Nicholas. Helping people does make life better for people. That's a fact. You're arguing against your own self interest and don't even realize it. There's really nothing else to say to someone who is that blind.

Most of the working people in the U.S. are barely making enough to make ends meet. We live paycheck to paycheck and have to decide which bills can be put off until the next month. We are not being selfish for not wanting to pay for people who don't work. We are just tired of working our butts off and not being able to make ends meet ,while our taxes are so high because we are paying a lot for people who have never worked. They get a nice house, food, electricity, medical, cell phones, internet and we even give them computers now!! Do you know how many people in this country who work 40+ hours a week, can't afford internet or a computer-- some even have to go without cell phone service for a week or 2 every now and then. The 1% that have more money then they could ever spend, don't pay any taxes and are currently buying all of the real estate here so they can rent it out raising the cost of rent or owning a home beyond most of the working classes reach.So I wouldn't count on their help.

It's also 1 thing to help people get on their feet again but that should last 6 months to a year at the most. People who work, do not get a raise when they have another child, so why should we pay any extra for people on welfare when they have another child?? And we do! Why shouldn't they have to tighten their belts and make do with what they had? Unless they are paralyzed, after 6 months, in order to keep getting a check they should have to work for it. The government can have them work in day care centers taking care of the people who have to work children, so they don't have to use 1/2 their paycheck on child care. I'm sure there's back of the house jobs at hospitals, schools and other institutions.If nothing else, Medicare should be free with no co-pays to reward us for working our whole lives. Deduct the Medicaid premiums from the S.S.I. checks instead.Of course, Stephanie if you can get the 1% to pay for all that free stuff, that would be ok but leave the worker's wages out of it

Your complete ignorance of reality and economics shows you are a lefty. The fact that you have been brainwashed to believe that giving people what they should have to work for by STEALING what others have worked for shows your lack of understanding and compassion for hard working people. Those who sacrificed to make a living for their families through hard work and dedication should be able to enjoy their success. It is a FACT that the reason the VAST MAJORITY of people that live in poverty is POOR CHOICES, e.g. : Failure to finish high school, using drugs, having children outside of marriage and criminal activities. Those are BAD CHOICES, and rewarding people for them is known as "ENABLING" which only leads to MORE bad choices! What ACTUALLY HELPS people is ACCOUNTABILITY where they feel CONSEQUENCES and are therefore MOTIVATED to becomes PRODUCTIVE members of society with self-respect rather than the goal of socialism which CREATES DEPENDENT PARASITES destroying society.

Does socialism actually do that? 2. Are there other approaches that produce better outcomes and 3. What are the relative consequences for each? My questions for all you leftists are: 1) Where is all this "free" money going to come from, since there are a finite number of producers to pay the taxes to feed your PARASITES? 2) What is the motivation to keep producing when it is going to be confiscated to give to the PARASITES? 3) What happens to the parasites when the "free" money dries up because the producers have nothing left because the entire economy is destroyed,  e.g. the former USSR where people stood in line for MANY HOURS for necessities such as bread and clothes and MANY WENT AWAY WITHOUT ANYTHING because THE GOVERNMENT CONTROLLED ALL PRODUCTION AND GOODS?

You do realize all the stuff we need to live as humans is already here on earth? We can't eat money, money is not what we need. It's the natural resources we all need and there is plenty of what we need. Money is being used to control have and have nots. Even though there is plenty of what we all need to live. We maintain and create everything you see on this planet. If you already have everything you need money doesn't change that fact. Money is something we also created from materials on the planet. We all can live and have our basic needs met. People are only being denied the stuff they need because of selfish people wanting to control it all. Using money as away to do it. All the food, water, wood, and resources here was meant for us all to take care of ourselves. No one should be denied anything. It's inhumane and wrong. If you're getting everything you need why would you be against everyone else living like that too? Also, those running things have everything they need and much more. They live century after century benefiting from all the these resources. Yet they say we can't have the same things? Lying to us telling us there isn't enough food for us, there isn't enough medicine for us, there isn't enough, housing for us, there isn't enough of anything for us. Or there isn't enough money for us to benefit too. It's lies all lies! The resources are here and there is enough. They lie and use money as a tool to say there isn't enough for some. When it isn't even the money that sustains us all, it's the resources that do. I don't understand how people can't see this. It's true and it's messed up how we are all being fooled. Money doesn't make the world go round, we do! We the people are what matters. We are what's valuable. Not the money.

Yes and the people do it all. Why would you not want to live in a world where you maintain everything and everyone benefits from it all equally? That's what generosity, living, thriving, creating, building, and humanity is supposed to be about. What I'm saying is not hard for good people to understand. It's only hard to comprehend for people that don't want better, that don't want everyone to thrive, that are very selfish, that are stuck in their ways. Life doesn't have to be hard and people don't have to suffer and struggle. It's only like that because of people who don't care and don't want everyone to live and thrive and enjoy our existence.

Ok, ❄. Here's REALITY: "Everything we need" doesn't exist in ready to consume condition ON ITS OWN. The food you need REQUIRES land to grow it, equipment to process it, someone to work that equipment, vehicles to transport it, people and equipment to stock the shelves of businesses that display and sell it along with business people/corporations to PAY FOR THE GOODS TO GET THEM TO THE CONSUMER. No one is going to risk the outlay of $$$ or work for free. It is the acme of economic IGNORANCE to believe/expect that! INCONVENIENT FACT: If people were not compensated for their effort and business risk taking THERE WOULD BE NO GOODS AND SERVICES AND THE ECONOMY WOULD SHUT DOWN, LEAVING THE PARASITES TO FEND FOR THEMSELVES! IT IS ONLY THE CHARITY OF THE WORKING CLASS PROVIDING FROM THEIR SUPLUS THAT ALLOWS THE PARASITE CLASS TO SURVIVE! Take away economic gain from workers and investors, and you have communism, where everyone but the political elite end up starving. EVERY. TIME.

Klaatu, I have read a number of your comments on this subject and agree with you 100%. I also agree that Congress is corrupted by money, more so since Citizens United but nothing new. As a former HR Specialist, I can tell you that their medical and retirement plans are quite similar to the average federal employee. They now must use the same health care exchanges created by the Affordable Care Act. Union health and retirement plans back in the 1970s were much better. We think of these current federal plans as good because Republicans have convinced people that unions are bad and rolled back all those benefits. Politicians (all parties) would for for zero salary and no retirement or health benefits because just as you say, they are making money in multiple other ways including insider trading. As an example a 1 term senator (6 yrs) would be eligible for $16,000 a year pension starting at age 62. Salary would have been $174,000 while working.
