Winter is here, at least for those of us in the northern hemisphere, and with it comes a whole bunch of seasonal changes. The leaves are gone and the trees are naked, the grass is hidden beneath the snow, and the ducks in the ponds are ice-skating instead of swimming. The landscape is barely recognisable when compared to the summer months, and as you can see from these pictures, many places look incredibly different when juxtaposed against pictures of the opposite season.
Compiled by Bored Panda, the collection of photographs below contains some of the world's most beautiful places before and after the arrival of winter. From New York and Norway to Iceland and Japan, you'll be amazed how much the seasons can affect the overall personality of the landscapes they touch. Don't forget to vote for your favorite! St Joseph Lighthouse, Michigan, USA
This is my home town. They just late nature melt it. The shores of the lake, and the river this lighthouse is at the end of, both freeze over... ships aren't around in the winter.
Load More Replies...It looks like a landscape from Fantasia ("The Neverending Story"). Beautiful!
How could it withstand the elements year after year....Just the weight is enormous not to mention chemical reactions?....It should crumble shortly!
Lake Bled, Slovenia
It almost doesn't even look like the same place - they're BOTH stunning!
Hamnøy, Norway
I wonder which season do the residents enjoy more. Seems like it ought to be warmer weather, but one would think they chose to stay north for a reason too.
Natadera Temple, Komatsu, Japan
Lake Wanaka, New Zealand
The mountains in the top photo had snow on them already. I would imagine it was an Autumn photo. They're both beautiful.
Nope, I live in New Zealand and that is an accurate Summer vs Winter comparison :)
Load More Replies...can someone tell me the 1920 x 1080 size of each of these two photos? i'd like to see a bigger size of it. also, where does it come from?
The Historic Village Of Shirakawa-Gō, Japan
Over grazed, over populated and doubt Christmas is celebrated, but we could learn much from their elder...
Yosemite National Park, California, USA
This snowy Yosemite was taken by Oliver Wheeldon, @Oliver_Wheeldon on instagram
I HAVE to vote for Yosemite! Firstly, it's ALL only natural beauty! Secondly, it's been a family favorite for generations. My grandparents honeymooned here in the 20's and my parents got married and honey-mooned here in the early 50's
The purple hue that was added in the winter photo makes it so calming. Whereas the vivacious colors on the before photo makes me so happy. Love the STUNNING difference!
Pergola, Conservatory Garden, Central Park, New York, USA
I just love to be the first to walk in the newly fallen snow there<3
Landwasser Viaduct, Switzerland
I meant to write, that would be one hell of a scary train ride for anyone who has scared of height problems. Lol
I don't know about the picture but My first thought was that would be on bell of a scary train ride for anyone who has scared of height problems. Lol
I love how the rock seems to change color with the season. Absolutely gorgeous!
Vilnius, Lithuania
I live there. This side of the city is rarely shown in photos. My favorite is this: vilnius-wi...262014.jpg
The Castle is surrounded by a huge lake from all sides. You can see the only bridge connected to it. In winter it sometimes looks like the castle is standing in the middle of a field!
I prefer to believe it's steam, Debbie Downer.

It looks like someone just dumped a ton of powdered sugar on it....make sure you don't sneeze, cough, or really even breathe...lol;p
Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia
it's a place who's not talked enough, but i saw so many gorgeous picture of Croatia.
Been there in early summer. All green and lush. But winter time was something special. Magical stillness all around you, and you feel like time stopped :) If you didn't visited us, you should. There is so much beauty in croatia, not just to see, but to feel as well :)
Neuschwanstein Castle
Reine, Norway
Have you ever been to a place that's -30 degrees? It's mostly fragging cold, foggy and dark. But when it's clear and the sun is out it's pretty.
Load More Replies...Central Park, New York, USA
it's either from a different direction or it's a different bridge...the surrounding trees/buildings etc don't match. still beautiful AF but...just saying
It is from the opposite side of the bridge. Look at the shape of the tree the bicyclists are under in the summer photo. It is off the left end of the bridge in the winter photo.

Every 30 years of so, there is enough snow in Phoenix to scrape off the cars and throw snowballs.
