Apparently Mara Wilson lived with Danny DeVito and wife Rhea Pearlman while this was going on. They also threw her a birthday party.

To learn more about this iconic decade and how Only 90s Kids Know started in the first place, we got in touch with the page’s creator, Jonathan Miller. Jonathan was kind enough to have a chat with Bored Panda and shared that “the inception of 90s Kids stemmed from a mix of boredom and fear at the start of Covid.”

“I felt trapped in my tiny Brooklyn apartment, and I had no clue what the future held. At this point in time, I had been working in growth marketing and community building for about 12 years for both large and small companies,” Jonathan explained. “2 years prior to Covid, I decided to take a leap of faith and offer my services on a freelance basis to brands/companies/musicians around New York.”

That dude had five children that he and his wife fully supported in a rich neighborhood and an EXTREMELY nice house where all of them had their own rooms. Not to mention that they could also afford yearly vacations that involved air travel and accommodations for the entire family. Even in 1990, that nearly $1,000 was not hurting him.

“Business was actually booming, but once Covid hit, everything hit the fan,” Jonathan shared. “Brands were nervous about spending money, and it was difficult to onboard new clients. So here I am, sitting in my apartment, worried about my next move.”

“I start reminiscing about better times, specifically my childhood in the 90s,” the creator continued. “I realized that I can’t be the only person who just wishes we could go back to better times and escape our current reality. I took my professional experience and decided to create @onlyninetieskidsknow to test the waters.”

“I started posting 90s nostalgia, and to my surprise, users started sharing the content like I had never seen before,” Jonathan says. “In fact, the posts were getting significantly more shares than they were even getting in likes. That’s when I knew I was on to something. Fans were sharing my content with friends, family, etc., and it was clear I wasn’t alone in my thinking. I think I probably hit about 10k followers in the first month."

Jonathan says that around the time he hit 10k followers, he launched a website that sold nostalgic items such as pogs, fingerboards, enamel pins and other 90s toys. “The website started selling out, and I couldn't keep up,” he shared. “Within 2 years I had 275,000 Instagram followers and 16,000 orders placed on the website.” Around this time, Jonathan also sold the page to Almost Friday Media. He still manages 100% of the creative direction and makes all of the posts; they just own the account.

It’s also kinda weird how it’s wiped from existence now. Like for example, Fresh Prince continues to stream and has a reboot. Same for Full House and a few other very popular shows. This one isn’t totally wiped from existence like Perfect Strangers but it’s not as culturally relevant as I would expect.

I threw out my yearbooks because I only had a handful of signatures from people I don't talk to. And one year (our high school did one for each grade level) one of my "friends" took it over and wrote a ton of notes about who she did/didn't like in it. Most of the notes about her friends weren't even people I knew very well, if at all 😤 she wasn't a very good friend, looking back.

We were also curious what it is about the 90s that Jonathan loves so much. “It’s hard to pinpoint one aspect of the 90s I miss most because the decade itself just feels so overwhelmingly positive,” he told Bored Panda. “From the music, food, movies, friendships, clothing, etc.”

“But if you’re twisting my arm and I have to choose one thing, I’d say it was the carefree attitude we all seemed to have,” Jonathan shared. “A typical weekend day in my childhood went like this: Wake up and have cereal with my cartoons. Go outside, meet up with my friends and ride bikes, skate, explore the woods, go to the pool, get into trouble, etc. No phones, no worries about anything.”

When I was in highschool there was a boy who was completely bald. In fact I don't think he even had eyebrows. I always assumed he had cancer and refrained from asking about it, but years later I found out he had alopecia... when he appeared in the newspaper working with a charity that supports kids with the same condition - go him!

Hey, my kid started losing his hair at 16. Shaved his head to stop the teasing, and couldn't get a job because he was 6'3", built for football (his dad was a tight end for the Seahawks). Everyone assumed he was a new Nazi or whatever the groups are called now. That was as far from the truth as you could go

Why ? Studies show that balding men have more testasterone ans when all other things are equal, women prefer the balding guy. The theory is they can uncousiously pick up( pheremones ?) that there is more testaterone and are swayed.

IDK, do we have to completely sanitize everything? It's been said Disney would never make Bambi today, because there's death in the story and it makes kids cry. Kids don't live in a vacuum. The loss of loved ones is a very real experience, for which stories can be relevant. Kids also have parents, if they're lucky, and those parents have full adult relationships. Are we trying to hide adulthood? I don't think kids are traumatized by it. It's just another part of life, and learning is what kids do. *steps off soap box, but just to use the bathroom. I'll be back.*

I felt sick and didn't want to throw up on the floor so of course I threw up in the pie tins and ruined weeks of watching water evaporate.

One of the greatest albums of all time, Rage Against the Machine "Evil Empire", yes please. Always hated No Fear, the ultimate in poser gear. 98% of the kids that wore it had no idea it was apparel and gear for motocross, it was just trendy. Same type that wear Quiksilver, Hurley, Fox, Tapout, Affliction and all that trendy for no reason B.S.

Viennetta! You can allegedly still get those, but I never see them in the store when I check. And only the vanilla kind, unfortunately. Lidl sells their own version, though (still only vanilla). It’s great for scratching that nostalgic itch. In college, those were the height of luxury.

A love for 90s culture isn’t only for those who lived through that time though. “Over the last few years, I've definitely noticed a shift in interest from Gen Z and even Gen Alpha,” Jonathan says. “My niece and nephew, who are 13 and 9 respectively, have both shown interest in the 90s generation. My niece’s favorite movie is Clueless, while my nephew’s is Encino Man. Last Christmas, they asked for a boombox player with cassette tapes! It’s really funny to see, but we did the same thing with the 70s when we were that age."

If younger generations want to familiarize themselves with the 90s, Jonathan says movies are an excellent place to start. “Although sometimes exaggerated to what it was really like, many films are a snapshot of the time,” he told Bored Panda.

“I would also encourage the younger generation to follow accounts like Only 90s Kids Know. We are on TikTok too! It’s the best way to really see what us millennials miss most about the generation. I’ve already noticed many younger kids following the account. I’ll see comments such as ‘I was born in the 2000s, but I'm somehow nostalgic for this’ or ‘My older brother tells me all about the 90s. It looked like so much fun!’”

“Us Millennials could talk about the 90s all day. So please join in on the convo if you’re younger and curious,” Jonathan shared. “We’d love to tell you why N64 was superior to Playstation 1 or why Brink and Johnny Tsunami are the best Disney Channel original movies. We could go on for hours.”

Everything rhymes ... a treasure to be kept, if you happen to still have one! I got one, I took it from the teachers' smokers' room when I had to write an exam I was sick at the original date for. Yup. Before life got sophisticated with specially made traveling carrying cases I always emptied out my school backpack and stuffed everything in and was ready to go. Stop by 7-Eleven to grab a 2 liter of Dr. Pepper and a bag of Cool Ranch Doritos and that was a Friday night.

They said they did it with their 64. Not that the person carrying the PlayStation is carrying a 64

I always thought it was an amazing coincidence that 90% of girls online in the 90s were blonde 19 year olds in Florida named Jennifer with nothing else to do on a Friday night than to hang out in chat rooms and wanted to talk my 13 year old self up; I was young, but I was not that stupid

To be fair, most of the glasswear in our house growing up came from the petrol stations as they gave them away with so many gallons of fuel. Having a Dad who drove around 100,000 miles a year meant we never ran out of them!

There is no reason for the wheel to be rigged, it's used to determine who will go to the final Showcase and offers no prizes other than $1000 for someone that may end up getting the exact dollar. It would be one thing if it was always the "hot chick' or the "Navy guy" that won but it's not so there's no justification to say it's rigged.

I didn't grow up with any rich friends with an over the top set up like this and glad I didn't. I grew up like the kids in E.T., with the cool mom that let us sit around the table and drink beer and smoke cigarettes and cuss and play cards. I'll take that over something like this picture any day. I'd be too awkward and uncomfortable around people with a setup like that. Not my kind of people.

I think I loved Crystal Pepsi more for the novelty than the way it actually tasted but I always asked to do extra chores to earn money to go buy it any chance I got. One of the few foods/drinks I have nostalgia for because it's not around anymore. Most things I loved as a kid still are.

I got my first “western” drink when I was about 10. Don’t even remember what it was, probably Fanta or Sprite. It came in a can, which was also my first drink to come in a can. I was sipping in standing in the window thinking how cool it looks if any passerby sees me. Made the can last whole day until it was warm, flat and disgusting but enjoyed every drop.
