It really depends on where you live, there are vast differences from state to state on how much emphasis is put on science. I think there are still states that teach how God created the world in 6 days and how the only thing preventing pregnancies is abstinence.

Schooled in the US - I was taught the basic concept of doing a practice round against the virus so your immune system learns exactly how to kill it in the future. However, none of this matters to antivaxers who can just claim that any information they don't like is a product of the government-controlled school/Hollywood/media/illuminati.

You should watch the social dilemma. It explains how, if you are in an area full of ignorant people, even information searched for on the internet will be tailored to the ignorant because that's who is around you. It all comes from people having a ridiculous belief that religion should somehow have anything to do with education. They do teach about vaccines everywhere, but they also allow for regional education to be affected by what ignorant parents want their kids to not learn (i.e. sex-ed, critical thinking, respect and understanding for other people/religions, etc.) There are schools that TEACH creationism. Imagine growing up with parents who don't believe in science, going to a school that teaches creationism as a valid theory, and then typing in climate change and seeing "is a hoax" as the first search because of who lives near you. All hope is lost here.

There has been a sort of anti-science movement in the southern US where some schools can't teach sex ed other than abstinence and there has been a push to not teach evolution, for example. So, while a lot of US schools do teach how vaccines work, there will be some that don't or at least don't do a great job of it.

Most kids in the US don't learn very much because schools are supported by property taxes and most folx are midlin' to poor, which is reflected in their education system. I'm surprised most of them can read, never mind learning about vaccines.

I did - Edited to include that my school is pretty different from regular schools and we (the students) mostly get to choose the science topics we learn about

Honestly I don't recall a single time at school when I was taught about how vaccines works. But I remember TV spots and leaflets pretty much saying that vaccines were to prevent diseases, and I that made sense for me as a kid. I mean, so for my parents. I even recall my mother telling us how her mother would take them in a 2 hours travel to the nearest town (they were from a rural community) to get them vaccinated. I cannot comprehend why people refuse them so vividly
