With so many discussions about why women don't choose to work in male-dominated fields, one reason often gets overlooked. Frequently women who end up working a job surrounded only by men experience all sorts of diminishing behavior from their colleagues. The lack of respect, harassment, and blatant sexism hold women back from taking jobs in any male-dominated industry. Recently a Twitter user asked women to share their experiences while working only with men. This thread perfectly highlights the problem women face while trying their strengths in 'boys club' workplaces. Scroll below to read them!

Don't breath. The up and down movement of your breast will give him more than impure thoughts.
Really?, oh sorry officer i raped that girl because she was wearing shorts on a hot day and i have no self control and it's all her fault, sheesh, pathetic human being.
only if he thinks they are girl tables and chairs
Load More Replies...For a vocation that insists on telling others how to behave, clergy should be in MORE self control than others. We all know that is not the truth.
That one should just remove himself to some far away monastery full of male monks where he never has to see a woman again. Then he'll have no one to blame but himself for his 'impure thoughts'.

Load More Replies...Weir, isn't it? I wonder if there is some kind of association at work: Bones -> boners -> dickheads
Load More Replies...Ortho is known for "Me doctor, break bone". Both male and females make the same joke. It's a very physical job. And yes, it is male dominated because of that. Not because women are disrespected, it's just that more men are comfortable with the brute force concept. ( Wife's a doctor, ER)
It's true- female ortho surgeons are not to be messed with, they are hella strong.. you have to be.
It could be the ankle was broken and healed incorrectly or a deformity was caused by some kind of disease. The surgeon would have to break the bone to fix the damage.
Load More Replies...Not strong enough? My girlfriend once held me in a headlock till I begged for her to let go. I kind of deserved it for watching the last part of 'Crisis on Earth X' without her, though. I felt bad for days :(
Orthopedists used to have to be strong and dumb. Now they have powers tools
Parents that tout the phrase "boys will be boys." SMH. (Oh wait... not smack my head, but smack their heads.)
Load More Replies...Nurses, especially female nurses, must get harrassed a lot at their job, which sucks
Mostly by the doctors. I think there was a study that showed a lot of bullying going on between the younger nurses/ doctors and their older counterparts. It might be some sort of old apprentice/ master attitude or simply people being a******s. http://www.healthcarebusinesstech.com/hospital-workplace-bullying/

Load More Replies...It's just as bad trying to ask some of these guys at a hardware store about anything, especially if you are accompanied by a male. They'll talk to them, not to you, even though you're the one with the question. Even if the guy you're with knows absolutely nothing about the subject. OR, BONUS, they stare at and ogle your boobs. Even if you're still in middle school.
I've had this exact experience - more than once! Now I get my DIY supplies online after googling/Youtubing for any advice I need. If we all did that those misog twats would all be out of jobs.
Load More Replies...Hard to believe in this day and age, men can still be this condescending- oh, wait- Trump says it's okay..
I work at a car dealership in service and I get this from men a lot. Sometimes I dont know what they are talking about and sometimes I do, but I would like to them not to assume I know nothing about cars.
Gosh, I hate it when people call you names even when the don't even know you. And he automatically assumed that the male worker would be smarter than the female worker. We should all treat each other equally, for we are all human. Black. White. Male. Female. We. Are All. Human. ❤❤
Feel this. I worked with contractors in a hardware store, we were having a job fair when a guy comes in looks at the paper and states that only idiots would work there but not me "You're too beautiful to be here, why don't you model?" I smiled and replied that I actually was and as I raised my middle finger I told him I was a professional have model
Exactly, they can make a list but they can't fire them.
Load More Replies...As a man, this makes me want to cry a little, as a manager, these people would not be working for the company for long i can assure you, i think in the U.K. we can fire people a lot easier, we don't have people suing us everytime.
Why why why why would you create a list of dangerous men instead of FIRING THEM? This is why so many men think they can get away with s**t like this - because they do. Employers would seriously rather force female employees to take extra safety precautions than hold their male employees to commonsense standards. It's not uncommon - I've worked at multiple jobs where something like this was happening. Including my current one. It's infuriating. Can we raise the bar for men, like, an INCH?
The fact that you even need that sort of list is sad. I'm sorry you even have to worry about that.
How many of these men are there at your workplace that they have to make a list? And more importantly, why have they not been fired and why hasn't the company been sued for tolerating this kind of behavior?
Because they're men. Because 'they're important to the company'. Just because.

Actually they HOPE women cannot perform 'men' tasks -- they need someone to feel superior to.
Load More Replies...Some people can't twist their minds around there are no "men's jobs" or "women's jobs". If you love it and are fit for the job you can do it, regardless of your gender.
Something similar happened to me, I was told I made it look too easy (jackhammering floor thinset residue) I'm 5ft, 100 pounds soaking wet (short bodies have lower center of gravity), told to go do something else while the mighty men took care of the jackhammering, two hours later I'm hearing cursing because their arms are falling off in pain and it's not as easy as I made it look. To this day they have never understood how angling works with a jackhammer
I worked for 15 years on a concrete crew, as a finisher and imprinter. I never had any issues with any of the men on our crew, and only one encounter with a man on an electrical crew. They respected me, because I worked my a*s off.
Sounds to me like they not only couldn’t believe she could do it, but then they also might have gotten off on watching her actually work at it.
what you should of done was got out your phone and starting filming them whilst narrating how creepy they were
I work in I.T and deal with a lot of companies, i have sadly, taken over calls from my female employees because the guy on the other end doesn't believe what they say, i will always reiterate the same information and adding "as my colleague told you, we all have the same expertise here", sheesh.
I would like to praise you for how you're handling the situation and giving credit to your female colleagues. This is not only about feminism, or mutual respect in general, it's also a form of solidarity at the work place. Stay awsome. Hopefully, more and more people will learn from guys like you.

Unsafe working environment for the male staff? What did he expected someone standing to close to the flames to get an erection?? 😂😂
When I was 22 yo, I wore a tank dress to work because it was in style and other women were wearing it. Management (male) came to me and told me I could not wear it anymore because it was distracting others. This is because I had larger breasts.
Stupid how dirty men's minds are these days.
Load More Replies...Opposite. I worked at Lyons in the 90's we had SEE THROUGH uniform shirts. Had to show off our bras everyday but god forbid we have a tattoo, red nail polish, or anything in our ears but studs.
This reminds me of a story my mom told me that when her and her best friend worked in JCpenneys(like the 80s I think??) they wore a skirt and tights and the manager put his hand under her best friend skirt and grapped her butt to check if she was wearing tights
I'd've grabbed something, too--then twisted. Hard. (At the junction of his legs!)
Load More Replies...At my old school, we couldn’t wear shorts or cold shoulder tops because they were distracting. Apparently boys were distracted when us girls wore shorts. I also lived in Texas, so we had to wear long pants in 100 degree weather. Oh, and the boys still got to wear shorts. I told a teacher that the boys wearing shorts was distracting me, and she said, “then don’t look at them”.
Attach spikes to it, then it will be an actual UNSAFE skirt. Or just tell your boss that his pants make you feel unsafe.
No One's Baby as she swings the men around and slams them onto the ground, "Puny Men"

I'm a tomboy so I like to punch my male friends. Once one of them said I punch like a man and not a girl and I made a point to tell him that my gender has nothing to do with it and told him if he was weak it wasn't MY problem.
Wow. It seems some men will never change, and always feel threatened by a female with power, skills above them, or their abilities.
Female Hulk Smash!! When she said grab you by the ankles and slam you around, I just pictured Hulk with Loki in the Avengers.... "Puny God!'
Men thinking im 'weak' being a women shits me to death. I will lift you into the bin if I have to mate...back off!
But then you're being an 'emotional woman' or 'you must be on your period' :(
Load More Replies...Yup! I am in charge of all productions for my station. You would not believe the number of times someone will walk past me to ask a male coworker a question, only him to ask me, because it's my decision. More infuriating, is when those conversations go on for more than a question. My crew tells them "I don't know, she's in charge" but some don't get it. Also, I absolutely hate people trying to pull things from my hands to "help". I know I'm carrying 4 bags, 3 cases, and a mic stand, but I've actually got it balanced, and it's my job. Believe me, I have enough people working for me, that if I couldn't or didn't want to carry all that, I don't have to.
I'm just here looking for "the guy" that asks if she got the job because she was "%&$ing her boss. I'm surprised...well done civilized men!
I hear that a lot from male workers about other girls. it's disgusting. some of it true but that's in the minority.
He was actually being progressive as most chefs are male, or he was being sarcastic and knew that yo
That you, like most managers can't actually do the job you oversee
Load More Replies...That's funny cos some men say that men make the best chefs and cooks. Hmmm.
And what was wrong with that? He fixed the stove, and then said it was ready for you to cook on again. Seems to me you are a little sensitive.
A*s wipe. Just say, oh, ok so you don’t want to get paid? Because, hey! I write the checks!
It isn't always the men. I was standing at a yardage counter with several other women. A man walked in behind us. The female clerk looked right over our heads and asked how she could help him. Nice to feel invisible.
that's insane. what do men know about yardage?! (obviously, everything if you ask them, but if you ask women?)
Load More Replies...I use the "boy" term whenever someone drops a "girl" comment. Pisses me off.
Only when it's a condescending one. "Hey girl, what's up?" doesn't offend me at all, but "Hey girl! Can you get over here and lend a hand?!" drives me up the wall.
Load More Replies...When they do something for you, rub them behind the ear and say "good boy!"
I've done that! A male coworker pissed me off so I started calling him my "good little boy" or sometimes "sweet little boy" whenever we met. To really confuse him and to make sure he didn't think I was in love with him or something I changed my voice when I said it. Like, I could say "Oh you're a good boy!" in a type of voice and tone that I would use to speak to a puppy. That voice...... He was in his 50's, I was like 31 at the time and it ended with him avoiding me more and more til I never saw him or even heard from him again 😈
Load More Replies...I would have reported himfor being disrespectful to a coworker in view of patients or clients. But the time will come when he does that, and you can say, oh don’t worry about him, that boy has a lot to learn yet. He’s sweet and tries really hard.
But wait , if you call out Hey Boy , it’s sexist. You can’t have that happen on the job! Lol
Male ego... The most fragile thing in the universe. Well done/raised society *clap clap*
Really? How often do men “mansplain” to each other? I just know guys do that to women constantly. It’s been done to me so many times, I gave up trying to keep track of it.... Sometimes they don’t even know what they are talking about and just spout false information.
Load More Replies...You have to be careful. I was working at Chase when they hired on a guy I had worked with previously. He was let go from his former job for pulling a chef's knife out of his briefcase and coming at someone. I went to HR. But because there was no absolute proof, they told me I couldn't warn people. I could get fired for that. I left an anonymous note in his bosses mailbox. Risked my job to warn him, but it seemed like a good risk / reward at the time.
This is about how many women feel most of the time at work in these places. Justifiable scared.
Load More Replies...I was in school in 7th grade and this (a*****e, sexist, etc) guy repeated the same thing that my (female) friend said, and the teacher said what a great idea it was. Raising your hand IS respecting her classroom. These teachers who keep other women down make me sick.
Load More Replies...I had a biochemistry professor who refused to answer my questions, and would just tell me I was stupid and shouldn't interrupt him. We had a problem with some broadcast equipment, a little while back, that required service and technical support from the local cable companies to come out to correct. One guy, i'll call "Bill", I've worked with on a few other occasions. Great guy, who knows that I know more about my system than pretty much anyone else. So, me, Bill, and three other guys from different companies are in the mechanical room trying to fix this problem. Bill happens to know the others, and introduced me as the one that knew the system. The rest of the meeting went pretty much as follows: Guy 1: "this isn't working" Me: "we should try xyz solution" Guy 2: "i don't know about that" Guy 1: "that would never work" Bill (looks at me, looks back at them): "(repeats word for word what I just said)" Guy 1: "That's a brilliant idea!" *solution works* Lots of eye rolling Bill did apologize to me afterwards. I told him he had nothing to apologize for, and thanked him for translating.
This happens so often. ..As a nurse I learned how to lead(male) doctors to make my suggestions look like their own ideas....nothing worse than a smart nurse for some,
I've had that happen too. In a small problem-solving group of only 3 people. I suggested something, was looked at like I was too stupid for words. 5 minutes later one of the guys suggested the exact same thing (in almost exactly the same words) and the other guy was all "Great idea! We're doing that"

"Who the **** you calling little, listen I have the power to remove you and fire you so watch your ****ing self."
My mum worked as a lorry driver when she was younger, this happened all the time and she hardly ever got taken seriously.

Probably?!!i would have called a lawyer stat, taken pictures and sued the f*****g company for unsafe work environment! Plus! For a staff member to vote you?? Omg! That is assault pure and simple. What did you end up doing? With theses kind of men, you have to get them in their pockets, where it hurts the worst, and does the most damage. They will never change.
I think you need to google the definition of racism. Erroneously thinking black ink won't show up on dark skin has zero to do with whether or not you think a race is inherently better or worse than another. Stop virtue signalling.
Load More Replies...I worked at a place where the manager had a “fuckable” list of the females in his department... many of these people were minors (it was a grocery store with a lot of teens working part time stocking)
In that situation, I would be all about stealing the list, and going to his boss or a lawyer. Of course, if it worked would depend on whether the list was explicit enough, but I'd be trying it.

It would be great to film it and report it to the police or smth, then they can't deny it
Ha! I use to waitress and a guy grabbed my tail (I was 16) I "slipped" and spilled all of the coffee I was carrying on his lap when I walked back to the kitchen.
I used to work in the restaurant industry. A sous chef, who was basically the executive's right hand man, would do the same thing to a couple of servers. Myself, a bartender, and two male servers took him out for drinks after work one night and just beat the s**t out of him. We told him why we were doing it and that he should think twice before doing it again to the two servers we worked with or anyone else. He was pretty well behaved after that.
This gives me hope for human kind after reading about so many creaps here.

Hah! I love this. I used to work with a team of 2 other women, doing property maintenance for a rental building. There was always this one creep who'd sit in his lawn chair across the street, leering at us, whenever we worked outside. We really, really, REALLY wanted to go over there at night and spray Round Up on his lawn in the shape of a giant penis. I still wish we'd done it.
Yup I've been in management positions and the older men especially never assume I'm in charge or correct. Unfortunately I learned to work twice as hard to "prove" myself even though I would overhear my male colleagues literately make things up... and everyone just stood around and agreed with them. smh
Geez, talk about a back-handed compliment! Which I doubt he meant to give, too. I'm sure he meant the dumb part, though.

Yup, it's legal. ERA never passed as an amendment. Not only is this kind of s**t degrading, but our government has never done it's job to protect/create equality!! I won't go into discussions about the grossness and immoral nature of the situation, as we are all aware of it and mostly mutually agree. I'll just add that it's very reckless to tongue-kiss a person non-consensually, like this. I hope that guy got herpes afterwards. Maybe even mononucleosis.
That is when you sue the c**p out of the company. Again, hit them in the pocket. The one thing those kind of men love more than their d***s? Is money.
This happens a lot in IT. Males get promoted over women no matter how critical a resource they are.
Work. To. Rule. You're gonna be a supervisor? Gee, I forgot how the job goes. We'll see how good you look now. (It works...)

I got into the habit of trying to use exactly the same words as they did and then turning to them and saying "that's right isn't it?"
I used to be a service adviser and had a LOT of men demand to speak to a man about what was wrong with their vehicle. Fortunately most of the techs would let the guy start and then say "I just turn wrenches. Let me get you someone who can help you better." and then hand them back to me.
I'm with ya sister, been a service receptionist for almost 10 years, there is nothing I love better than showing a MAN how to use their car, or explain to them what something the tech said means, and then they don't believe me & I get said tech (who fully aware I am not stupid) and HE tells the guy the same thing! This not only happens with men, btw, women are just as bad when it comes to cars.

I worked in a lumber yard for a couple of years when I was in school, and the managers were actually pretty good, it was the customers that were creeps. One day I was working in the warehouse when a guy drove up and asked me to find "one of the guys" to load his truck. He was building a shed, so there was a lot of stuff, but someone had already bundled it on to a pallet and tied it down, so that left me with the easy job. ...///... He had a flat bed pickup, so when he went inside I checked the tie downs on his truck, then walked toward the forklift (operating a forklift is not particularly complicated and requires NO muscle). ...///... He grabbed my arm and said no, he wanted one of the GUYS to load his truck. Then he started ranting and screaming at me. My boss heard the hubbub and came out to see what was going on (in the meantime, people were lining up to pick up their orders, so there was an audience), and they guy yelled at him that he wanted "one of the guys" to load him up. ...
The manager looked at him, then looked at me and said, "So load his truck." I got the forklift and did just that. As I was walking to the forklift, I heard my manager say, "SHE is one of the guys. YOU are not." We never saw him again.

I have a friend who was wearing a tanktop and shorts, and she was given a jacket by the office that she had to wear all day (it was like 90 degrees). I wore a skirt to school one day (without tights: *gasp*!) and boys wouldn't stop telling me how I was going to get dresscoded. It was pretty embarrassing, and I've avoided wearing skirts/dresses since :/ I have a friend who was groped by a boy in the middle of class, and I know of a few girls who have had their bra straps flinged. Meanwhile, the school has done close to nothing to stop any of this :(
You should start a petition, get your parents involved, get local NGOs involved, your local church or University, someone should stop this madness! Since when wearing a skirt or a dress is not appropriate for a female? How come the majority of men don't revolt against the assumption they are not capable of controlling their "urges", when they are ? If we were all to wear black Burkas would we still be "distracting" ?!? :(( in 2019

But it never should have happened, it was a public venue, we were working the door, and customers and staff were in full view and within hearing distance.
Female, qualified welder ,for years it's been the same, "where are the men at, I need some welding done" sexual harrassment from co workers who would randomly come to my home, not invited and they had partners with children, then upon refusal of there advances turned into out right bullying, tired of the industry treatment ,my last boss told me qualifications didn't mean anything and that any idiot could weld while he paid male white workers more and gave me all the crappy work he could find, including building a new fence for his house, which he drove me to, probably over 20 KMs away from my work place which made me feel very uncomfortable. I have emphysema now and I can no longer weld, I'm sad because I was an excellent welder managing with a child and had to overcome some many obstacles and problems, feels like I should never had tried in the end I have nothing to show for all the blood , sweat and tears

I ran into a friend who asked what I was doing lately. I told him I was working at the sawmill. Later his wife said he told her "that's the first time that girl ever lied to me" Soon after he saw my mom, asked her "What's Jane been up to?" She said "She's working at the sawmill" lol
Here's my best story about working with all guys: I did wrestling in High School, and since I live in North Carolina I was the only girl. I was really nervous my first day, since it was my first time ever wrestling. However, none of the guys acted that weird, they were really patient with me and taught me the different moves. A lot of them became like older brothers to me and were really encouraging. Even though I haven't done wrestling since, I still have really good memories of working with those guys. I love my wrestling brothers!
Aw it's refreshing to hear a nice story among all these negative ones

That's the thing. We are recognized as people, but people who are 'less strong' 'less educated' 'not on par in the skills department' and as sexual ornaments. Luckily, that IS changing and there are plenty of men who stand with us. uwu

Load More Replies...We call it getting "dresscoded" when somebody is given different clothes to wear at school by the office because their clothes are too "distracting".
:(( in 2019

That's reassuring at least. It's still a shame that these abusers still have jobs and/or genitals.

You are still an excellent welder... moronic attitude in your previous workplace is not stripping you of your qualifications! Take care! :))
