Thank you for legitimising me doing this for my daughters mother, and her for me. Despite both of us now being in long term relationships we continue to instil this.
That's really cool Doug! Many in my family are divorce lawyers and the reality is that the majority of the time both parents are using the children to score points. Depressing as hell.
Load More Replies...Amazing father wish my parents had been like this after their divorce but they did not set a good example ( not really when they were married either)
I wish all parents who get divorced could be like this. Just able to do things and get along and not fight and argue all the time. While a marriage may not work out, being able to still be friends and raise their children together.
When we help others, we actually help ourselves. Showing kindness fills our lives with happiness, improves our well-being and can even lengthen the time we have on Earth. Many researchers have been looking into the “helper’s high” and the effects it has on our physical and emotional health.
In one study, Dr. Stephen G. Post, a researcher, opinion leader, and best-selling author, wrote that “evidence for the benefits of giving is now extremely powerful, and suggests that healthcare professionals might wish to recommend such activities to patients.”
For more than 20 years, he has been promoting the idea of “give and live better” and studying altruism, generosity and kindness. Acting in good conscience appears to be an important factor for us to lead meaningful and satisfying lives because when we engage in kind acts, we reduce our own stress. Altruistic emotions—the “helper’s high”—seem to gain dominance over the stress response, Post told WebMD.
This is excellent news! Congratulations to your daughter and your entire family. We all share the joy, so dance and we're all there applauding in spirit.
To me, dance was freedom. I hope she enjoys herself as much as you will!
I am so happy for your family and may she dance the rest of her life.
“Studies of telomeres—the end-caps of our genes—show that long-term stress can shorten those end-caps, and shortened end-caps are linked with early death,” he explained.
“These studies indicate that we’re dealing with something that’s extremely powerful. Ultimately, the process of cultivating a positive emotional state through pro-social behaviors—being generous—may lengthen your life.”
Though similar ones existed, they were expensive and required refrigeration. Dasia's use beet juice which she noticed in a common lab experiment changes color in reaction to Ph. Infections cause such a change and she put two and two together. Her suture do not need refrigeration which is a HUGE plus for places in the world with limited access to it. And oh yea, they're cheap and easy to make.
The need to do good comes from a simple fact that we humans are a social species. Our ability to be altruistic derived from the bonds we create with others: since people benefit from social support they receive, it’s no surprise that evolution would provide us with the capacity to give social support.
“Humans have evolved to be caring and helpful to those around us, largely to ensure our survival,” Post said. “In Darwin’s Descent of Man, he mentions survival of the fittest only twice. He mentions benevolence 99 times.”
We need more of these stories out on the media instead of the constant bad news only.
The bin men who used to do our round were made up of a double PhD, another with a MSc in Physics and a former high-up banker. All had suffered mental illness because of stress in their proffession and had independently chosen to be bin-men.
Adorbs! But I cannot believe such a fine a** dude does not have a line of people bringing him baked goods on his B-day!
Bin-men here make a good wage but they still deserve respect of course, I always take a crate of beers out for them every Christmas, plus I leave my rubbish very tidy for them and they like that, they always place my recycling boxes down neat when they're done, the messy houses just get their boxes thrown in a random place.
When you see your friends and family assisting and helping out their loved ones or sometimes even complete strangers, you can’t help but feel the urge to do good too. According to research, simply watching someone else do the honorable thing inspires us as well.
There’s a study showing that when we witness kindness, we experience an uplifting feeling and become encouraged to act more altruistic ourselves. Psychological scientists Simone Schnall, Jean Roper and Daniel M.T. Fessler performed two experiments trying to find out whether feelings of elevation, evoked by observing another person perform a good deed, motivate us to help others.
This completely reinforces my long-held and heartfelt belief that happiness is its own reward

Great, now I'm imagining someone with a bathrobe with tennis ball print allover laughing maniacally while hiding next to the window :D
Load More Replies...I know this is not the point at all, but... omg, tennis court! I've been thinking for a long time about where I can take my dog to run off-leash without ending up in the next town or in front of a car, and *TENNIS COURT*!!! That's the best idea ever, I'm so happy 😁😁
U could also try a dog park if your dog is friendly

Fantastic! Can just imagine the look of confusion on both their faces..lol
This made me well up as much as call the midwife does. EDIT: Upset now because it's all a lie!
Load More Replies...This is a cute (and often reposted) story but is sadly simply not true. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/transfusion-confusion/ The red flag in this story is a hospital running out of O negative blood.
More upvotes for you needed SS, I <3 that you fact checked. .... indeed a cute story... but nothing more than that, a story, not a true event.
Load More Replies...This isn't true (see other comments with links), plus think just for one second - how HORRIBLY are the adults in the situation managing this, when at no point during the explanation to the boy they didn't reassure him in any way? Any adult explaining blood donation to a small child would say something like "And we take a little blood, and you'll hardly feel it, and your body will make more in a few days". There's no way they just say "It's a matter of life and death" and leave it there. Stories like this annoy me. There are so many TRUE great stories; stop making up glurge.
I am so glad this story is not true. My thought when I first read the story is that the adults bungled the explanation so badly that the poor little boy thought they were telling him that his sister's life was more important than his.
Can someone delete this or mark it accordingly in the title of the story
If the story has been debunked? Sorry, posted too quickly.
Load More Replies...In the first experiment, 59 participants were recruited and asked to watch two short videos. One group looked at a clip from The Oprah Winfrey Show while the other watched a neutral nature documentary. After the viewing, they received a receipt asking if they would be willing to take part in an additional, unpaid, study.
The results showed that people who experienced “elevation were more likely to volunteer for a subsequent unpaid study than were participants in a neutral state.”
I have colleague who very strictly keeps with the fast, and it's really difficult. At work they made quiet corner for him with sofa, where he can lay when he's tired through the day when he can't eat. Usually just lays for 10 mins and goes back. So I can imagine that these beautiful acts meant very much and that's awesome that people like that exist.
Food is love, sharing food is sharing love, when people fast, they have to go without that love for a time, and the act of showing you love them by respecting their faith and sharing your love is beautiful
In 2016 when Drump was elected, I went to a protest held at a Muslim center. Many people got to say something, but I remember a Muslim woman saying we should pray for him. More compassion than I had....
At the college where I work we keep track of the Muslim fasts so we can watch out for anyone who has health issues. Sometimes tempers can be short when the day is long, so we go the extra mile to be patient.
I hope you then had him crawl in next to you and said something along the lines of “you are the reason I am never so sad that I *need* an emergency hug, but I’m always happy to accept one because of how much I love you!
I lost my mum last year and it breaks my heart still but kids are amazing and they just help so much with they're love
You should be proud of that young man. We all need hugs in good times and bad.
36 students participated in the second experiment where they not only looked at a short clip but were also asked to do a 30-minute task. However, the experimenter “couldn’t” open the needed file and told the students that they were free to leave. When people got up, she asked whether they would be willing to complete another, unrelated task.
She “noted that the questionnaire was, unfortunately, rather boring, emphasizing that the participant was under no obligation” and could stop whenever they wanted, but that completing any number of the items would greatly assist the experimenter. People in the elevation condition spent roughly twice as much time on the questionnaire as participants in the other groups.
A very positive effect. They could hang up a photo of their Nan with the dog, but why spoil the joy of love at first sight?
This is an awesome story that proves life is not that movie stereotype. More of these stories help the world feel that much gentler.
I suspect those movie stereotypes are part of the reason why meanness perpetuates.
Load More Replies...My sons last year in High School, the Coach of the football team had "try outs" for the water boy position and my son was selected to fill the position. He was picked on and teased most of the time in school, so when he got to be part of the team, the rest of the players looked out for him and the bullies understood he was off limits. He enjoyed being a part of something like that and I appreciated those young men giving him an example of what it takes to be a decent person.
High School is weird. I went to one High School and got into a lot of fights and moved to another and got a lot of friends. My second High School was really big and had about 4000 students. I think the bigger the school the less the importance of cliques.
I think that might be somewhat the case. One of my newer friends I met this year just moved to my school last year, and he said that at his old school (which was smaller) they had a lot more violence and fights all the time. At this school, it’s definitely not all sunshine and rainbows but he’s in a vocal group with me and we have definitely made sure he knows he is accepted and safe with us in this school.
Load More Replies...Wow! This, sadly, is not the norm! What a difference they'll make when out in the world.
This is unbelievably awesome. I've a boy with autism who spends a certain amount of hours a week in a mainstream class. His autism only affects his behaviour. I was so moved when one day at pick up a load of mainstream kids were saying bye to him and to have a nice day and some stopped to chat with him. Kids can be so cruel at times but seeing this was wonderful.
Both experiments provided convincing evidence that elevation, awakened by learning of another person’s good deeds, leads to selfless behavior. A kind gesture, no matter how small, creates something positive in this world. Looking at wholesome stories people share not only gives us a warm and fuzzy feeling inside but inspires us to be better as well.
No, not so much. If there are 2 same size crabs, they will push each other until one of them wins and the other stays with the same shell.
Load More Replies...That certainly didn’t happen on David Attenborough’s Blue Planet series! I saw crabs tussling over a vacant shell that would put the WWE to shame!
I can just imagine “Excuse me, does this shell fit? No? Well how about you try this one and I’ll try that one..oh hello, you’re after a shell too? Oh okay well you try this one and I’ll try the next..” and so on down the line..
Why did I read this in a Queen's English accent? Lol

Congratulations!!! I am so glad you have a home of your own. So happy you made your childhood dream come true.
I understand, when I walk in my home I know that it's happy to see me, that there is no one there who doesn't want me.
Also grew up in the system. Next to the day I got married, the day I bought my house is the proudest day of my life. I feel you man. There is no congratulations big enough to honor you today. You are a king!
Wasting your time? what a piece of runny s**t that guy must of been. Even if there is no chance, what heartless human garbage would say that?
Dude... Why take it there? Doctors in these roles have to be able to detach from life or death situations so they don't fall apart every time they lose a patient. It's totally possible the colleague was just trying to protect the OP.
Load More Replies...My best friend's son who was born with several health issues was told by the doctor that he wouldn't live to one. She kicked him to the curb and sent birthday cards to him every year until turned 18. he is now 33.
I'm glad she is healthy and thriving and the parents did what they needed to do. It angers me that the parents were told they were wasting their time. My daughter was very sick when she was born and the delivery doctor told my husband not half our later that he should start making arrangements for her funeral. This was 18 years ago and she is in her first year of University. Thank goodness for the NICU doctor that put the delivery doctor in his place.
My nephew was born 3 months early and they didnt expect him to make it. He is now 24 years old and one of the kindest and coolest people I know.
Stuck in a NICU for three weeks, rotating out with the mother and father of a beautiful premature girl with Downs. Brought to tears by the nurse telling me the other 100 babies were rarely visited by families (maybe a drop in once a day or week), and she was impressed we were always there. I mean who just trusts strangers with a baby for a month or two? We had to ask that two separate nurses to not attend us because they lied or were mean to us.
I know... they seem to have gotten me too...

You didn't have to write that letter but you did. You made that woman's day. You are a good person for sure. Sorry for your loss.
My sister is a hairdresser and has been her whole life. I know the magic she does everyday to many. Looking great = feeling great. I love my Sisser
This is beautiful. I just dried my eyes from the other post and now here I am sobbing again.
Thanks, sobbing now. My poor husband was so alarmed and confused, but now he's just shushing me and petting my hair.
Go watch the video on YouTube. It'll break your heart and make you smile at the same time.
What an incredibly kind thing for the recipient to do. I cannot imagine the father's loss, however.
Oh this one got me, trying not to wake anyone up with my snotty crying
It's an old Buddhist thing too. How the Dalai Lama is chosen..they usually lay out a blanket with objects on it and wait to see what is chosen. Amongst the items is usually a beloved item of the previous Dalai Lama. If the person chooses that item, then they may become the next Dalai Lama.
Buddhist? Well, I'll take your word for it. But this habit has also been in my country (Romania) for more than a century. When babies turn 1 year old, their godparents visit them to cut a tuft of their hair and they place on a tray several objects out of which the child chooses three. Our parents told us that my brother (who recently retired from the army, took a toy gun, my sister (a real jack-of-all-trades - or should I change it into jane-of-all-trades?) ran with the tray and I got the book and the pen, nothing else interested me - and I am a teacher. Funny, isn't it?
Load More Replies...We do it here too, in India, and while my kids both went towards money as wee ones, I know both of them want their mum and dad more now❤️
I'm crying right now and there is nothing wrong with feeling this that deeply. Let us all cry for any reason and never feel that we have to hide it with onions. It's okay to cry, anytime. :)
Or, out here in the civilised World (me in the UK) - nothing, nada, zip (this also goes for most treatments and drugs for most of the population). Yes, we pay a bit more in taxes, but the benefits for everyone way, way outweigh the cost, plus I've never heard of anyone having to go bankrupt because of healthcare costs - unlike in the US.
Load More Replies...Except we can get it to under $10 a dose if we change one single paragraph in US Patten Law, on medications that keep it this high in the US. This doesnt solve the problem, only the symptom. We can lower drug costs in the US across the board if we just literally changed one paragraph in one section of US Law.
Not sure it matters if it's a paragraph, a single word, a comma, or pages of US Patent law. Still needs to go through the same process and nothing like that is ready, unlike the BBB. I know you consider it problematic and anyone who endorses it is a "rube," but it would in fact help a ton of diabetics afford their life-saving medication and I for one am willing to put up with whatever is in there you say enables corruption, as the corruption is clearly already happening and these people need help now. But I've never been one to say don't help the people who need it because somewhere else someone undeserving is going to get something out of it. I also strongly disagree that the BBB is "literally the problem." Maybe it's a problem and maybe it isn't (I haven't read the text of the act), but with respect to this issue, it is quite literally a solution.
Load More Replies...SO glad to live in the UK where healthcare is free for everyone and medicine is capped at around $50 for three months' supply of anything.
And every Republican (and DINOs Manchin & Sinema) voted against it being a Federal statute.
Great work. It should be free, signed a self-described dirty, liberal socialist from another country.
Type 1 here. It's amazing what we have to pay to LIVE!!! This isn't even a medication that improves quality of life ..it is necessary for life. Worked at a pharmacy before and I've seen people having to put back life saving medication so they can eat or make rent. It's disgusting and disturbing that people have to make these choices. When I talk about this I usually get a whole lot of not my problem... People Socialist / communist because I believe we should care for our fellow humans and they should care for us. God forbid one of their loved ones had to deal with something like this. I wouldn't wish it on my greatest enemy.
I believe Mr. Smitten did well at his internship and will quickly become a partner.
As an electrician in house can completely agree, dogs, cats, even a marauding hamster. One caveat cats follow you into the loft and under the floor so requiring rescue, but no complaints. ;o)
When I got the bathroom redone, I told them the cat would watch them and tell them when the work didn't meet his standards. He yelled at them a lot. But when it came time to paint the living room, he just talked to them.
My moms cat is the same way. Looves "worker guys" n is ADIMENT to help them. Only time she didnt like them was when they redid the bathroom (her favorite room). She loves it now but first 2 weeks she wouldnt step paw in there n just looked upset n betrayed xD
Imagine how funny it is to find out someone's a cat person in ways like this.
Why would you 'hate' someone who can do something better than you can? Skill differences present learning opportunities.
Pretty sure the point is that they have the same job so they were rivals, but now they work together.

My cats used to wait at the door for me too. They seemed to always know when I would arrive home.
Everyday 3 furry little kitties greet me at the door with howls of love and cuddles. Best part of my entire day, every friggin day.
I loved this photo so much, when I saw it posted before, that I made a miniature copy to hang in my Doll's House entry.... I love animals and this brings a smile! Thanks for sharing!
My cat used to wait by the back door for my brother to get home from work. One week, he was out of town and she still waited for him at the same time every day. When he got home, the cat gave him heck because he didn’t tell her he was leaving. 🤣
The police in Bristol, UK did the same. The lady they "arrested" was so happy.
HAHAHA, I'd add to my bucket list if it hadn't already happened. hehehe

What a beautiful and kind response from James. To the girl, you are perfect and beautiful. Embrace yourself in self love

"Is that a kitty? Well I hope you've brought enough for the whole class!"
I've had the same experience with my colleagues and manager the other day when we were in a work meeting. Everyone (including myself) showed their cat and for 30 minutes that was all the conversation was about. I had a sh*tload of work to do so I accidentally blurred out "well, we have all showed eachother our pussies now, let's get on with the meeting". It went quietly for a moment and then my manager spit out his coffee all over his laptop laughing. Thank God he could laugh about that remark 😶
My grandmother couldn't communicate anymore in her last years. The last months she just sat in her wheelchair or lying in bed, but when I walked in with my son you could tell she was so happy to see him. She kept looking at him and then there came a twinkle in her eyes. My grandma was already ill when my son was born and never really understood that it was her grandson but she loved him so much.
My great grandmother died when I was 2/12, and few of our family members visited because she looked so bad. I was told that when we visited, I would climb on the bed, and stroke her hand. She would respond to my touch. She died before my 3rd birthday. I was her namesake. RIP
Both of my grandmothers have dementia. Mom’s mom is 103 on Boxing Day, and Dad’s mom is 92 in March. It’s sad to see to sharp minds slowly deteriorating. My hope & prayer is that their final years are as painless as possible.
My mom has dementia and it is an incredible curse. I had no idea, you can get it this young. her parents manage it much better than mine.

Grief is like that sometimes. You're going along, and then it hits you out of nowhere.
The path of my life is a thin trail through tall grasses and bushes. Grief is a hole in that path. It's deep and in a dark part of the bushes, and I slip and fall into it. It hurts and I can't get out. Over time I begin clearing the bushes back to give me space to walk around that hole in yhe path of my life. More time goes by and I've put down pavers and a little wall and a bench to contemplate my loss. Though it's rare now, sometimes I still fall in by accident. And sometimes, now, I fall in on purpose.

I have felt that as well. My husband and my life long best friend died a year apart. It took me three years to stop automatically going to text them when setting happened. I had a miscarriage just before my husband died. Years later I'm in a relationship and finally had a healthy pregnancy and a beautiful boy. He was a month early but he made it and he's beautiful and so big now, not like the teeny boy he was. I've never been religious but I can't help but to feel like one or both of them helped me get to where I am now.

this could be very true. my long time vet has been with me through having to make that inevitable decision. the last time i got ready to take in lucy i was going through some serious health issues and she perked up and seemed to be okay. once i started to feel better she started to decline. when i took her in to let her go my vet was glad to see me better and then told me that it isn't unusual for pets to hang on for their owners and i had to tell her it was okay to go. i got down on the floor with her, thanked her for sharing her life with me, and she curled up in my arms. by the time the vet returned with the 'juice' she had slipped into a coma and left on her own accord. when she walked into the vet's office she looked/acted fine. but, after telling her it was okay she seemed to just melt.
Such a beautiful soul. That dog knew what was happening. Tremendous loss.
Animals are so intuitive. My mother's dog grieved himself to death after her death.
I agree animals have so much love and they understand a lot of what is going on .I have had animals all my life and when one passes I evently will get another thinking this one will never replace the one I lost but they do in so many ways

You are so right. Our local sushi stall inside a supermarket (not usually where you’d expect to find quality sushi) makes superb sushi, unusual outside the box stuff. Can't we just use the word? Death is an inevitable part of life and if people are traumatised by that word they are probably going to be traumatised by any comments section. Also, possibly just me, but 'passed gas' is a common euphemism for farting and I don't like to think of my nan spontaneously vanishing in a cloud of methane.

I was so confused because I thought she died giving birth so the last sentence didn't make sense but then I realised she died being born. Amazing story ❤
She was the baby being birthed and stopped breathing. As in her mom was giving birth to her, and the doctors resuscitated her. So she did indeed die during childbirth, her own birth.

When I was like five years old. I gave my dad a 1cent penny wrapped up for his birthday. Years later when he passed away I discovered that he had carried that penny in his wallet for almost 60 years. I still miss you dad!
Back around 1966, my grandmother sent me and my 3 siblings outside to find a four leaf clover for her (probably just to get us out of her hair for a few minutes). I laid down in a patch of clover and the FIRST one I saw had 4 leaves. I brought it in the house and asked her what she wanted us to do next. She stared at that 4 leaf clover in disbelief. When she passed in 1994, that 4 leaf clover was in her wallet. I love you and miss you so much, my dear Mammie.
OMG I love this! This should definitely be a thing. We should set up a petition for a national holiday!
I would of asked her to come to dinner then. Parents who lose children often feel very alone. I know.
My mom died two years ago in 19 days. I keep getting e-mails from 'Catherine'. Of course it isn't her, but my heart catches a little every time I see it.
Random acts that show the true Spirit of Christmas. So happy to hear you've experienced it too!!
You really made her day, probably something she will remember fondly for the rest of her life.

I could have made this post. My son has said this more than once in his life. He's 19 and still holds my hand in public, hugs and kisses me. He's never once not told me he loves me when he gets out of the car...even in high school. I love him so.
My ex was like this (we broke up because we wanted different things in life, not because of drama). It was one of his most attractive qualities to call his mother and sister every other day and telling them he loved them. Nothing sexier than a man who is unashamed and unafraid of showing affection to the people he holds dear
Not heartwarming, but funny ... at least for me. I once brought my son his gym clothes to school, because he'd left them at home (he was around 14 or 15). He was standing in front of the gym with some of his classmates, when I arrived. After he took his gym bag, he thanked me and gave me a quick kiss on the cheek. One of his "friends" made fun of it. My son just said: You have a problem? Although ... I wouldn't want to kiss someone like YOUR mother either.
Couple years ago, I was helping my teen daughter look for her phone. We roamed the house while I called it. I found it. The screen said- Mom- my role model before I even knew what the words meant. There may have been tears.
Shortly after my son came home for the Naval Academy at Christmas his first year, he said to my, while laying down on the couch watching tv, he looked up at me as I passed by and said "Mom, have I ever thanked you for raising me the way you did?" - tears hit me whenever I think of that. Especially now that he's been gone 15 yrs.
Aww I’m sorry he’s gone. Sounds like you had a beautiful relationship. Thank you for sharing.

My kids always say "I love you dad" to me before they leave for school or go to bed. I say the same. I tell my wife I love her before she leaves or before we go to bed. I tell my best friend that I love him. I tell my cousin that I love her. When my grandparents were alive, I said "I love you" as well. It's just being human.
am 30 and give my mom grey hair whenever I can but when that old lady that drives me up the wall when we spend more than two days around each other needs something I am in my car and there. In church I always hold her hand and in public she has to lock into my arms so I am sure she doesn't fall or get hurt
My son ALWAYS tells me he loves me not matter where we are or who's around.
my son has done this too, he worded it a bit different, "I'm sorry your don't love your moms but I do" lol. After that all his buddy's will yell "Love you" to me if they hear me in the background. It's so cute.
I'm pretty sure he'd do it anyway... but what a great thing to be able to share it

Person without children and without the intent to make any in the future here. I totally agree, and I'd be proud to help such a dedicated teacher. It's people like this who help children grow into good people.

I told him one morning that the eggs I cracked open where all double yolks. He said "That's awesome! What did you do with them?" I said "I ate them." And he, being vegan, said "That's disgusting." LOL
See! This is just one of the many reasons why teachers deserve more pay.

"I hope them cigarettes are gonna make you cough! I hope you hear this song and it pissed you off." I love Spin Doctors!
My mother always told me I'd amount to nothing. I spent 24 years with the Army, made rank quickly. I then spent 20 years in technology at a local community college. I was the plaintiff in a lawsuit that resulted in same-sex marriages being recognized in our state. I own a house that I bought myself - something she never had, even when my stepfather was alive. I now have three retirements and live comfortably, for someone who wasn’t going to amount to anything. I always said that my successes in life were attributable to her, because I always, ALWAYS worked to prove her wrong.
How can parents allow such vile step monsters into their children's lives?
My mom had low self esteem and truly believed my step-dad would eventually step up and be a help rather than a burden. She eventually learned to love herself and left his a**. I'm thankful every day and don't blame her for her mistakes because she did see the light evenrually.

This doesn't sound healthy at all. It's great they keep in touch but calling every day? Three years later? What is the family going to do when the girl chooses to move on? This sounds like unprocessed grief that should be dealt with.
Maybe she came from foster homes or her family is abusive. Those of us from abusive home have chosen family. It’s much healthier than where we came from.
Load More Replies...People like this are amazing. My grandma is very ill and all the family is taking turns to take care of her and cheer her. Including my uncle and aunt in law who would not be expected to do it. Specially her since my uncle passed away. I love them and my grand is really grateful for it.
Seems like she just adopted herself into the family. My nephew (21) just broke up with a girl who did the same - she practically lived with him at my sister's house and was going to spend Christmas with us, instead of her own family (not normal in our culture until marriage or kids - whichever comes first). Now everything is super awkward, because the girl is still so attached to my sister and the rest of the family, and is constantly messaging them.
I read "choose your parents wisely" first and was very confused to say the least.
Honestly... that's a bit weird, I mean the daily calls. Being in touch with the family is really okay, don't misunderstand me.
It's called friendship. Just because she may one day go on to love someone else there is no reason to to give up on that friendship.

The Christmas Magic never dies but changes state. When you are young you are the recipient and the magic is the receiving of Christmas wonder. As you get older and learn certain truths, you get indoctrinated and become involved in the conspiracy of Christmas and feel the excitement of invoking the Christmas magic as you are trained for the next stage... The creator of Christmas magic where you have your own kids, and you get to enjoy the excitement on your kids faces over Christmas and then there is the final stage. The grand chronicler of Christmas magic where you pass onto your grandkids the mysteries of Christmas and enjoy the awe in their eyes, setting the stage for the parents and older kids to make the magic grow

That's what we do in my house. My boys each got 3 presents from Santa and the rest were from friends and family.

I would not be surprised if one day, we can buy a bottle of little pink pills promising to restore our waning ability to love. The serotonin or dopamine or whatever that needs tweaking, that has been associated with the physical effects falling in love produces, is no available all over the internet. They come with an assortment of chocolates. The chaser in this case. The baby batches that arrive daily, are all basically a blank slate. An unlimited capacity on their hard drive hold the secret to life. A good cray, a good meal, a good bowel movement and a good sleep. Love is the one they cultivate or let die. The symbiosis of cultivating that love is the circle of life that can get so screwed up along the way.
Self-awareness is rare even in people who don't have any mental disability that makes it harder for them. Let's strive to be like this man.
I worked as security at a hospital and a elderly dementia patient walked up and slapped me across the face and attempted to close fist punch me in the head several times. His wife and daughter came the next day with a HUGE bunch of flowers and chocolates. I couldn't accept. Most of the time he is a darling, but I feel it's not his fault that the dementia part of his brain sees red. The nurses and admin team loved the choc's and the flowers looked great at the reception desk.
It's very good that he apologized - even as someone with anger issues and other mental health issues, I don't believe that mental health problems are automatically a free pass to treat someone horribly. While mental health problems can be an explanation for behavior, they shouldn't be treated as an excuse, and it's important to make up for your behavior when you know you've upset someone (even if it was beyond your control).
I'm sorry to hear this. I hope one day you can safely get away from him. I know what it's like to be in an abusive relationship my heart goes out to you.

Wow, my childhood and current life would have been so much easier if my parents did this. They always felt like they had to fix everything that was wrong but a lot of the time I just needed to talk about it. These kids are lucky to have a parent who figured this out.
AMEN!!! More of us need to learn that lesson - especially men who tend to want to 'help' because they feel as tho they were asked to when in fact they just should have offered to 'listen'.

One of my great aunts. Whenever she looked after us (nieces and nephews), when holidays and parental work collide, would take us to town to get a small something and a treat dinner somewhere. Did this once; husband and I caught some hard-core punk/goth kids busting out to Part of Your World from The Little Mermaid. We grinned at then and when they saw they were caught, we threw up the horns and started singing along with them, overacting the lyrics and cracking them up.

I don't know what they must have thought about some busted ass farm ute pulling over, and some tiny girl in her 20's sitting on a hot pink seat cover offering to save them from their beers, all the while 'One Jump Ahead' from Aladdin (1992) blasts in the back ground.

Excitedly, she took it to school to show her friends and tell them about the tooth fairy coming. She lost her tooth at school and came home sobbing and worried that the tooth fairy would be sad and not have a tooth to swap money for. That night, as she slept I put an envelope under her pillow saying "Don't cry. We tooth fairies are very good at finding lost teeth. We found your tooth by the wooden elephant's trunk at school. Please accept our gift and buy yourself an extra special treat" I did it in fancy writing and I put in £5. She was so excited and happy! She bought a new tooth brush and bubblegum flavour toothpaste, so the tooth fairy would get awesome teeth as the baby teeth fell out, She is nearly 18 now and still has that letter somewhere. She obviously knows it was me but treasures it.
My mom gave me all my baby teeth when I got older from the fairy. It was weird to have but I always appreciate it
Load More Replies...Well kid, you need to report your tooth to the Tooth Fairy's secretary. And only adults have the secretary's phone number. The Tooth Fairy is not a mind reader, sheesh.
Whenever I lost a tooth, it was usually a dollar under the pillow the next morning. One time, I found $20 under my pillow. I rushed into the kitchen where my parents were making breakfast "LOOK WHAT THE TOOTH FAIRY LEFT!" My mom said "Boy, the tooth fairy sure was generous" as she glanced over at my dad. My dad replied "Probably because it was dark and the tooth fairy couldn't see what he was pulling out of his wallet."
Kid did well to hide a tooth falling out, but "parents need to call the tooth fairy, they're not psychic!"
Another thing we actually don't know if kid and granddad as well actually already knew about the fact that kid maybe wasn't allowed to eat outside of meal plan. So the way I interpreted it was: Dad being overly unnecessarily strict/micromanaging. Grandpa and kid are easy going. Pa gives sweets and kid knows he's not supposed to eat it and puts sweets in the drawer next to bed and still be happy Pa thought of him? Kids aren't always that stupid...

I still can't get my head around the fact that in the USA it's considered bad manners or borderline immoral to take days off and even having the gall to enjoy them. But what's most confusing to me is that employers have every right to fire people for taking days off.
Worked at a place which literally had to remind us we needed to take longer lunch breaks than we did, take our holidays before year end and stop working weekends, we each loved our jobs so much, it was a fantastic place to work in. The boss was so happy with our dedication he paid us for extra hours and holidays we didn't take, fond memories ❤️
Kids observe, immitate and repeat stuff you never dream they would. For example when I'm really tired, feet hurt, i wiggle my toes and bend my feet in trying to make them more 'not sure of the word' my give year old son will go over come and pull at my toes, my feet are big for his hand so. He saw my dad do this to my mum when she was tired ❤️
Grandpas do be like that. Mine always supported my musical endeavors with trumpet playing and singing and I once had to record a chair test and send it in and he set up a whole professional camera and microphone set up in his basement for me to record, and sat back the whole time whispering to my mom saying stuff like “she’s real good”. He’d joke about me becoming famous and he was truly my #1 fan. I’m really gonna miss him.

I worked for them many years ago. We had an agreement with the teachers to cover some books for the less fortunate. Scholastic REALLY does want books in the kids hands. I can not tell you about all of the times we helped schools who had all the money stolen, or all of the books stolen or trashed.
Can we combine SBF with Friends of Library used book sales to maximize the effect?
I've always told my son that, no matter how broke we are, I will always buy him books because they are teaching tools...even fictional novels (a lot of research goes into those books sometimes.) Once the books were read, we'd donate them to the local school or library for other kids to read. Pass on knowledge...donate your books.
This is such a kind thing, growing up in poverty things like this really rubbed salt in the wounds, I’d take the fliers home and read the book blurbs obsessively. Libraries rock but it’s really not the same.
The look in a kids face that now actually OWNS a book they want is priceless. Many of these kids no longer have libraries that are open to them. Parents who wont do the library because " I can not afford it if you lose that book." I personally attended a book give away for kids that are extremely underprivileged. Most of them had no access to libraries and that was BEFORE most of them have been closed due to lack of funding. You do generously donate to your inner cities library , right?
