Guy Goes To Expensive Homes And Asks Strangers What They Do For A Living And It’s Getting A Lot Of Attention (23 Pics)
When it comes to the internet, there’s a niche for everything. After all, there’s so much content online nowadays that people have to be creative with it in order to stand out.
Meet Aaron Vankampen, a freelance location scout from Toronto, Canada. He has recently started posting videos where he approaches the doors of luxurious houses, knocks on the doors, and asks the owners what they do for a living.
Believe it or not, as of this article, he only has 9 videos on his TikTok channel, but he’s already been able to gain over 50 million views and 11 million likes over his entire channel.
Bored Panda has compiled a list of all of the houses he’s been to and the answers people gave saying what they do for a living to have earned such fancy homes. You can check out our interview with Aaron as well as the entire list below (with links to each video under the photos), so why not vote and comment on the ones you liked the most!

Nope, yakuza plant first confess then die horribly mutilated.
Load More Replies...OH HECK I JUST WATCHED BNHA EPISODE 67 dAMN OVERHAUL I didnt think yakuza was real but...
So, Aaron was looking for a way he could expand his free location scouting business. Before that, he was a bartender, but you can imagine what happened when the pandemic came around.
"This idea originated while I was seeking a creative way to expand my freelance location scouting business," explained Aaron. "I wanted to increase my workload and income because my primary source of income—bartending—has been crippled by the COVID-19 pandemic. As a location scout, I have been consistently tasked with making inquiries to film at a wide range of places, many of which are homes. As you can imagine, the ask is usually luxury."
For those unaware, a location scout is a person who looks for places that fit certain criteria for filming a movie or doing some commercial photography, among many other things. It’s a key part of pre-production of films, ads, and many other projects.
This includes going door-to-door to each house that fits a given project’s criteria. And this idea soon evolved into making videos of said houses where the owners themselves pretty much explain how their homes came to be by answering one simple question—what do they do for a living?
I did it as part of my job at an embassy. You get a bloody long list of expensive stuff ("sugar pliers: silver. NOT silver-coated! - Umbrella (7x) by Burberry...") and you run from one designer shop to the next, pick out the things and have them delivered within an hour.
Load More Replies...Beautiful house, I didn't know they could make so much money to buy a house like that!
10 to 1, the actual owner is her husband and she's a photo "hobbyist".
Load More Replies...Baby photographer and married to someone who is not baby photographer
I am a baby photographer, my husband collect sea shells and our budget is 2 million....yep!
There are a handful of houses that Aaron has featured on his TikTok channel. The idea behind these videos is that he wants to show people that you don’t have to be a lawyer or a doctor to own a nice place. And the videos show it.
Though there were a number of lawyers in the mix, many of them were business owners, real estate agents, as well as artists, physiotherapists, and sportspeople.
"I've been doing this for five years, have built up strong confidence and an appropriate demeanor for that. In my experience, the homeowners are usually intrigued, excited and genuinely nice. I also always receive consent from the homeowners and I never trespass. If ever I receive a negative response, I leave," elaborated Aaron.
Lucky girl. I hope she takes full advantage and makes the most of it. It's so sad when it's squandered.
Trust fund kids do own these kinds of properties, trouble is, because they don't need to work they often end up dead from drugs.
It's when rich people set aside, say, a small loan of one million dollars, and invest it in a CD or something of the like. When the child turns 18, they can collect the money and do with it as they please.
Load More Replies...He's like 8 years old. He's obviously not the homeowner. He can't drive. He can't have a bank account. He can't even reach the microwave by himself...
Yeah, pretty sure you have to be old enough to drive before you can buy a house.
Some people are jokers, though, like this one lady who, when asked what she did for a living, responded “Oh, I’m a part of the Yakuza” while another explained she’s a “Dream Worker,” whatever that means.
"A middle-aged, single woman in a more-than-significant house once told me, 'I am comfortably unemployed.' I thought that was quite comical. One of the most talked about answers was a woman in one of my videos answered 'I'm a dreamworker', I hadn't heard of that career prior, and I'm assuming many of my viewers had not either," explained Aaron.
Even though some consider these videos a tad bit cringy (because of the fact that, in essence, these are videos of a random dude strolling by the homes of complete strangers with his phone camera on and asking “what do you do for a living?”), Aaron reassures viewers that these videos are consensual and that if he’s asked not to film, he respects people's requests and privacy.
Regardless, his channel has just 9 videos, each featuring between 2 and 3 homes and their owners, and it already has over 50 million views collectively. His 3rd video alone has gained over 32 million views. Besides that, the channel has over 11 million likes and almost 750,000 followers.
Ok, then what's his name? Can anybody recognize him? You have to be in a blockbuster hit to have the money for a house like that. (At least as an actor)
I think the original Celtic Pirate Queen was "Gráinne Ní Mháille,". Any relation. Be awesome
Load More Replies...Lastly, we've asked Aaron how did he react to the fact that all of this went crazy viral. He had this to say:
"I had an idea that they would do well, studying the social media trends. Though I did not expect them to go that crazy viral so quickly, my most popular video now has over 30 million views. If anything, the popularity of the videos drives me to create more content, it also confirms that other people have also looked at luxury homes and are asking the same question that I am. I'm thoroughly enjoying creating the content and interacting with the people that enjoy watching it."
You can check out his TikTok here, but before you go, why not let us know what you thought about this in the comment section below!
Rich and happy people making money by singing how poor and miserable they are...
Being rich and powerful doesn't mean you'll be happy.
Load More Replies...What, so she's only a singer if she's on the radio?
Load More Replies...That's uncalled for. What the f**k is wrong with you? Like - there's not even any exposed cleavage. It seems to me like you're just attacking her for being attractive. Yeah, how f*****g dare she.
Load More Replies...Earns more probably. My mother's carpenter once told her that he could easily compare to one.
Load More Replies...Maybe someday, but that's a child. More importantly, WNBA players make only a fraction of what NBA players make. The wage gap is real.
Load More Replies...not only is the house "presidential looking", she kinda looks like a female version of donald trump
Yeah, that's just the diplomat having a source of income. That's typical of a wealthy east asian.
Uhh Debby Ryan does not look that bad
Load More Replies...Even the author of these videos admits that he has no clue what she meant. Probably she loves her job and wants to keep that bit a secret. Probably.
Load More Replies...This was the one that reminded me of ... you know that show about making over houses or flipping them or something and couple doing it are like a bird sanctuary worker and an influencer....
That’s the maid. She comes from Guatemala. She is working under the table and pays no taxes.
Am I an Industrialist? Define "Industrialist" These people are so vague.
If someone knocked on my door and filmed me while asking for personal information I'd be vague too.
Load More Replies...Ah, so destroy 3 villages, ally with 2. And you too can own a giant house.
She must be the owner of the company. My father worked in construction and so does my partner, and we don't have houses like that :P
My Uncle owned his own construction company (recently retired) and is a multi-millionaire but you wouldn't know it.
Load More Replies...This is plausible. But only if the construction company builds skyscrapers.
If I ever get a crazy fancy house, I need to practice my reply. "I tame salamanders, and my wife irons ribbons for baskets"
Just take clues from those house hunters shows. "I'm a birthday clown and my wife pickles krill part time"
Load More Replies...If you own a factory, you'd probably have to do something to earn the money to get it up and running.
Load More Replies...I have to assume that some of these people received some kind of inheritance.
Doing this in the UK would lead to a good thrashing and then being told to **** off.
I think some of these are people who live in the house, not necessarily the ones whose profession paid for it. My wife’s colleague lives in a $2m house, so if she answered her door she would say ‘teacher’. Her husband’s a partner in a law form. That’s why she lives there.
