A dog may be a human's best friend, but cats aren't far from it either. Worshiped since the times of ancient Egypt, these lovely furry creatures sure know ways to people's hearts. Therefore, it will probably come as no surprise that even long before the era of the internet and YouTube, cat videos were already popular. Back in 1894, inventor Thomas Edison filmed two kittens "boxing" inside a ring, and this just proves the fact that humans have long been obsessed with cute cat content way before it was cool.
However, one thing that separates dogs from cats is how they became domesticated. One recent survey of cat genes suggests that the felines might have actually domesticated us, and not the other way around. According to scientists, the earlier ancestors of domestic cats spread from southwest Asia into Europe sometime around 4400 B.C. Cats started hanging around farming communities in the Fertile Crescent about 8,000 years ago, where they formed a mutually beneficial relationship with humans.
Surprisingly, the same study reveals that wild and domestic cats showed almost no major differences in their genetics, with one of the traits telling them apart being their tabby coat markings. It is speculated that the marking began appearing in domesticated cats in the Middle Ages, and the gene for this type of coat goes back to the Ottoman Empire. It was only in the 18th century that the tabby coat markings became widespread to be fully associated with domestic cats. However, creating new cat breeds came even later—in the 19th century.
“I think that there was no need to subject cats to such a selection process since it was not necessary to change them,” Eva-Maria Geigl, an evolutionary geneticist, told National Geographic a few years ago. “They were perfect as they were.” Recently, a Facebook page called OMG Meow shared a comprehensive list of the most popular cat breeds that every respectable cat lover should know. "The Siberian is a centuries-old landrace of domestic cat in Russia and recently developed as a formal breed with standards promulgated the world over since the late 1980s. Siberians vary from medium to large in size."
They are hard to find in New York.... small community of owners... I have 2.
"The Ragdoll is a cat breed with a color paint coat and blue eyes. They are large and muscular semi-longhair cats with a soft and silky coat. Developed by American breeder Ann Baker in the 1960s, they are best known for their docile and placid temperament and affectionate nature."
I have 2 of these gorgeous cats, named Buffy and Willow... so beautiful! They are both very small stature and their fur is so insanely soft! Willow has a tail as fluffy as this one but Buffy is offwhite and sleek and her tail is very thin. When they purr, you can hear it throughout the room.
Just re-watched the entire Buff the Vampire Slayer series- made me smile when you noted your cats names are Buffy and Willow :)
Load More Replies...My Ragdoll, Mittens, was a graduation present, and she is my baby, even though she is 15 (76 in cat years). She has always been so laid back and lets me sit her up like a person or lay her down on her back, and she'll just stay like that for a bit. She is a sweet, smart, soft cat, and I am so grateful she's mine.
OMG, ... I also have 2 Ragdolls and 1 of them is named Willow also! Willow is the white-ish, "Blue Mitted" Ragdoll, and the other one is named Azriel! Azriel is a "Colorpoint" Ragdoll. I adopted them when they were just small kittens, ... they're actually sisters! They're 12 years old now but they're still as playful as when they were kittens. I love them so much!!! 06_10_2020...2ee7c4.jpg
I have two of these lovelies. Check out @mypurrdators on IG in case you'd like to see some fluffy goofballs
God I miss my raggie boys! They've been gone for years now, but I miss them every day. Such a wonderful breed!
"The Norwegian Forest cat is a breed of domestic cat originating in Northern Europe. This natural breed is adapted to a very cold climate, with a top coat of glossy, long, water-shedding hairs and a woolly undercoat for insulation."
Oh my gorgeous Grant kitty is a Norwegian Forest Cat. The nose bridge is very straight, which is the most recognizable characteristic of these grand cats. He's old now so he's looking a little ragedy around the edges but he is so loving. He will eat anything that doesn't eat him first. He is interested only in being pet (hard) and eating... period. We got him at the same time as a tuxedo shorthair named Tory (think Mythbusters build team for the names here) who died last year a month after my mom passed. 2019 was bad for me, 2020 is killing me.
You just said you have two Ragdoll cats...you seem to have many...hmmm.....

"The Bombay cat is a type of short-haired cat developed by breeding sable Burmese and black American Shorthair cats, to produce a cat of mostly Burmese type, but with a sleek, panther-like black cat. Bombay is the name given to black cats of the Asian group."
Ever since I first fell in love with my first kitty, I've always had a special place in my heart for black cats. Such sweet kitties!
I think one of our kitties that disappeared in 2014 was part Bombay. He was the best cat. Acted more like a dog and loved strangers and would wag her tail when happy. She always knew when it was time for bed. Miss her. We will always have a black cat in my house.
Btw we rescued another black kitty. He is such a sweet boy.
Load More Replies...i think my cat is a bombay. she is sleek and kinda looks like an alien
"The Bengal cat is a domesticated cat breed created from hybrids of domestic cats, the Asian leopard cat and the Egyptian Mau, which gives them their golden shimmer - the breed name comes from the taxonomic name. Bengals have a wild appearance and may show spots, rosettes, arrowhead markings, or marbling."
We have a Bengal, except the colorings are opposite (main is dark brown with symmetrical lines of lighter brown)
I have one rosetted Bengal and one arrowhead spotted Bengal. They are such amazing little companions. ❤️
Fun fact - if you have a cat allergy like I do (severe at that) you can likely own a Bengal no problem. The source of cat allergies is an enzyme known as Fel d 1 that is in cat saliva. Upwards of 98% of Bengals do not produce this enzyme. That being said, I'm still a dog person lol. Border Collies and Coonhounds are my loves.
The cat's expression is like, "What fish? I don't know of the fish you speak of hooman."
"The Russian Blue is a cat breed that comes in colors varying from a light shimmering silver to a darker, slate grey. Their short, dense coat has been the hallmark of the Russian breed for more than a century. The dense coat stands out from the body."
These cats were owned by the tsars (or should've been looking at that expression) and they never forgot.
Russian Blues are so regal. Perhaps, they owned the tsars.
Load More Replies...My Russian Blue is a total goofball. But he LOOKS regal! 20200611_1...2276f9.jpg
Hmmm. My comment is gone. I included a photo. Maybe that's why? Anyway, I just said that my Russian Blue, Inigo Montoya, is a total goofball. He LOOKS regal, but he's a nut. And a rescue (who did NOT look like a fancy purebred anything when I got him!!). ADOPT, DON'T SHOP!
Well, now it's back. Gonna leave it 'cause he's so pretty!!
Load More Replies...I have one. His name's Xavier. He's immunocompromised and almost died two weeks ago. White blood cells near zero. Doing much better now.
This was at the top of my list of favorite breeds... then I got a Korat and wow, they are gorgeous too!
These cats are also assholes- Have had a few of them and now have a mixed Blue... great cats
My cat's mother was a Russian Blue, but since her father was a black European, she was born black but with Russian Blue's green eyes ❤️ 2018-03-14...d2520b.jpg
"The Himalayan, is a breed or sub-breed of long-haired cat similar in type to the Persian, with the exception of its blue eyes and its paint coloration, which were derived from crossing the Persian with the Siamese."
Ours was a seal-point, just like the cat in the picture. And she was the sweetest, gentlest kitty I've ever known.
This isn't a Himalayan. This is a Birman. A Himalayan has solid paws, without socks.
Not necessarily. It could be a doll-faced Himalayan and a tortie seal point in colouration. Torties can have mitted paws and are frequent in litters with a Tortie mom and a Seal-point dad.

"The Maine Coon is the largest domesticated cat breed. It has a distinctive physical appearance and valuable hunting skills. It is one of the oldest natural breeds in North America, specifically native to the state of Maine, where it is the official state cat."
I have a c**n and he is the sweetest, mellowest and most affectionate cat I've ever been owned by. His name is Thelonious Paddington Monk and he's the coolest cat I know.
I have a 9 month old Maine C**n boy called Q. He's a red and white tabby and he currently weighs around 12lbs. He's very clever and I've taught him to sit, give high 5s and come straight up to a full standing position on his back legs. He is a hunter though and somehow managed to take down a fully grown pigeon and bring it through the cat flap!!!
I had a red tabby Maine C**n. He was a beautiful boy who lived way beyond the usual lifespan for the breed - had to send him to the Rainbow Bridge at 19 years old. The thing I miss most about him is the nighttime conversations he had with himself - a gentle chirp that would vary in pitch and length, for about 20 minutes after "lights out". I don't miss his snoring, though. Worse than any human! Lol. RIP, dear Jordie...
my favorite cat breed <3 if i'd be able to own a pat, it would definitely be maine c**n
They truly are amazing. This one looks just like my Big Red, which I lost a year ago. :-(
My rescue kitty years ago was part Maine c**n. She lived to be 18. She slept on my head for 18 years and still played like a kitten. I would love to have a Maine c**n kitty again.
So sweet!! I love mine!! You know, you can go to the ASPCA website and look to see where near you they have a MaineCoon to adopt. 😻😻

Derived from the Wichianmat, one of several varieties of cat native to China and brought to Thailand, the original Siamese became one of the most popular breeds in Europe and North America in the 19th century."
I love them too but it ain't to adorable at 3 in the morning.
Load More Replies..."The Turkish Angora is a breed of a domestic cat. Turkish Angoras are one of the ancient, natural breeds of cat, having originated in central Turkey, in the Ankara region. The breed has been documented as early as the 17th century and is believed to the origin of the mutations for both the color white and long hair."
My 1st cat Sugar was a Turkish Angoa. Perfect cat!!! Loved her so much still do really!!! There was nothing and I mean nothing she couldn't do! Well she couldn't hear totally deaf but still perfect!
that looks EXACTLY like my cat. yellow eyes & all. she's a rescue we've had for 12 years. she's deaf, vet said all white animals are usually deaf but usually have blue eyes. now I know why.
My baby is Turkish Angora. But he is much more fluffy than the one on the picture, and his hair is longer. If you want to see him you can look his instagram @cocoloco.cat I love him with my soul <3
They have extremely luxurious, silky, fine fur, and they have a notably finer (not frailer) bone structure compared to most other breeds of cat. My first cat was an all black, green-eyed fluffy little lovebug who had many, many traits of this breed and was likely at least 3/4 Angora (she was a rescue). Seriously, petting them feels like petting a cloud. Their fur is a little high maintenance as it can be prone to matting and they shed quite a bit.
"The Birman, also called the 'Sacred Cat of Burma,' is a domestic cat breed. The Birman is a long-haired, color-pointed cat distinguished by a silky coat, deep blue eyes and contrasting white 'gloves' or 'socks' on each paw. The breed name is derived from Birmanie, the French form of Burma."
The birman is also distinguished by having benefited from heavy selection against health issues unlike some other cat breeds. Thus they tend to live a very long time - my last passed at around 20 years old, and I currently have an elderly Birman who is 18. They are highly affectionate and want to be with people - and they chatter and talk.
That doesn't look like a Birman's face. A Birman is like a long-haired Siamese.
Tiffany is more like a long-haired Siamese. Birmans are quite different in build - cobbier, with a rounder head, smaller ears and round eyes.
Load More Replies..."The Somali cat is often described as a long-haired African cat; a product of a recessive gene in Abyssinian cats, though how the gene was introduced into the Abyssinian gene pool is unknown. It is believed that they originated from Somalia, long lost cousin of the Abyssinian cat; which has origins in Ethiopia."
They are sometimes called 'squirrel cats', because of the full tail. I always thought of them as fairy cats, because they look so slender, elegant and ethereal. The look is deceptive though: like Abys, the Somali is made from lead. They are much heavier and more solid than they look !
Be prepared to laugh a lot these fluffy lovelies love to play and have a great sense of humor. At least Floki sure does. He can do all sorts of things. He turns the air conditioning on and turns it up or down from time to time. He has a huge amount of energy but when I have a bad day he cuddles up and stays right with me all day!
"Egyptian Maus are a small- to medium-sized short-haired cat breed. They are one of the few naturally spotted breeds of domesticated cat. The spots of Mau occur on only the tips of the hairs of its coat. It is considered a rare breed."
I have an Egyptian Mau. Her name is pepper and she is very vocal. Her instagram page is "Pepper The Egyptian Mau"
My grandson has an Egyptian Mau cat. He has a lovely disposition and is very friendly.
"The British Shorthair is the pedigreed version of the traditional British domestic cat, with a distinctively stocky body, dense coat, and broad face. The most familiar color variant is the 'British Blue,' a solid grey-blue coat, copper eyes, and a medium-sized tail."
I have one of these. Very sweet natured and cuddly. But, they tend to be fat, they have unsatiable appetite.
That definatly describes my cat. She's always yowling for food...
Load More Replies...The best cats in the world! Cuddly, sweet, patient, quiet and frendly. But kinda independent, they come up when they want and not when we want them to ;) Niko says hi! 118926852_...21e876.jpg
We got Casper 9 yrs ago as a teeny tiny kitten. When we were living in apartment i thought he is as happy as he can be. He sat on the balcony, observed pedestrians and burds, or indoors he had a climbing tower. Then we moved 4 yrs ago to a house in a village. He was very shy first couple of years. Now he demands to go out every day(i don't lethim go when it is raining ) and brings me gifts. He catches mice as if he was doing it his whole life. He even brought a large rat once(like quarter or third of his size). He is soo proud of himself, sitting there with mouse decapitated and dismantled. Like 'look mum, what i can do'. We love him to bits 💕🐱
"The American Shorthair is a breed of domestic cat believed to be descended from European cats brought to North America by early settlers to protect valuable cargo from mice and rats. According to the Cat Fanciers' Association, in 2012, it was the seventh most popular pedigreed cat in the United States."
The American Shorthair is gorgeous, very friendly to humans and a big favorite. If you have this or any kind of cat don't let it eat a mouse or rat etc. caught in your home. Rodents from outside carry disease that can make your cat sick or dead. It happened to me. One of my Ocicats caught a mouse, I heard him playing with it and came into the room. I took the mouse(still alive) away from Spike and killed it when it bit me. I went and got a tetanus injection. Days later Spike was sick, he almost died from a bacterial infection he got from the mouse. Lesson learned.
"The Scottish Fold is a breed of domestic cat with a natural dominant-gene mutation that affects cartilage throughout the body, causing the ears to 'fold,' bending forward and down towards the front of the head, which gives the cat what is often described as an 'owl-like' appearance.'
Apparently they are in pain much of the time. Cats hide their pain and illnesses so they don't become prey to other animals.
Load More Replies...All these cats will have arthritis because they can't properly form cartilage in their joints (Scottish Fold osteochondrodysplasia), which is what gives them those ears. International Cat Care recommend not breeding these cats and passing this painful condition on to the next generation of cats.
I always wanted a Scottish Fold for many years. I researched breeders (knowing I'd never find one at a store or whatever) because I wanted to show my little Fold. I got my little blue Scottish Fold girl (Lilith) and they "threw in" a straight-eared boy (Niles) for free since his ears didn't fold. HE was a huge cat... and he did the "Buddah" sit that Folds are known for. But little Lilith... she had nearly every anomaly a Fold can have. Her sinuses were malformed so she didn't breathe so much as snort. Her tail was fused. She had no sternum so she didn't like to be picked up and we didn't realize that for several months. I couldn't show her, of course, and I later found out the breeder had several barns on her properly with breeding cats... not just the barn she showed us that had 4 cats being bred. So no matter how much research you do on a breeder, you will never know for sure if they are what they say they are. I will never do that again.
This 'breed' is forbidden in Germany, the Netherlands and part of Belgium. With good reason: those poor animal suffer to much.
my sister had 2 of these. constantly had to take them to the vets for one thing or the other, cost her a fortune.
This breed is purposely multiplied by a human, in nature a cat with such health problems wouldn't have survived. Humans deliberately bred cats that suffer from pain just because they're "cute". Same as pugs that usually suffer from repository problems. The animals have done nothing wrong, but humans produce animals that are bound to suffer just to satisfy themselves.
"The Singapura is one of the smallest breeds of cats, noted for its large eyes and ears, brown ticked coat, and blunt tail."
"The Abyssinian is a breed of domestic short-haired cat with a distinctive 'ticked' tabby coat, in which individual hairs are banded with different colors. In nomenclature terms, they are also known as simply Abys. The breed is named for Abyssinia where it is believed to have originated."
They also love water and swimming. They'll get into the bathtub with you.
My one hates it tho 😭 wish she did love. I need to give her a bath every one month since she goes out.
Load More Replies...mine was so sweet...demure...playful and extremely affectionate...had her for 18 years...
Cassius is a very strange but loveable Abyssinian that lives with my dad after my sister died. I don't know if this is common to this loveable breed? But he walks around with his tail straight up in the air. Literally straight up. He does follow you around and has the most lovely green eyes you ever have seen. He used to sleep with her dog, cuddled until we had to split them between two households.
"The Balinese is a long-haired breed of domestic cat with Siamese-style point coloration and sapphire-blue eyes."
"The Snowshoe is a breed of cat originating in the United States of America in the 1960s. Snowshoes were first produced in Philadelphia when a Siamese breeder's cat gave birth to three kittens with white feet."
Looks just like my cat, except mine has long fur. His mom (a stray that had been living in the neighborhood and decided my house was where she wanted to have her litter) was a long-haired calico and his father (I suspect) was a feral, blue-point Siamese-looking guy that hung out in the neighborhood one Spring and Summer. There were a few kitties that looked similar to him that year... Bruno-Sunb...23440c.jpg
The first Cat Fancier book I ever bought described the Snowshoe’s personality as ‘Bombproof’. I’m intrigued by the thought, but haven’t yet met one, as they aren’t a widely known breed in NZ.
Beautiful friendly to the owner talkative. My daughter who has a disability has one he is hers
"The Korat cat is a silver-tipped blue-grey, short-haired breed of domestic cat with a small to medium build and a low percentage of body fat. Its body is semi-cobby, and unusually heavy for its size. It is an intelligent and playful active cat that forms strong bonds with people."
I had a Korat several years ago. He was from the pound... GORGEOUS cat. Never knew he was anything other than an American shorthair until my dad found a page about Korat's and it was a whole website with nothing but pictures of my cat. The main physical thing is their ears. The kittens seem to be born with full-szed adult ears and they grow into them. He was one of the most happy and loving cats I've ever had.
"The Toyger breed of domestic cat, the result of breeding domestic shorthaired tabbies to make them resemble a 'toy tiger,' as its striped coat is reminiscent of the tiger's."
"Oi mate, 've you seen moi toigah?" When said in an Australian zoo does not mean someone is looking for their pet cat. Just a disclaimer.
"The Nebelung is a rare pedigree breed of domestic cat. Nebelungs have long bodies, wide-set green eyes, long and dense fur, and mild dispositions."
"The Burmese cat is a breed of domestic cat, originating in Thailand, believed to have its roots near the present Thai-Burma border and developed in the United States and Britain."
Their body type tends toward the muscular, and you can see the muscles through their coats. I've seen them described as "bricks wrapped in velvet".
European Burmese are healthier. That round skull shape on the North American type can lead to problems.
It's like a pug-head. Not natural and not healthy. But eh... people will buy them, anyway, because having something that looks like a toy is more important than having something that is healthy. smh.
Load More Replies...My favourite breed. I had one that was stolen years ago.. awful she was so naughty, a monkey, loved to ride in the car, adored people, but would at times attack and bite some men's shins. I will always miss her and wonder where she went almost 35 years ago.
"The European Shorthair, called the European in FIFe and WCF is a cat breed originating in Sweden. The term has also been used as an elaborate way of referring to common domestic cats of Europe, causing some confusion as the pedigree cats of this breed also should resemble the typical domestic cats of Europe."
My favorite! Perhaps I’m biased due to my own cat being one but just look at it! Playful and sweet. 😍
We call it an "Asèmmèr" Which is just a silly way of saying garbage can in Dutch. Because these are just coming house kitties and people wanting so badly to call it a breed are just trying to make fetch happen. Hehe.
I cant tell the difference between this and American shorthair
Looks like my Mosby, 100% American cat, rescued with his siblings from a parking lot. Mama kitty probably fed him from garbage cans!

"The Ragamuffin is a breed of domestic cat. It is a variant of the Ragdoll cat and was established as a separate breed in 1994. Ragamuffins are notable for their friendly personalities and thick, rabbit-like fur."
Rex, our black tabby ragamuffin, is the best cat I've ever had. Intelligent, trainable, empathetic, and soooo floofy! The way he spends time calmly watching over my autistic son and appears out of nowhere whenever he is crying... Rex is just a smart, sweet, soft, goofball and I love him!

I'd like to have a Chartreaux. They have wonderfully soft fur. They are, however, one of the rarest breeds around, so it's not easy to get hold of one.
Most fun and loving cat I've ever had. They are supposed to be silent, which mine certainly doesn't agree with. She makes it up with her compassionate nature, though.
"The Ocicat is an all-domestic breed of cat which resembles a wild cat but has no recent wild DNA in its gene pool. The breed is unusual in that it is spotted like a wild cat but has the temperament of a domestic animal. It is named for its resemblance to the ocelot."
I had two of them - the sweetest cats ever! Love humans and want to be around you all the time, very inquisitive and highly entertaining!
Uh... what kind of 'wild cat'? Because the european wild cat (felis silvestris silvestris) doesn't have spots like this.
"The Turkish Van is a semi-long-haired breed of domestic cat, which was developed in the United Kingdom from a selection of cats obtained from various cities of modern Turkey, especially South-east Turkey."
Actually, purebred Van cats are all white. They don't look like calico cats, they're famous for their ability of swimming and heterochromia.
I thought the ideal markings were pale orange ears and tail. Called swimming cats

Sadly, like pugs, the distinctive short snout is often a source of breathing problems. Thankfully some people are trying to change this so these beautiful cats don't have to suffer for stupid human "aesthetic".

"The American Wirehair is a breed of domestic cat originating in upstate New York. As of 2017, though the breed is well-known, it is ranked as the most rare of the 41 Cat Fanciers' Association breeds."
"The Manx cat is a breed of domestic cat originating on the Isle of Man, with a naturally occurring mutation that shortens the tail."
I had a manx. She was lovable and acted like a puppy chewing my shoes . she loved belly rubs. Sadly lost her to cancer 2 years ago . 😭 be warn if a manx lays next to you, you can smell a stinky bum 😆
Manx syndrome is a spinal abnormality that can be extremely serious. They are adorable, but should not be bred on purpose. If a kitten inherits a Manx gene from both parents it will probably not survive to birth. https://icatcare.org/advice/manx-syndrome-and-spina-bifida/#:~:text=Different%20tail%20lengths%20can%20therefore,tail%20(up%20to%20about%203cm)

"The American Curl is a breed of a cat characterized by its unusual ears, which curl back from the face toward the center of the back of the skull. An American Curl's ears should be handled carefully because rough handling may damage the cartilage in the ear."
"The Japanese Bobtail is a breed of domestic cat with an unusual bobtail more closely resembling the tail of a rabbit than of other cats. The variety is native to Japan and Southeast Asia."
I had one that mated with a regular cat and all five of her kittens had unusual tails. The most unusual one had a curly tail just like a spring or a pig. Her name was piglet.
Cats need TAILS! Dogs, too, but cats do so even more. Man... I'd like to breed out some natural things out of those 'breeders'. Maybe get rid of the ears? Eyelids? How about breeding them hairless? Shorter legs?
"A Cornish Rex is a breed of domestic cat. The Cornish Rex has no hair except for down. Most breeds of cat have three different types of hair in their coats; the outer fur or 'guard hairs', a middle layer called the 'awn hair,' and the down hair or undercoat, which is very fine and about 1 cm long."
Just when I thought the Sphinx was the only repulsive-looking cat in existence (not saying anything about them having ideal tempers and/or being hypo-allergenic), they breed something worse. Even a mom would struggle to like a baby like this.
"The Lykoi is a natural mutation from a domestic shorthair that looks like the popular idea of a werewolf. The mutation has occurred in domestic cats over the last 20 years. DNA testing has been done by UC Davis to confirm that the cats do not carry the Sphynx/Devon gene. The breed was developed in Vonore, Tennessee."
What? no! experiment: complete success. Look at those eyesies. Look at those feetsies. I would surely like to poke that fur. You cannot fail with cats, because they are automatically wonderful.
Load More Replies...Wow. You can have something looking like that without paying a dime. Just pick up one of those mangy street-cats! Though be aware - if you don't carefully make sure it stays mangy, you might end up with a cat that has hair! (do I have to say it was sarcasm?)
"The Sphynx cat is a breed of cat known for its lack of coat. Hairlessness in cats is a naturally occurring genetic mutation; however, the Sphynx cat, as a breed, was developed through selective breeding, starting in the 1960s."
Greasy skin, yeast infections, susceptible to cold and sunburn: https://icatcare.org/advice/sphynx/
You sometimes see tham promoted as an 'easy care' cat breed, as they don't need brushing and won't produce furballs. But as you say, they are not actually easy to look after, as the skin needs a lot of attention.
Load More Replies...Random fact: since they have no fur, they love to cuddle with humans and sometimes even are willing to wear clothes!
"The Peterbald is a cat breed of Russian origin. It was created in St. Petersburg in 1994 from an experimental breeding by Olga S. Mironova. They resemble Oriental Shorthairs with a hair-losing gene. The breed was accepted for Championship class competition in 2009."
I would be, too, if I saw all the other cats having whiskers and fur...
Load More Replies..."The Savannah is a hybrid cat breed. It is a cross between a serval and a domestic cat."
Is it really dangerous to have? Ive never seen or heard of this breed before...it looks scarey! But very Beautiful!
Load More Replies...A serval is a wild cat. It is the smallest of the African cats. A Savannah cat is bred from a Serval and a domestic cat. I believe it is the Egyptian Mau, or similar. They're very expensive and are bred in tiered groups, F1, F2, F3, and so on. The designation depends on the relationship and degrees of separation from the originating parents closest to the Serval. They can run as high as $75,000.00. I think they are beautiful, and I did my research. In the end I decided upon the Burmese breed. They are wonderful cats!
Well Burmese are cats, actually. These are not.
Load More Replies..."The Exotic Shorthair is a breed of cat developed as short-haired version of the Persian. The Exotic is similar to the Persian in many ways, including temperament and conformation, a flat nose and face with the exceptions of the short dense coat."
Breeds like these need to come to an end--the flat snout is horrible for a cat's health and the fact people deliberately breed it because it "looks cute" is awful. Persians and other cat breeds that have problems because they are bred to look a certain way (like Munchkins) deserve to be treated with so much more dignity and respect instead of being eschewed for easy money.
Yep. The cat in this picture would have great difficulty breathing normally.
Load More Replies...I rescued one of these. He is now 16 years old, and is the most loving of cats.
"The Munchkin cat or Sausage cat is a newer breed of cat characterized by its very short legs, which are caused by a natural genetic mutation. The Munchkin is considered to be the original breed of dwarf cat."
Stop promoting and breeding these. These cats cannot move like other cats and they are in a lot of pain!
The same is true of Manx. People do horrible things just to have curiosities.
Load More Replies...It would be better not to use 'cute and appealling' names like Munchkin and Sausage cat. They should be referred to bluntly as Dwarf cats, rather than being turned into cartoon pets. Let's not collaborate in the marketing of something live, that's selling point is physical abnormality.
"The Minskin is a breed of cat derived from crossing the Munchkin with the Sphynx. Since it is a cross with the same breeds, it is sometimes confused with a Bambino cat."
I agree with many of the commentaries here. It is extremely selfish to breed animals to a life of pain, and call it cute. It is actually mean. Poor kitties.
Dear God! Why torture these animals? I hope we don't get to the point where we "create" people of mixture between dwarfs and people with downs syndrome, just because they are all cute and full of love. Accepting one the way it came to life is one thing, but creating a life full of struggles just for fun is cruel.
Sorry, this is such a politically incorrect statement but it is dark-hilarious and sooooo true! Thank you for making it - I laughed while I cried a little bit.
Load More Replies...This is just disgusting. The breeders should be ... i don't even know a suitable punishment.
10/10 would pet all, but please stop breeding deformaties into cats. Short munchkin legs, folded ears, nose so short its between the eyes etc are big NO's!
Kit Cassidy, deformed breed are purposely multiplied by humans. of course there are mutation at times but why multiply them deliberately when the ones suffering are the animals. If you want nature to take the wheel, let me tell you, in nature, deformed animals wouldn't have survived to reproduce. Even if you want a pure bred animals, there are plenty of healthy breeds that wouldn't have health problems. And you can't compare reproduction between animals and humans. You should know people with health issues or disability need a lot of consideration and advice to decide whether they should reproduce, but these breeds, they are forced to reproduce, by humans.
Load More Replies...ADOPT DON'T SHOP!!! Sorry...I just can't help myself. I get that bred cats are adorable but whenever you're considering a choice to buy one (and not for very specific reasons like "I have an autistic child ergo I'll go for a Maine c**n" or if you're allergic, I understand those), think about all those adorable cats in shelters that need a home and are already born. And whenever you can, choose that cat, please. Please.
AGREED! I have one of these, but all 8 of mine are rescues! Alleycats are just as loving and lovely if you're not just looking for a fashion accessory. (All of my human children are mutts as well.) Also, if you're buying forcibly inbred (purebred) animals, you can factor in higher vet bills for deformities and susceptibility to diseases.
Load More Replies...My cat and I are kinda miffed you left out the beautiful and exotic alley cat. Cats like nature intended.
I have two wonderful cats and they are very different in every way. One a rescue and the other my friend gave to me. Cats rule!
