It's recommended you use said signal BEFORE you hit the brakes to make the turn. Because afterwards I have sort of figured it out already.

My brother won’t use turn signals because: “Then people would know what I’m doing.” Seriously. He said this seriously.

Look first, THEN signal, THEN break. You're warning people that you're about to turn from a part of the flow into an obstacle. I'm amazed at how people say "But I DID indicate!" when they really only did so after they'd already stopped.

We learned SMOG - works for making lane changes, pulling out from a curb, and some turns. (Maybe a double lane turn.) S - Signal (and not at the last second. Like a few seconds or few hundred feet, depending on your state.) M - Mirror, look in your mirrors. O - Over the shoulder. Look over the shoulder if the direction you want to go. G-Go- ONLY IF IT's safe and clear to proceed. Note- if your blinkers don't work, use hand signals out your window. Also, if you can hear your blinker doing double time ticks, chances are one of your blinkers is out. Have them checked.

PSA: If you're following a student driver on a sunny day and they suddenly switch on the windshield wipers, they are probably about to make a turn.

In other words, communicate with others so we all stay safe.

That's awesome! Can you imagine if everyone could get on board with that? Maybe cops should be the ones to start setting the example because they don't seem to know about this.

I prefer the angle of my front wheels to indicate which way I'm turning, teehee.

I loathe people who don't use the blinker.

It always gets me that in the US we call it a "blinker" while most of the English-speaking countries call it an "indicator" because, y'know...it indicates which direction you're turning.

for those having problems with "left" and "right" - you turn the little stick with your pinky finger into the direction you will turn your steering wheel in the next minutes - and before you hit the break

They don't have that little stick in BMW's.

On Some cars that will put on your wind screen wipers though..

Not EVERY car. In the UK, it's on the left side in most, but not all, cars. And in Japan, it's the opposite in pretty much all cars. Patronising snark doesn't work if it.....doesn't work.

A turn signal is supposed to be an indication of intent, not something that lets me know what you just did. This is why in UK it's not called a turn signal, it's called an INDICATOR. People who use turn signal AFTER they turn are morons

Ah, unless it's on a 1970's Bond Bug and various other micro Cars, in which case the indicator switch is in the middle of the dashboard / control panel and usually didn't work anyway because of rust, bad wiring and c**p design ..... I loved those cars, fun to drive, frustrating to own and bloody expensive if they went wrong !!

What about the fun of not knowing?

Passengers always get annoyed with me when I hesitate to make a right turn when a single car is coming with its turn signal on. (Like they are turning before they reach me, so there’s no need to pause before I turn). I had a couple of near misses where cars didn’t turn after all and almost hit me. (With drivers of course yelling and gesturing at me then…). Don’t know whether they changed their mind about the turn or didn’t know their signal was on.

Make sure the turn signal fluid is checked twice a week too.

My partner drives a HGV, you'd be surprised how many people when approaching lights or stop signs just pull right in front or overtake just before cutting the stopping distance down drastically.
