a lot, and if you absolutely feel like you need to replace you batteries it's going to be a lot less than $20k. Could throw in the trivia that most people don't keep *any* car, EV or ICE for 8 years.

STill doesn't matter you need the money up front which you can't get cause you are paying for gas so you can go to work to make the money which you then have to spend to keep going back to work. owning any car that isn't used is a luxury for the rich, and if you buy new cars you are rich.

That's about latin people in the US where you can have neutral language. In my country neutral language is something that is only beginning to be attempted to and from trans and non-binary people mostly. And yeah most people would use latine as latinx has been mostly outdated on circles where this language is attempting to be created. Where I'm from, speaking against such terms is a form of hate speech against trans people, 99% of people who speak against neutral speech creation are transphobic or don't understand the importance of it for queer people. I'm just saying this as another country context as it's very upsetting to see the equality that queer people in some sort of power fight for here every day be discarded and put as wrong by people that don't live here with this everyday fear. Not every country is the same and latin america is huge, maybe on another one this is something horrible, but on mine is a sign of hope and inclusion that I will not see made less off.

How to reference someone of Spanish and/or South/Central American ancestry that would include 1st Nations (I do not know how original locals are referred to) peoples is something that people will probably struggle with for a while - same with gender language issues. One of the reasons that English is not gendered is b/c it is composed of many languages that were gendered but could not agree on what gender the different nouns were so they gave up. The EU is facing the same problem; many (all?) the languages are gendered but cannot agree on what gender the different nouns are causing interesting translation issues. And there is the issue of LGBQT+ community and how to include them in the language w/o being insulting.

No one said it was, but thanks for context I guess. Anyone who thinks wisdom comes out of a scorscese film is toxic as f**k

Apart from the fact that the singer's claim is totally false. There are women who make fun of the physical appearance of others, whether they are women or men.

The Barbie and Oppenheimer movies were both released this summer and were both pretty big hits and were getting a lot of 'buzz' / talk. Thus summer to remember. But the image (apparently) depicts the explosion as some sort of 'fun' event and the comment is pointing out it was anything but due to the destruction / death / radiation poisoning and more.

To give some explanation for this, the Japanese are absolutely not fond of Oppenheimer as a movie or that Barbenheimer thing, for obvious reasons. The Oppenheimer movie also didn't come to cinemas there as far as I know.

USA is the largest terrorist group ever. We bombed civilian populations to demoralize the enemy. THat is the literal definition of terrorism. Terrorism is very effective people, you just have to make sure you are the best at it.

And it didn't stop there our government and the CIA specifically have been doing similar things ever since. They've only gotten more covert and better at the propaganda.

I will say that the bombings had very long lasting side effects that weren't well understood back then. Remember, we tested these on our own people as well.

Well... yes. However, the alternative was going to be devastating to the allied forces. And, while I don't support atomic weapons, it likely lead to 1m allied deaths without use. Also it ended the Japanese empire. With hard work, their economy is thriving and the people live in a fair democracy.

It also killed exclusively civilians. Exclusively, they were the main target. Not soldiers. Say what you want, dead soldiers are awful, but still better than dead civilians. Also, dead Americans/allies aren't more valuable in any kind of way than the Japanese. This was a mass genocide.

Something that happens in all wars whether nuclear weapons are used or not, so it is really silly to point this out when we are talking about a war in which hundreds of thousands of civilians died.

Grok is a word from a book written by Robert Heinlein titled Stranger in a Strange Land. Michael Smith was born on Mars and brought to Earth. Grok was his word for I understand. Musk couldn't even come up with an original name for his product.

It would just be cringe. reaction videos (where they just sit and stare at the camera) in general are cringe. The only reaction videos that are worth it are those where professionals watch videos and give tips or information relating to their field.

Duh. Every phone with the ability to sense its own motion can do this. If your phone is moving, you're obviously awake. Your phone hasn't detected your bloody alpha waves, you know.

I use it every AM on my iPhone when I awake before my alarm. Prompts me right on the screen. I also use it on my work Galaxy which takes some setting up. I’d say the first one is intuitive since it take no action on my part and the other counterintuitive since I must set it up & reset my alarm each time I use the feature. 🤷🏼‍♂️
