People Share How Pizza Hut Has Changed Since The ’90s And It Hardly Looked Like It Is Today
Quick, what are the first three things that pop into your head when I say the words “Pizza Hut?” For me, it’s wholesome evenings out with my family, thick crust pizza, and those massive iron pans that they used to bring pizzas out in. However, the Pizza Hut from yesteryear now only exists in our memories and photos.
Ricky Cobb, the founder of the Super 70s Sports Twitter account, created a viral thread about Pizza Hut nostalgia. The thread got more than 95.2k likes and over 20.9k retweets and people shared their own memories about what the pizza chain used to be like.
We’ve collected some of the most nostalgic memories about Pizza Hut, dear Pandas, so enjoy it while it’s piping hot and fresh. Scroll down, upvote your fave pics, and let us know what you miss about Pizza Hut. Oh, and when you’re done, have a look through Bored Panda’s list about McDonald’s nostalgia from the ‘80s and ‘90s right here.

Book it is soooo disappoint in you! Now go back and read all those books. You owe it to pizza hut!
I bet the hot pans went after someone sued for getting burned by one. I know...sad.
My chest just got an empty, yearning *ache* after seeing those lights. Ow....
From the exterior and interior to the glassware, children’s literacy programs, and the price of the food, Pizza Hut used to be an entirely different beast. Or, as one Twitter user put it, “To some, it was just a Pizza Hut, but to us, it was a Pizza Home.”
Staying relevant in the world of pizza is a nonstop battle. According to CNN, pizza-lovers tend to flock to whatever restaurant has the best promotions. So to stay in the game you have to make changes. Even to the things that you love.
One teeny example: Pizza Hut announced in 2019 that after 3 years of research and development, it changed its pan pizzas for the first time in 40 years.
It has changed. I'm paying a $1 extra for hand tossed being passed off as pan.. WTH!! BRONG BACK OG PAN!! #BringBakOGPan
those pans made THE BEST buttery, crunchy, perfectly delicious yummy goodness crust!!!!!
I totally agree they need to go back to old school what was wrong with it??? I want godfathers back to galesburg!!!
100% agree! Pizza Hut tasted so much better back in the 90s, the salad bar was everything! If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Load More Replies...That's a shame. Sorry you are being downvoted for something that's not your fault.
Load More Replies...Iced tea in these with my mom when she pulled me from school for random ditch days to the mall and Pizza Hut. One of the few good memories from that time.
Our Pizza Hut had one and we would take our plate with pizza and set it on the glass so we could eat while we played :)
They had one of these at our local burger joint when I was growing up.
In a previous interview with Bored Panda, Ricky, the founder of Super 70s Sports, told us that he started the Twitter feed more than 5 years ago as a hobby.
“Figured I’d try to entertain my friends and make some new ones. It has been an incredible experience. I’ve always loved comedy, sports, and nostalgia. I thought some other folks might too. But I never would’ve thought over 300,000 followers was realistic,” he said. Ricky’s account is now closer to 400k followers than 300k and the number of fans keeps growing.
According to Ricky, he wanted to blend his love of nostalgia, comedy, pop culture, and nostalgia in one place where people can “share some laughs, interact, and enjoy a sense of community.”
ME TOO!!! Family nights at the Hut. Yesssssssssssssss
Load More Replies...I used to work in the one in Gunnison, CO in 1986. Looked JUST LIKE this.
That truly depends on the pizza-baker. Let's just say: my greasiest meal EVER was once a rectangular pizza in a university-cantine. Yikes.
I miss this!! I was just thinking about it the other day and here it is!
Only rectangle pizza I ever had was on holiday in Italy - there was a little place in the village where we were staying that truly did the best pizzas I've ever had.
I never got served a drink in the red glasses - it was always a clear glass. I feel cheated.
Lolol the clear cups were water cups. Your parents wanted to save a bit of money by getting water cups & getting soda anyway.
Load More Replies...In Australian Pizza Huts they used to have Candles burning in red glass on the tables, every time I would burn the c**p out out of fingers fooling around with them. If you were good the waitress would give you a Styrofoam Glider, was never good but somehow always managed to get one.
This looks like some pizza-style quiche or pie... and if it was, it must have been great!
It was a pie. Bottom crust, sauce, toppings, cheese, top crust, sauce, cheese. Required a heat sink inserted in the middle to get it to cook all the way. They were amazing. It was a special crust and sauce just for the Priazzos
Load More Replies...I don't know exactly what that is, but it looks like a delicious, artery clogging masterpiece.
this was THE BOMB!!! For the unfortunate souls who never had it,I'm sorry!!
Actually, it wasn't deep dish, it was an actual pie with a thin bottom crust, sauce, toppings, cheese, another crust, more sauce and cheese and a heat sink inserted in the middle so it would cook all the way. Spent a lot of my tips on these, because they were a special menu item, no employee discount. Well worth it though
Load More Replies...It was, so beautifully, wonderfully wrong. I miss these more than anything
Load More Replies...I have not been to a Pizza Hut in years. But I used to go to Pizza Hut every weekend I got the chance.
well mcd's has glasses too, but not solar shades XD
Load More Replies...i find all fast food toys are but they're still fun XD
Load More Replies...They weren't pizza buffets at the time. You ordered from a menu and this mom was taking the leftover pizza home for their lunches. Only the small salad bar was a buffet.
Load More Replies...Bring out the massive purse that's holds all the Tupperware. Stealing for sure. Wrong wrong wrong!!
The pizza is doughy in the middle now. Every time. Don't ask for a crispy crust
That's because it comes frozen now. They phased out hand made dough in the late 90s, beginning with the personal pans. As dough master, I had to be there at 7a.m. To make fresh dough each morning. Once it was all frozen, no more dough master, openers there at 10:00a.m. Saved a lot of labor, lost a lot of customers. This is what happens with what my dad used to call management by accountant, just looking at the numbers without considering results
Load More Replies...They're stiil in southern Connecticut and eastern New York, probably New Jersey too . . . the real pizza states ;)
Easter Pennsylvania has some kick a*s ones as well
Load More Replies...It does seem that an emphasis on aesthetics has been lost over time and you can apply it to nearly anything. Remember when cars were actually beautiful or cool? Now everything is the same.
Well the cars is more about protecting the people inside, the cool cars could handle a crash but the people inside could not. Now people live while the car dies they're made to crumple and reduce passenger death
Load More Replies...I worked at Pizza Hut in the early 1990s. We did not have any frozen dough in our store. I was too young to legally operate the giant dough hook, but I was the one putting the dough through the roller and into the pizza pan all evening and the Big Foot pizza was the bane of my existence. The dough was thin and we had to work it into the corners of a rectangle pan without ripping the dough. From a production standpoint, that thing was a nightmare.
Back in the day When I was 6, I remember getting some sauce out it a big tablespoon. I remember licking it and putting it back in and not telling any one. I was so ashamed of myself!!
Time keeps on slippin slippin slippin ...into the future (doo doot doot doo doot)
Is that picture of an Australian Pizza Hutt? RHD Ford Falcon PV out front.
Is that picture of an Australian Pizza Hutt? Certainly looks like a RHD Ford Falcon Panel Van out front

You seem to ruin everything for yourself. He is not your door mat to blame your lot in life on.
Load More Replies...My mom always chose "Nights in white satin" on the jukebox. Also in middle school, there was a cafeteria line that was pizza. Pepperoni was the only choice, but that's my favorite anyway. The school would rotate through Pizza Hut personal pan only cut in half, little Caesars, and mr Gattis. I'd alway look forward to the Pizza Hut week.
I remember Mr. Gattis! Lots of cheese on their pies~yum.
Load More Replies...Do you not have sit down Pizza Hut with salad bars now?? We do in Britain. All you can eat buffet lunch is epic. (I mean, obviously not lockdown now, but old now, like 4 months ago now)
Yea in much of America it's getting harder to find sit down Pizza Huts at all
Load More Replies...I can't believe how much sugar I consumed as a child from those red plastic cups, we'd get at least a pitcher for a family of 5, usually we'd get a second pitcher. (the key was to drink all of the soda from the first pitcher before the pizza arrived then tell mom and dad we needed another one)
I can't believe nobody mentioned the free DVD promo they had! I ended up getting Weekend at Bernie's through that promo!
We still have an all-you-can-eat Pizza hut, it’s not that much different than the 90’s except the toys, some of the decor and special menu items.
Pizza Hut was my first job (early 2000's) and they were DRASTICALLY different than in the 90s... Sooooo much oil in their pans- yuck!
I haven't been to a Pizza Hut in 20 years. I kinda expected it was still like this.
