I think both of my grandmas are the cutest women on the planet. They always make sure I’m well fed, support me in whatever crazy endeavors I choose to pursue, and they are both hilarious. As both of those amazing women have shown me, we can learn a lot from our elders, like how to make the world’s best lemon bars, how to be a great parent, how to play dominoes and apparently: how to be wholesome.
Below, we’ve got one of the sweetest lists Bored Panda has ever seen, featuring photos of some of the coolest and kindest senior citizens out there. Be sure to upvote all of the photos that you find most wholesome, and then let us know in the comments what you have learned from the elders in your life.

My Grandma Hand Drew All Her Wrapping Paper
That is soo pretty! I could never have the level of skill your Grandma does! You rock Grandma!
I would 100 percent frame. Then After a few years take a picture of all them together and have them and have that picture.turned into a quilt.

I'd never know what's inside because it's too special to open. The wrap is THE GIFT!
As you will see on this list, older people are the best. With age comes wisdom, and apparently for a lot of people, with age also comes happiness. According to one study published in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, the older we get, the better our mental health becomes. Rates of depression, anxiety, and stress were highest among participants in their 20s and 30s, and the oldest participants reported the highest levels of happiness, satisfaction and wellbeing.
The study’s author, Dr. Dilip Jeste, a geriatric psychiatrist and directors of the Center on Healthy Aging at the University of California, San Diego, says that when we’re young, “There is constant peer pressure: you’re looking at others and always feeling bad that you’re not succeeding like some of them, and you feel like you have lots of choices but you’re not really making use of them.” But as we get older, perhaps we just stop worrying about that. The pressure is off, and we finally get to simply enjoy our lives.
My 82-Year-Old Grandad Sends Me A Valentines Card Every Year. His Writing Is Getting Worse Because Of His Tremor, But He Always Insists On Writing It Himself
Yes, who the hell is chopping onions at this time of the morning
Load More Replies...❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ ps- would love to send your Grandad a card.
My grandfather used to write us letters and birthday cards by hand. In every one he'd apologize for his handwriting. He soon stopped writing them by hand and used his typewriter. This pic reminded me of him. Rest in peace grampa, I've always loved your handwriting, shaky or not
When my Grams passed away my Gramps took over Birthday card duty. He sent me the cutest little card. I turned 20 something and he sent me a cute "little girl" BD card.

I'm sure going to "UP"-vote this post... I'll see myself out... 🎈🏠
He should hold on to that handrail, cause the house is going UP
Many of the individuals featured on this list are clearly making the most of their senior years. And while there is sometimes a stereotype that our youngest years are our prime time, that does not have to be true. Our retired years can be a great time to see the world, experiment with hobbies we haven’t had the time to nurture in recent years, socialize and spend time with our families. They can also be a great time to stop caring about what anybody else thinks.
While young people are often plagued with feeling pressure fit in, older individuals are likely to just accept who they are. They have realized that the opinions of others don’t matter, and they have learned how to embrace their true selves. Sure, ideally we would all come to that conclusion at a young age, but sometimes it can be hard to realize until we’ve been around the block for a few years. Then we can spend our final decades enjoying life and doing whatever we like without any fear of embarrassment or judgment from others.

Do you think the dog can tell she doesn't remember him? (Regardless, I bet they're both enjoying every moment together!)
This Couple Is Simply Too Cute Together
Uncle David (Uncle Bear Bear) on the left recently died after a long illness. They were together for decades, always dressing like twins. Uncle David on the right sings beautifully and is a loving and kind gentleman working through his grief. They have lots of ducks and chickens and call all their followers niblings, as in nieces and nephews. You can find Uncle David on IG.
Here’s the account, I believe of the man on the right. https://www.instagram.com/david.k.north/

No!😭I just checked to see which one it was. It’s the one on the left who made the pudding.

I recall this. They have some sort of magical (or at least that's how I remember it) garden or something similar in their back yard. Handsome gents.
"- David, are you wearing David's shirt again ? - Oh, he's fine with it, he's wearing mine actually".
I had an Uncle David. If I had have two Uncle Davids that would have been so amazing!!!
To gain some insight on why senior citizens are so special and must be cherished, we reached out to William Zee, one of the creators of We Love Our Granny, a site dedicated to seniors of every age. First, we asked William what inspired him to create the site. “We started weloveourgranny.com when our own mother became quite elderly,” he told Bored Panda. “As we searched for products and services that would help the very elderly live more comfortably, and, with a higher life enjoyment, we found there were literally tens of thousands of Americans who were in their twilight years who weren’t really enjoying life at all anymore.”
“This greatly saddened us,” William continued. “These are the people who devoted their lives to giving all of us a good life. Our goal? We wanted to see what we could do, in any small way, to increase the well being of other elderly seniors. In very short order, we found, as a society, we generally do put seniors ‘out to pasture’. Even the young and vital ones.”
“Our goal soon became: Finding ways to make senior life happier and more fulfilling,” William explained. “Regardless of how old we may be. 60 or 100. We’re happy to report: From the wonderful emails we receive, we are making a difference.”

My Grandmother Turned 100 Last October, This Is Her Doing The Plank For 30 Seconds
Some people are just made of steel. My grandmother can still touch the floor standing with straight legs and she's 86. When my greataunt was close to and over 100 she still cooked lunch for her two sons every day (they work close to her house) she has a freezer full of cakes, cinnamon buns, cookies etc. though she'll always insist that she has nothing home to offer if you stop by for coffee, then she'll proceed to literally stuff you full with delicious sweets. Her sons swithed her central heating from wood burner to pellets to spare her the work so instead she went over to her neighbour to help out with their wood since she missed the work. She has calmed down a bit now, but not that much. Though non of my older relatives is fit enough to do the plank.
That’s The Power Of Grandma
If anyone has our back in life, it's grandmas! Grandmas will throw down!
Better yet, relocate Grandma to FL and make her your personal security guard.
We then asked William why older individuals are so special. “The biggest asset we have as older people is experience,” he shared. “And, with decades of experience we usually acquire a very special gift: Much Greater Compassion. Except for the outright cranky ones (who may be suffering deep physical or mental pain), have you ever noticed that seniors smile at you more? Criticize you less? Have time for you? Listen to you more? Argue with you less? Praise your deeds (no matter how small) more. And, if whenever you’ve taken time to really sit and talk with seniors, have you noticed all the wonderful stories they have? This is why older people are so special.”
My Dad Got To Hold A 3-Week-Old Baby Goat Yesterday

My Grandad A Couple Weeks Ago On His 95th Birthday. He Said, "At Least Now I Can Stop Worrying About Dying Young"
When my grandma turned 90, she said with the straightest face, “I guess I am truly over half-way through, aren’t I?” Yes, grandma, I am fairly certain you are.
Lovely grandpa, great sense of humor!!! Just one question, is that cake very small or that cup quite large?
I want to be able to go out and have a cup of coffee as well if I turn 95! Lifegoal to be this fresh at 95!
Finally Came Out To My Grandpa And His Response Is So Wholesome
I think I'm going to save this. It's everything I wanted to say to my boy when he finally wasn't self conscious enough to tell me. I'm 1000% okay with whom he loves and I only hope is that he wasn't afraid of my reaction. I was, and still am, a fairly private person and would rather have jumped off a cliff than admit to my family that I was interested in any boy. It wasn't because they were cruel or anything, it was just shyness on my part and I hope that was the case with my son. Either way, I think I'm going to borrow this - it's everything I have wanted to say but felt funny enough not to.
you are a good parent, virtual hugs

The blessing of family love and support with the coming-out decision is so so so HUGE! God bless your grandparents for their unconditional, unstinting love.
We also asked William if people often underestimate or don’t pay enough attention to senior citizens. “Definitely,” he told Bored Panda. “We are a youth oriented society, where youthful looks mean almost everything. So, as we age, we get less and less attention. Not because of who we’ve become, but because of how we look.”
“A very famous woman, whose name I unfortunately can not remember as I write this, once stated: ‘As a woman becomes older, she becomes invisible. Her youthful looks have gone, and most men will not even notice her. Old age is a very lonely place for a woman.’ What a tragic loss for those men.”

Load More Replies...My grandpapa Max was a little terse when we were growing up. He and my grandmama immigrated to Canada right after the war, and his old French values were very apparent. In 1999 my grandmama passed away, and grandpapa's health started to deteriorate. He needed a walker, then a wheelchair. In the weeks after grandmama died, he became very soft spoken and genuinely emotional. We connected a lot more in that time before he passed in 2002.

But, just take a moment and look in an older woman’s eyes. Look at how deeply she can see you. Look at all the love those eyes give you. The caring. The understanding. The support. Notice their tender and soft touch. And, also notice how they are asking you for nothing other than the time you are giving them. Young women, and men, are generally green fruit.”

When it comes to the best things William has learned from older family members throughout his life and from his own experiences, he shared, “At first life looks like an eternity. But, it passes in an instant. Whenever you can, without hurting others, do whatever makes you happy. No one on their death bed ever said, ‘I wish I had spent more time at the office.’ Be kind. To everyone. And, practice random acts of kindness.”
My Grandpa's Cat Passed Away. He Was Crushed And Didn't Want To Insensitively Replaced Her, But Was So Lonely He Let My Mom Help Him Find A New Kitten
This is the picture she sent me.
ok, but this would have been the perfect opportunity for him to adopt a senior cat that lost its parent. Now, this cat will have to be adopted when he passes. Hopefully the family wants it b/c it's traumatic for a cat to lose its parent and have to move to a new place with different people. They could have rescued a difficult to adopt older cat.
Having cats...I think the same. They can live for 20 years. After mine die, I'll adopt seniors, because I can't be sure I'll be capable of caring for them another twenty years.
Load More Replies...I'm the kind of person who adopts quickly after a pet passes, not to replace, but to help fill the hole left in my heart.

We also asked William if there were any misconceptions about older people that he wanted to dispel. “I have found that the greatest misconception most people have about elderly people is that they are finished living. Really enjoying life with others and doing things,” he shared. “I have found that as long as an elderly person has a clear mind and at least a somewhat able body, they want to enjoy each new day as much as anyone else,” William says. “In fact they usually look forward to each adventure even more because they usually are too well aware that there may not be that many left.”
“Did you know: They still want to dance? Even from a wheelchair? A movie out is still worth dressing up for? A dinner, or lunch out never gets tiring? Time in the park by a pond or lake is still Heavenly? Conversations with a bottle of wine, or as my friend Jack preferred, a gin and tonic, are always welcome? Did you know the queen even enjoyed more than one cocktail a day?”

“I used to have a dear friend named Christian,” William shared. “He was approaching 80. Alone most of the day. And, he seemed to look forward to nothing more than sharing a bottle of red wine in the backyard, eating sausages with his fingers, and talking. About anything!”
“He was very wealthy. He lived in a mansion in an exclusive neighborhood where I enjoyed taking my dog for walks,” William continued. “That was how we met. I lived in a tiny apartment at the time. He made no distinction. He adored my dog. He treated me like we were brothers. I could stop by his home any day at any time. His big charismatic smile was always there when I arrived. And, he was always happy to see me, share the contents of his wine cellar, hear whatever news I would bring, and tell me wonderful stories from his first home in Paris. My dear friend Christian still had a real zest for living!”

This is beautiful. The look of genuine affection between the both of them is priceless. ❤️
It's amazing to see the sheer comfort he is getting from holding it. Makes me see just how much we have become closed of from each other. We recoil generally from any human contact and we should have so much more patience and care with our senior generation. Xx

So nice taking such an effort to write that card...it reminds me of myself learning the English 25 years ago when I met my English husband....it took me a week to read a cheap gossip newspaper, nowadays I read the Guardian in an hour...I still make mistakes, but English is my 4th language, so at 65 I am very proud of what I have achieved all these years. 💞👍

I used to watch an elderly couple take their daily walk around the neighborhood from my apartment window. They would always be dressed well, the man in a suit and hat, the lady in an adequate dress, he had a walker. One day, I saw only him and since then he took walks alone. I guess she had passed. A year or so had passed, he kept going on his daily walks until one day he stopped entirely. I guess he had lost his mobility and now I wonder what came of him...

When We Come Visit, I Normally Stay At My Grandma's House. 12 Years Ago She Bought A Towel For When I'd Come. She Still Hangs The Same Duck Towel For Me When I Arrive
When I was visiting my Grandma when I was small, I'd get overheated, as little boys do, and she would have me lie down and cover me with a small purple afghan, which she said was magic, and would cool me right down. She died in 1972, and my aunt lived on in the house until 1998. When my brother and I cleared out the house, I found the magic purple afghan. I have it here with me. It's still got her magic.
It always will. I have the quilt Grandma made me. She's moved on, but the quilt is a daily reminder of her love.

My Grandmother Is 93 Years Old And Losing Her Memory But Still Can Roll Her Ravioli Dough Like A Professional

I know this is kind of unrelated but my grandfather is slowly losing his memory too. But he can clearly remember his life when he was younger and had to leave France because of World War II. He loves recounting his story over and over again because that's one of the top things he remembers. I recently learned that he and my father both went to the same school. They weren't related. I know that sometimes it might be hard to connect with grandparents but they love you all the same even if it's hard to see it.
My grandma made strudel from scratch every fall until she was about 90. She's been gone 14 years and we're still trying to replicate her recipe but it is never quite as good as hers.

My grandpa had a picture of me on my first prize day at school and it's still there to this day. He's no more but there's nothing in the world that doesn't remind me of him.
My 98-Year-Old Grandma Has Been Making Me Birthday Cards For Years. This One Is The Most Plain Of Them All, But Meant The Most
I lost my grandmother to dementia a couple months ago. Her name was Grandma Rose. I may be crying rn.
I just thought of my late maternal stepgrandfather and grandmother. 💔 The thought of mortality absolutely stinks, but I’m glad I get to see them again and meet my maternal grandfather someday soon.
Grandma Gifts Embroidered Childhood Drawings On Grandkid's 18th Birthday
I hate to be one of those "this should be higher" people, but... Seriously, leaving aside the craftspersonship and the love labor (though, why would we?), just imagine the level of thoughtfulness and likely hundreds of moments of rededication to the project over the years. This is one of the best visual representations of deep familial love I've ever seen.
My nan used to do the same thing. It was smaller patchwork squares but same idea. She'd give one to each grandchild as a graduation gift. She used clothes that wasn't in any shape to wear but she could use it for the quilt. My mom used to point out which designs she remembered my nan wearing lol.

Quality Time With Grandpa
I started this for my niece when she was born. She has many special needs and this ended up being a chronicle of the first 4 years of life. Her mom had no idea, It was full of stories about our adventures in the hospital together and had lots of little mementos from her stays in it. I had planned to keep it going until her 13th birthday, but relented and gave it to my sister when she was 5. It really meant a lot to her to have those memories and caught her completely by surprise.
I was born in 86. My mom left my dad when I was 6 months old and he was deported over seas in the USA Air force. My grandmother (mother of my dad) came and got me. She kept notes for his two year departure. Recetly. (Im 37) she gave me the manifesto and I ugly cried reading it and remembering it. It means the world to have some care about you so much they write funny little stories and great adventures down. So you, you did your sister a great deed. *hugs*

I can see my dad doing this. He has some interesting stories from Vietnam. He likes to talk about how they had a monkey, snake, rat, and a mongoose in the barracks at various times (his command let them have a mascot but never set any rules as what it could or couldn't be).
I think if more barracks had pets, it would really help with the troops mental health. More the merrier.

Born 102 Years Apart On The Same Day. My Son Gets To Meet His Great Grandma For The First Time
I feel sad for my half brother. I got to see my paternal grandparents when they were in the 40s when they were full of energy. I'm 49 on Tuesday and my grandfather passed away a few years ago around the same time my dad had his 5th child with his young wife. My grandma is now in her 90s and feeble so he will be unable to know her as we did. Side story. My dad is 69 and has great grandchildren through my eldest daughter, oldest is 8 in November, same age as his son 😜 sadly his son is disabled and will never be able to take care of himself and will always need full-time care. I remember when my grandma told me that he was marrying a woman 10 years younger than me and she had no kids of her own and he apparently told her that he was done having kids as he had 4 adult kids and he didn't want to do it all over again. She agreed, they got married, and then less than a year later she was pregnant. I didn't mind him getting married to a younger woman,, just that he was happy
Such a shame the others will miss knowing their grandparents like you did! I'm also so sorry if your dad was put in a position or even tricked into having another child when he made clear he wasn't interested. Having a child is for two consenting adults, exactly because it's such a full-time commitment. Your dad will never enjoy a retirement, it sounds like 😔 I'm sure he was looking forward to grandparenting in his senior years. But I so hope he's now happy.

My Mum used to do this, but with the check she would give me after I bought her groceries and such. She always tacked on way too much extra for "having to do this for me", but I rarely cashed those checks. I only got away with it because my brother balanced her checkbook every month. He knew that if he saw my name in the register, he was just to ignore that entry. It's been eleven years (Pink knows this bit 😆) and I still find the odd check in random places.

Here's one of my favorite stories about my grandmama. When my Mum was little, girls couldn't wear pants to school, they had to wear skirts. Well, one freezing cold winter morning, my grandmama looked outside at the snow and said, "You're wearing pants." Off to school my mum and her 3 bros go. School sends my mum home, crying. My grandmama couldn't drive, so she marched my mum back to school, went to the principal's office and tore him a new one. From then on, my mum could wear pants whenever she goddamn pleased.

I kind of object to calling old people "cute." Seems condescending. These are full grown bloody adults who have lived longer than you and I. They have experienced all the same life milestones we are going through. They're not like these "cute" people who don't "get it" so isn't it cute. I feel like we don't treat the elderly with the respect they deserve.
This has bothered me for years! It seems so condescending and belittling. Someone told me that my parents, who were both in their 90s and married for over 65 years, were "cute" and and I said, "No. They are many, many different things: inspiring, admirable, fascinating, resilient... but not cute." I wonder if people do this because thinking of being that old makes them uneasy.
