Sharing a neighborhood can create a beautiful bond between residents. Ideally, when you moved in your neighbors brought over a freshly baked apple pie to help you feel welcome. Now you walk your dogs together at the same time each morning and share a pot of coffee after. When we’re lucky, our neighbors can become lifelong friends.

On the other hand, when we’re not as fortunate, neighbors can become sworn enemies, exchanging passive aggressive glances each time they pass on the street. From fighting over parking spots to playing music at ungodly volumes, we’ve perused the Ask Reddit community to find some of the most appalling neighbor horror stories and compiled them here. Below, you can read all about the pain of these unfortunate living situations, and count your blessings if you have angelic neighbors. Then if you’re looking for more “neighbors from hell” content, check out this Bored Panda piece next.

60 Times People Had "Neighbors From Hell" My neighbors in college thought it would be fun to shoot the pellet gun in their backyard. When shooting at cans wasn't satisfying they went ahead and shot my cat. I was gone at the time and when I got back home, my cat had ran back in through the window to hide, blood all over the floors. Took him to the vet who removed the pellet and he died two days later from peritonitis. One of the saddest moments of my life.

Please say that you got them at least fined for animal abuse. Not that you can put a price on your baby boy, but people gotta learn.

Living in close proximity to others provides neighbors with a great deal of power to make our lives more pleasant or more challenging. But when it comes to Americans, many of them are not huge fans of their neighbors. SWNS Digital reports that 36% of Americans have had issues with neighbors “that escalate into full-blown arguments” and 25% say they have a “long-running feud” with someone living close by. Due to this tension, over 40% of Americans trying to avoid their difficult neighbors intentionally.

But why is it so hard to “love thy neighbor”? Apparently, the top catalysts for issues in a neighborhood are disagreements involving: noise, parking, trash/messes, animal noise, yelling or screaming, privacy issues, animal waste, property lines and family conflicts.

I was the neighbor from hell once. I realize how much I sucked now, but at the time I was apparently just a douche. I lived below a couple with two young children (one couldn't even walk yet). I was in a band, and since I worked the 2-10 shift at my job, we recorded our album, in my apartment, after 10:30pm every night. I can't imagine they liked me at all, but they never really complained and were nice enough when I would see them in the halls and stuff. Still, now that I have my own kid, I realize I sucked BIG TIME.

In extreme cases, neighbor disputes can even escalate to someone taking legal action. FindLaw breaks down some of the common reasons neighbors seek help settling disputes and what their options are in various situations. First they note that issues typically arise when there are stark differences in homeowners’ backgrounds, including cultural, lifestyle or socioeconomic differences.

Sometimes neighbors want to deem someone a “nuisance”, but everyone defines that word slightly differently, and for the sake of a lawsuit, a homeowner has to be able to prove their neighbor is “interfering with the enjoyment of [their] property”.

60 Times People Had "Neighbors From Hell" I guess not "from hell," but still. The neighbors f*****g kids man. It starts every spring. They only have one speech volume, which is scream. It sounds like children are being murdered on a daily basis. They jump all over my porch swing even though I have repeatedly asked the parents to tell them not to. They run up and down the stairs of my porch constantly. I am just waiting for one to get seriously hurt and then it's my fault. I have a narrow driveway and last summer the one got his bike wedged between my house and my cars' passenger door, scratched the s**t out of it. Basically they just run wild and the parents either don't care, or are too drunk to notice at times. I don't know when I turned into a crotchety old man at 30 but damn those kids.

FindLaw explains that nuisance claims are broken down into two categories: private and public. A private nuisance is one that only affects a small number of people in a close vicinity. An example would be a dog barking loudly and incessantly. A public nuisance would affect a much large number of people. For example, “ a nearby hog farm that fails to properly treat its waste, thus permeating the entire community with extremely unpleasant odors”. FindLaw also notes that nuisances tend to involve non-tangible factors, like sounds and odors. Where nuisance claims become tricky is proving in court that the disturbance is continuous and substantial. When possible, it’s best to avoid the hassle and sort these issues out one-on-one.

Used to have a neighbour that put their extra bags of garbage out next to mine. This might not seem like such a big deal, but it was nearly every week, and our municipality had a 2 bag limit - if you had extra bags, you had to put a sticker on them (purchasable for a mere twenty-five cents) or they would not be picked up.

So, every week, I would go out (after putting my two cans out the night before) and find that there were extra bags of someone else's garbage left behind.

It took a long time to determine who the guilty party was, and a couple of extra bags each week added up. I would put on my rubber gloves, open the mystery bags, and sift through them, trying to find identifying information. It was very frustrating, because every week, there was nothing. I knew that the culprits had kids, because there were always dirty diapers. I knew that they were disgusting, lazy, sons-of-bitches, because every bag was full of styrofoam plates and plastic cutlery, which they apparently found more convenient than washing dishes - hence their production of surplus waste every week.

This went on for a ridiculously long time. I would sift through their bags, be disappointed, rebag their garbage, and then grudgingly store it in my garage, with the only other option being to pay for surplus stickers to take it away. Happily, we didn't have a car, so there was lots of space in the garage.

Then - one fine August day, it happened! A bill! A bill was in the garbage! A bill with an address on it, writ large. Finally, I knew the household which was responsible for all the extra garbage. The cheapskates that could not find it in their budgets to affix the mere twenty-five-cent stickers for their surplus waste, and instead sneakily put it out in their neighbours' yards. They were three doors down, and across the alley.

I waited for their van to be gone, and then went over to their gate, opened it, and placed all their garbage carefully back in their driveway. Since fair is fair, and I was already obliged to handle their garbage and rebag it, it I emptied it all out and took my bags back, leaving their six months' extra garbage in a heap in their driveway.

I don't think they ever worked out who had had their revenge on them, since it was pretty clear that they were leaving extra bags for everyone who shared an alley with them - but that was the end of their illegal dumping. It does give me some satisfaction to know that, even if I had to handle and re-bag their garbage when it was fresh, they had to re-bag it after it had been fermenting for months in my non-climate-controlled garage. Pricks.

Another reason residents might seek legal help is when a neighbor is liable for water damage. Water damage can require costly and time-consuming repairs, but FindLaw notes that it’s “important to know exactly what your neighbor's responsibilities are before pursuing a claim”. If water damage is due to a natural occurrence, such as rain runoff, it’s not their fault. Homeowners have a responsibility to protect their own property if it rests on lower ground. However, when water damage comes from landscaping, plumbing issues or other preventable causes, neighbors can be held liable.

60 Times People Had "Neighbors From Hell" I have actually been a terrible neighbor, it's something I actually still feel a little bad about (sort of). Basically where we lived we would get a lot of snails when it rained, I mean buckets full of them, it was a ritual of my mothers to go out and collect them all and 'dispose' of them 'humanely' with a brick.

Being a 6 year old I absolutely loved snails and would feel really bad for the little guys and would go out and grab as many as I could in order to 'save' them, of course it made sense for me to simply throw them over the fence into my neighbor's yard where they could go live happily. It was only much later that I overheard a conversation between my neighbor and my mother in which she was saying all her roses had been almost destroyed by snails, the even worse part was apparently they belonged to her husband (the roses) who had passed away so they held a lot of sentimental value.

After that the snails got 'released' to the house behind us who my mum didn't like so no one was none the wiser.

Sorry lady neighbor I hope your roses grew back okay.

A older lady lives several doors from me that is the terror of the complex and self-appointed "neighborhood watch".

She's called the cops on our mutual neighbor numerous times, for everything from excessive noise (No. I share a wall with them.) to suspected drug dealing, since they had they gall to sit in their car with a friend *in front of their own damn apartment*. She's called animal control on their cat, who sits in his front yard wearing his collar and tags staring down my cat. (She's complained to the landlord about mine as well. I chipped her, because of this nut.) Apparently, her dog won't stop barking at our cats. (Um, yeah?)

She "patrols" our sidewalk (It's a row of townhouses) with her poodle, and I've caught her peering in and trying to open my car.

I'm a nurse, so guess whose door gets banged on if she has an "emergency"? This is frequent. My answer is ALWAYS to suggest she see a doctor, and she's not likely ever getting a different one since I don't want to get sued. In the last few months, she's been sure she's having a stroke, been sure she's having a heart attack, had palpitations, felt lighthearted, "spranged" her wrist, and needed me to check her blood pressure twice.

And I have it pretty good considering the utter hell she brings towards our poor Muslim neighbors. She probably got them all put on terrorist watch lists. "You know, something about that husband just disturbs me. What about you?"

My landlord is great, my rent is reasonable, my unit is nice, quiet, and ten minutes from work, and I like my other neighbors.

She's old and annoying. She can't live forever, right?

60 Times People Had "Neighbors From Hell" Looked out of my window to see my neighbour leaning over my 6ft high fence, and stretching right into my yard to saw some of the main branches off my tree... My tree had never extended over the fence and her limb-hacking killed it.
A few months later, she cut one of the wires attached to our boundary fence that was holding up a shade cloth in my back yard. I called the cops on her.
And a couple of weeks later, all the plants along our boundary fence mysteriously died, and seriously damaged some of my trees...
And I still have no idea what her problem is!

When it comes to how friendly Americans are with their neighbors, there is a generational divide. According to the Pew Research Center, Americans who are 65 and older are the most likely age group to know who lives close by, with 34% knowing most of their neighbors, 56% knowing some of them and only 4% not knowing any of them. On the contrary, 23% of Americans between the ages of 18-29 report not knowing anyone in their neighborhood or building. Age is not the only factor at play, though. When it comes to trust, white, affluent seniors are the most likely group in all of the US to trust their neighbors.

60 Times People Had "Neighbors From Hell" Neighbour behind my house would scream at her kids daily to the point our kids would be afraid to play in the backyard.

By "scream," I mean things such as "You f*****g little c**t! Get the f**k out here!" (verbatim quote) to a kid that looked like he was 8 or 9.

My ex even tried to help out one day; one of her kids was up a 3-storey tall tree of hers that hung over our fence and wouldn't climb down (I wonder why?) and this banshee was screaming all sorts of bile at him to come down. My ex calmly says to the boy "Please climb down, sweetie. You might fall" to try and convince him; the woman then turns on her "What the f**k do you think you're doing? Don't you f*****g talk to my kids!"

I made the mistake of calling the cops on her once while she was abusing several people. She then came after ~~my~~ me physically.

Trust in neighbors seems to be directly tied to level of wealth.  “67% of those with household incomes of $75,000 or more say they trust all or most of their neighbors, compared with just 37% of those earning less than $30,000 per year”. Similarly, when race is factored into the equation, white Americans have the most confidence in their neighbors again, with 62% of them trusting all or most of their neighbors. This is likely because white people are the highest earners in America and can afford to reside in the safest neighborhoods.

60 Times People Had "Neighbors From Hell" Not from "hell" exactly. We used to live in a property with 2 units and we were in the back. Lived there for 4-5 years before the new front unit neighbours (a couple in their 60s-70s) moved in. A few weeks in, she complained about our front yard bit which was not a shared area and it consisted of a tree and 3-4 small bushes. She wanted us to plant something nicer in OUR private area (2m x 1m) keeping in mind we were in the back so no one from the street could see it anyways. My mum told her she didn't have the time to do that so she suggested we hire her gardener to take care of our area and mum told her we didn't have that kind of money to spend. Next thing you know she sends us her grandson (he would've been late 20s) to try and convince us to change our plants to what she wanted. She hinted we should do it because he was a professional *private detective* and he was really good at his job. Crazy plant lady.

Had a neighbor like this, he ended up being really nice and would come over to our yard and tend to it, he planted an orange tree, it was just sprouting tiny oranges when we sadly moved 15 years later {new people that moved in dug it up and tossed it, the a**holes}, He also became one of my high school teachers oddly and i only found out when i went to a school dance and found him there, turned out I was in the class next to his and just got out mins before him so we never ran into each other, I ended up dancing with him lol, it was funny an almost 7 ft tall 13-14-year-old boy dancing with a 60-year-old man{ just to give an idea how how funny it looked}, it has now been about 20 years since then, i hope he's still alive and ok

When I was growing up, my father wound up adopting an orange tabby cat that the neighbor behind us had abandoned as a kitten. It took months for this cat to slowly trust my father, and another year or two before he would allow anyone else to pick him up or pet him, but once he opened up, he was the single most affectionate cat I'd ever known. You could pick him up in your arms and he would wrap his tail around your arm like a monkey while hugging your neck.

We had Bill for three or four years, and he lived in our shed out back, spending most of his time in our backyard. Occasionally he'd wander across the street, especially when the other neighbors would give him treats.

One day my father got a knock on the door. The guy standing there was a neighbor from 3 doors down whom we'd never met. The guy had Bill in a trap, and said he caught him outside his house, that Bill was disturbing his chihuahua inside and making the dog bark.

The ultimatum was made: either we could take our cat to the animal shelter, or the next time around he would capture Bill and take him to the pound. Bill simply couldn't stand being an indoor cat, and so my father wasn't really left with much choice. He took Bill back from the neighbor, sat inside crying, and finally drove over to the animal shelter and have him over for adoption.

About a week later we noticed activity outside the neighbor's house down the street. Come to find out, the neighbor and his noisy chihuahua had been in the process of selling their house, and moved out just a couple of days after trapping Bill.

My dad rushed back to the animal shelter to get Bill back, but they had already adopted him out. According to policy, they couldn't tell him who had adopted Bill. Somewhere I hope he's still out there with some other loving family that doesn't have an a*****e neighbor like that...

Years ago the old man who lived across the street baited traps with tuna and caught all the pet cats in the neighborhood, drove them to a shelter in a different city, and there they were euthanized before we all found out what had happened. Cops couldn't do anything. He didn't like cats going into this yard. Thing is, cats that maybe never had set foot in his yard surely would do so to get the tuna he put out. I still hate him.

Neighbor up the road were caught poisoning people's cats, he'd fill fish with rat bait and throw them in others lawns. After successfully killing multiple pets, calling the cops on the guy to no avail, a couple of Dad's visited the neighbor after he went after their cats. We had a person in our neighborhood who would ‘adopt’ kittens from the local shelter and from people who were looking for good homes for the kitties and he’d feed them to his snakes. He claimed that “Nobody else will adopt them” and “It’s free food” and would often post about feeding the kittens to his snakes. (Edited for punctuation)

Not everyone is a nightmare neighbor though. There are still neighborhoods full of friendly individuals who want the best for one another. To help residents become better neighbors, we checked out Debby Mayne’s article “The Best Tips for Being a Good Neighbor”. Debby, who’s a fiction author and etiquette writer, noted that “the ultimate goal is to live in peace and harmony” and, "Though that’s not always possible, you can at least do whatever it takes to prevent hostilities and long-lasting hard feelings.”

Her first tip is an obvious but important reminder: be conscious of your noise levels. “Mowing [your lawn] at 7 a.m. on a Saturday morning will not endear you to your neighbors," she notes.

Downhill neighbor behind us cut down the hedge between our house and theirs, complained we were 'peepers' trying to look into their house from our terrace above. Their dog then tore up our very old 4-foot fence between the houses and we put up a 6-foot fence topped by a 2-foot section of lattice (max allowed by law) and they could no longer see in to our place. Then they built a 3-foot raised deck so they could see over again and called code enforcement and the police because we were 'peeping' again. The police blew them off and code enforcement cited them for the illegal deck which they had to take down. :)

Next, Debby reminds readers to follow the “Golden Rule” as a neighbor. This includes respecting privacy and personal space, promptly returning items you borrow, stopping neighborhood gossip in it’s tracks, and being responsible for your pets (including their noise levels and droppings around the neighborhood). Around the holidays, it’s nice to send greeting cards or drop off small gifts on neighbors' doorsteps. And when misunderstandings do arise, try to resolve them quickly and gracefully.

60 Times People Had "Neighbors From Hell" I lived in a house that had been split into two apartments. Next door was a crackhead. Normally, crackhead kept to herself and didn't bother me except to bum a cigarette or two every few days.

One day she needed a smoke, but I was down to my last pack, and payday wasn't for another three days, so I said no. She must have really needed a smoke, because it was like a rage switch had been turned on in her head.

I turned around and went back into my apartment to get away from her screaming at me, and she went back into her apartment and started pounding on the walls. At least I thought she was just pounding on the walls. Turns out that she grabbed a hammer and was smashing her way through the walls to my apartment.

I called her boyfriend who was basically a decent dude, and he rushed home and got her calmed down. The hole in the walls was basketball sized by the time she was stopped. Luckily for me they were already being evicted, so I didn't have to worry about her anymore.

60 Times People Had "Neighbors From Hell" I work in the agricultural industry and sometimes have to help sort out disputes between neighbours.

I have always been shocked as to how two grown adults (or two families) will allow the situation to degrade to the point of violence.

One time I was contacted because of a dam usage dispute. Basically, the two warring neighbours were unsure of the boundary between their two properties and both wanted to use this one particular dam. Both had in the past fenced it off, and both had cut the other neighbours fence down.

I identified who the dam belonged to and provided advice accordingly. The neighbour who came off second best wasn't happy... He didn't say anything to me, really. But he did throw a tonne of dynamite in the dam, rendering it useless. It also exploded the animals drinking from it at the time of detonation.

Another person is suspected of taking revenge on his neighbour for some sort of personal slight. I say suspected, because it's been thoroughly investigated and no one knows the clear details. All I can say is that the neighbour disappeared without a trace and rumour has it, was cut into pieces and stuffed down an out of commission bore hole.

On other occasions, I've had to deal with neighbours who have shot at each other, lit each other's infrastructure on fire, stolen each other's property (including livestock) or even in one case, revenge f****d the neighbours daughter. Keeps life interesting.

Never had much luck with neighbours, but by god the last one was horrible. They had two massive dogs that were completely untrained, never left the house and were outside day and night 24/7. Constantly barking their asses off setting my dog off aswell.

One time one of their dogs escaped by jumping the fence off their patio furniture. We had to call animal control because he was sitting at the end of the driveway charging at people who walked down the street, for god knows how long. The second time one of them escaped they took off and the drunk a*****e screamed at my dad for at least an hour accusing him of stealing their dog. Big surprise when one of them never escaped again after moving their patio furniture away from the fence.

F**k those guys, they left a couple months ago and my dad was so excited he took a chair and sat in front of our window watching them load their U-haul truck.

synyster1169 Report

Debby also reminds homeowners to be considerate when having social gatherings. Warn your neighbors in advance if you’ll be throwing a loud party or monopolizing parking spots for an evening. Lastly, she recommends introducing yourself to any new neighbors to start off on the right foot. “Hand-deliver a bouquet of fresh-cut flowers from your garden” or “offer to have the new neighbors’ children over while the moving van is unloading the furniture”. Everyone wants to feel welcome and at peace in their neighborhood, and an added benefit to fostering positive relationships with neighbors is knowing that you’re all looking out for one another and available for help.

60 Times People Had "Neighbors From Hell" In our last apartment, we lived on the 2nd floor. A family on the 4th floor had this kid who was maybe 3 years old. Every morning between 6 and 8 they'd walk up the staircase after having been out, and most of the time the kid would start crying. Loudly. What was the solution of the parents? Leave the crying kid in the staircase on its own for 15min! Our apartment doors carried sound through them very well, so it was basically like having a screaming 3 year old in your hallway every morning.

Let's just say it got on my nerves rather quickly. So what did I do? Nothing of course, I'm a Swede lol.

My neighbours did this as well. It is actually a recognised way to deal with tantrums. The kid doesn't want to come up? You let them know that you are close by and they can come in whenever they want, but you are not carrying them or having a discussion. If the child is already 3, then it really is no more dangerous than them walking up/down the stairs as they would every day. I'm not saying it isn't annoying as hell, but it really is not child abuse or neglect @caro caro @Adam Chang

About 10 years ago when we first moved into our current house, we gave our neighbors a set of keys to our house just in case of any emergencies, or if there was something we needed while away on vacation. We frequently went out of town, and my dad would go on short weekend business trips on which my mom and I would accompany him. Every time we came back, there were always subtle changes in the house, but too small to really question. Like missing condiments, not as much toilet paper on the roll, mats/rugs seemed straighter and cleaner than when we left, etc. About two months later, our family came home from our trip a day and a half earlier. We pull up to our house, and first of all, see a bunch of cars in our driveways, hear the pool and jacuzzi pumps running, and see all the lights on. We go inside only to find our neighbors throwing a dinner party of some sort with a giant mess in the kitchen, every plate, glass, and piece of silverware we owned scattered about the house, wine and liquor bottles lining the counter, a slew of people in our pool and jacuzzi, and worst of all, one of our boats missing from the dock and lifts, and the other one filled with people leaving our harbor... The look on the face of the neighbor's wife in the jacuzzi was priceless; a combination of utter shock and heightening fear as she saw my six foot, big brown dad turning red in the face with intensifying anger. Everyone was out in a matter of minutes, and we had the locks changed, but she was kind enough to send over a team of maids to tidy up the place the next morning. It turns out that for two months, they had been using our house on the weekends. We even found loads of their laundry in our washer & dryer. 10 years fast forward, my mom is best friends with her, and my dad just hates her sooo much.

TL;DR: Gave our neighbors a set of keys to our house, they used it to throw dinner parties and use all of our s**t while we were on vacation.

Jacuzzi, boats, maids. If y'all got that money (and they do too) share! They can let you use their massage parlour in the West wing of their mansion.

60 Times People Had "Neighbors From Hell" We live near a protected area for endangered animals. One of the animals that the sanctuary is meant to protect is bald eagles. Since we live next to a field, it's pretty common for an eagle to sit on our porch and disembowel its rabbit for dinner. We have a neighbor that keeps calling the cops on us because the bird is on our property and claims it is traumatizing his innocent children. He treats us like we're the ones murdering fluffy bunnies for our own amusement.

EDIT1: You are correct, bald eagles were removed from the endangered species list in 2007. However, the land was purchased to protect the eagles and other species when they were in more dire straights. You might find it interesting to know that our bald eagle is a bachelor- his mate was hit by a car (a very hefty fine was involved for the unfortunate soul) and for some reason he never re-mated.

EDIT2: The police do not respond personally, but they do contact the local chapter of animal control to have them remove the bird and several government agencies to report its behavior. It would be illegal for us to in any way entice the bird to come close, or collect feathers or something, and it is extremely unusual both in that it shows no fear of humans (at least on our property) and because it isn't sticking to its normal diet. Eagles are primarily fish and carrion eaters, and with lots of both available I suspect that they are telling people that we are baiting the eagle with fresh rabbit carcasses instead of what's actually happening, which is the bird eating an unusual amount of fresh meat and being too lazy to fly very far with it. So, while it would be pointless to repeatedly call the police, the police put our neighbors in touch with people who make us jump through bureaucratic hoops to prove we're not doing anything illegal to our national bird.

While younger generations may not speak to their neighbors in person, they still stay informed about local events and information. The Zebra reports that online neighborhood groups might be replacing face-to-face interactions, with apps like Nextdoor on the rise. Nextdoor has over 236,000 active neighborhoods across the globe, including 90% of neighborhoods in the US, and is estimated to be worth $2.1 billion. Apparently, 27% of Americans are now in at least one form of neighborhood group, making it easier to sell furniture, chat about why there was a firetruck in the neighborhood, and hear if the new coffee shop down the street is worth checking out.

60 Times People Had "Neighbors From Hell" I live in an old motor court that was converted into cottages and trailers for rent. My neighbor directly across my cottage is a paranoid schizophrenic. He screams about fascist doctors and w**re nurses at all hours of the night. Sometimes he stands in front of his house with no shirt on, arms crossed, and just stares. He makes weird antenna hats and leaves signs all over his cottage that the doctors are in cahoots with the government and are doing experiments on his brain. He only ever wears white and makes his own clothes and if you live in Davis CA you've most likely seen him walking around downtown yelling or muttering to himself. I've gotten used to him and don't think he's dangerous, but yeah, it's awkward when you have company over and have to explain to them why your neighbor is sitting outside wearing a helmet with antennas poking out of it.

Probably late to this, but here goes. Wife and my first house after marriage, we got a completely insane neighbor. She had "environmental allergies" which led her to have ridiculous reactions to any chemical. So she spied on us to make sure we didn't clean or spray anything. She had a "severe reaction" and threatened to sue us when she saw me lining the exterior of our house with chemicals. The chemical I was using was salt. She chased away 3 pest experts that were hired to help get termites out of my house because I couldn't get anyone to treat the area due to her insane reactions when she saw them. Finally rushed a terminex guy on one day while she was gone, he fixed the house up, and we decided to gtfo. Sold the house for a postage stamp and a pack of chewing gum. I feel like i made a great deal. Good luck guy who wanted to argue price with me when I was already giving you a good deal. Enjoy the lawsuits and termites.

Edit to add - the biggest problem with the workers is they were being threatened with a lot of things, but the threat of a lawsuit was what scared them off. I talked to one owner who said "I know we would win that lawsuit. I also know how long it would take and how much it would cost. Son, it's not worth it to either of us."

I called the cops a couple times. Got one trespass warning when they actually stepped on my property. The rest of the time it boiled down to the cop saying to her "would you please quit being a d**k" to which she'd say "yes". And I'd say to the cop "Right. See you in a week." All of this is paraphrased for the really literal readers.

Could have fought. Could have won. Woulda cost money and time, neither of which I was willing to part with. Moving solved two problems. (The other being a more space)

Our current neighbour asked my wife to do some chores for when she broke her leg. Not so bad, right?

Well...

The same neighbour also asked our other neighbour to do same housework when she was completely fine. The list of chores includes the standard stuff. Laundry, preparing meals, bit of general cleaning up. It also included digging out the garbage dump that was once their basement, which was rotten with mold and has to be torn down.

And I wouldn't say this neighbour asked for help either... more like demanded it... oh, and demanded to babysit her kids too. Yeah. While her and her husband got drunk and burns a hole through the cartilage of their noses. And smash out windows to their car and truck. And used a wood stove to heat their home when they couldn't pay any bills.

Oh, and the husband once tampered with my BBQ. Drained the tank and cut the hose.

Some days you can go on the deck, sit with a beer and listen to them curse and scream and make a ruckus. Some times you can even see the social worker pull up their driveway. We call those like we call punch-buggies now.

It's literally like watching a train-wreck in slow motion. It's horrible, it's awe-inspiring, it's saddening and you can't look away at all.

Hope the window was closed at the time! Jokes aside, if it were me, the neighbor would be cleaning that stuff up. If this happened during pandemic lockdown, I would’ve called the police, as I would think any body secretions spewed on my property would be considered a biohazard and therefore an assault. I mean, if the old laws against spitting on the sidewalk came about because the spittle could contain TB and other infectious diseases, then puking on someone else’s home should be against the law also.

60 Times People Had "Neighbors From Hell" Neighbors kid use to always just walk right in the front door. Before I moved into the house the original owner murdered the previous neighbor for always parking in his driveway. House is cursed to make annoying neighbors I guess.

Edit:I don't know why people keep saying American horror story. NO.

Edit:People keep asking why we didn't lock the door. My mom wasn't much of a mom and we were four young boys who had better things to do than worry about that stuff. Nowadays I'm always locking my door!

I lived in a duplex. The lady who owned the other side traveled a lot and eventually let her friends son move in rent free. She explained that he was a recovering drug addict and she wanted to help him out. He moved in with a few of his friends and it quickly became obvious he wasn't "recovering". They would listen to bass heavy music and smoke crack all night. Over the course of a year, I'd go over once every few weeks and ask them to turn down the music and they would. Then one day everything went south. He showed up at my door asking to borrow some brillo pads because he "had a pan he REALLY needed cleaned". I watched a lot of Cops and knew this was typically used as a filter in crack pipes. I told him I didn't have any and he left. He showed up an hour later and wanted me to make sure I didn't have any brillo pads. In the past he had always been respectful and as normal as a crack addict could be. This particular night something seemed different. He kept telling me how lucky I was to have a wife and a 1 year old and was being overly affectionate. Anyway, I again told him I didn't have any brillo pads and he became furious and left. He went to his side and started blasting his music. I have this thing called a "tire knocker" which is basically just a billy club. I grabbed that and went over to his door. I held the club behind my leg and knocked. He opened the door. I said "I'm sure you know why I'm here". He responded with "F**K YOU AND F**K YOUR FAMILY" and slammed the door in my face. I went back to my side and called the police. They came out, basically told me that there was nothing they could do without the landlords consent, and left. At about 2 am my dog starts freaking out. My place is surrounded by cops banging on his door. I go out and the officers I had spoken to earlier were there. They told me that they had gotten a call that my neighbor had called some of his friends and said he was going to kill himself. They bang on his door for about 2 or 3 minutes and he finally opens it. He tells them he has no interest in killing himself and they just pack up and leave. Nice. So at about 8 the next morning I head out to work leaving my wife and daughter at home. On my drive in my wife calls and says "I'm looking out our front window and there are 2 fireman waving at me to get out of the house". I tell her to go talk to them. She does and calls me back. It turns out my neighbor had doused his entire unit in gasoline, called 911, said he was going to kill himself and the "family and baby next door". (You can get recordings of any 911 call by the way. It was really creepy to hear that). Anyway, fire, ems, police, and a haz mat team show up. They rip out all the carpet from that guys side and open all the windows. They tell us that it won't be safe for us to go into our side for about 3 or 4 days due to the fumes. They take my neighbor (who had doused himself in gasoline as well) to a psych ward and I never heard from him again. We moved about 6 months later.
TL;DR: My neighbor tried to set my family on fire.

When I was a kid we had next door neighbors who were right wing fundamentalist christians, a woman named Charlene and her family. Charlene and the kids had always been just nuts - Charlene used to do things like asking me if she could see one of my toys and then writing stuff about Jesus on it with a crayon, and when I refused to go to their radical fundamentalist church with them (they were always changing churches to try to find one more fundamentalist and more bats**t crazy), Charlene forbade the kids to ever speak to me again and the kids started telling everyone at school that I was a satan worshipper. (Which lead to a bit of awkwardness for a while until everyone else at school figured out that the kids were bats**t crazy.)

Since they couldn't find a church that was insane and restrictive and fundamentalist enough for them, they started a new one... in their house. We discovered this one sunday morning when we woke up to the sound of REALLY LOUD, REALLY BAD christian music coming from their house. Considering the significant space between houses, the fact that our bedrooms were at the far opposite end of our house from theirs, and the fact that our windows faced away into the forest rather than toward their house, the music had to have been quite seriously loud to wake us, but wake us it did. When we looked out the window we found their front lawn was covered with cars, and their driveway, and the street in front out their house... and the street in front of our house, and our driveway.

My dad got up, got dressed, and went over to ask them to please remove all their cars from his property. A few minutes later he came back and explained that they'd told him he was an ungodly minion of the devil and to go away. So he called the cops, who showed up and made everyone move their cars off his property.

The next week, repeat. The cops showed up, but they had someone waiting at the window and as soon as the cop car pulled in, they came RUNNING out the door to get their cars. As soon as the cops left, they came back and parked back in dad's driveway etc.

The next week, repeat. This time we had to shoo people off of driving onto our lawn - we had a stone wall blocking our lawn off from the street, but they were driving around it onto the lawn. Dad completely flipped, because if any of them had driven onto the part over the septic tank they could have collapsed it and cost him tens of thousands of dollars to get it replaced, not to mention making the house uninhabitable while the work was done. They told him he was an ungodly minion of the devil and they'd park wherever they wanted to. I told them I'd scratch the hell out of their cars if they didn't move. (I was a kid - what were they going to do to me?) They moved. We had already called the cops anyway, for the people who had parked on all of the less hazardous parts of the property and run away. After that we had to be up before them every sunday to be ready to run out and stop them from driving onto the lawn.

Dad tried talking to the cops about the fact that they were not, in fact, accomplishing anything for us since they never towed or arrested anyone, but they basically gave him a mealy mouthed excuse about the neighbors' freedom of religion... which basically amounted to "we're not going to do anything against christians."

After a couple months of this my dad went down to town hall and started talking with the people there about the fact that they weren't doing their jobs and that this kept happening and it was starting to look like discrimination in favor of the christians by the town, and explained that he would be talking to his lawyer about a lawsuit against the town, not to mention that if the churchies actually came back and parked on the lawn and collapsed the septic tank, he'd be suing the town for the full value of the house and land because he had repeatedly notified the town about the problem and they refused to do anything about it. He also pointed out things like that there were probably about 80 people in the house next door during their church services, and isn't that a violation of the fire code *and* the zoning? And wouldn't the town be held liable if there was a fire and anyone was injured, since they clearly knew about it and did nothing, knowingly allowing a large crowd of people in a house acting as a church even though it was zoned for strictly residential use?

That sunday the cops came and blocked off the street on either side of our houses so people would have to talk to them instead of leaping into their cars to run away. Tow trucks showed up to remove anyone parked on dad's land. (Not enough, I think they sent about four tow trucks and there were about a dozen cars parked on dad's land.) A fire truck showed up to emphasize the point. Cops and fireman descended on the neighbors' house to order everyone outside, and explained that they could not use the house as a church, that they could not have that many people in the house, that they could not have that many cars on the property, that they were trespassing on our property and would be arrested if they ever came back, that their cars were being towed from our property since they'd been repeatedly warned, that they had violated the zoning and the fire code, etc.

Charlene *lost her mind*. She ran over to our front lawn, stood in front of our house, and started screaming at the top of her lungs about how we're going to hell. You would think she'd tire of this after a minute or two, but she went on and on and on... eventually my dad went out the back door to walk over and talk to the cops, who were next door busily issuing formal orders to the 80 or so churchies that they were not to do any of this stuff to us any more, and told the cops that they were going to remove Charlene from our property, *now* please. The cops tried to argue that she has a first amendment right to religion, but dad pointed out that that doesn't give her the right to express her religion on our front lawn, and demanded that his property right be protected or he'd call his lawyer about starting that lawsuit.

The cops had to actually grab her by the arms and drag her, literally kicking and screaming the entire way, off of dad's property.

A couple days later a real estate sign showed up on their lawn. Charlene's husband - who was a christian but not insane like his wife - told dad she was making him sell the house and move to get away from us ungodly minions of the devil. The new neighbors were much quieter, but would call the ASPCA and tell them I was beating my dog every time he cried because I wasn't there.

I've always wondered what happened to Charlene and the kids.

A few years ago a neighbour two doors down decided to replace a fence. However they felt their back yard wasn't big enough. So they took down their existing fence. They also cut down three medium sized trees that were on the other side of their fence, as in not on their property. Then they built the fence 5 feet onto the neighbours property. They even bolted it to the neighbours house. She was a single mom and a brain and breast cancer survivor who doesn't have a lot of money for litigation. I am assuming they just thought there was nothing she could do about it. When we moved though she did have a lawyer who was helping her. I don't know of the fence has been moved yet.

We own our house but unfortunately the house next door is a rental. We've seen lots of different characters over the years but who probably took the award was the couple that had a fight on their front
lawn during a cookout and ended up throwing raw hamburger at each other. Like smash it in her face while yelling and the run around when she starts hitting back with her own handfuls. I just stood on my porch, mouth agape, and then quietly went back inside in case the crazy was contagious.

This was around 10 years ago. We received a phone call from the police station, saying that our neighbor had filled a complaint. The complaint was that there was a very large pile of dirt and debris on our lawn in the backyard, and it was obstructing our neighbors view out their kitchen window.

Now here's the best part. My family hadn't even moved in yet. We were in the middle of having the house built. It was a new subdivision.

Worst part is - we had a week to have it removed, otherwise we'd be fined. They is actually a bi-law against piles of dirt on your lawn.

Neighbor was a meth head, and his back yard began to fill with his 'collections'. He loved old copy machines and large laser printers; it looked like a technology graveyard. My stuff began to disappear. He NEVER wore a shirt, even in the dead of winter. Came home one day and he had run an extension cord from my garage exterior over the fence-- his power had been cut off. Another day my garden hose was tossed over the fence and he was filling up water bottles. Called the landlord that day who informed me the tenant was his son.

I lived next to a guy and his girlfriend. He sold crack, and she ran girls. **Young** girls. The youngest I talked to was 11. Her mom had her out on "loan" for her crack. The oldest was 14, and there were about 8-10 girls.

There was constant traffic. Foot traffic for the crackheads, super nice cars for the girls. Constant. On top of that the girls would always try to get me to buy them, the girlfriend was scary aggressive about it.

I was sitting watching TV w a friend one night and two crackeads got the wrong apt. MY apt. They refused to believe I had no crack at first, then decided I was a cop. I had to walk them to his door at gunpoint to get them out.

Woke up one night to police everywhere and him screaming and freaking out. They launched a major raid, blocked off the entrances and ran warrent searches and drug dogs on everyone. They had 6 tow trucks and 3 paddy-wagons running, two computer stations at either side of the road running past and stopping every single car. It was huge.

Turns out they had chopped a 14 yo girl (14 or 15 I'm not sure) up alive as an example after she ran. They tossed her in our dumpster.

I moved out the next week. The owner put the apts up for sale. I've got tons of stories about these neighbors over the three months I lived there. They were the worst I've had.

There was an old guy behind named Louie. He was a cranky old fart and had fights with every neighbor. His houses lot was the last on the street and the crossroad where I lived had four lots backed to his side. So he had 6 lots adjacent to him and he fought with them all. When I first moved there I tried to get along, I had been warned. I planted a garden and he oversprayed weed killer over a lot of my plants, including several nice water melon plants. He’d yell at me, he’d yell at my dog, my wife said he was saying obscene stuff to her. One day he called me a fat hillbilly without a pot to piss in. I called him a stupid old goomba (he was Italian) and he acted liked I really hurt his feelings. This went on for years. And he was keeping neighbors agitated as well.

Here’s the good part: one day I was at a flea market type thing and I saw him in his little accessibility cart. I tried to stay away. Suddenly from behind me I heard him say,”Hey aren’t you the guy the guy that lives behind me?” I said yeh and he popped out hand to shake and said how ya doing? And we talked. He was friendly. He told me his wife had a stroke recently and invited me over. I wondering what was going on. That summer he saw me and came out to talk and we chatted I mentioned I played guitar and he jumped and said go get it and I’ll bring the wife to the kitchen and you can play for her. I was stunned. I was shy about playing, but I brought it over and they thought it was wonderful. One day he apologized for being cranky before. I apologized back.

Louie and I were friends the next few years. He’d tell me stories of when he was a kid in the 1920s. Just became a good guy. None of neighbors forgave him but I did. I assumed his doctor gave him Prozac or something. Anyway he died on September 10,2001. The day before the infamy. He was a diabetic and took nitro-glycerin for his heart. Neighbors said he committed suicide, but I knew another guy that couldn’t get his nitro on time and died. I think he had a medical emergency and could not make the call.

About a year before he died, he asked me that if something happened to him to check the door on his lawn shed and make sure it was locked. I checked it. It was locked.

The lady that lives next to my mom is the one of the nicest people I know but there was one instance when we thought she was going to be put in prison for a while. So one summer day my two sisters, my brother and I are in the front yard playing volleyball. Our neighbors brother, maybe 45-50 years old, comes out with his hand covering the blood gushing from his neck and calmly asks us if he can use our phone to call an ambulance. I felt embarrassed because we were all just shocked at what we were seeing that instead of running inside to call the ambulance we just stood there and asked him what happened. Like, "What are you doing bleeding from your neck?". One of my sisters eventually snaps out of it and goes gets the phone. Apparently he and our neighbor got in an argument and she stabbed him with a huge kitchen knife. I think the guy lived because our neighbor didn't go to prison. I'm not exactly sure why he didn't press charges but no one ever mentioned it again. My moms neighbor is still very nice, I invited her to my wedding and she even buys my daughter and niece Christmas and birthday presents. It's so bizarre thinking she once stabbed a guys throat before.

Apparently our responsible manners enraged him and the next thing I knew he was atop my dad strangling him. We got him off easily because he's fat and old + drunk then called the cops.

He spent the night in jail, but didn't remember any of it the next morning. We didn't press charges because we've lived next to him for about 22-23 years and we were fairly good friends. He apologized the next day and has since stopped drinking heavily. (That I know of anyways.)

My neighbor, crazy old b***h. 1 week after buying my house asked me to remove the pile of roofing shingles from the corner of my lot. She asked nice enough, however I informed her that I had a entire kitchen to install, a bathroom to put in (house was stripped when I bought it) and floors that needed redone. I only worked on the house maybe 3-4 hours a day after work. So the shingles weren't too high on my priority list but I was obtaining a roll off dumpster next week and that I'd clean them up when I got the dumpster. (Seriously, where would I put a house worth of used shingles without a dumpster? Somewhere else in my yard?) About three days go buy and she comes over and orders me to remove the shingles from my property corner (still about 10 feet away from her property), because "her dog is eating the shingles and getting sick" (Her dog weighs literally 2 pounds and is named "little bit"). I said "Well, while we're having this discussion of your dog eating shingles on my property, I can fix this for you, keep your dog off of my lawn, for the safety of your dog, I have a 90 pound dog I am bringing when I move in and I don't want your dog to get hurt" She called the police on me. I informed the officers of the dumpster coming in a few days, they asked me to hurry it up, I had to tell them that you can't hurry up a waste management company dropping off a rolloff at a residence as contractors tend to get priority. So he was fine with it. That was enough of that.

That isn't all of it. After two years of living here, she moved her fire ring most of the way onto my property. Still having the snow plow blade on my cub cadet. I pushed it back over into her yard (it was made out of neatly stacked bricks, it became a sloppy pile of bricks and ash when I was done pushing). She got hostile over that as well. Called the police, I called a surveyor friend of a friend over and he came over right away with detailed information about my property. Officer told her to not put anything on my property again and to let me just do my own thing to avoid future confrontation.

And the latest thing she has done. Two weeks ago I planted some nice evergreens about 8 foot off my property line, two rows of them. Mostly to block off the view of her house and to add to the appearance of my property. I am saving money for more trees to transplant onto the back of my property line in much the same fashion but I don't have the holes dug quite yet. So just the two rows of trees on my property between me and my troubled neighbor. I come home from work on thursday and she had called a tree cutting business and said that the property was hers and that her grandson had planted the trees without her permission while she was in the hospital and she wanted them removed. They destroyed my yard and removed all 14 trees. I asked my buddy across the street wtf happened and he gave me the company name. I found said company. They apologized and since the trees were small, they kept them, so they have given me back the trees, the owner of the company is coming out today to help me put them back in himself. Good company, probably suing the neighbor over this one.

*EDIT* F**k this blew up, I was too r******d to check. Been in and out of court, mostly for being rear ended back on mothers day but also one court hearing that got cancelled that was for my case against my b***h neighbor. I think I should be able to sue over someone naming a dog "little bit" but whatever. But I replied and I have updated to what people asked. So you don't have to sift through the replies, basically the b***h had a heart attack a few days after all of her tree removal b******t happened. She's off to a nursing home. Her druggy family is evidently not moving in. The grandson or who ever it was that told me about the heart attack and nursing home and about how she has no money and is living off family is I guess moving in. He seems cool. He drives a newer 5 series BMW so he must not be hurting too bad. Will be nice to have someone other than me in the neighborhood with BMW's.

We had the worst neighbors. Never buy a property with an easement. On this particular evening, the renters next door had a little get together and everyone parked in the driveway. My dad gets ready to head to work so he pays them a visit to kindly ask if they could move some cars. From a distant side of the building, he hears "Hey! F**k you!" Dad turned right around went home and called the cops. 3 underage 1 overage drinking, marijuana and coke found. I repeat, never buy a house with and easement.

What kind of easement? Nearly every property in the U.S. has an easement of some sort. Typically so many feet along the street that is reserved for stuff like widening streets, installing sidewalks, etc.

Our neighbors a while back had two kids. One was a sweet little girl. The other was Damien from the omen, and he was certainly from Hell itself.

Why do I say this? Because, on his four year-old initiative, he made a noose, hanged Curious George by his goddamn plush-filled neck, and then proceeded to beat the living tar out of that doll with a baseball bat. A *real* baseball bat. This kid had physical disabilities as well, and here he was, wielding a f*****g Louiseville f*****g Slugger against a goddamn plush animal that he had hanged, execution style.

The parents divorced and moved away. Thank Jesus I do not have that probable serial killer next door any more.

This is very disturbing. If he's not treated, that kid will grow up to be a psychopath.

My neighbor has only done 3 things but they're 3 pretty big things. So I live at the very edge of a new suburb so there are 4-5 dirt lots behind my house, so there are a few coyotes that live back there. And my neighbor just let her backyard fill with trash and dirt and made a perfect ramp up her back wall. So one day 2 coyotes get in her backyard and decapitated her chihuahua. So she called the police and told them that she swore she saw the dog jump into my yard and it was my dog that did it. I have a French bulldog and Jack Russell, neither of them could ever jump my back wall. Anyway I ended having my bulldog seized and put down for being feral. Next I walked out onto balcony and saw her 2 kids throwing broken glass into my yard and she was on the porch talking on the phone watching. And the last thing that happened is she had this Mexican boyfriend who showed up 4-5 times a week, well anyway one day at 5 am the sheriffs knock on my door, hold up a picture of the guy and ask me to confirm that he lives next door, I say yes and then they ask me to use my house to set up a perimeter. I tell them hell yeah go for it so they set up a frickin SHARPSHOOTER in my bedroom window overlooking her backyard. So I watched them breach her house and drag the 2 of them out and arrest them. Sadly apparently she didn't do anything so she's back home (yay) but her boyfriend is on trial for cartel affiliations. She's the s**ttiest neighbor and parent ever but I 've never seen something as satisfying as her home getting raided.

60 Times People Had "Neighbors From Hell" I lived down the street from a heroin dealer. My house was constantly being robbed by his customers. I forgot to lock my car and they stole my gps, and all my loose change. I didn't lock my shed and they took my lawnmower and gas. I assume they filled their car up, but on the bright side, they returned the can to my shed after using it. If it wasn't locked up, they would steal it, which is why I don't have a bike anymore.
SUPERSTORM Sandy flooded my house with 2 feet of water. My front door wouldn't close because it had swelled from being immersed in water. My neighbors cleaned my house out. They took everything I own. They even went through my attic. They ripped my pjpes out of the wall. They stole my oven, my sink, my furnace, my water heater, my refrigerator, my pavers, my car, my boat, my sports autograph collection with signatures from Willie Mays and Micky Mantle, my guns, but as expected they never even touched my book collection. Back to what they took: my guitars, my video games, my tv, my sleeping bag, my computer, and my coin collection.

The post is 7 years old and also from the OP on the same thread: "I had hurricane insurance, but "Superstorm" Sandy was classifieds as a tropical storm because the average wind velocity was a few MPH less than that of a category I hurricane. So everything lost in the storm was just a loss. The police officer who filled out the report only wrote, "Everything was stolen". That gave me less then desirable evidence in fighting the insurance company who gave me a low-ball offer of 2 grand. That's really low-ball. That's 90 year old man naked low ball. I eventually settled and a church group heard my story and helped rebuild my house even though I'm an atheist. Last I heard is that heroin dealer has Hep C, AIDS, and was living in a hotel. He got away with it, but his life is a lot sadder."

Same thing happened to me. Upstairs neighbors did this 3 times. I had to throw away 3 rugs because the water was gross and brown and it stained them. And that room smells like old musty water. So now I just keep the door closed and don't use the room because I'm so paranoid it's going to happen again.

when i was a teen , my uncle was burning leaves in his yard in a barrel . his neighbor was cleaning out his own garage but must have been bothered by the smoke so he reported him for burning without a permit which resulted in firetrucks and all kinds of c**p , as soon as they left , my uncle painted "YARD SALE" on a piece of plywood and took it to the top of the busy street which resulted in tons of cars and people coming onto this neightbors yard and going thru his belongings while he was trying to clean out his garage .

My neighbor was a woman-hating Vietnam vet. When my fiancé and I first moved in, the neighbor was incredibly taken with him. Always brought up the fact he was gay and would ask if he would help him rebuild the fence between our yards. After things went sour between the fiancé and I, he moved out and I stayed in the house. That's when things got really weird.

After another girl moved in with me he started taking his old, shabby fence down and replacing boards but leaving gaps about five boards wide in the fence. I had two dogs and this house was close to a major road, so we tried to ask him to close the fence but he insisted (yelled, really) that my ex-fiance owed him money and he wouldn't take the money from anyone but him. Then he would "work" on the fence early in the morning, pulling boards off and re-nailing them in difference places.

As this kept up, I have to note he would never speak to any women. I asked my landlord to speak to him, I got male friends to speak to him, every time he said he wouldn't fix the fence and then later it turned in to, "I'll fix the fence if you put kitchen curtains up in that house". Our kitchen overlooked his back yard and was nothing but windows and somehow he felt his privacy was invaded–and also didn't want to see two women walking around in the house. If we were men, he mentioned, it would be okay. We half-complied, putting up some fabric, just because we were annoyed with him. But then he got tired of that, and started using his water hose to hose down our kitchen window AND would hose my dog when he was in the yard. A couple of mornings later, he nailed a sign to his fence that read, "PUT UP KITCHEN CURTAINS".

This went on for nearly a year, him tearing up things he could reach from in my yard, messing with my dog, and standing outside his house giving us these creepy, cold stares from his yard. Until finally, one morning, as he was hammering away at 7:00 am, I peeked out the window to him flipping me off, mouthing a crazy "f**k you." And that's when I gathered all my photo and video evidence of him doing this weird s**t to us and called for an officer who spoke with him about his b******t. He started leaving us alone after that, but I promptly moved out of that house at the first chance I could.

Later I found out speaking with the other neighbors that he was this crazy to the wife until she pulled a gun out on him. Apparently he'll leave you along after that.

tl;dr - I had a woman-hating Vietnam vet find non-illegal ways to harass me and my other female roommate until we finally called the cops on him.

My across the street neighbors genuinely terrify me. I live in a mid to low income subdivision. These people dress in Sunday Best at all times and will every month or two go up and down the street leaving religious literature on doorsteps.

The part that takes them from religious nutters to "I constantly keep my .45 on my desk or by my bed" was the time last year, I had just gotten home from work. I was getting out of my car and walked to the mailbox to collect my bills and spam when I heard one of their little spawn shrieking. The baby pitfiend and mother were getting in to their car (wearing Sunday best as usual) and the Satan spawn was having a bit of a fit as toddlers are want to do. I do not know what prompted the little hellbeast to emit such a shrill cry as to awaken the damned souls that lurk in my back yard but the mother's reply chilled me to the bone. She got down on her knees, shook him a bit until he was looking her dead in the eyes and said in the most hateful tone of voice I have ever heard from anyone human, "Don't make me send you to Jesus."

I booked it in the house post haste. That's when I started to actually be a bit frightened of those neighbors.

This is more of a funny story than a neighbor from hell. But in our apartment, we kept hearing massive bass (think like a rhythm game) starting at like 6 pm to sometimes going till 11 pm, and it sounded like it was localized right above our bedroom. Finally, one night I go up and bang on the door, but they don't answer. About an hour later, I hear moving around in the apartment above me, so I walk out, hoping to catch them either on the stairs or so I can knock on the door again. I go out, and he's walking down the stairs. When he sees me, he asks if I can turn down the bass so he can sleep. It was like the spiderman meme where they are pointing at each other. I told him I thought it was him this entire time. So after we realized it was neither of us, we walked together and found the noise coming from a building two buildings down and it turned out the dude had a drumset in his closet and was rocking out every night. Since we talked to him, we can hear it, but he always stops around 8 pm now. So it could have been way worse if the guy was a d**k.

Our neighbour kept complaining that the plants by the shared fence in our garden were dragging it down and ruining the plants climbing on her side.

You only had to glance at the fence to see that it was massively weighed down on her side - it was sort of a wire fence and it was stretched and bowed on her side so that it practically touched the ground. We had a few plants against the fence on our side but nothing like she did, and yet she kept insisting it must be our fault.

When we moved out, we hired a couple of gardeners to just tidy the garden up a bit for the next tenants. We left them to it and went inside to pack.

When we checked on them later we found that the neighbour had come in and told them to get rid of all of our plants by the fence - which technically belonged to the landlord! - and instead of coming to check with us they just totally ripped out every flower bed along the fence on the say-so of some random stranger.

And of course it made no damn difference to the fence whatsoever.

My parents next door neighbor (who is also my mother's cousin) sued them 3 or 4 times over property disputes and once because his adult son allegedly fell over a decorative rock to prevent said neighbor from parking on my parent's lawn. The guy's house has been condemned but they still live there.

I was told that the apartment across from me had kids but only on every other weekend. So that was a f**king lie. They had their kids there EVERYDAY, ALL DAY. And all these kids did was scream 24/7. The parents would also scream back to them. With the TV permanently set to 90 on the volume. No kids show either. It's one bedroom apartments and they had like 5 kids, including a toodler. Oh how did I know? Their kids tried to get into my apartment. Twice. They eventually skipped out and I got to see the stuff the cleaners had to haul away. There was an adult bed, a crib, and nothing else. These kids were sleeping on hardwood floors every night. When I looked into the bedroom, there was a kid sized hole in the wall. Like someone had picked up and threw a child into the wall. Now I understand why the kids cried all the time.

My below-neighbors are horrible. I live 2nd floor, they 1st.
It all started when i was renovating my apartment and found out that my water pipes are really old and permanently clogged. Without changing them my water pressure is barely enough to take a shower. So i offered them a deal - they let builders into their apartment, in one days time the guys change the pipes and fix the wall, after all, those are their own pipes as well, it will be better for them too.
They made a counter offer - if i f*****g want to do s**t in their apartment, i better pay renovate their whole place. Naturally, I declined, angry, but with a cant-be-helped attitude. They decided that I, by not paying to fix their apartment out of my generosity, have wronged them immensely.
So what they do now, is make sure to pay attention to whether someone is visiting me or leaving and verbally harassing them quite seriously. I have tried to call the police, but they have proved to be of little help.

We just moved from a really low income neighborhood and had some of the "classiest" neighbors around. Below us we had no less than 6 different groups of tenants during our 12 months lease. The first one was a young couple with a young son who seemed really nice and helpful when we first moved in, who even told us about the neighborhood and even told us who we needed to watch out for. The young man worked, drove a loud car, but something always seemed a bit... off. The woman was very quiet, didn't speak much English, but was polite. A few weeks after moving in we started to hear it, the abuse, the late night crying from the woman, him getting home late and yelling at her and calling her names. Then it got worse. He started to yell louder, SCREAMING obscenities, started to hear him slamming things (possibly her or the child) against the walls. We made complaints but since we couldn't tell if the child was there, the security would just show up then leave. This went on for days, until one night it got particularly violent and we couldn't take it anymore and called the police, since we KNEW the child was there that night. The next day it was like they had never even been there, they never came back and their things were gone soon thereafter. After that we had several drug dealers, loud partiers, and other tenants who never paid their rent and were gone within a month.

The worst was the lady across the way, Mamma G. She had at least 5 children who she let run around at all hours of the day, never closed her front door, and spent most of the day on her front porch or in her living room watching her TV loudly. Mamma G made her living by constantly having children with several different (very LOUD) men who she would always be yelling at for child support, and living off the government's paycheck. She was rather proud of this fact and would tell anyone about this. She didn't care about raising her kids and pretty much let them do whatever they pleased. As someone who not only is trying to work to make their way in this world but is struggling with infertility, I really really hated Mamma G and everything she stands for. After several complaints to the office all I was able to do at my time there was get her to have her damn door closed and for a short while they cracked down on her kids running loose since they were darting out in front of cars.

I have never in my life been so glad to move out of a place as I have been from there.

City folk built a "cabin" not 10 feet from ours, that looks like it belongs in the city. I mean we're in a pine forest and every other cabin looks like it belongs there, then there is this giant grey, composite and plastic, prototypical, city house. They couldn't afford their own drive way some how and connected their drive way with ours so we share the same small drive way. Then they put up these r******d fake deer plastic statues, that, again, do not belong in an area where we wake up to deer every morning, and are technically placed in my front yard, too. The f****n' fake deer are scaring the real deer away like some f****n' scarecrow made for deer lovers. It doesn't make sense and it cheapens the ideal "cabin retreat by a lake."

Now that the weather's nice out it sucks because it's hard to have the windows open as my neighbor's cooking ends up stinking up our whole upstairs. I've understood in the past when living in apartment buildings, but this is a townhouse development and I don't know what they're cooking that is that pungeant to just hang in the air outside and waft into all of our open windows. Some days I can't even go into the backyard without walking into a wall of smell.

Him and his family have been the worst neighbors I've ever lived next to for so many reasons, but I've been smelling his cooking now since 7am this morning and it makes me want to rip my nose off.

How about neighbors.

Moved to two very beautiful apartments in Riverview, FL that both became government assistant housing. The first got so bad so quickly, they let me out of my annual lease after only 4-5 months (with deposit). The second one was the nicest apartment complex I've ever lived, and they fought to keep it that way for 2yrs. But eventually, they couldn't keep up with the drugs, crime, and sheer amount of garbage. My god, I've never seen people work so hard to trash a place. It was like the poor were terraforming the entire apartment complex to look like what they were used to.

It was around this time I started becoming a bit racist.
