“Time and tide wait for no man” is one of our oldest sayings, pre-dating modern English and going all the way back to 1225. A true classic, this saying has stood the test of time because of it's simple, fundamental truth; when it comes to longevity, basic is always better.

This list, compiled by Bored Panda, is an ode to all kinds of things that have faced up to the unstoppable force of time, and survived. Their strange, ethereal beauty lies in the stories that they tell; the wear and tear of gravity, friction, repeated use and weather gives you a definite idea of the kind of existence these objects have experienced over the years, and tell a lot about those that used them!

Scroll down below to check out this fascinating list for yourself, as well as previous posts here and here, and let us know what you think in the comments!

The loved one, is the one on the left. Stayed with you through thick and thin, and a few washes in the washing machine.

aww! I am 13 and I have had a stuffed penguin named Poppy since birth. she has been through the washing machine, through many stitches, tears, and one day it got so bad that almost all of her stuffing fell out. she had huge rips everywhere. my mom tried to fix her, it did not work. finally, we sent her to a professional place where they fixed her until she was good as new! I still sleep with her. :D :3

Aw, the one on the left looks like my "little bear"! When he lost an eye, my mom gave him pretend anesthesia before fixing it.

There is hope for the one on the left. If you carefully open it up along a seam, remove the old stuffing, wash the fur, use a comb to help tease out what remains of the fur... then you can restuff your teddy with fresh stuffing, and fix the tears. I have a teddybear encyclopedia that detailed the process, and it's actually pretty straightforward for someone who knows how to hand-sew. I opened up a teddy bear once that had a music box in its chest that had been damaged. I was able to fix it, and close it back up. You'd never know the difference!

I am 34 and received a teddy bear at birth from my father. My now 10 year old son has loved Teddy as his since he was about 9m and still can not sleep with out him. My bear has had and continues to have so much love. I wonder if my grandchild will also get to love him as his own someday? Fills my heart with joy.

what does love mine more mean? kept nicely and lovingly or played with more often and roughly?

Wear and tear is damage that naturally and inevitably occurs as a result of normal wear or aging. It is used in a legal context for such areas as warranty contracts from manufacturers, which usually stipulate that damage from wear and tear will not be covered.

Wear and tear is a form of depreciation which is assumed to occur even when an item is used competently and with care and proper maintenance. For example, repeated impacts may cause stress to a hammer's head. This stress is impossible to prevent in the normal use of the tool for its designed task, and any attempt to avert it impedes its functionality. At the same time, it is expected that the normal use of a hammer will not break it beyond repair during a reasonable life cycle.

Being green it doesn't ignite. However due to the convexity of the glass not really magnifying the sun light at the point the dry can ignite, it might be just heating it until it dries and nothing more.

The phenomenon of wear and tear reflects the second law of thermodynamics, in which objects stray from their original form and function over time unless energy from an external force is used to maintain them. If restoration is impossible an object is regarded as consumable. Parts that are designed to wear inside a machine, like bearings and O-rings are intended to be replaced with new ones; consumables like paper, cardboard, fabrics, and product packaging are designed with a service life commensurate with their intended use. For example, grocery stores may issue customers a paper or plastic sack to carry out groceries, but it is intended that the sack will have a short lifespan before wear and tear would cause it to fail.

Durable goods (e.g. automobiles, heavy machinery, mainframe computers, musical instruments, handguns, water heaters) are designed with wear parts that are maintained generally by replacement of parts. One way to determine if a good is durable or not is whether a service technician or repairman would typically attempt repairs on it. A specialist may need to be consulted, such as an auto mechanic, a computer technician, a luthier, a gunsmith, or a plumber. An automobile's engine may be repairable with a simple adjustment or replacement of a single and inexpensive broken part. Similarly, an electric water heater element that fails from years of wear and tear may be replaced rather than the entire water heater.

Whereas an automobile needs consumable fuel and lubricants to operate, components such as tires, seats, and paint are subject to wear and tear and typically are not covered under any warranty when subjected to normal use.

My cat had allergies and would be itchy a lot so she would rub her nose and sides on one corner leading into my kitchen. The oils from her fur would stain the paint a brownish color. It's easy enough to wash off but haven't been able to bring myself to do it since she died. I miss her rubbing up against everything. We did finally figure out cortisone shots would help for months at a time and you know when it was time for a new one because she'd start rubbing again.

A pen carries your heart and soul to paper, and are often more honest than whale speak. The pen truly is mightier than the sword, and the written word, lends us others emotions to make our own, each time we read them. The respect and love you send to your grandfather, by using his pen, is soul stirring, and pure love!

10% of the population, although my experience from talking with other lefties is that a high percentage of that 10% actually splits gross motor skills and fine motor skills between the two hands. My off-the-cuff guess about the percentage of highly-dominant-to-completely-dominant lefties is like to be no more than two or three percent.

This is actually a comparison of how many people follow social norms. I.e. regardless of right/left handedness, most people walk on the right. At least, in countries that drive on the right. I've always wondered if it flips in those that drive on the left.

Exactly, I wouldn't reach for the left door even if I was left handed due to an expectation of someone opening it from the other side. And if you're going to open the right door that swings open from the left it's most comfortable to do so with your right hand.

I used to work at a gyro shop that this cute little Greek old couple opened up in the 60s.. I'm not sure how old his knives were that he used to slice the meat off the spit, but they had been sharpened so much over the years that they were getting super thin and scary looking like that.

I once left a newspaper clipping next to my laptop in my bag and threw in a bottle of bicycle chain lube. The bottle didn't seal properly and it leaked out just enough to hit the clipping, and it transferred a solid portion of characters to my laptop giving it a cool newspaper aesthetic. It wore away after a few months but I thought it was neat.

So, I was the third owner, the battery cap was long lost and the body case very damaged (like it would' 've been constantly dropped). But up to the day, it still works. I wear several Sterling silver rings permanently. One even had to be cut off during medical emergency, even though it cost me $20 12 years ago I paid $50 to repair it. They have sentimental value. As to hygiene, as well as showering and regular hand washing, I make sure to shift and soap the rings and clean them each time I was my hands. They are always shiny and clean ^-^

Are people in your country just bouncing of walls to change direction ? Like the DVD logo on the sleeping screen ? :)

Must’ve been young when he got married, young people have slimmer fingers. And Linouchka, it’s only been stuck for 21 years, I assume they were married before that and he used to be able to take it off

A broken wedding ring after ONLY 21 years ? Low quality, I'd say.

Or clean them and give them to a thrift shop or some homeless people. They look intact and still usable to me, just filthy.

A 10 year old stack of dirty shoes that aren't worn anymore is gross. It needs to be cleaned out.
