Pencil Drawing By 16 Year Old Irish Artist Shania Mcdonagh

Look at the reflection in old mans eyes! Amazing is such an understatement.

Load More Replies...Facebook groups like the 'Weird, Wonder And Strange' and the 'Weird Wonder And Strange 2' are the perfect examples of just how generous the world is with throwing things at us to think about. And often, we don’t even need to lift a finger to realize there are plenty of interesting things happening around us. Whether it’s oddities within nature that capture our attention, architectural wonders that consistently surprise us, or the power of human kindness — there are so many elements left to discover about our home planet.
But more often than not, we get stuck in our routines, sounds, and sights that swiftly make our daily living boring. Taking the same commute and speaking to the same people each morning several times per week means we become so familiar with our surroundings, we may miss the magic around us. So it makes perfect sense that we humans should strive to learn and experience more, right?
That’s why social media projects like this are bound to catch our eye. Sharing interesting facts and images we never knew about before makes us feel stimulated to find yet another brand new sight to see. And as it turns out, our brains are actually wired to appreciate and seek out novelty.

This is so incredibly sweet. Animals can truly be some of the best therapy.
My son spent a few weeks in a children's hospital when he was 9, and the therapy dogs that came by were the highlight of each day. It was priceless to see him light up like he did, and I think it gave him an extra boost to work hard in physical therapy to get him walking again. Those handlers are saints for dedicating their time and training their dogs for this purpose.
The therapy dog was my favourite part of hospital. He was so awesome!

"We literally are hardwired to move the common occurrences into the background of our consciousness so that we can look out for novel things," he said. "This happens because things that are not obvious, that are not common, that stand out, could pose a threat to our well-being, or could be something really rewarding."
Psychologist Klapow pointed out that we often take things we do and see every day for granted, "only to pay more attention to those actions and interactions that grab our attention. The obvious goes in the background, so we reserve brain bandwidth to notice the novel, standout occurrences in our life."

Seeking new experiences — even comparatively minor ones — also makes us feel genuinely delighted. "There is a connection between novelty and happiness," Dr. Laurie Santos, a cognitive scientist who teaches the "Psychology and the Good Life" course at Yale, told GQ.
"Novel stimuli tend to activate regions of our brain that are associated with rewards.” But there’s more than just the dopamine rush: "Novel things also capture our attention … you’re more likely to notice things and be present. There’s lots of evidence that simply being more present can improve our mood and happiness," Santos explained.

A Couple With Down Syndrome Who Were Told Not To Marry Still Proving Critics Wrong 25 Years Later!
I'm not normally like "Awww! What a cute couple! ", but damn, I love this picture. They are a very sweet couple!
It’s sadly because some people believe Down’s syndrome (and a lot of other disorders) render a person unable to make ‘adult decisions’ and therefore should be treated like children their whole lives. Since children can’t consent to sex or marriage then they believe these disabled folk can’t either. I btw do NOT agree with this mindset - we disabled folk have every right that an able adult does.

"What we found was that for every person, on days when they displayed greater exploration, greater 'roaming entropy', they reported feeling happier. It's as simple as that," he said. "The experience of novelty, or going to places you had never been before, actually seemed to have an even larger association with positive emotion on that day." The best part? People who are in a good mood are more motivated to explore, and those who explore more tend to have better moods. These positive emotions also tend to seep into the next day, and even the day after that.

As you’re scrolling through this list, you may stumble upon an unseen phenomenon that will inspire you to analyze it further. When you spend time learning something unknown, you also expand your horizons and build a greater perspective of the world. You also notice the benefits in no time.
According to Marilee Sprenger, an international educational consultant in the fields of social-emotional learning, literacy, vocabulary, and brain research, one of the most fascinating aspects of our brain is that it can change, and it does so every day.
"Neuroscientists want us to understand that the brain is plastic," Sprenger told us in a previous interview. "Every time you learn something new, your brain grows new connections. As we practice this new learning, the connections between brain cells get stronger and more resilient. If it is useful information, it stays with us, possibly forever."

Keeping your brain active is vital, Sprenger argued. "Because the brain has plasticity, you can also lose what you’ve learned. Keeping your brain and your body active can make a big difference in your ability to concentrate, focus, and remember. The more you know, the easier it is to take new learning and new experiences and connect them to information already stored in your brain."

Load More Replies...This is so cool! I really like trying to decipher stuff like this - it's like a visual puzzle for me. It's also kind of annoying because there are times I just don't want to think, just look. I can't help myself with this one, so here goes: It's a statue depicting a partial figure of King Arthur, who, by legend, is supposed to return at Britain's greatest hour of need. You might say this is a partial depiction of Arthur because the last real time the whole of the UK was in imminent danger would have been WWII. However, the allies won the war, the UK was safe again and not in need of Arthur, hence the partial figure, which now stands in wait for the next crisis. That, or the artist just thought it would be a unique take on the traditional look of statues.

My goodness that literally made me burst into tears. What a powerful image.
The full picture shows the shoes he's wearing which are in tatters.
The weird feeling I have is happiness for him but also a sense of guilt and sadness that a simple pair of new shoes is something both my child and I take for granted. The quest for things and piles of stuff is something I simultaneously hate and indulge in too.

Omg. You could set one f**k of a murder mystery in here by setting off a chain reaction of people slipping and accidentally dying after discovering the original murder. Something to that effect, it would need better working up but just wanted to make the point the pieces are there: could you imagine having to work backwards through a chain of tragic accidents of people slipping and falling in either on blood or just in a scramble to get away only to find at the very end of that chain (or rather at the start of it) one intentional one? It'd be maddening both for the characters and the author trying to write it.

They use their powerful legs to kill their prey, most often snakes
It's a secretary bird - given the name because of the quill like feathers on it's head
I'm a model, you know what I mean And I do my little turn on the catwalk
So this is a secretary bird, but it got completely robbed in the naming department. Its original name was saqr et-ta'ir in Arabic-- literally "hunter of the sky". Then the French came along and went "eh, kinda sounds like secrétaire (secretary) so let's go with that." The English just translated it to Secretary Bird and by that point in history, it was common for secretaries to have quills behind their ears and look a little like this bird, so the myth of the name was born.
This is the Secretary Bird. It's scientific name is Sagittarius serpentarius. It is a member of the order Accipitriformes which also includes vultures, and other birds of prey, including hawks, kites, harriers, etc. It's not in the same family as the vulture though. Sagittarius is it's own family.
That description of what they do with their legs is too harsh, for such a fabulous creature. They use their powerful legs to SLAY their prey. Get with the program, people! Fabulousness doesn't kill - it thrills!
And we're walking, walking, walking, now turn and pose. Perfection.

Scene Of Rain Falling On The Ground Taken Through The Window Of The Plane
I always liked flying on a rainy day. You get this amazing view all the time
I've driven through it. A weird feeling. First, it was dry, then suddenly pouring rain. A few minutes later (2 or 3 km away), dry again.
Few years ago I was driving on the highway between Prague and Plzen (Czech Republic). The highway was empty (there's never much traffic there and this was a Sunday with bad weather) when it started to rain heavily. I slowed down to around 30 kmh because I couldn't see a thing. Around 5 minutes later the rain stopped as suddenly as it had bagun and I accelerated again. Then I saw this incredible scene at the horizon with huge cloud formations and many columns of rain streching between them and the ground. It was an epic, otherworldly scenery, even more impressive than this photo. It is strictly forbidden to stop the car on the highway and very dangerous, otherwise I would have taken a mind-blowing picture. The sight lasted only 2-3 minutes, then the sun came out and it was all gone. I'll never forget it. I'm pretty sure I'm one of the few people, if not the only person, who witnessed it.

I have an idea on what to do with these old telephone booths that cost next to nothing to remove & could even be repurposed by artists or the city for future projects! We could fill it with water, then dump hundreds of goldfish in them! Because why not? It's art! I mean, torturing animals for the sake of aesthetic is okay! As long as it's just measly little goldfish!" Like.... this is just as bad as people who use goldfish as table decor at their weddings. Bonus points if you do that & you also don't have any air pumps in the bowls so the fish slowly suffocate to death since they need oxygenated water! Who is cleaning these? Who is changing the filters? Who is feeding them? Or are they put in there & they only live as long as they can survive without all of the requirements that would ensure their comfort? Like... this is why I hate human beings so much.

There Is A 4000 Year Old Rock Formation In Saudi Arabia Called A1-Naslaa, Which Appears To Be Cut In Half With Laser Like Precision. They Aren’t Exactly Sure How That Happened
Oh! I think I know this! There are many different types of rock; Igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary. Because this stone here hasn't changed in the last 4000 years, we can probably rule out 'metamorphic'. This leaves us with Igneous and sedimentary. Because this rock hasn't moved at all in all that time, that means that it's probably sedentary. The spelling of sedentary is quite similar to the word sedimentary so we can conclude that this rock is probably igneous. I can't believe you're still reading this but it's aliens. Definitely aliens.

A Girgentana Goat With Its Magnificent Spiral Horns
The Girgentana is an Italian breed of domestic goat, native to the province of Agrigento in southern Sicily, Italy. It is a medium-sized goat with a thick, long, white coat with grey-brown colored hair around the head and throat. It has a goatee on its chin and a thick clump of hair on its forehead. Named after the town of Girgenti (modern-day Agrigento), this species of goat has a distinguished pair of horns which are joined at the base and twisted in a 'corkscrew' shape. Both males and females have horns, but in males, these can reach up to 70 cm in length. The Girgentana goat was previously numerous in Agrigento - more than 30,000 in the coastal area and the hilly hinterland. But since 2007, this breed has been listed as 'endangered' by the FAO. By the end of 2013, the registered population was 390.

It takes over the mind of an ant, causing it to climb up a branch and cling to the underside of a leaf before mummification. Once locked in place, the mushroom-like fruiting body of the cordyceps sprouts from the ant and eventually releases its spores
I'll take this over a parasitic worm called Leucochloridium. Turns snails into Zombies by taking over their motor functions and filling their eye stalks. In the eye stalks, they pulsate and imitate caterpillars to attract birds (primary host). A bird eats the snail and the parasite lives happily ever after in it's cloaca, laying eggs in it's feaces. There's a video of a snail occupied by the parasite online. Can't find it but it's a gem.

The Kissing Olive Trees In Puglia, Italy
In Puglia, many of the Olive trees stand like sculptures and are unbelievably old - we are talking about thousands of years old! Their age are depicted through their twisted trunks that have evolved over centuries to form unique patterns of knots and gnarls. In fact, Olive trees twist clockwise and there are different theories as to why this occur.
Some think it is related to the earth's gravity force, while others believe it's due to the rotation of the earth or the direction of the wind. Some even suggest that it takes on the helix shape of human DNA. These distorted structure have however toughened the tree trunk, rendering it thick, sturdy and capable of remaining undisturbed for so long. Out of the 60 million Olive trees in Puglia, 5 million are classified as monuments and are protected by the local government. They even bear metal tags with identification numbers so they can be located.
Sadly, many olive trees in Puglia have recently been destroyed by a bacterial infection. I hope these were not among them.

In addition to all this, groundwater supply significantly reduces the evaporation of valuable moisture. The length of Gonabad charisma is 33,113 meters, it contains 427 depressions for water. The structures were built only with the help of knowledge of physics, geology and hydraulic laws, which confirmed the high degree of development of the Persians.
