I was friends with a volunteer firefighter who saved a child about this age in a raging fire that took lives. It took days before they realized the sacrifice and joy of this one particular action.

I honestly need more completely good, and downright amazing stories in my life. It is a total tragedy, but someone saved/protected another's life. Things happen when they are bad you want people like this. Police, firefights, and paramedics do not get enough "thank you"s.

One of mynfriends has a 3 year old who was diagnosed 7 months (when he was 2) with cancer in his kidney. Itbhas since spread and he now has tumors in his brain, legs and a few other places. About 12 hours ago he was rushed again into hospital as a previous tumor on his shoulder looksblikebitbhas come back, or that it has spread to his bones. All Ibwant for Leo and his family is for him to ring that bell, but it is a very long road and mught not happen.

I will keep your friend, their son, and you all in my thoughts. Childhood cancer is a terrible thing. A very good friend of mine has had multiple types of cancer 3-4 times since she was a child and she keeps kicking its butt every time, she's in her 30s now!

7 Years Ago She Said "Yes" To Me With This $500 Fruity Pebble Of A Diamond When I Was Broke. I Make $200k Now. I Surprised Her With An Upgrade For Valentine's Day

She said to return it, that "anything else would be a downgrade" because of what this little dot means to her. So I am returning this $8k upgrade and I'm taking her to Korea and Japan this winter instead for the same price.

I fully understand her. The first ring is the one which symbolizes all the memories and their unique moments of loving relationship. The second one is just a shiny piece of jewellery with no further meaning. Make many happy memories on your vacation!

I actually have a similar story with my fiance. I just gave him a random ring I had at home and didn't even know where it came from back in the day, as a symbolism so he knows I won't give him up despite all the issues and can always look at it when he feels bad. I've recently offered to buy him a better ring made of dinosaur bone (he likes dinos), but he declined because the random ring means more to him

Similar situation for us - when we became engaged, we were both in college and there was very little money. He bought me a small solitaire engagement ring, and after 42 years of marriage, it's still the one I wear every day. He has 'threatened' over the years to buy me an upgrade, but don't want anything big and flashy. The ring I wore when I married him IS my wedding ring, and can't be replaced.

One important reason why we, as humans, love wholesome content is because it helps build and reinforce hope. Psychologists really can’t overstate just how crucial it is for us to feel like there is a chance the future will be better. Interestingly, researchers have also found a connection between hope and creativity.

After all, making something new means committing to the possibility that his unknown thing will turn out well. Positive thinking, which can be toxic in a few instances, ultimately helps keep our minds active and helps us maintain our desire to keep trying.

I am so sorry of your loss. I am really glad that you found the video ❤️. I hope it gives you comfort in difficult times. I lost my mother too when I was 19, and I would really love if there was a recording of her somewhere with her voice. If I try hard enough, I can still imagine it, but after nearly 20 years, it’s getting difficult.

One important part of hope isn't just “teaching” us about the possibility that good things can happen, it’s reminding us that they have happened. Unfortunately, our brains can be a bit selective with what they remember, leading to us “conveniently” forgetting the good things we’ve gone through and just focusing on the bad.

From OP on Reddit: "She was born with an abnormality in her brain that caused her to have up to 80 seizures a day before they found the right meds or up to 20 a day with strong meds. The best course of action was to remove the abnormality that was causing these. We’ve waited months and been so worried and stressed but everything went well and she’s proven everyone just how strong she really is. - They managed to remove exactly what they needed to and have checked with multiple MRIs. - She is on a lot of pain relief but hasn’t had a single seizure since her surgery. This is the first time in months she has been seizure free for even a day!"

I have a friend who got into a terrible car accident a couple years ago on her 16th birthday. Medical professionals use a scale from 1-5 to describe going unconscious from a head injury. My friend went a 5, which equals if you’re lucky enough to survive you’re going to be a vegetable for the rest of your life. She woke up after two weeks! Two years later, I celebrated her 18th birthday with her a couple weeks ago and she is head injury free after a miraculous recovery! God is good! God bless those doctors!

It is important to remember that hope can be problematic in large “doses” as some people, overwhelmed by positive emotions, can start to develop unrealistic goals and expectations, which will just come to harm them in the long run. This is why real stories are important, but they need to be “tempered” with the help of a specialist, like a therapist, if a person is really going through a depressive spell.

Researchers have also established a pretty strong connection between hope and not just mental health, but physical as well. People dealing with recovery after injury and illness tend to always do better if they demonstrate or report feelings of hope, versus feelings of intermittent sadness. So when you are looking at a list of wholesome images, perhaps bookmark it for a rainy day, it could actually help.

I've had the pleasure of saving baby squirrels whose parents fled when their home was destroyed by felling trees. Feedings were 'round the clock, but when the day of their release finally came, it was all worth it.

I also have a self love ring ❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜🤎🖤🩶🤍🩷! After decades of struggling with low self esteem and insecurity, 8 years ago I decided to make a change. I made a promise to myself to learn and prioritize self-love. I gave myself a ring to seal that promise. It's been an interesting journey with ups and downs, but now I can say comfortably that I love myself sooo much ✨! Love to everyone out there.

I like to imagine getting admitted to hospital but on your way in you get scanned. 5-10 good boys and girls are waiting to greet you. Depending on the doggo nose scan you get sent to the correct ward

Misdiagnoses that ended in institutional living, made by arrogant doctors who dared you to disagree with their expert opinion, was more common than most know. But considering that up until 19999, these "experts" thought babies under age one didn't feel pain, I think more patients should question their opinions.

My parent did something similar. After the birth, I was placed in a hospital for terminally ill newborns, where "they waiting to die". My parents visited me every weekend and when they saw I was getting better, after 9 months they took me home. I realize that it was hard for them, but they taught me how to be independent very early and I did naturally without any issues.

I have a few bits of my dad's writing from after his accident. His brain damage was catastrophic, but for the first few years after he came out of his coma, he could still write a word or two. He had multiple strokes after that, and died 21 years after his accident. I lost "my dad" on the day of his accident, but I treasure each bit I have left of him from before - and after - his accident.

I think there was just rare, my old school hard-a$$ math teacher took extra time to teach his detention kids long division and chess. I don't think I would have graduated HS If he didn't take his time and explain basic math to me. This was 4th grade thank you Mr. Hamrin

As a teacher, I always allowed students in middle school to rewrite an assignment and get the higher grade if they wanted. It's about learning, not an "I gotcha" moment. I said before I handed out any assignment that was graded.

When I was in grade 5, I could not fraction fractions. Kept the workbook. One night, in grade 8, the penny dropped. Did what was left of the book in 2 nights, after homework, etc. More than half the book wasn't done. Had my mother check it. 100%. Sometimes a brain just isn't ready for the info or it needs to be explained differently. Kudos to this teacher. I wish mine had been like this.

Kids probably were happy too to 1) see mom so happy and 2) go to NASA and see a rocket launch and eat lunch with an astronaut. I like Disney but I would’ve LOVED such an experience at any age, including now as an adult and even more as a kid.

FYI regarding cats capturing, but not killing, smaller animals. Don't simply release them if there's a chance of a tooth or claw puncture because you'll be condemning the poor thing to a hideous infection and death. Any scratches/punctures need to be cleaned and watched before releasing.

When my s sister does the dishes, she will leave them in the sink to dry over night. In the morning when I get up, I will try to put them away for her before she gets up. Or after we get d9ne eating, I will clean the table off. Just try to help out in little ways like that.

They look like ducks - however, technically depending on what poultry enthusiast you speak too, Muscovy ducklings are often referred too as goslings and are sometimes put into the goose category over duck categories. Something to do with their “quack” (or non existing quack).

Sadly it's not all ways about money. I had braces and when they took them off I had a hole develope on a front canine. My adoptive female parent was pissed so left it for over 2 years. I finally was able to fix it once I moved out at 17. Abuse sucks

Hell yeah!! My teeth were jacked, and we were beyond poor. My photography teacher asked my mom if it would be too embarrassing to offer me dental care. Eight teeth removed, and two years of braces. I have never missed an opportunity to smile, since. Greatest gift I've ever received. You've got this. Licking your teeth when those cages come off is the best feeling ever.

Advice: bite on something firm after you get your braces tightened. (Apple slice without skin, for example.) This will help the teeth move more quickly and be less painful.

Good for OP! We were too poor for dental care when I was a kid too. My ex-husband and I made enough money for me to get braces, but he said it was silly to spend that much money on someone my age (I'm in my 50s). When I left him, I added the cost of Invisalign to the amount I requested as a settlement. I'm SO happy with how my teeth look now! I don't hate to smile for photos anymore.

Honestly, I HATE that orthodontics are only covered by dental insurance in the US until someone is a teen, when a lot of people who had braces as children have to have them again as adults because impacted wisdom teeth can completely wreck all that work. My sister had to have braces 3 times in her life, twice as a child and finally as an adult after wisdom teeth surgery,. They realigned her bite and it changed her whole face for the better! I had braces just on my bottom teeth, but may as well not have because my wisdom teeth pushed them back!

OP's friend sent him a framed developer's (someone who helps make software, in this case the video game Halo) copy (showing he helped make it). Even during our most high pressure and stressful work periods my colleagues will make time to pose for a photo and some of the more creative ones have set up mini photo shoots. We aren't a perfect bunch and we rub each other the wrong way at times but if my youngest sends a Teddy in to help and look after me you bet your @ss I have volunteers asking have I got enough photos yet??

My grandson forgot his toy kitty at our house. My husband was about to leave the country to visit other family, so he took the toy with him. Lots of pictures of it in different places and with extended family. When he got home, I made a story from the kitty's point of view, ending with me leaving out a box addressed to my grandson. "And she hopped right in!" that was the last photo in the little self published book, and the box had the toy kitty and the book in it. I'm told he asked mom, "Did the kitty write this or did grandma?" Lol

It's the simple little acts of kindness and compassion, when you think no one can see, that shows true character

Lol. I ALWAYS crawl in with my adult son for a few minutes unbeknownst to him when he visits. He said I am weird therefore I find this reassuring.

An uncle of mine had a cat who loved to sleep on his stretched arm, all night long. His wife made him a wool sleeve so he did not feel cold during the winter. He did not dare to move!

In my family, this is what grown kids do. The come home to parents, full of intention of talking, or helping cook, or watching movies, or playing a game. Then they melt into the abyss of parent's house and fall asleep somewhere for hours, undisturbed by house sounds, and wake covered in family pets.
