People Share The Worst Roads In Their Countries After Brit ‘Complains’ About A Potholed Street And Here Are 43 Of The Scariest Ones
You don’t really care about how bad a road is until you are the one using said bad road. The same applies to snow in winter—you don’t really care about it until all of your regular parking spots become piles of snow and you can’t but try and improvise your parking until the snow melts.
Anyway, this British humor without context page on Twitter, very appropriately called No Context Brits, has recently shared a picture of a pretty rough road—one that has been patched up so much, it’s just ridiculous at this point.

And while the post got almost 95,000 likes with over 10,300 retweets and 21,100 quote tweets, turns out this bit of road wasn’t all that bad, as it spawned a slew of responses showing off all of the more horrible roads around the world.

A couple years ago a man by the name of Alexander Susuki decided to fix his neighborhood potholes himself in St. Paul Minnesota. He was arrested and fined for doing it. The explanation was unlawful damage to a public throughway.

If you want to find a bad road, check out General de Gaulle Drive on the New Orleans city limit on the Westbank. There are blocks there than you can't drive over faster than about 2 mph unless you want to lose the bottom of your car. I moved away from that area right before Katrina, but I'll bet that road still looks *exactly* the same.

Here in the U.S. Republican senators just refused to even consider voting on an infrastructure bill. I suppose because good roads would make it to easy for people to get vaccinated and vote.

For context with UK potholes, they used to be very rare. We don't have much ice, our rainfall is spread evenly through the year, 95% of the country has solid geology and roads underwent regular maintenance. Then the government cut the maintenance budget to save money. They didn't save a penny as more money was spent fixing undrivable roads and damaged vehicles. So they decided to pass a bill making potholes not the government's responsibility.

I'm in Trinidad & Tobago, we have the largest deposit of asphalt, the Pitch Lake. Ironically, we also have horrible roads even though we're only 5131km-squared.

the roads in Tobago (i have been there 5 times and spend most of my time up in the northern part around Roxborough) aren't super bad, because there's only the one road that loops round that part of the island. but drive off that main road and you see some crazy roads for sure. how's the lockdown going in trinidad?

The pyramids are still around, both in Egypt and Mexico, ya got yer Stonehenge and yer Easter Islsnd heads, yer Great Wall, yer Roman aqueducts and colliseum ... but constructing a flat length of road stymies us!

Speaking as a Brit who works in the road repair industry - I've had some interesting phone calls with members of public who call in to complain about the state of our roads saying "it's worse than that of some third world countries" and yes I do get into a bit with them and tell them it's really really not and that he should be thankful he has roads to drive on at all where he can drive 5 minutes round the corner to his local shop and buy expensive mineral water and to remind himself that some countries don't have those luxuries!

Strange how the local governments don't fix the roads and yet expect people to cycle to work or use greener forms of transport.The reason I hear time and time again as to why people don't buy a smaller city car is because the state of the roads are so bad and have damaged their vehicles they switched to a SUV in order to deal with the situation

There was a mayor of a suburb of Montreal who would pay residents for reporting potholes after a certain point (ie, the city had a short period of time to fix them, after which the first person to catch them out got a finder's fee). I always respected him. Montreal's roads are atrocious. But everyone thinks theirs are the worst, so I won't compare.

Our roads have improved immensely since turfing our old mayor five years ago and getting a new one. Now we just have a weird heat related buckling on one of the bike paths. P1020655-6...8cdf96.jpg

Something crazy happened a couple of weeks ago in Georgia (State.) One of the main roads was completely repaved from county line to county line. They did not repave even 3 inches on the neighboring county's road. They also did it without closing all lanes of traffic for months. It was nuts. So it CAN be done. They just don't.
