61-year-old Jung Myoung Sook from South Korea has been saving dogs for the last 26 years. So far, she has rescued over 200 pups and takes care of them all. Sook is not well-off, but she not only takes care of strays, she also buys ill-fated pups meant to be sold to restaurants.
“My babies aren’t hungry,” Sook told the Associated Press. “They can play and live freely here. “Some people talk about me, saying, ‘Why is that beggar-like middle-aged woman smiling all the time,’ said Jung. “But I just focus on feeding my babies. I’m happy and healthy.”
Sook gets help from people fascinated with her loving heart. However, she had to move 7 times due to neighbors’ complaints about noise. In South Korea, dogs are still killed for food. They are mostly eaten by the older generation. Only recently they have become more popular as pets.
“My babies aren’t hungry. They can play and live freely here,” says Sook who is raising over 200 dogs she rescued

We need more people like her in this word.
i do support her and i've never had dog meat for my 24years old life as a korean. since thousand years ago, people started to eat it because of poverty which came from devastated land and it became a kind of culture. and as the reporter said its still left nowadays in developed korea in 21C mainly for old gerneration who went through korean war. but let me ask you guys something. don't you feel any sympathy for other animals fot meat? please don't get angry, i just want to know opinion.
I am not Korean, but I wanna ask your same question. Dogs are cute and loyal and all, but so are deers, ducks and other edible animals. So what's all the fuss about dogs? And yes, I am only curious too.
You're right, but who's to say which are edible? Just as bad is the dairy and egg farms

Yes some people don't eat any animals, vegans, others don't see the hypocrisy in loving only dogs and eating others. Pigs, cows etc.....
Because we bond with dogs and cats. We keep them as pets, we get to see their personalities. We rarely spend much time with pigs, cows etc. We don't feel as much of a connection. Makes it easier to turn a blind eye, block it out and not think about it.
I agree. I am not a vegetarian, but wish I could become one. The problem is that I am a picky eater, and probably couldn't live like that.
Leslie, there are many studies and websites showing that you are either lying or unaware of the dog meat trade in South Korea. Do a Google search. http://koreandogs.org/

Her action for love of dogs are wonderful and heroic!! But media and SNS to use this story to get people's extream attention are shame!!! This woman said she obtained the dog On the street for lost or abandoned or bought back from people to care. The media are saying she said " RESCUED FROM SOLD TO MEAT MARKET' Is complete "LYE"!!!!! There are no dog meat market in Korea nor dog meat delicacy restaurant in S skorea.
Hi, i know this comment was made a year ago, but i wanted to add something. It might have something to do with the fact that we co-evolved with dogs over a much longer time than we did other animals, and in a much different capacity. Most animals that we raise for meat were specifically bred for that over hundreds or thousands of years, so that has been our relationship with them and allows people some degree of distance. Dogs co-evolved with us and were eventually bred as companions (for work, for companionship, etc), so i think the reaction is a deep-seated instinctual reaction, even by people who have never had a pet dog, against eating something so essential to who we are as humans and that has been a companion to us for thousands of years.
i feel; sympathy for all animals
Yes, I do feel sympathy for all animals. I'm a vegetarian attempting to transition into vegan. A life is a life to me.
How can I help her? I would like to help support her efforts.
Go vegan. Animals are not for our consumption, amusement or to wear.
Yes I do feel great sympathy for any animals used for meat, and do not eat meat as a result, largely due to inhumane killing methods, and this includes abattoirs, in the western world. I understand also, why people from impoverished countries, started eating dogs. However, the way dogs are bred and killed in 'farms' in Korea, causes me great stress and unhappiness. Dogs are the most loyal, intelligent, and wonderful companions, and to subject them to such a life is inhumane.
It is with handled with dignity I hope !?
Because dogs are domesticated animals who are loving, faithful and highly intelligents creatures. They have shown great devotion to their owners and have given their lives for their owners in many cases. They have come to trust humans and have been a mans best friend for ages. No animals should be slaughtered for food when people could be vegetarians but killing a dog to satisfy ones apetite for delicacy is unforgivable.
I still can't believe how some Asian restaurants have dog meat on their menu! Bless this woman for doing what she's doing! Just cannot picture those dogs she's saved on a dinner plate - how revolting!
