Ever had anything mansplained to you? You know, when a guy starts explaining something to (most likely) a woman about something that they very well know themselves in a condescending or patronizing way.

Sure, it is definitely a serious issue, one that hints at sexism and rudeness, among other things, but also one that can be satisfying and even funny—particularly when the one being mansplained to claps back with an educated response that makes the mansplainer rethink their decisions.

In celebration of the recent Valentine’s Day, Twitter user @J_Dot_J asked people what was the most obvious thing that was mansplained to them. Dozens upon dozens of people shared their best mansplaining stories, not only voicing their frustrations, but also pointing out how nobody should ever assume that you don’t know things.

Bored Panda has collected some of the best responses from the Twitter thread and made it into a list for you to enjoy. While you’re scrolling, why not share your thoughts and vote on the ones you liked the most, and share your mansplaining stories, if you have any, in the comment section below!

Oh, and if this ain't enough, Bored Panda has two other articles on the topic here and here, so be sure to check them out once you're done here!

Early in our marriage, my husband kept bothering me to play chess, even though I told him I don't enjoy it and didn't want to. He kept insisting and insisting and trying to explain the game to me. I told him I knew HOW to play, I just didn't want to. He just kept on for months. Finally, after about 30 minutes of him explaining his prowess and how to play, again, I agreed to play him. I beat him three times in a row and chess was never mentioned again.

Sorry if I'm missing something, but what are chances that two people who confidently play chess come together for a date and that's exactly how they want to spend their time? And it happened multiple times? Does she date only people who play chess and always invite them to a chess date?

I was wondering the same thing. I don't recall the last time I happened upon a chess set while out for a date.

Considering how rarely you see chess sets just sitting around to be played with in public, or places you go for a first date, i wonder how often that really happened to her. I honestly think this is completely made up.

There must be a chess set sitting around AND her date must be not only able to play chess but also interested enough in it to play it on the first date. Because I'd imagine it's not the most popular date activity.

i mean where do those men live? as a kid I loved chess and Judith Polgar (she was was my idol. Women play at the top tier in world. I mean I remember as kid knowing that Polgar was internationally ranked by age 9, beat her first grandmaster at 11 and at 15 became the youngest grandmaster till that point in history. I grew up idolizing her. How can any man who knows anything about Chess not know about Polgar or ever look down at a woman in chess

I was taught how to play chess by an ex-girlfriend, unfortunately I suck at it, but that isn't a reflection of her skill. I used to love watching her at tournaments!

Honey, if those jerks are so offended by a woman who plays better than they do, they definitely are not worth it. Don't waste your time on guys who only feel good about themselves when they are the smarter than their partners.

Actually, having read the first 25 entries in this article, I get more and more convinced that that the whole "mansplaining" is a huge misunderstanding. I believe that the guys are simply talking to themselves - while someone else (sometimes a woman, an other man, a mirror, whatever) is near them. Like their brain gets triggered to spit out what has been saved on the respective topic. When knew knowledge is added (e.g. by women as described in the stories below) these guys will spit out updated stories during next encounters and will become experts, one day, maybe. Seeing this mansplaining guy as a person talking to himself could be an option. Actually some of the situations happened to me with other women 😲. Respectful communication is tricky ❤️

Um, the thing is, a man would do most of these things to another man. What is being called mansplaining is about 90% what they would say to other men.

To the 'Mansplaining Deniers' out there : The point is that those men make the assumption that the woman knows nothing, without knowing anything about her. When we meet a new person, we could all just assume they are equally intelligent as us.

I got a C in art once for ‘plagiarising’ Devil Wears Prada (had just come out at the time). We had to design a shoe. I made mine into a dragon with a tail going up the leg and scales all over looking like fire. All the work showed it was inspired by Smaug from The Hobbit. The art teacher who was ALSO and English teacher said what’s the hobbit? Who’s Tolkien? Said I was lying and still gave me a C for ‘plagiarising’ Devil Wears Prada 🤦🏼‍♀️

I am 45yrs old and am in full blown menopause. I started peri menopause when I was 38-39yrs old. I had a man child explain menopause and proceed to tell me that it is impossible for a woman to start it that young and to be in menopause at my age. While it is not common it does happen and my last period was actually almost 6yrs ago. He said it was something else and insisted that the Gynecologist was wrong due to her being a woman and I NEED TO SEE A MALE DOCTOR to be correctly diagnosed. I had blood work done and am currently on hormone therapy. Kicker....... this Man/Child was 22yrs old and was going to college for a degree in physical education. LMFAO SMH

I worked for attorneys for 22 years. One time a three-year practicing attorney was looking for a plea on a criminal case. I advised him it's called an Alford plea, he argued with me, continued to try to think of what he believed it's called and then proceeded to get a book to find the answer. Which was. And Alford plea.
