We’ve gathered some of the worst examples of folks being deeply ignorant about other counties and still posting their thoughts online. From lacking even the simplest idea of geography to having nonsensical ideas about other places, some people should perhaps open up a map at least once.

We also got in touch with travel writer and adventure Vicky from vickyflipfloptravels.com and she was kind enough to answer some of our questions about travel as a way to expand your mind. So get comfortable as you scroll through, upvote the worst examples and be sure to share your own experiences in the comments below.

I (a Canadian) was just in the States and they still take your credit card from your table at the restaurant!! We've had the chip and tap here for a long time, and there's machines that they bring right to the table to make payments. Americans are so far behind on payment technology. We also don't have the penny in Canada either, and every time I'm in the USA I remember how much the penny sucks.

Bored Panda got in touch with travel writer and adventure Vicky from vickyflipfloptravels.com to learn more about travel, a fantastic way to avoid making a fool of yourself online, and she was kind enough to share some of her thoughts. First and foremost, we wanted to know what she would have told her younger self, if she could.

“Get yourself to South America! Pick somewhere to stay for a few months and settle in a bit to explore deeper,” she shared. Interestingly, she may have picked up on the region's growing popularity with digital nomads, who are flocking to the continent.

Of course, traveling is easier said than done, with any degree of comfort costing money. So we wanted to know her opinion on paying for convenience versus trying to make your money go as far as possible. “Whatever works for you! I spent years backpacking on a shoestring, staying in hostels, and always choosing the cheapest option.”

“Now that I'm a bit older I'm happy to pay for comfort and will splash out on experiences rather than just watching others do them, or looking for the cheap things to do in a destination. Both are perfectly valid ways to travel!” she shared with Bored Panda. The important thing is to make sure you don’t end up wasting your time on unearned hype, expensive or not.

characterizing LANGUAGES as "white" or "non-white" is the real issue here. Also, educating yourself about other languages and cultures is inclusive and shows maturity, it is not cultural appropriation. Learning a language is a way to acknowledge and respect a culture, which is the absolute opposite of cultural appropriation. It is not "intruding on the lives" of people from other cultures. It is in fact a way to connect with them, respect, and include them. By suggesting that people can only learn languages that have historically been spoken by a group of people other than their own is a way to separate races, basically saying that all cultures should be separate. It sounds like this guy is the racist one. (And obviously Spain is a European country too)

Cultural appreciation is not the same as appropriation. Learning a new language is not. It seems really messed up to not want to be able to communicate globally.

I can see someone obviously failed History class when they were teaching how Spain conquered the Aztecs and thus had the native population speaking Spanish...a European language. Maybe someone needs to send her a YouTube video on linguistics and early human migration patterns. Lol She'd have a cow if she ever learned that there were Roman's in the U.K once lol Thank you Lord, for denying me the opportunity to be a teacher as I once wanted to be. I'd be in prison by now.

As a white person how has traveled to many countries, let me say I am grateful for all of the "not white" people who speak at least some English. I did my best not to slaughter tourist phrases in your local tongue but many of you being bilingual (or more) helped a lot. So i am not offended that you tried to appropriate my culture by speaking English. LOL Also I miss the days when people didn't get so easily butthurt over stupid stuff.

Learning a second language should be unfun and boring I guess? Also, learning a second language is a graduation requirement for most US high schools and Spanish is an incredibly useful language in the US (and abroad).

Is this a real thing - that a white American should not speak Spanish to a Mexican person if that person knows Spanish? Is this actually appropriation? I would think it was considerate if you need to commicate with a Spanish speaking central or South America citizen who can’t communicate well on english, to use Spanish if you know enough. Is that truly not ok to do? And seen as cultural appropriation. I thought it was not expecting them to know your language and using theirs to show you are trying.

This racist is using cultural appropriation as a cudgel. It's not cultural appropriation to be multi lingual. It's like when the bigots were trying to say not accepting their bigotry was in itself bigotry, trying to minimize their shittiness with "both sides" bs

Race is pseudoscience anyway, as it makes just as much sense as grouping people by their hair or eye color. The names of the labels are minor issues compared to the existence of the whole idea.

Oh I love appropriating the culture of minorities. Born and bred Northern Irish. Only spoke English (well Ulster Scots version!), learnt little Irish history at school, learned to embrace all Irish and British history and cultures. Fell for a French femme fatale, and had to almost start from scratch my crappy French, almost mastered the local northern Ch'ti dialect, after eight years. Moved to Bretagne four and a half years ago, and having fun with Gaelic form of Breton and Gallo. Widen your your horizons. Life more fun, even with a few faux pas mixing languages, and "minority" cultures. Most of this attitude is from people don't even know their own!!!
