Laws are there to protect us, but some of them are just silly. You may even have broken them without being aware of it because some of the things that are punishable just seem so innocent. Or maybe you know that those things are against the law but you don’t feel like morally you’re doing something wrong.

Of course, morals are a subjective thing, but some laws do really fall into the grey area. Redditors were discussing the very topic of what is illegal by the book but they wouldn’t consider it wrong ethically.

Almost 40k people liked the thread and 18k people joined the conversation. In this list you will find people’s opinions of what illegal activities aren’t so bad that many redditors agreed upon. We would like you to join the discussion and leave your thoughts about the topic in the comments!

A lot of my relatives think that living in an orphanage is better for a child than being adopted by a gay couple, that gay people deserve zero representation on TV and should see therapists throughout their lives. I'm so disgusted by these opinions

Sometimes in car parks motorists give others their tickets if there is a good amount of time on them. Someone pays for to park for 4 hours but only stays for 2. They give someone coming into the car park their ticket and someone gets 2 hours free

Also, why the **** are you queueing to vote? There seems to be some kind of weird strategy in the States to make it as hard as possible to cast your vote. In the UK we normally close schools for polling day and turn them into polling stations - lots of them - and they are open from about 8am until 10pm. And on top of that we have a postal voting system as well, that is completely free (you don't have to pay postage and you can post it back from any post box).

allowing nature to take its course is not unethical. If someone is unrecoverably terminally ill and incompetent like in a long-term coma, the removal of artificial life support that is keeping them alive is not wrong ethically. Allow some time like 10-30 days to see if they can come out of their coma on their own. This can happen. There is no compelling ethical reason to keep someone in an unrecoverable coma indefinitely on artificial life support. Let them move on to heaven and a better life. It is actually wrong to forcibly hold them back. It is however wrong to do anything to cause an untimely death like euthanasia.

While it shouldn't be illegal, there would need to be fundamental changes to how public schools are funded in order to make this practice feasible across the board. But of course that would mean actually addressing the defacto segregation caused by redlining and other underhanded disgusting practices that can turn a good idea in theory of school choice into a weapon to further marginalize minority communities (which is not just an issue if race, but also ableism)

In South Africa, we don't have school busses unless you go to a private school that is on the outskirts of town and then it's just the shuttle for that school only and they are usually boarding schools. So we have to go to the nearest school to where we live so that we will be on time in the morning and get back home easily if we need to walk or ride our bikes.

But I think this is only if you are going to a state school or model-C, otherwise it's private schools and it is just a matter of do you get a place.

Much of this has to do with transportation to and from school, assuming the child rides the bus.

It mostly has to do with the amount of state or federal money the school will get for each student that is enrolled. The school district will designate which school a child has to attend based on their home address, & then designate the government funds to each school according to enrollment. As usual in the U.S., it all comes down to the almighty dollar!

In Australia if you are not in that school's zone, all you have to do is apply for an exemption by writing a letter pleading certain circumstances. If you don't get that exemption though, I have never heard of people caring enough to use someone else's address.

LOL - I know a family that moved to a different apartment in the SAME BUILDING because half of the building belonged to one school district and the other half, to the other., so their kids could go to a better school. It is not even a different address - it is the same building and the apartments are feet from each other. But the city line runs between them.

So let's go back to segregation, why don't we? That is what these laws are trying to avoid - school segregation. That is why states which are trying to bring back segregation encourage "school choice".

This one is tricky. I 100% think a child should be able to finish a year, or if it is a temporary move, stay in the same district. Obviously, all schools should be created equal, but if people could just free for all, then the good schools become over crowded and underfunded and are no longer good schools. So, I honestly don't know the answer to how to solve this. I will say, while my family is by no means poor, we live in an area that is a title 1 school (low income.) We moved moved stayed on purpose, because there are extra funds and programs to help make the school district better, and with 2 special needs kids with IEPs, it is better than to go to a richer district.

When my mom died during my freshman year and I ended up living with my grandmother in another district, I was allowed to finish the year at the same school. I took a bus for a while, then was driven by my algebra teacher who made the same commute. There were two other classmates that had moved a little after I did that also were allowed to finish the year, but I don't know the reasons why, since school of choice was not a thing here yet.
