We often hear about the biggest animals that would easily tower over humans twice, thrice, and some even ten times. But how big, exactly, are they?
Let’s take the blue whale, which is known as one of the largest animals ever to exist. Imagine: the largest ever measured 110 feet long. If that doesn’t ring a bell just yet, think of it as longer than 2 packed school buses that seat 40 people each. It’s also longer than 18 grown men of 6 feet laid head to toe with each other.
If your head is spinning, right down below is a collection of animal photos that put their size into perspective and do the "just imagine" part for us. From very large Maine coons to gigantic Siberian tigers, these are the big boys and girls of the animal kingdom.

I Never Knew What Absolute U N I T S Clydesdales Are Until I Saw This Picture
Yup. Had to have. The average Clyd is 17-18 hands at the withers. The tallest horse known right now is 20 hands 2.75 inches. This is either photoshopped or she is about 4'6"
Load More Replies...First they find the largest Clydesdales they can, then the littlest person they can find. Shires are the largest horse breed in the world.
Yes, I tend to agree with you.... I've seen many Clydesdales, and while they are huge they are not as large as in comparison with this human..... I think some 'tinkering' has been done here . . . .
Load More Replies...Did you know that there are only about 5,000 Clydesdales left in the world? :(
These are ponies. The lady standing with them is unusually short.
In order to get the accurate picture, we should probably know how tall she is. If she's 5'10", the size of those horses are impressive. If she's 4'11", not so much.
I thought the same thing. She could be a short woman.
Load More Replies...I just googled the average height for Clydesdales and it came up as 6 feet. Are these guys huge or is the person super short?
Tagging And Blood Tests For Bison. Just To Give You An Idea Of How Big They Are, This Male Weighs Around 3000lbs
An Adult Ocean Sunfish Compared To Them At Birth
I am gonna be honest and say that I didn't know that these things even existed.
We usually imagine felines as cute little furballs who, no matter how fast they grow up, still fit into our lap just fine. But there’s one cat breed known as the Maine coon that can easily reach up to 40 inches. In comparison, the average size of an adult domestic cat comes in at as little as 8 to 10 inches.
In order to find out more about the scale of these massive felines, Bored Panda reached out to Jess Beckwith, a professional Maine coon breeder based in the United Kingdom from RudyCats.co.uk. Jess told us that Maine coons are referred to “as the dogs of the cat world, not only because of their incredible personalities, but also because of their size.”
They’re the biggest domestic cats and can range from 11 to 33 pounds when fully grown. Two of Jess’s “young neutered boys currently hit the scales at around 21 pounds.” Meanwhile, the largest Maine coon is named Barivel and he measures a whopping 3 feet and 11.2 inches from head to tail tip. That makes him longer than a baseball bat.
However impressive the scale of Maine coons may be, it’s not the most important feature when it comes to exhibitions. Jess said that “good bone structure, features, and the ‘not too extreme’ look is best, as well as temperament and health, of course,” are more important for winning a title in the big game.
Meet Patrick, The World’s Oldest And Largest Wombat
Except Patrick died 3 years ago - he was much mourned by staff & local Ballarat residents
I used to live in Ballarat and i remember visiting him :D Was very sad when he passed :(
I love these fur babies, they're so adorable, and very docile they are, not to mention they're willing to be buddy with any other animal, no matter how big or small.
Giant African Land Snail
gary's the size of a normal snail, because spongebob squarepants is the size of a sponge
Load More Replies...This photo is a little misleading--note how big the person's hand is compared to her body. It's a weird camera angle that makes the hand (and therefore the snail) appear much larger than it actually is. However, that's STILL a snail that's the size of your hand. Hold out your hand and imagine a snail that size sitting in it!
Well pointed out, but still: more than a handful of snail! :-0
Load More Replies...I just imagined herds of these things moving across the grasslands. "it's a stampede!!!"
This big boy who resembles an oversized guinea pig is, in fact, a nocturnal marsupial known as a wombat (Vombatus ursinus). Patrick has stolen people's hearts by being both incredibly cute and gigantic. Weighing 84 pounds, he is one of the largest (and oldest) wombats ever to have lived.
Only quite recently, a new, wombat-like species was discovered in Australia called Makupirna nambensis, which literally translates to “big bones” in the aboriginal language. The creature’s remains are now one of the oldest fossils found in the area, thought to date back to 25 million years ago. This boy could have weighed 330 pounds, which is more than five adult wombats living today.
Yet, Makupirna is still not the biggest. The absolute record-breaking wombat-like creature was called Diprotodon and it weighed over two tons. This powerful beast could have lived until 11,700 years ago.

I Have Severely Underestimated The Size Of A Moose
FINALLY. I get to see a pix of a Moose with something to show something to compare it to. YEA. I want to see one in the wild. Bucket list.
No you don't. Trust me. I almost died. I was walking in the woods and came across a huge tree, so I climbed it. As I was getting down I heard a huffing coming from behind me and thought it was a charging bear. It was a moose. It saw me and froze. I couldn't climb up the tree because it would take too long. I backed away waving my arms forward and back bc that's what you do with horses. I think it might have taken this as
Load More Replies...This reminds me of something my philosophy teacher once told me. He said that if you're driving, you see a moose, and your options are either a) hit the moose or b) drive into the ditch, choose option b. Because if you hit it, its legs would break and it would fall on top of you, crushing you to death
A friend of mine hit a moose in her little car. Destroyed the car, she was very lucky to survive. Northern Ontario (Canada) has a ton of moose's

I have a pet rabbit who is half flemish giant. Nowhere near as big as that beautiful animal, though.
Load More Replies...Once, at the rabbit festival in Mexico City (Xochimilco, to be exact) the Tuxpan Rabbit Farm was there. They brought their family pet, Aquiles, with them, to show off to the crowds. Aquiles was a Flemish Giant the size of the bunny in the photo. He lived in the family's house, hopped around freely, and his best friend was their terrier (of some type) dog. I want one so much.
We had a giant white one we named Confectionary Sugar , we called her Sugar Bunny.
Maine Coon vs. Siamese Size Comparison
wow, well u know what they say cuteness comes in all shapes and sizes
I adore Maine C**n and Norwegian Forest cats. They have such sweet personalities, are incredibly active, and so very floofy.
I had a mixed breed Maine c**n with bits of tortoiseshell, he was the best cat I ever knew! Quite big, had the trademark eyes, fluffy tail and winter ruff, and loved belly rubs and even raspberries on his tummy. Madness and cuteness
Load More Replies...My cat is a mix, he got big from the Maine c**n and loud from the Siamese
My friends had a pair of Main Coons- one, Darcy was ginger and Lily was brown tabby-like. They sure took up your lap and more when they wanted a cuddle...
We thought our black, long haired cat was a Maine C**n until we had her shaved. All fur.

Marine mammals should never have to live their lives theme park attractions. Even the rescued ones who can't be returned to the wild have better things to do than act as a roadside attraction. Do what's best for them. Leave them alone in the wild, and keep any unreleasable animals in accredited sanctuary habitats that allow them to enjoy as many of their normal species behaviors as possible--away from gawking crowds of humans.

A Full Size Snapping Turtle Compared To What Most People Think Is A Full Size Snapping Turtle
Yup, they can snap pieces of timber like a human could snap a toothpick. Quick note your arm is about as tough as a carrot to them.....
Load More Replies...These are two different species. Snapping turtle on top, alligator snapper on bottom
Same species, I'd say, as the ridges aren't pronounced enough on the bottom for it to be an alligator snapper
Load More Replies...Well, that's slightly concerning. They both look incredibly prehistoric.
Turtles go back to the Jurassic, roughly 170 million years ago.
Load More Replies...I have a local thing by my house it is kind of like a mini mini zoo (snakes, frogs, skunk, and turtles) and it also has a wildlife viewing trail. Anyways, they have a 2 foot snapping turtle in a 3 foot thing with no place to rest because the whole thing is only water. It disappoints me to think that people would keep such an animal but won’t give it the proper care it needs.

The first time i went to Australia zoo we saw a massive salt water crocodile but i wasn't moving. My brother thought that it was fake and that me and my mum were tricking him when we said it was real. Then the croc moved its head and my brother screamed.
This pic has loooong ago been debunked. While huge, this animal is clearly in the foreground of the picture. Forced perspective.

A Whale Skull With A Human For Scale

Yo... This is actually a baby whale's skull. A fully grown adult whale has a head bigger than that. (I know that's baby whale because I had seen it in a museum)
Blue whale's tongue weigh as much as a full grown female elephant. So this skull is pretty small. Maybe a young blue whale. Real size difference: https://forfun.com/MCI7

The Absolutely Startling Size Of Vespa Mandarinia Aka Asian Giant Hornet
Not to worry. The only effect of one dose of Hymenoptera venom is a short period of pain and unless you have an allergy, it's not that dangerous at all. But beware the warrior wasp. Fully Inflated Horse Lungs
It's quite common for vets to do this. Horses are known for snorting dirt, which in turns gets captured in their lungs. It's a well known practice for vets to remove the horse's lungs, give them a good hoover, then return them to the horse's body. They said it took two men over an hour to land the 14-and-and-half foot marlin on their 20-foot boat. The group also said that judging by it’s size, the fish was probably aged between 25 and 35 years. They added the angler was not sports fishing, nor was the fish caught for trophy, noting that marlin is a “very prized food fish in Hawaii” and this particularly fish will be eaten.
Listen, I get that you all care about animals, I do too, but this man will probably eat this fish and not just take a pic and leave it for the gulls. It's okay to hunt as long as it is within reason and you respect the animal's life. This man is proud of this catch. There is really no need to wish him ill, and say that you wish he was dead. It just makes you sound judgmental and mean. And if it was really just for the pic, yeah, f*ck him.
well, hunting for food is somewhat ok but having fun at killing is just disrespecting life
What are you basing that on? Most of the animals are still very much alive and many of them are being helped by the humans in the pictures.

Agreed 100% While there is some benefit to controlled hunting of certain animal species in certain areas, and at specific times...Trophy hunting is barbaric and elitist. Thankfully, photo safari's are becoming the norm. Also, shooting something with a camera and getting a good photo is much harder than killing something with a gun. It challenges and requires the same skills, too.

Here is one of the basic problems with people today, they assume everything without seeking out the information first. None of these pictures contained trophy kills! Most of the dead animals could have been killed by other animals not just humans. And here is the biggest one: People STILL EAT MEAT! Just because you are a vegan/vegetarian does not mean that everyone is as well. It was YOUR CHOICE to live that lifestyle, I didn't choose that for you. So don't sit there on your fake throne and try to tell everyone else how to live their lives. If we eat meat, then just move a long with your condescending b******t!
This, basically; I'm guessing some of the actual dead ones also died of natural causes.

I find posts about animals interesting and am always delighted to learn new things here on Bored Panda... entertainment with the added bonus of learning. :D
Most of these are forced perspective photographs. Size is decpetive.
Apparently I have a thing with size differences, or i'm just a human being... can't tell. But this post gave me the heeby-jeebies
All these people are saying that they hope the animals are ok and how horrible humans are for killing them. I bet most of these people eat steak, cheeseburgers, meatballs, and many other foods with meat in them. I don't like the mistreatment of animals either but I can't live without meat so I can not be making a fuss about how bad humans are for killing animals.
