40 Things People Said That Indicated They Don’t Realize How The World Really Works, As Shared In This Online Community
People have the best knowledge of what they have experienced and to be more aware of what is going on outside their life’s bubble, they have to interact with people who are different from them and to actively search for that information.
Otherwise, they might make themselves oblivious and out of touch with reality, which could make them look stupid in front of others. Ignorance is not bad in itself as it is impossible to know everything, but sometimes it is hard to believe how certain knowledge has not reached a person.
Not realizing that there are people who can’t afford a house or having gaps in general education are some things Redditors considered to be common knowledge that doesn’t belong just to a single society group, but they were wrong and told some funny and frustrating stories answering the question “What did somebody say that made you think: ‘This person is out of touch with reality?’”

I’m a nanny and I’ve worked for some rich clients. Old money. These people know nothing about reality.
The best one I heard was this family I was working 12 hour days for. Good pay, terrible schedule. At one point I was bouncing their baby on my knee and the Mom goes “Being a mom isn’t that hard. I don’t know why other women complain about it so much”.
While her nanny is literally caring for the baby.
Pretty much any time I see someone yelling at a Starbucks or other service employee. They come into a crowded shop, wave their big $5 bill around like a high roller, then yell at a 16 year old for making their coffee incorrectly. Lame. If you find yourself to be one of the people yelling at service workers, fix your own problems before telling other people what to do.
Why should they? That kind of attitude has always worked, so why change now? When I became a manager in retail at a theme park, I was finally able to get revenge on those assholes. And I will take up for any service worker getting abused.
There are a lot of older fugly apartment buildings near the house I grew up in.
My friend at the time that lived a very privileged lifestyle, $200-300+ weekly weekend dinners with the family, timeshares over the place, skiing and snowboarding trips, etc. She was like why would anyone want to live in these apartments? I would never
I was like, people that live there don't have a choice...
Showed a parent the security footage of her 8th grader hitting a teacher. She claimed the footage had been edited. Sigh…..
My sister taught 6th grade English. More than one parent was required to sit in on their kid's classes. The kids still acted up because their parents refused to hold them accountable. The most common comment from the parents, and I use that word lightly, "We can't control him/her." When it came to the report cards, and the kids failed, they would storm in yelling that it just had to be the teacher's fault. Sure it is. No homework was turned in, every test failed. Yep, it's definitely the teacher's fault.

once got in an argument with a girl that people would rather die of starvation than eat something that's carcinogenic. I asked if she was seriously saying people would choose to starve to death over the course of a month than risk potentially developing cancer in a few years and she said yes.
I asked if she'd ever gone an entire day without eating before or knew what that felt like. she hadn't.

Went to a super rich girls house, she had had a baby 2 months prior, she had nannies coming in and out maids and a literal house manager plus PAs etc. and she was bragging about how she was back at work so soon and how she doesn’t know how people can stand doing ‘nothing’ for so long.
And when the baby says "mama" for the first time, it's for the nanny.
"I'm entitled to my opinion" when presented with facts showing they were wrong.
This bothers me sooooooo much. Opinions are not facts. Facts are not opinions. You are entitled to the opinion that Nickelback is a good band. You are even entitled to the opinion that certain Presidents/Prime Ministers are good/bad at their jobs because you can narrow your opinion down to very slim frames of reference (BoJo *was* the right guy to get Brexit done (unfortunately)). But you do NOT get to opine on whether the Earth is flat or whether vaccines work effectively.
"Nobody has ever died from rationing their insulin, nobody" - My FIL. That was an odd take of his, I'm still kinda puzzled over it. People have died doing almost anything. He didn't think they died from rationing something that costs hundreds of dollars per week though.
Sophomore year of high school, in my biology class, this one girl got into a conversation about what causes the winter season with the teacher.
And she goes, “winter happens because the sun turns cold, right?”
Honestly, I’m still having trouble processing that one, and it’s been eight years.

My aunt was bragging that her knee surgery cost her zero dollars because of Medicare. I said “yeah, that kind of socialized medicine is nice”. She the threatened to “take me out back and beat my a**” for saying that.
Your aunt is mentally weak, sorry. She's like the Spongebob of brainpower.
As an American myself, I feel strongly that this is what is wrong with the American people. Corporation and special interests own the politicians and they have successfully brain washed the populace into not only voting against their best interests but also rabidly defending the people and policies that are oppressing them. It is so normalised within our culture though that people don't really realize how dystopian this is.
Yusuf, yes, yes, yes! It's easier to fool a man than to convince a man he has been fooled. You're so right about all of it. The brainwashing and manipulation is so bad that people will fight to the death to let not only our government but big corporations take advantage of them. They refuse to see what's really going on. It's so enraging to see it and know there is nothing we can do about it.
Load More Replies...My father once lamented to me how upset he was at having to be on Medicare and how he wished it were all privatized. I had to point out to him that he was a 70+ year old with a heart condition, and if it weren't for Medicare literally no fiscally responsibile health insurance company would cover him.
Thank you! As a 67 yo who has worked all my life since age 12, I am able to retire and have health insurance. I worked for a major hospital system that didn't give their retirees health care. If there was no Medicare most would have to retire without health insurance of any kind.
Load More Replies...That absolutely is socialized medicine. I paid social security taxes for 30 years to the government, and all those years I was too young to access Social Security or Medicare. I was helping shore up the SS trust for those already on it. Medicare premiums are deducted monthly from your SS. How do I know? Now I am reaping the benefits of my own contributions. I’m only 73, have had one knee replacement which cost zero dollars because I also have a supplement. I take a few medicines blood pressure etc but plan to live as long as I contributed into the system.
Unfortunately, politicians are working to take Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security away because they're scared us mean old, greedy, poor people might use it to benefit ourselves. If Medicaid gets stripped I'm scared of how me and my boyfriend with Type I Diabetes are gonna afford his insulin.
Load More Replies...You pay into Medicare all of your working life. It's medicaid that you get with a low income.
How does socialized medicine differ from universal coverage and single-payer health care? Socialized medicine is often conflated with single-payer health care and universal health care, but those are different concepts. Although universal coverage and single-payer health care are common around the world, truly socialized medicine for a country’s entire population is actually quite rare. The British National Health Service is an example, as the UK funds health care with tax revenue and also employs the country’s medical providers (people can opt-out of the NHS and obtain medical care privately, but this is rare). https://www.healthinsurance.org/glossary/socialized-medicine/

Love it. The people voting against their own interests is the most evident sign of intellectual decline in America I have ever seen. Also.... everyone thinks Medicare covers EVERYTHING, though. WRONG. It also covers the bare minimum. Case in point: if someone has severe cataracts and needs them removed, Medicare ONLY covers the most dangerous, antiquated, ineffective, and TRULY PAINFUL method: surgical removal by scalpel. Laser removal is MUCH less prone to mistakes, healing issues, etc. But Medicare won't cover it. And most opthalmological surgeons these days do mostly laser procedures, so many are rusty or much less experienced on the scalpel removal level. So Medicare literally puts many thousands of eyes at risk every year. It's NOT the brass ring everyone thinks it is.
And won't pay for ANY if our medications! We have to buy a separate policy for that. As a 'senior' who like many other 'seniors' I need several medications to just keep me alive. If I don't buy that prescription policy I would not be able to pay for that medication.
Load More Replies...Seriously?? I'm 72 & "pay" over $2500/yr for "free" care. Paid into "the system" my while life. Sociized medicine? You need to go live where they have it. Wait tines for a specialist are years long. Waiting in ER can be days. Don't be so naive.
People here in the US have been brainwashed by Big Corporations, and Our Government, into believing any kind of social assistance, is Socialism. But our tax dollars pays for these programs. Our tax dollars could pay for much more. But our Representatives are getting rich off of our tax dollars. Not to mention paying for the military personall, and based around the world. I'd rather our tax dollars go to,We the people first, the the military, the government officials, well they're gonna have to take what their worth. Not one penny more.
Where do the tax dollars come from? And why do we spend so much on shoring up the politicians base like BILLIONS of dollars to the Postal service and teachers unions etc, which is ONLY to BUY VOTES for the democrat party instead of going towards programs to help people back to work.(Hint- a person with a job doesn't need a handout, i.e. a politician, therefore demonrats don't want employment assistance programs because it decreases their base! Why do you think the economy tanks every time the demonrats are in charge?)

Load More Replies...Obviously a lot of you are confusing Medicare and Medicaid. Taxpayers pay for Medicare and Social Security their whole lives( it used to just be called Social Security tax). They are paying for their own retirement. When they do finally get to reap the benefits of that, they find they still have to pay $170/ month out of their small Social Security checks for Medicare premiums and that doesn't include prescriptions. That is an additional premium. There are also co-pays large enough with Medicare that most people have to pay for supplemental insurance to help pay for the co-pays!! This is what you get for working and paying taxes your whole life. Medicaid is for people who don't work, many have never worked. There is no monthly premium for Medicaid and there are no co-pays for anything!!! As usual, the U.S. awards certain people for not working because not everyone, regardless of your income, will qualify for Medicaid. As usual the taxpayers in America get screwed!!
You explained Medicare much better than I ever could! I'm copying your explanation to use the next time some ignorant person mouths off about how people on Medicare have a free ride. I had better insurance which cost a LOT less while I was working. Of course I was making payments to Medicare as well. Now, it costs so much for my 'free' healthcare that I have to work a part time job to pay for it - for the rest of my life probably! And you are so right- people get Medicare and Medicaid confused. Medicare you work for all your life and then you pay for it when you turn 65. Medicaid is paid for by taxpayers and costs $0000 to those who collect and can be collected without working . memmmmhow all this is fair?
Load More Replies...*Only* Americans call it 'socialised health care'. Just as no one talks about 'socialised policing' or a 'socialised road system' no one anywhere else uses the phrase because it's just the best way to get something done.
AMERICANS don't call it "socialized health care". REPUBLICANS, Libertarians, and RIGHT-wing Independents do. By attaching "socialism" to anything, Republican politicians know they can instantly get their constituents to be adverse to ANYTHING that is most likely going to be much more beneficial to tax payers than what little they already have. In the 50s and 60s, they used the word "communism" instead, because shït don't change.
Load More Replies...To be fair she paid into medicare (like social security) as taxes over many years as a form of insurance premiums over your working life.
Just like other countries' healthcare comes out of taxes to pay for it. You're correct, of course, but I can't tell if you're saying it to try to agree or disagree with the premise.
Load More Replies...I paid into Medicare for many years. So my knee surgery DID cost me a lot.
Yes and you're still paying fir it with your $170 a month (that is going to go up FOURTEEN PER CENT) as well as all your copays and deductibles you have to pay first before Medicare pays anything AND the cost of a supplemental insurance that you need just to cover all that Medicare decides not to cover. However, I'm convinced it is better to pay out all this money and actually get to see a doctor when you need one and get medical care right away rather than being put on some ridiculously long waiting list!
Load More Replies...Don't know what country your Aunt got her Medicare in....but my heart surgery , covered under my Medicare, cost a lot more than nothing! I pay $170 a month for my coverage, copays for lab work diagnostic tests, medication and office calls. AND not everything is covered. All of that comes out of the approximately $950 a month Social Security retirement check. However, Medicare isn't socialized medicine and it def isn't free!
Medicare is not free. There are premiums to pay every month.
And a supplemental insurance that you have to pay for every month and copays and deductibles you have to meet before Medicare will start paying - meaning there is a set amount (and it's crazy high) you are responsible for paying first, and this restarts every year.
Load More Replies...I don't believe she understands how Medicare works. You pay into it all your working lives. Then you pay for Medicare when you start getting it. Medicare isn't a free ride.
No I paid for Medicare and still do...I'm also a 100% Disabled war veteran...but medicaid is free and helps the poor so auntie ain't weak you ARE
Your Aunt paid for Medicare all her years of working. Hardly free and not even close to the best insurance!
FIRST OF ALL... I don't know how she got 100% coverage from Medicare. MEDICARE ONLY PAYS 80% AND YOU PAY A MONTHLY PREMIUM FOR THIS. If she had an extra advantage plan that's an additional monthly premium, so not free. MEDICARE IS WHEN YOU HAVE OVER A CERTAIN NUMBER OF WORK CREDITS OVER THE YEARS. ☆MEDICAID☆ is what is free & paid by the state. THAT IS FOR PEOPLE WHO DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH WORK CREDITS. So, because I busted my butt to try to be a contribution to society my whole life, I get to now pay for my coverage, pay 20% out of pocket and I do not have dental or vision even with my advantage plan.
Well what you should have said was, " Yeah it costs nothing for you, but plenty for the taxpayers." Soory, only people who have jobs and own homes and pay taxes will get that.
I don't think she should have the "socialized medicine" if she's not gonna appreciate how she gets it
You do realize that we pay for our own Medicare right ? It's like regular health care insurance you have to pay for monthly , medicaid is the one the government gives you , there's nothing socialist about medicare , we pay for that with our own money every month , it's pretty clear you don't know what you're talking about 🤔
WOW Hoe nice for her. I wonder how that works. I have Medicare & my hip replacement cost me $2800 out of pocket, which I think is pretty great. I never had Health insurance until getting this & it has been a blessing for sure. It's about $200 a month (including the separate pharmacy plan) & I couldn't be more grateful.
Since when is getting what you paid for during all your working life socialism? No, it's more like putting something on layaway at the store. One day, you walk in and get your stuff, and some idiot who didn't see you make the payments calls you a thief or a socialist! Go apologize to your aunt, kiddo. And ask your dad to beat your butt, so she doesn't have to do it!
Only in Murrica is health care coverage for all viewed as a Communist plot to take over.
Your aunt must not pay her own bills. Medicare costs and is taken out of Social Security checks, then you have to pay deductible plus a % of what is not allowed. Let us not forget the supplement insurance to help pay what is not allowed. The only people who get off scot-free are people who are poverty level.
Medicare is a health insurance plan that persons over 65 pay a premium for, and it is administered through the Social Security system, which collected a tax on every dollar I earned from the time I was 16 years old. I paid into this system my whole working life, as does anyone LEGALLY employed. When one reaches retirement age, you taxes paid entitled the retiree to a monthly income and health insurance that provides 80% coverage for limited Healthcare, and the retiree pays a monthly premium of about $150. Most retirees buy a secondary policy that cost about $800-1000 a month premium. So you are the stupid one for calling this 'socialized medicine', and I would beat your ass for being ignorant, condescending and disrespectful. She earned her health care.
It should be that for "all" people, no matter what "age" you are; America is always talking about it's #1, those are its bragging rights to look good in the eyes of the world; people who live here know that's a fallacy, no where near the "truth" just like Columbus was a discoverer...lies, all lies!
Universal Healthcare is not possible in the U.S. in it's current state. Nor is free schooling, for that matter.
Load More Replies...While our health care is atrocious, they didn't address the cost fix in ACA. Your Aunt or someone paid into that promise of health care out of every paycheck.
sorry to shock you, but we working people have paid for Medicare out of our paycheck our WHOLE LIFE!
Its not socialized medicine, most everyone pays into social security and medicare!! That is our money.
"Its not socialized medicine, most ________ pays into ______ security and medicare!! That is ___ money." Please fill in the blanks.
Load More Replies...She paid for Medicare for 40 years before getting any benefit. And she pays a monthly premium and probably another premium for a supplement. Add it all up. She paid for her knee upfront. Socialized medicine doesn't charge 40 years before you get to use it. Medicaid is another story taxpayers foot the bill. This is socialized medicine.
Medicare is a government-mandated program funded by payroll taxes collected from employees and employers. But if it were a private insurance plan, it would be declared insolvent due to the inadequacy of its reserves, thanks to the irresponsible management by Uncle Sam.
Social Security and Medicare are programs that you PAY into, then you collect the benefits. Also in the case of Medicare you continue to pay for the various Parts, and probably also pay a private vendor as well. It's not an entitlement program, although some of it is for people who have become disabled. It was never meant to be that, but, it should obvious disabled people need help.
I don't blame her! We taxpayers have paid into this our whole lives because we have been forced to! Get a clue about what it is!
You deserve it we have paid into Medicare our whole lives! It is funded by us the taxpayers! It is OUR money! Get a clue
The problem is that the "nephew" and millions of others don't understand that "free" ACTUALLY comes at the expense of forcing WORKING people to pay for OTHER PEOPLES EXPENSES out of their hard earned money. ANY form if socialism punishes the working class to provide for the parasite class. Socialism is a paradox not really understood by the mentally weak-until it is too late and they are being executed for not contributing to the "common good".
Medicare is paid for by the people who receive it. They've been paying for it their whole working lives, along with Social Security. When they finally reach the age they can collect what they put in, they have to pay $170/month premium for it. That doesn't cover prescriptions. Prescriptions is another policy with an additional premium. And because Medicare's co-pays are so high, they will have to pay another premium for supplemental insurance.Really not sure what happened to the money taken out of my paychecks because when I worked my insurance premiums were alot cheaper then Medicare and covered a lot more. So please stop calling Medicare socialized or free. It is neither.
Load More Replies...Well there is a lot to unload there. Medicare isn't socialized medicine. I know it is in a way. But it was never meant to be. Oh screw it no one cares and no matter what I say everyone is just going to insult me so screw it.
My Dad was bitching about the evils of socialized medicine until I explained that the VA/Medicare plan he enjoyed was indeed socialized medicine.
No it isn't. Your dad is still paying a monthly premium for Medicare, more then he would have to pay for health insurance if he was still working. The co-pays on Medicare are higher then what you would pay on an average employer based policy-- so how is that socialized medicine??
Load More Replies...Medicare only pays 80% of anything. And many things that are covered under traditional insurances are not covered. Unless your aunt also had Full Medicaid, which is completely different she didn’t pay nothing for her procedure. And you can forget about dental or vision coverage. I don’t know about all of you but I don’t have the money to always pay 20%. And once you hit what they call the “donut hole” Medicare pays nothing for prescriptions. People wanting socialized medicine don’t know anything about Medicare in this country.
This isn't really a "don't understand how the world works" thing. This is an argument used by people who don't want to pay a little so that nobody has to pay a lot.
Her surgery was not free some people pay 300 dollars of their ss checks monthly for Medicare.
I'm assuming your aunt is older and paid into the system already. If not then it's people like you who are helping to pay for her knee. Imagine if everyone could collect on it...that social program would go broke within a few years. I mean they already say it's going to be broke in 15-20 years. Sucks for us who have been paying into it our whole life and probably won't get the benefit because too many people use it without giving anything back. Imagine if everyone took a penny and never left a penny...
There is a social program that works like that - it's called Medicaid, and yes we just might go broke paying for it - at least those taxpayers funding it. And I hear there is new legislation to expand Medicaid. Wonder who will foot that bill?

Most of us Americans know absolutely nothing about the rest of the rest of the world, but we do have an opinion about all of it, and it’s usually wrong.

Not US citizen so I don't understand what happened here. Isn't it good that your healthcare is free?
I have a job where I pay for my health insurance. I had knee surgery last October. I also paid nothing for my surgery.
I was in the US military for 20+ years. Our (non-elective) medical care was 100% paid for, but I would regularly hear (right wing) service members rant about the evils of 'socialized' medicine. WTF do you think our medical care was??
Who paid for your 100% paid healthcare? The government doesn't pay for anything, including that 100% paid for healthcare (which I believe you deserve) but please remember all this free government stuff isn't free. It is paid for by working taxpayers.
Load More Replies...Do not understand. I don’t understand the American health system. I though Medicare was for those who can’t afford treatment etc. and is covered by taxes, like we pay our National Insurance and taxes to fund the NHS. Why is it such a bad thing to help those who need it? Or have I gotten it totally wrong?
No mediCAID is what is provided for free and is paid for by taxpayers. MediCARE is what all workers pay for throughout their working lives and into retirement years. It is not a free program and in fact often costs more to be on than the insurance we had when we were working- I know mine does. Let's not get the two mixed up.

'Kids' think that us old folks are wasting all THEIR money on free stuff for rich old folks. She looked at me and said “why can’t he just save up if he wants to travel?”
I’m 27 years old, grew up with most of the same privileges as her, and have never had the time or resources to leave the country. But she thought it was reasonable for a historically disenfranchised community member, growing up with nothing, to save up his money in order to leave home and travel.

I was in the US a few months before 9/11 and even in New York people didn't understand what SMS was let alone had a phone compatible or were using it.
How is there an amount of eyewitnesses of 9/11 that makes people wonder why there isn't more? I mean, i'm a stupid alt-left radical commie anti-America extremist, but i think that if the tallest buildings in the city had a passenger jet aircraft fly into them and turn into a dust cloud of smoke and non-melting steel beams, i'd notice it.
A friend of mine in college was absolutely shocked when I and several other friends pulled out our childhood/hometown public library cards at dinner one night. She could not fathom that all of our families went to the library regularly when we were growing up and that this is an extremely common experience for a lot of people. When I asked her what she did when she wanted to read books growing up, she said "My family just bought them all."
One of my dreams. Own books. I have been able to acquire books and will keep those that I want to re-read. All others go to the library.
Former roommate declared, "I'm an only child, that means I don't have to be nice if I don't want to."
I was 16 years old, in Driver's Ed, and the teacher asks us an extra credit question. "Why are there interstates in Hawaii? You can't drive there from any other state."
A girl in my class raised her hand and asked, "Was it because they were built before Hawaii broke off?"....This girl thought it was a possibility that Hawaii broke off, and drifted to the middle of the Pacific ocean, all in the last 50 years.
Also, Hawaii has interstates because, if a highway is funded by the federal government, it's simply called an interstate.
My old boss was railing on me for placing an order late and getting charged more after missing the ‘early bird special’, when I had been reminding her consistently for at least two months (gradually increasing my urgency that she needed to make up her mind). She was yelling at me and then said, “$$$ might not seem like a lot to you but it is to me!”
This coming from the person who set my wage, signed my checks, owned 4 substantial homes, had MILLIONS of dollars worth of artwork, designer everything, etc… While I was living in a 250sq foot garden studio apartment with my partner, which flooded when it rained longer than two days, making her hundreds of thousands of dollars from sales, with no commission.
My aunt is a bit into that. She's done really well for herself but has forgotten that not all of us are retired engineers who play the stock market for funsies part time. She suggested Thanksgiving at my place one year, and I had to remind her that I lived in a 2 bedroom apartment and inviting around 15 people there wasn't going to work.
I was involved in a nonprofit for women in my last city maybe 2 years back. My ex (we were 27 at the time) was from a rich area of the state, and the mean income for this area was $31k. A teacher talked about how 500+ kids in her school were homeless, abs how seniors would pool their money together to get a hotel for days or weeks at a time.
I remember telling my ex about it, and how awful that’s gotta be to be 17 and living with 10 others in a hotel. He said “they’re stupid. If they had any brains, they’d buy a house so they could get equity; the hotel is just them throwing their money away and not getting anything from it.” He was 100% stuck that these 17 year olds, with no addresses, who are MINORS, can apply and qualify for a mortgage. I fussed at him and don’t regret it, because he is so out of touch with reality. Eventually he went on months later to say he talks down about other people and acts like he’s better than everyone because he is better than everyone.
Edit to add: to clarify, he suggested the high schoolers should all buy a house, not my organization. Household income was about 10k higher than individual. His parents were loaded, so he never had to really pay for anything until after college, and even then he didn’t have to pay for housing for the first 3 years of his career, and even still, 95% of his (nice) furniture and everything was given to him. It’s very easy to brag about your 401k when you NEVER had to allocate money towards rent, loans, etc.
He would have been an EX the first time he said something that stupid.
i’ve genuinely heard someone comment on a homeless person asking why they “don’t just get a home”…
f*ck this y'all i'm picking myself up by my bootstraps *grabs bootstraps and source engine noclips out of the atmosphere*
Some guy whose parents paid for his college tuition mentioned to a coworker who has $107,000 in student loans say he should be able to pay it off in 5 years.
Coworker makes $23 an hour on 5-8s.
Classmate in college kept throwing his Starbucks cups on the ground and other garbage.
"They pay people to pick it up"
He was the son of a guy who owned multiple resorts in South America.
A coworker believes the US Military employs the use of Lightsabers.
Older coworkers asking me why poor people keep spending/borrowing money when they know they'll never pay it back..
Lol, like to live? What's the difference in $2k or $20k in debt when you know you'll only ever be paying back $0?
It's kind of liberating when you accept that you'll always be in debt. I'm getting a MA and buying a house. I'll die in debt. Good luck collecting the money then.
One of my relatives "Joined the illuminati" on facebook.... On. Facebook. He was really serious too and excited about it.
My fiance is a doctor, I'm an engineer her and I grew up VERY blue collar. We still have tons of student debt to pay off before we can reap the benefits of a good salary.
Her friend, a doctor who was a resident when she was in med school, was talking to us about the new house she bought, and kept asking us when we planned on moving out of our s****y apartment and getting a nice big town house. She couldn't comprehend that unlike her, our parents aren't rich, and they can't buy a house for us in CASH, and let us pay them back interest free.
I love her to death, she's a sweet friend we have known for a long time. She has done so much for us in terms of friendship and emotional support. But her mom was a successful surgeon, her dad retired early after selling his successful business.
There are poor people in the world who cannot for the life of them imagine what the life of a rich person is, and there are rich people in the world who have never, ever had to be confronted with what a poor person's life is like. They are surrounded their whole lives with people like them, and they really don't have a clue that there is anything else.
Had a girl ask what happened to the Mongolians in history class. She said “there’s not like a present day Mongolia or anything”. She sat under the ten foot wide world map, Mongolia was about two feet above her head.

When the United States legalized same-sex marriage, and Americans said they were going to emigrate to Canada. 1) Canada and Norway are the first countries to legalize same-sex marriage 2) You have to apply to emigrate to Canada. It takes years and tons of paperwork, and you still might be rejected.
Yeah, I don't remember Americans having ever been invited to Canada...just sayin'. - Sincerely, all Canadians

Load More Replies...I don’t blame wealthy people for not being constantly acutely aware of how other people live. I do blame them when, if confronted with how poorer people live, they won’t take a minute do some simple math in their head. Like the wealthy woman who told me that if I visited Europe I should be sure to stay for at least a few weeks or a month and take my time, when she knew that, at that time, I made $18,000 a year. WTF?!
yep, arrogant as hell though. At that salary, which here is considered moderately low middle-income, there's ZERO chance of overseas travel. You need to be getting ballpark $ 30 000 per annum to stand a chance.

The amount on stuff that did not really happen in this list and the ones that were meant as jokes far out weigh the real ones... lol
Some of these were funny... But the ones making fun of teens for not knowing how the world works were kind of sad. Like... they're still kids, they're pretty new here, they only know what they've been taught and exposed to, which is a reflection of their schools and caretakers, not of their intelligence. Like, yeah, a 16 year old should know these things, because someone should have taught them. What, do you think they learn how the world is by osmosis? Just because they have access to social media doesn't mean their phones can auto download all necessary knowledge into their brains. They have to know what to look for to learn on their own, and lots of times that takes considerable life experience. Stop ragging on literal children for not knowing things.
Neighbor was complaining about our lawn. I told her we don't have a mower. She said "So fix it". I repeated "We don't have a lawnmower"
She meant fix the lawnmower problem but that's still unreasonable

My mom goes by the quote "if you are letting someone borrow money, don't expect it back"

The only thing she had to do all night was pour wine. They paid her a few grand. When she got home to her dad's apartment, he was in town for the weekend, she said to him, "Wow Dad, now I know how the other half live." Um honey, you ARE the other half. The next time he was in the office after that he told this story to every employee. He literally told the story like 20 times. Most of his employees can barely afford their rent.
Sounds like an EXTREMELY boring and uninformed life for the dad and/or daughter

Work customer service for a major retailer that uses gift cards, which are treated as cash. No word of a lie, when client told me that they had gotten the gift card and mailed it out, after receiving, their response to being told we wouldn't refund it was "That's like watching my mother being raped. Picture you're mother being raped. PICTURE YOUR MOTHER BEING RAPED...." Over and over til I hung up.
Growing up, we categorize these rich people into two categories. People and marks. Yeah I'm not much of an upstanding citizen growing up. You do what you can to eat and a well gamed mark can keep you and your friends fed for a while.
Anyone can be rich. Just pick the right skin color, have wealthy parents and influential friends, be good looking, attend a top notch school, pick the right country to be born in, make sure you are male ... Just don't understood why everyone does not do these simple rules for success.
I have a feeling that it was mostly about America and their situation. and it's scary. I'm happy to live in Europe. the American dream is not as sweet as people here often imagine.
You must be very lucky then. I have lived in europe all my life and I am poor as f**k. In Spain unemployment is rampant, salaries are extremely low and many kids go to school without food. In the netherlands you need to pay a extremely expensive insurance (minimum 95 euros a month) to even get any health care and not get a huge fine. Here in belgium if you are a migrant and disabled like me you get nothing, only threats and lies from the government. The only reason why I am not in the streets is because my partner has a job and cares for me.
