Some coworkers are just God sent. You make best friends, you fall in love, you meet your idols, you find your team players to climb up that long career ladder with. They make your lunch breaks less lonely, meetings funnier and deadlines… well, the deadlines are the same no matter what.
But sometimes your coworkers are just the opposite. They make doing your job harder than it already is, and everything in between way less enjoyable. If you are dealing with a coworker like that, let me tell you, you are not the only one. There are millions of people out there handling the most annoying, irrational, or even plain evil colleagues because… well, because it's what you’re supposed to do, right?
So if you're too tired to deal with this on your own, this post compiled by Bored Panda is a safe place to vent and talk about hard things. Pull your seat closer and scroll through the stories about coworkers from hell by sharing your own experiences in the comments below!
And when you're done, more stories about difficult coworkers await in our previous features here and here.

No one could breathe. He basically maced the building. We were moved to the other end so we could keep working.
Bored Panda spoke with Christine Mitterbauer, a licensed and ICF-approved career coach and serial entrepreneur who shared some great insights on dealing with difficult coworkers. So pull your seat closer.
Mitterbauer said that “it’s important that you stand your ground and don’t let yourself be intimidated by difficult coworkers, whether they’re negative, talking down to you, or making your work difficult in any other way.”
“Of course, you can try to interact as little as possible with the coworker, but that isn’t always possible,” the career coach added. Moreover, a great skill to practice is becoming better at having difficult conversations, she said.

When dealing with difficult coworkers, always focus on the behavior you would like to address and which is bothering you, and never go down the road of stating negative traits or characteristics about that person, Mitterbauer argues.
“Stick to negative behavior as that’s more objective and can more easily be verified by everyone involved. Practice exactly what you want to say beforehand, and consider getting other allies on board as well. Sometimes it is necessary to involve management, but it’s often better to only do this once you can demonstrate to the manager what you yourself have attempted to tackle the issue,” she explained.
I Work At A Place Where At The End Of Shifts We Split The Tips Evenly Between The 2-3 People That Work
We had more than 50$ of tips today and my coworker had to leave about 10 minutes early. She ended up taking all but ~2.50$ and management won't do anything about it.
That is stealing. She clearly thinks she deserves/needs the money more than her co-workers. What a disgusting person. Something so blatant probably means it is nothing new to her. If she has figured a way to steal from the company she is probably doing that too. Management is stupid.
And this conversation needs to happen in the parking lot. At night. With a suggestion that it never happen again. A stern suggestion. Grrrrrrrrrrrr!
Load More Replies...Let karma deal with it for now. Get a clear box with a lock and key. Make sure it has a slot big enough to put the tips in, but not take out.
I don't get why tips is even a thing in some countries? In Denmark, we don't tip, we just pay decent salaries instead.
Here some states only pay waitresses like $3 an hour. Therefore they're a big deal here
Load More Replies...On another occasion, same restaurant, I made a waiter bring it back after he tried to boast to me about taking the tips, since the kitchen "didn't do anything important", yet when he was asked to clean his reply was always "I'm a waiter, I just take plates from point A to point B" So on the tips incident I insisted he must have made a mistake counting, so he should make sure to bring it back tomorrow or it will be taken from his next pay. He hated me with a passion and I couldn't care less.
Oh they kept doing that at my last workplace. (Small business restaurant) The owner did not care enough to do something, told me to deal with it myself. The "manager" was one of the people stealing tips too. But fortunately she was super lazy and let me handle the register position, do all the closing up, etc. That made me the person that paid those who took cash (almost everyone really). So, I made sure to know how many tips we've had, and redistributed accordingly. After my day off, I was informed that a waitress and that manager took an insane amount the night before, didn't leave a cent for the others, so I cut it off their pay, and had no problem explaining the reason!
Not. Nice. Seems like the next. time she works, her tips should reflect what she took, and given to you all, and then split between everyone. What she did is shameful behavior!
Did you confront that person? Hey I know you had to get out of here and mistakenly took the nights tips before we split them. Can I plz get my part from you.
We had a manager that would help himself to the staff tips, leaving almost nothing. Our uniforms had no pockets so we sewed pouches into the waistbands, kept our own tips and divvied up at the end of the night between the front of house and kitchen staff. Just a few quid was thrown into the tip jar to keep suspicion at bay.
Keep track of future tips, and don't include her cut until she's paid you back.
Also I have never worked as a server and that is what this sounds like. I ask my servers often if they have to split tips with everyone. If yes I personally hand them their tip if possible. I’m tipping for the service I got. Why should a server who had nothing to do with my service get the $ someone else earned?
Clear box with lock. She owes all of you. If mgt does not want to do anything TOGETHER ask mgt to give all of you amount due or ALL OF YOU walk out
To be fair, leaving wide open is pretty stupid in the first place. You are probably getting robbed at least twice a week (the old pretend snatch).
My momma always told me to stick half my tips in my shoe. She also said never split your tips with the cook, and always tip the dishwasher.
This is not as petty as it sounds. But, she may have had a great reason for taking more than her share. Maybe she needed to get some petrol on the way to get her child. Ask her first before you involve the boss. If she keeps it up, quit splitting tips.
If that were really the case, she could have asked or at the very least told her co-workers she needed the money. The very fact that she left without an explanation belies this. Instead, suppose one of her co-workers needed to buy gas?! What an elaborate explanation to disguise the fact that you identify with this behaviour.
Load More Replies...Work in a restaurant? Heh heh...as a restaurant GM, I sometimes find little things my staff "missed" the night before. For example, one morning as I opened the restaurant, I found tables which were clearly not cleaned. Also found food and trash under other tables. Then there was the mop bucket, left overnight with nasty, dirty water complete with mop left stewing in it. Now the gal who closed the night before (she covered for someone else) was also coming in to work her normal day shift this particular morning. Now I'm not an A**hole but, being the "Twisted, Ornery" individual that I am, I proceed to take photos and clean it all up. The tea urns have spigots. I turned the spigots upside down. So the spout is pointing up. She comes in while I was taking a phone order. She checks the coffee and tea to make sure they're made. Her 1st table, 2 Teas. Later, she tells me about the urns. I tell her about what I found. We both got a giggle out of the whole thing.

It's Always A Pleasure To Realize That Your Coworkers Don't Know How To Close A Box Properly... Right When You're Ready To Go Home
Most people have had coworkers they don’t get along with, Mitterbauer continues, but she says there’s a difference between not being great friends and them making your working life miserable. “When their behavior starts affecting your work and/or you are thinking about this issue in your free time, possibly dreading going to work the next day, that’s when it becomes an issue.”

The straight up theft irritates me. If you didn't pay for it then you can't have it unless someone says you can have it. You're actually making it harder for people to pay their bills.
So many of these hurtful "pranks" indicate an extremely unhealthy work environment, with people taking out their despair and hatefulness on their colleagues. Management should take this very seriously and remove these people from the workplace. The human capacity for revenge and retribution is unlimited...these behaviors will spread.
Then again, it may be one of the ways these people choose to lighten up the atmosphere in their stressful work environments. I've found it helpful to avoid assuming the worst of a situation.
Load More Replies...Yup. This list made me mad. That many people sucking is kinda depressing.. considering it's just a drop in the bucket.
The only good thing that came with pandemics was the privilege to work from home. People sucks. Passive-agressive children and pigs like these ones, specially.
The gross cars and personal hygiene issues almost made me puke.... I'm not super a**l about cleanliness, but COME ON
There should be a special place in Hell for some of these people!

Load More Replies...there was once at work someone in the UK didnt want a B day party due to panic attacks when surprise, they did anyways the worker sued them for almost half a million and won.
There was this time I was working in an office and they did a practical joke, covering all my stuff in plastic wrap and tape. When I arrived I just sat there, doing nothing. They were laughing their asses off, but I was just there sitting on my plastic-wrapped chair. Then the manager comes in, laughs for a while, looks at me and says "aren't you gonna take the plastic off?" And I said "are you gonna pay me for the extra task not described in my contract?" Everyone got quiet, then he ordered my coworkers to clean the mess and apologize. I left the job the next day.

She was the only one who came in costume, a popular and cute anime character, she was given an exemplary award while in costume, also got a best in costume award because the boss was actually serious about how everyone should have came in costume.
Some of it is stupid, etc., but when you have a co-worker who does something like some of these CONSTANTLY, every damned day, even after being told not to - yeah, people have a right to be "affronted".
