I’m not gonna lie, this made me tear up! For a middle schooler to keep all those notes really showed that she appreciated all of them at such a young age. Sometimes stepparents don’t get enough credit for stepping in but this proved to him that she loves him too! Love his reaction!!! I’m not crying, You are! 💕😭

I love crochet but sometimes it makes me want to tear my hair out. I don't know how it can be meditative when you have to pay constant close attention or you completely screw up the pattern. Ladies who say they crochet while watching TV mystify me. What exactly are they "watching" that they can crochet at the same time? Knitting is even harder for me and would give me a heart attack, I'm sure.

This is truly beautiful! To anyone who says that immigrants and refugees do not contribute to their adoptive homeland , I really want you to stare long and hard and these photos. Remember that your ancestors were likely immigrants, migrants, or refugees at one point or another.

I love this story because mine is very similar. I was born in a refugee camp along with 3 siblings. My parents came to the states with $0. I was the first in the family to graduate with a BS and then an MA. I was a police officer and now I am an elementary school teacher. My siblings all now have degrees and are productive members of the society. All these negative comments shows just how entitled some born citizens are. It's easy to talk trash when you were raised in privilege.

Forbes list also suggests “taking advantage of found time,” “supporting your local favorite businesses,” “sending gifts in the mails.” It’s also a perfect moment to practice random acts of kindness as seen in this post. The heroes who don’t wear capes are people just like you and me, and if we can learn something from them is that it doesn’t take whole lot to do good.

Commuters Wiped Away Anti-Semitic Graffiti They Found On A Subway Train. Within About Two Minutes, All The Symbolism Was Gone

"I got on the subway in Manhattan tonight and found a swastika on every advertisement and every window. The train was silent as everyone stared at each other, uncomfortable and unsure what to do.
One guy got up and said, "Hand sanitizer gets rid of Sharpie. We need alcohol." He found some tissues and got to work.
I've never seen so many people simultaneously reach into their bags and pockets looking for tissues and Purel."

I think it's more about how he did it himself in his nice clothes, instead of yelling for someone else to come help. Like obviously you're not gonna let the kid drown, but to jump in without a second thought to preserving your dignity is a sign of character. Like the story of the Good Samaritan.

A Hero Can Be Anyone, No Special Powers Needed

A Hero Can Be Anyone, No Special Powers Needed

Wanted to give a shout-out to this girl. No idea who she is, but we are in Wrigleyville on the rooftop of Old Crow Smokehouse. There was a blind Cubs fan trying to hail a cab for several minutes until the lady came up and asked him if he needed help hailing a cab. She stood there with him until one pulled up. Awesome to see such kindness in a world that the media portrays so much hate in. Share freely in hopes that her kindness spreads.

This is beautiful, I myself own a duplex home in Miami two units both rented out. They are struggling just like the rest of world is now. Before they got to tell me I told not to worry about paying me rent for the next 5 months! And not to worry about back pay it's ok. And before you ask no I'm not rich and no I don't got it like it that. But growing up in the south Bronx I knew what it was to struggle and have nothing. It's the least I could do I wish I could do more for my tenants but at least they don't have to worry about losing their homes!! Pay it forward I love my fellow man and woman! Always be kind and always show love!! Everyone stay safe!

My dad was like that. When I was growing up he loved playing with all my friends. We had a garage attached to our house (not all houses in our estate did) he would organise a party in our garage every Halloween and would bring out our old record player ( it was the early 80's) and play the music. At work he was the one who came up with the idea and organised for the company to have a Christmas party for all the kids of the people who worked there. He even organised a Santa and bought all the presents for 300 or more kids. He did the same for the kids on our estate, hiring out places for a Christmas party for us and organising a Santa and presents for us. He even rented out a reel of cartoons for the weekend ( the company's party was always on a Saturday and the estate party the next day). He even put his skills into helping organising my birthday parties. The best part is, he LOVED it. he was the biggest kid there. He was brilliant.

My 88 year old Dad used to play baseball for the Pittsburgh Pirates. When he was younger, the neighbor kids would knock on our door to ask if he would come out and hit some balls with them. I have memories of him doing this and giving the kids pointers on how to be better players.

My friend has four strays out back of her pet boutique. Her elderly father built them a shelter out of totes (1 bigger than the other.) Cut out U-shapes on the side, put one inside the other..put foam in between and popped the lids on before turning them upside down and stuffing them with blankets. Happy to say those kitties have been nice and warm now for about 3 years......

As a parent you are supposed to love your children unconditionally, not love them so long as they fit into the mould you think they should. I think the OP showed her parents exactly how kind, compassionate and loving towards them she is by keeping them in her life for a further 5 years after their initial reaction. She seems to be a great person despite her parents x

Woman Holds And Comforts A Homeless Man Experiencing Medical And Emotional Distress On The Subway Platform Until EMS Arrives

A few people actively helped out here, making sure he was ok, giving medical advice, and calling 911, but this woman's compassion and ability to comfort him during a scary time was so heartwarming. I don't know when the last time this man was held and cared for physically like this; it could have been decades, and her immediate reaction to comfort him, help him put his shoes on, etc. was so genuine

Exactly! Everyone dotes on stray animals...takes them in, cares for them, but walks right past a human being in need of help!

See, this is why it’s good I don’t have children because of all the trauma I might cause if I had a child who believed this. I would totally be placing her toys inches from her face whilst she slept so she’d wake up with a toy staring at her in the face. Or gather them up while she’s in the bathroom and place them in different positions to where they were originally lol

my cousin used to do this to me when we were growing up. She gathered all my barbies & surrounded them around me and when i woke up, she told me that they were mad at me. She constantly moved my stuffies around so freak me out. My mom bought me a "my size doll" and she had red hair...my cousin then told me that she was Chucky's sister and was going to kill me in my sleep. I made my mom get rid of the damn thing. To this day, i have a phobia of dolls.

I think that must be the bride's mother. She's looking shocked and is wondering how the stepdad will react, so perhaps she's not aware of the plan. I don't know the story behind this, but I suspect he may have helped to raise the bride for a few years, for her to include him in this. He looks so moved. What a wonderful, blended family they must be.

Yesterday we passed a dead bird and a live bird standing over it. My husband turned the car around, parked next to the birds, and kinda shooed the live bird off the road far into the grass so it didn't get run over like other bird. Then we watched and made sure it went farther in the grass and not back in the road. A few months ago we rehabbed a hawk that temporarily could notfly.

My uncle received a heart transplant after he was past the age they’d normally give someone a new organ. But they just happened to have a heart that was below the threshold for a younger patient. That has been well over a decade ago, and as far as I know he’s still going strong. Under normal circumstances, he volunteers at the local police department doing part of their social media.

My friend's 23-y/o daughter's heart stopped. She was in the hospital and had already decided if her procedure wasn't successful that she wanted everything possible donated. Her mom told me that almost every part of her body was able to be used for restorative procedures for burn victims, cancer patients who'd had large muscles removed, organs, nail beds from feet and hands, eyebrows-scalp-eyelashes, eyes, inner and outer ear structures, bone marrow, cartilage, nerve tissue, blood, plasma, intestines -- everything except the kidneys that had failed.

People should be more patient with others who don't fluently speak their language; they're trying and learning and achieving fluency in a language is difficult!

Right? I studied Russian at school for five years and all I know is most of the alphabet, how to count to ten and probably three basic questions to ask. Just because English is the most widely spoken language doesn’t mean it’s easy for a non-native speaker to learn.

As someone who works with language and limited proficiency English speakers, this makes me so happy. I get so angry at people who make fun of other people who are attempting to learn their language.

I've met so many wonderful drivers on Lyft/Uber. Some of them are up-front about still learning to speak English fluently, and that they couldn't get hired at other jobs. A driver from Serbia in his 60s had been in the U.S. for a couple of years. He had flash cards with questions on them and asked "If I wanted to play." All I had to do to win a beautiful pastry and cold bottle of juice was critique his answers and pronunciation.

I was lucky I grew up traveling internationally, I learned 2 languages at the same time, this wired my brain to pick up new languages pretty quickly. The down side is that if I don't use the language, I don't retain it for long, although certain phrases do stick in my brain. I understand how hard it is to learn a new language and feel comfortable using it. For a while I worked in a machine shop. We had people who where born in the USA, Eastern Europe, Spain and Mexico. Of course everybody was friendly, but when they were in groups with other from their country they would speak their birth languages. We had several women (who were "American"). They would complain "We are in America everybody should speak English". It took me a bit to figure it out. They were upset for 2 reasons: 1) They could not be nosy and eavesdrop. 2) They were afraid the "foreigners" were talking about them.

I ran out of room: I believe that most people who are "upset" by someone speaking a language they don't understand come from a place of fear.

This reminds me of my mother. My cat had to come with me on weekends at her house because she was a diabetic and got 2 shots a day. This was the dialog I heard one Saturday morning. "You should get down from my lap." pause "I don't like cats." pause "I have things to do." Now add the visual. The cat is walking back and forth across her lap, and she petting her with long sweeps while she complains.

As a smoker, I gotta say that it really is easy to extinguish a cig, smush then fold the butt flat, AND STORE IT IN YOUR PACK OR POCKET until you find a trash can/ash tray to dispose of it properly. There's no need to dirty up the planet more than it already is.

My hero. As a smoker, I am very conscientious of where my smoke is going so as not to offend others or set off allergies or asthma attacks. I also learned many years ago that one cigarette filter can kill an entire family of birds, so I always tear the filters off & put them in a pocket or in my purse. Just because I smoke doesn't mean I have to behave like a mongrel.

My wife and I were stopping at the store to get dinner, and I saw an older gentleman laid down in the road in front of the store, so I pulled over and rushed to his side. Another guy was next to him checking his pulse and said he couldn’t find it, so we pulled him out of the road, and immediately begin chest compressions. The two of us worked on him for about five minutes or so while a whole bunch of onlookers just stood there. The paramedics finally arrived and took over, and after shocking him several times and what felt like a lifetime, were able to stabilize him, and get him to the hospital. A police officer came over and told us he had a massive heart attack

It is a graduation requirement for my son's High School to learn CPR. I think it should be taught and reviewed on a regular basis throughout school and beyond. What's more important than saving someone's life?

My high school had this a part of our driver’s education class. I haven’t been certified since. They’ve also changed the procedure a bit. I remember some basics but I really ought to get refreshed.

Same thing happened to my daughter. Our house burnt down 3 years ago. She was only in kindergarten and only 2 days later the school called for us to pick up her "school work" and the entire office was filled with all kinds on donations. We couldn't hide our emotions. The most humbling experience of my life. I will never be the same.. in a good way :)

We had a fantastic German language Professor in college named Deiter. We were always laughing in his class and we all looked forward to it. There were two older sisters in the class (in their 40's.) One was an accountant and the other was an opera singer. They made him a poster that included a poem in which key words like "snicker" and "mounds" were replaced with candy bars of the same name...taped to the poster. We also collected money from everyone and I was tasked with finding a present. Luckily, there was a Bavarian style tourist town about an hour away. I drove there and found a crystal stein with a schooner engraved on it. He loved it all!!! I miss German class!

Humans bred them to be this way. Dogs have no other option on how to be. Humans who abuse them suck all the more because the dog won’t likely rebel... per hundreds or thousands of years of breeding.

Except the restrictions are based on hard data regarding risk factors, even when the data is unpopular. They've accepted making some people feel bad to reduce the likelihood of accidentally giving someone a potentially fatal illness.

I am truly sorry for your loss. It must have taken a lot of courage to say that. My hope going forward is that people recognize the importance of mental and emotional health, as well as the utilization of different love languages. If you don't mind, what can we do to support others who have lost loved ones, especially at such a tender, young age? My heart goes out to you, and thank for being so brave to share how difficult and painful it was/is for you.

When I worked at Amerigas...I learned of a couple that comes in every Christmas and donates a propane tank refill to a family in need. We aren't talking ten gallons by any means...we're talking 500 gallon tanks. I remembered earlier that week, a young woman raising 3 kids on her own, on the phone with my boss bawling that she'd lost her job and was out of money to refill the tank before winter. When this couple walked in, she immediately knew who she was putting forth for the donation.

This is wonderful, but your fish needs a much, much bigger aquarium

The fish in question is a "Betta splendens" better known as a fighting fish. Large aquariums are detrimental to their health.

My Mother does something similar. She is part of a quilting group called The Yeats Country Quilters’ named after famed Irish poet W.B Yeats are based in Drumcliffe, Co. Sligo Ireland which she founded . She came up with the idea of making little quilts for premature and sick babies at our local hospital and the other ladies of the group make them too. They all buy the material with their own money and everything to make the quilts with and donate them all for free. The parents of the babies are allowed to keep the quilt after. Some babies who sadly didn't make it were buried with the quilt or their parents kept it as a keepsake. There is a short article here all about it and their work with the hospital. My mother is the 3rd from the right in the purple sweater. I am so proud of her. Especially after she did all this after recovering from a stroke. https://ehospice.com/ireland_posts/keepsake-quilts-for-bereaved-parents/

He said he wants to open a gym for people with injuries like his so he can show them that, just because all your limbs aren't there, doesn't mean you can't be strong and do a proper workout. It will be a no judgement zone and everyone is welcome.

My Dad Enjoying His Last Trip To The Place Where His Parents Met

He slowly lost energy to live due to pain and becoming paralyzed from the waist down. It was a long and painful road, but thanks to a charity here in the Netherlands we got to give him one last trip to a place he had never been but always wanted to. It's Called "De Keukenhof". It's a grand garden with all kinds of flowers. He really loved flowers and nature in general, so it was quite funny he never went there, bonus points were that was also the place his parents met each other.

Australian Paramedics Took This Man Specifically To The Hospital That His Wife Was Being Treated At After Learning That He Hadn’t Been Able To See Her For A While

Australian Paramedics Took This Man Specifically To The Hospital That His Wife Was Being Treated At After Learning That He Hadn’t Been Able To See Her For A While

When paramedics responded to a Macleay Island home last week on Valentine’s Day Eve, they were greeted by 100-year-old veteran David. Officers soon learned that he usually lives independently with his 94-year-old wife, however, he hadn’t seen her in some time as she was being treated in a mainland hospital.
The paramedics decided that a visit was long overdue, and although David's injury required transportation to a different Brisbane hospital, the paramedics sought permission to conduct a surprise visit to his wife’s ward in Redland's Hospital along the way.
Of course, officers knew better than to turn up empty-handed and first helped David pick up a bouquet of flowers.

I don’t remember a single case of this kind of reinforcement from my parents in my whole life. Only the reverse. Certainly they must have done it at some point, but the message I was left with was definitely that I never did enough or did well enough.

Hey, babies cry and people need to stop being so annoyed about it. The parents of the baby are always way stressed about bringing a baby on a flight and taking care of them. As great as this is, people should not expect a goody bag (not that they are but,) when a baby is on a flight.
